Topic: Paranoia: Commies Q&A
Subject: well done!

That was a great first round of posts, folks.  Well done!

Some of you are new to Paranoia.  If this fits you, remember - unlike pretty much any other game you've ever played... instead of working together to achieve goals, you are in fact actively working to backstab one another (figuratively and literally).  Missions in Paranoia seldom succeed - more often, it's about laying the blame of the failure on the proper traitorous commie mutant saboteurs.

Now... some of you are new to the Play by Post game format.  A few notes:

Make sure to include your character's thoughts and feelings - but treasonous thoughts or plans should probably be sent privately to me, lest somone try to use them against you.

For the best reading, please write in third person.  Examples:

Third peson:  Stink-R-PIE-1 scanned the room for signs of Commie traitors.  Assuming that she saw none, she tucked her hair behind an ear and advanced with her laser pistol drawn.  Where were they hiding? She wondered.

First person: I scan the room for any signs of Commie traitors.  If there aren't any, I will advance with my laser pistol drawn.  I wonder where they are hiding.

As you can see, the ssecond entry is more like how it would go around a table.  However, it can be really confusing to read six different people's persepctives from the "I" point of view.  So try to write in third person, desribing what's going on, etc.  It makes for way better reading that way; play by post is a bit of an exercise in creative writing, after all.

Subject: a briefing?

Dweebs hems and haws, then mumbles something about helping. When the group sticks their heads under the table, he wisely does not follow suit... but he does irritatingly remain at your table, and appears to be eavesdropping without trying to look like he is doing so.

Once your heads are under the table, the whisper continues.

"Congratulations on your promotions, troubleshooters. It is I, your friend, The Computer. I hope that you are all happy.

You will soon be even happier! I have a fun mission for you. It is perfectly safe, and really easy, especially for a team of seasoned professionals such as yourselves. The only thing is, its a secret. I mean, REALLY a secret. No one is even to know that we are talking right now, got it?

I will now assign each of you your role on the team. These roles were determined using an advanced statistical model taking into account your skills, temperments, and qualifications. These roles are as follows:

Team Leader: Ammpe-R-AGE.

Loyalty Officer: Artie-R-FCL.

Hygiene Officer: Slipp-R-YEE.

Morale Officer: Brighte-R-NNU.

Communications Officer: Blowz-R-UPP.

Equipment Control Officer: Steam-R-LLR.

You will of course perform these duties to the best of your abilities.

You all must immediately report to a briefing where you will be told all about this highly enjoyable task. The Computer is your friend. Trust the Computer. Don't tell anyone. Don't let anyone know."

If any of you bothered to glance out at the cafeteria, you will notice that quite a few clones have noticed your group with your heads under the table. Suddenly, every available speaker roars with the Computer's voice.

"STOP THAT!!!"

A hush falls over the cafeteria, and all eyes now pointedly look away from your team - though it is certainly impossible that they are unaware of your presence.

The Computer resumes its instructions.

"Get to Section 168 of Sector SWR, out the door and take a left. NOW. Thank you for your cooperation."

The speaker falls slient. Dweebs continues to hang around your table, though his eyes are also focused elsewhere.

It is typical for mages to wear robes whenever, especially those who are proud of their status as mages (and the stagus the Circle grants them).  Theydo not HAVE to wear robes except for formal occasions, though armor is obviously out.

Most Circle mages especially wear their robes at all times.

Please note that as a final edit to a new player taking the character, Midge is now a member of the Walkers of the Planes, as opposed to the Secret Storm.  His robes are now orange - and the connection here in town only belongs to Atharis.

Things are still hot and heavy, obviously.

Since no one has applied magical healing yet, and you haven't had time for natural healing, any wounds from the earlier fight are unchanged.  Note that Aranwen is hurt worse than before, though still not seriously.

Health:
Ch'dau - minor wounds
Aranwen - minor wounds
Gib - moderate wound
Kithran - minor wound
Midge - unwounded
Cedric - unwounded
Atharis - unwounded

Kithran - you didn't give me a contingency plan beyond helping Ch'dau, and since he had his window well covered, you had no opening to act.

Atharis - you gave no plan beyond "see what's going on and act a little tipsy", so I did not presume to cast spells or attack for your mage.

Cedric - you gave no plan beyond "bless people", so that is what you did.

Topic: The Corruption Hidden Beneath the Surface...
Subject: into the breach!

Ch'dau reaches the common room and heads for the right side window, and is soon joined by Gib on the left.

Cedric blesses the party members as they hurry down the stairs.  Midge begins his incantation, and finishes just as the first two indead break their way into the common room.  A swarm of creepy crawlies arise from he earth and begin devouring the dead flesh of those undead - though they are not enough to stop them.

Fortunately, Aranwen is able to head them off.  The bladesinger deftly steps in and slices a huge chunk of flesh from one of the walking dead.  Unfortunately, her moving to engage brings her a bit too close to the swarm of insects, which issue a fair number of painful stings and bites.

The warrior cat and warrior priest find themselves with a huge advantage; the dead are coming through relatively small openings, and are slow and stiff.  Both are able to strike down foes before they can get through, but the bodies are simply pulled out of the window and replaced by more walking dead!  Gib's efforts at calling for Therassor's aid provide a moments respite, but no more... any that may have fled are replaced by a press of bodies.

Aranwen finds that she cannot press far enough ahead to hold the door without sustaining serous damage from the swarm of insects; the bugs continue to carve the flesh from the zombies (and one falls still from the onslaught), but soon, there are five in the common room.  From the sound outside, it seems there is a horde of the shamblers!

And then, a swift form dashes through the swarm and joins the fray.  Cackling maniacally is another of the paralysis-inducing creatures from the road... only this one looks quite freshly dead.  And is wearing tattered robes of sky blue.

Topic: Paranoia: Commies Q&A
Subject: Paranoia: Commies Q&A

This will be the official Q&A thread for my game, Paranoia: the Only Good Commie is a Dead Commie.

If you have qustions about your character, any secret societies you may be part of, any mutations that you may have, or any secret missions that you may be assigned... I suggest that you PM me.  You may, of course, post questions about those things here, but doing so exposes your treason... and I wouldn't put it past other Troubleshooters to metagame information about treason.

Remember - youare part of a six pack of clones.  If you die (you will die), your character will be quickly replaced by an identical duplicate.

You don't have to post novellas, but if you are boring, you run a drastically increased risk of death.  So share your character's thoughts as appropriate, and be dramatic - fire that laser as you dive across a table and slide behind a trash can for cover.  Don't draw out firing solutions, lest you die for being boring.

Speaking of laser pistols...

I'm sure that nobody will ask me about laser pistols, or why most of you have two laser barrels that match your security clearance. That is likely because you all know Paranoia very well, and don't need to ask.

Just in case, however, you should know that laser pistol barrels act very much like an ammo supply. Each barrel is good for six presumably safe shots (assuming you have no amusing malfunctions). Barrels have six rings on them, each of which change color to indicate a use (in case your troubleshooter has trouble with simple memory tasks).

You may fire more than six shots with a given barrel, but note that every shot above six results in an ever-increasing chance of (amusing/deadly) weapon malfunction.

Barrels coincide to the security clearance given to an owner (you guys have red barrels). Standard issue reflec armor protects against lasers, and is designed to protect againt lasers of up to that color's security clearance (Yellow armor, for instance, protects against yellow, orange, and red lasers, but not green or blue).

You may use any barrel you come across, but of course doing so of a higher color than you have clearance is treason.

Have a nice day.

Meal-time! You are a brand-new Red troubleshooter team, identification number MAO-17859 Dot R-2. Just this morning-cycle you were called away from your positions - scrubbing the food vats, stamping paperwork in triplicate, repairing live wires, and similar fulfilling tasks - and told of your promotions from lowly Infared status. What a wonderful thing!

Now, after a busy morning-cycle of brain-conditioning and long lines, you find yourselves in a Red clearance cafeteria for lunch. What a place this is; thousands of smiling red level citizens, all happy and proud to serve the computer, just as you were reminded earlier today.

There are rows of monitors lining the celing, all showing the single all-seeing eye or some of your favorite sayings (such as "Mutants are nasty, kill one today!"). The six of you now sit together at a table under one of the monitors, with a chance to talk to each other for the first time over a plate of Faithful Joy and Loyal Reward, with Bouncy Bubble Beverage to drink and a saucer of Hot Fun for dessert.

You are also joined by another citizen, Dweebs-R-GRT, who can't find his mission group and has latched onto yours.

The table is only large enough for six clones, but Dweebs is trying to fit, anyway. This scrawny, pasty-skinned clone has made a pest of himself, asking question after question. Apparently, his assigned team ditched him for some reason, causing him to act like a lost puppy.

Suddenly, amidst the noise of the cafeteria, you hear a whisper. "Hey, troubleshooters! Yes, you, Team MAO-17859 Dot R-2! Down here! Yes, down here, under the table! Now!"

I had a post almost wrapped, when I realized that I have a serious issue with the "new" Midge.  He's listed as an Evoker, a member of the Secret Storm like Atharis.  But Ayrn's new spell list was for a Conjurer - and I somehow missed that fact.

Fun fact: conjuration/summoning is a direct opposition school for invocation/evocation.  So something has to give.

We're either retconning Midge as a different class, or Ayrn is going to have to swap his spell list and retcon his last post.

I'm leaving that up to him, but I do need this fixed prior to combat.

If you have any questions about the rules - sorry, but rules are Ultraviolet clearance.  Since you are a Red, that information would be treasonous for you to possess.
