Topic: Hidden Corruption Q&A
Subject: this adventure...

As you folks know (or, I think that you know), this is my fourth try at this game, over the span of a decade.

As you also know, the adventure has never made it this far in any of my previous tries.  Some of those were due to players flaking, but let's be real - it's mostly my fault.

Now, the thing is, the base idea of this adventure was not mine.  I downloaded it off of a now defunct website dedicated to RPG adventures.   Made some adjustments in the names, moved it to Audalis, etc.

Yesterday, I dug out the original source files for the temple (you know, since I've never actually run this part of the game)... and realized that this adventure is, at best only "inspired by" that original download.  A few points are somewhat similar, but I have entirely changed the underlying plot from a generic "evil dead, ooga booga" that happen to have some gross ghoul/human sex stuff in the background to "horrifying plot to end the world as we know it, featuring some really disturbing crap".  Literally none of the sentient characters even existed in the original adventure.

So I guess that I can feel... good (?) about this being my story?  And you guy can absolutely blame the bad stuff squarely on me.

Now, let me get back to fixing the temple stuff to where it makes more sense.

Succeeding, too.

I actually waffled on this Monday night game.  Glad I didn't change it.

Oh, sure.  No harm, no foul.  This could be handled via RP - Cedric forgot/didn't pay attention to that - or we can edit after the fact, allowing that the player made a mistake with how these things work in my 25 year old out of print rule system.

Subject: clerical powers...

Point of fact - Cedric's explanations about his ability to ask Solanis for light are not entirely accurate.

Clerics of Solanis get two special powers.  (1) They turn undead as if they were a level higher than they actually are.  (2) They are granted two bonus light spells per day.

So unless Cedric casts light a third time in a given 24 hour period, he is not actually diverting any divine favor he might otherwise receive (healing spells, compat spells, blessings, etc).   If those extra spells are not used, then... nothing happens.

He cannot, say, hold those in reserve and then ask for extra healing.  The granted power is the granted power (in this case, the light spells).

Yeah, well, from Anakin's perspective, the jedi were evil, amirite?

I mean... the cultists are just trying to glorify their god.  So you're the intruding bad guys here.

Makes sense.  And depending on the situation, Kith can fall back and let Garn push up to take her spot.

What is that thing they say about battle plans lasting until you encounter the enemy?

The activity here is fantastic.  I thinkt hat everyone save Cedric has already posted this round, though I do need clarification here in the Q&A, too.  But when those items are checked off, I'll post again.

The fun is almost upon us!

Okay.  We've been a little fast and loose with this wandering around in the open, but now that we're about to head into a dunge... er, cave that theoretically holds a temple, I'd like to know the marching order.  Who soaks the poison darts, who falls into the pit traps first, who is exposed by the flanking monsters, etc.

Yes - the concern is a nice piece of RP.

To be very precise - you've found the track that leads to the caves.  You haven't foudn the cave entrance yet.

Re: sneaking - Kithran is a sneaky rogue, able to be shockingly silent.  Nobody else specifically has the skill.

Ch'dau, being a Kazari, is naturally quiet in his movements, and has no clanky metal armor to give him away.  Likewise, Garn is pretty quiet for a boorish human.  Cidals are known for being light on their feet, so Midge is largely as quiet as Ch'dau.  Davena is similar to Garn - not "skilled" sneaky, but pretty quiet.

Cedric's gear is not particularly loud, but he is not particularly quiet.  Gib sounds like a stereotypical solider tromping around.

Re: light - no lanterns, torches only.

Aranwen, Ch'dau, Kithran have infravision to some degree, and Davena claims the ability to see in the dark to a point (magic?).  Gib, Cedric, Midge, Garn have no ability to see in the dark.

Davena nods.  "I, too, have the ability to see some in the darkness, so I may be of some assistance there.  That said, when we encounter trouble, I would be better use behind the stout blades, not in front of them.  I am accustomed to Garn filling that role for me."

The big warrior grunts.

Midge pipes up.  "I'm blind as a proverbial bat, so I'm fine keeping muscle between me and any enemies.  That said, I say we check the entrance carefully before we proceed - I know that any halfwit stout would have a bell or somesuch to alert him to unsuspecting visitors.  I can't imagine a cult looking for secrecy wouldn't have as much sense."  Looking very pleased with himself, the cidal continues.  "I should probably cast a magic detection spell too, just to be sure, don't you think?"

Garn uncharacteristically speaks.  "Caves are treacherous.  A misstep can put you down a deep drop, where you'd never be heard from again.  Stay close.  Wandering off can mean death."

You're missing out on awesome stuff from me.  Such as... classic jokes like "how do you fix a pumpkin?  with a pumpkin patch!" done as the laughing husky meme.

Oh, and the tortoise thing with the babies in TMNT masks.

Hmm... and a newspapaer pic of my graduating senior high school class.  My GOD, I am a dork!

A video of my five year old exclaiming over bunnies when she was... two?

Haha... and a pretty hilarious photo of a couples costume that makes a subtle dirty joke.

How are you surviving?
