I am excited to announce that the Red Dragon Inn will soon be featuring a new webcomic!
Please check out Old Wizard. A young apprentice sets out on a quest to become a full wizard.
Written and drawn by Lazarus, and colored by Forrest Rhodes, the comic updates (religiously) twice a week.
Lazarus is an update machine, as a matter of fact - he also writes and draws Super Buzzkill, a gag-a-day type comic full of, well, off the wall daily gags.
Keep your eyes open, and make sure to support the new comic!

My daughter has to be the ultimate pink shirt gamer. Every single time we tabletop, her character is always the one ready to run at the drop of a hat.
Me: "Your legion of elite shock troops stumbles across two drunken kobolds. One has a sharp stick."
Emily: "My character runs in the other direction!"
Okay, I may be slightly exaggerating... but it's almost this bad.

Tiamat - Emily was successful in treating the wound; provided Mac doesn't suffer any more trauma to the area, do anything too strenuous with it, or get an infection, he'll be okay. The morphene will make him sleepy, so you get to sit out posting for a bit longer, it would seem.

Emily shook her head at the various discussions taking place. "Murph," she stated, "he needs to be stitched up before he goes anywhere. Otherwise, there's a good chance Amber's work will be for nothing, and he'll die anyway."
He might die no matter what, the thought occured, but Emily ignored it.
Alaster was apologizing, like it hadn't been a group decision to not murder Jake the moment he was hurt, and like it was his personal fault that she'd been hurt. "Forget it," she snapped, a bit harsher than she had intended. Still, couldn't the man see that there were more pressing issues right now?
Some preacher (religious fanatic?) had come to join them, but Emily ignored him in the face of her task. He had shot zombies, that was good enough for her right now. Amber offered help, which the med student gladly accepted.
"Help me prop his upper body up a bit while I work, so that gravity can work with us, not against us."
Once that was done, Emily began digging in her pack, producing iodine, bandages, scissors, and a needle and thread. The next step was to cut Mac's shirt back and carefully remove Amber's field dressing, which predictably began to weep. After that was done, the med student began carefully cleaned the entire wound with the iodine.
She shuddered at the sight within - Mac would have to be stitched up to prevent fatal blood loss, but fully closing a wound of this size worried her, as well - there was an excellent chance that the anaerobic bacteria whould thrive and create a wonderful pocket of infection. Still, this was his only chance.
He had been lucky, if you could call it that - the axe had barely missed the major blood vessels. Emily knew that this would require more than one layer of stitches - the deeper tissue would have to be repaired before the skin could be pulled together.
After the first couple of thrusts of the needle within his chest, Mac groaned. Emily opened her pack again and pulled out a vial and a syringe, then gave the bounty hunter a measured injection. He visibly relaxed.
"Morpheine," she stated simply. "If he fights, it'll be worse."
With that, she resumed her work.

It took the med student a good forty-five minutes to stitch and bind the wound, time that the rest of the party spent nervously watching either her efforts or the streets. Finally, Emily administered another injection - this one, penecillin - and proclaimed the job to be finihed. She wasn't entirely happy; the stitches were much too large and sloppy compared to those of a real surgeon. Mac would have a doozy of a scar, provided that he survived.
Still, she was proud of her work, and was reasonably sure that, as long as he took it relatively easy for a bit (and didn't get an infection), that Mac would live.

Whole party = more firepower = greater survivability in a fight.
Whole party also = wounded included = less chance of successfully fleeing if it comes to that.

Also, I should point out that while Emily, being an out of towner, would likely have no knowledge of the man, the rest of you Chicago locals may well recognize "Reverend Artillery".
Father Theodore Gregory (aka Father Ted) is a pretty well known televangelist based here in Chicago. He probably hit the very height of his poplarity in the Jimmy Swaggart era of the 80s, but has been doing the Lord's work on TV for better than three decades.
It's up to you guys how much you know about him; your character may be totally oblivious, but they probably at least recognize the face. It did come out in the news recently that Father Ted has been living a very lavish lifestyle - penthouse suite, Rolls Royce, multiple month -long safari trips to Africa, etc. Popular opinion of the man was damaged, but he still held his position up until the zombie outbreak.

I can probably assume that Father Ted isn't going to claim to want to munch you guys, but I don't want to assume party actions. Where are you headed next? Will you have Emily treat Mac here, or try to find someplace safer? What about food - you guys are still in serious need of something to eat.

Steve shuddered in the aftermath of the fight. Blood and gore was splattered everywhere, body fluids spread around in a haphazard manner that grated on his consciousness. More than a half dozen of the monsters lie dead, but the attack had taken its toll - three more of the survivors were wounded, to say nothing of the exchange that had occured between the young man and the bounty hunter as the former had become one of them. The auburn-haired man took stock of his new companions, and mused at how close all of the injured had come to joining the fate of this "Jake".
He shook his head. "Told them not to fight," he muttered. "Run, run!"
But no, they had not listened. True enough they had had little choice in the matter, what with one of their own instigating the situation (but didn't that simply reinforce Steve's reservations?), but there whys and wherefores of the situation didn't really matter. The fact remained that these people, like every other bravado-filled moron he had encountered, were doomed to death and worse. Even now, they discussed wheelbarrows and caring for the injured, and as certain as the sun still rose above this godforsaken cityscape, they would try to protect the injured when they came again (as they always did). They would die, and suck in any foolish enough to follow their motives.
And people consider me the madman... he mused.
As these strangers tended to one another, Steve silently crept toward the back of the hardware store and the stockroom he had visited earlier. Easily enough, he found the emergency exit, unlocked it, and silently padded out the rear entrance. He felt a momentary pang of regret, but the spark of conscience was offset by the practicality that now, he would not have to share his stronghold with them, would not have to feed and nurse those who would only bring death.
Carefully, quietly, Steve closed the door and melted into the shadows of the alley.

Emily groaned as she tasted blood from a split lip. A deep breath (and shooting pain) later, she realized that the lip was easily the least of her worries. She had shot and killed one of the... zombies, and had fought them up close, as well. Somehow, she had survived, had not been bitten. Life would go on, at least for a while.
"Report," she heard Murph choke out. "How we doin'?"
Emily winced as she regained her feet. "Two ribs here, Murph," she stated as she gingerly palpated the area, "feels like they're broken." Still, with the fresh memory of the monster trying to rip at Murph's throat, and the one that had intended the same for her, Emily counted herself lucky.
In a shaky voice, Amber answered. “I got… Mac bandaged up… its only temporary though, he’ll need further care,” her eyes went to Emily nervously then back to Murph, “he’s unconscious.”
Seeing that the area was secure (for the moment), Emily nodded and knelt down to have a look at Mac. "Pretty ingeniuos bandage," she spoke aloud to Amber as she examined the wound. Outwardly, Emily tried to appear calm and in charge, but the fact was that she was only a med student - not a doctor, and not really equipped to handle this. Her mouth was dry, her hands were shaking, and she would have given anything to have a professor step in. The harsh reality, however, was that there was no one else.
"He'll need stitches at the very least," she spoke, "or this will reopen and he'll bleed out. Obviously, he'll need antibiotics, too. The good news is that we have everything we need to handle it - well, to handle it as best we can outside of a hospital - right now."
The thought of stitching this man up terrified Emily, but she fought to keep a brave face. It was this or watch him die. "I'll do what I can," she stated.

Still no word from UncleDog (hope you are hanging in there with those RL issues, dude), so I'll be handling his character for the time being. Also, I must sadly report that PrincessAli felt that algebra homework was an optional exercise here in the first grading period of this school year, whcih has forced me to remove her internet priviledges for the next couple of weeks. Therefore, I'll be NPCing Emily, as well (though I am at least able to solicit her input).
