Olan's thoughts for this strip:
If the DM isn't careful, players come to expect goodies at every step of the adventure. To keep the game realistic, you have to be sure that any treasure found makes sense in the context of the adventure.

Plus, it really annoys the players.

Script for this strip:
Steve (narrator): “Piles of snow cover the floor of what must have once been a library. The shutters here have been blown open by the wind. Several tables are visible above the snow and pieces of parchment poke out in some places. In the far corner of the room leans the crumbled form of a person.”

Steve (narrator): “Clutched in its hand is an unlit torch held out like one would hold out a holy symbol to ward off evil. The well-preserved face of the corpse is fixed in a hideous rictus of fear and hatred.”

Brad: “What? Why doesn’t he attack us?”
Amy: “Are you seriously complaining?”

Tim: “If he’s not going to try to kill us, let’s look around. Maybe see if there’s a spellbook here?”

Steve: “Sure. It’s a monastery. The priests kept lots of arcane spellbooks. Let me check my notes to see what new spells you’ll get to learn.”

Tim: “Seriously?”

Steve : “Of course not.”

Steve: “The parchment pieces poking out of the snow are blank and slightly greasy to the touch. The texts on the shelves are ruined.”
Ray: “No spells for you, Tim, but you can have some greasy paper instead!”

Tim: “Shut up.”
