Subject: mending loose ends.

The faint, dreamy light highlighted his dark hair, the agony and sadness across his features. Tears of pain streamed across his pallid features, his eyes, so innocent and ancient, so bright and so sad fixed upon her with a lucid clarity. The face of her, although so near, was blurry, wavering dangerously, like a candle within the shadows. He cast his despairing eyes around at the silent, rugged faces, and saw not one. His flesh jerked at her touch as she wiped the running bloodstains from his chest and as gently as he was able he caught her wrist. He stared forth, searching, longing, wanting, knowing.

Shaking her head slightly as she felt his hand catch her wrist, she stopped instantly. Her eyes shifted questioningly. Yet she didn't speak to him.

“No one knows”, came a murmur within the dark. A heavy-set, broad-shouldered man stepped forward, his normally rubicund complexion an alarming shade of white, his gaze fixedly set on the dying youth. He sighed and ran a hand through his greasy locks. “We found ‘im clinging to wreckage in the midst of the ocean, no one knows how ‘e got there. “ He glanced up sharply at the mention of the youth’s name. “So that’s ‘im, eh? No wonder ‘es dying. “ He scratched his nose reflectively and grunted. “Some of the lads, they’ve been telling me all sorts o’ rubbish about the government being after ‘’im eh? They’ve got nothing to do but to sink a few ruddy pirate ships while the rest of us go starving…”.

“The Falcon don’t exist”, a lithe hard-faced man responded coldly. “Even you know that. It’s only children’s tales, mate, and I tell you this Septimus chap doesn’t exist neither. “. The other man snorted.“If it don’t exist and it wasn’t destroyed”, he retorted, “’ow’s come we ‘aven’t been seeing it?” The lithe man slapped his friend upside the head. “You idiot. We ‘aven’t been seeing it because it don’t exist”.

The woman laughed "The Falcon exists, as much as I would hate to admit it. But yes, it exists, and yes this is Septimus Sandalwood. Known pirate, the one the government seeks. If anyone would know it would be me. He's been in and out of my life." she didn't continue her statement, but instead tried pulling her wrist free from his grasp.

“Then what ‘appened to ‘im, eh?”, the heavyset man questioned. “E’s definitely been fighting”. He pointed a ruddy finger towards the pale, shivering youth. His dark hair lay tousled, nearly covering the dark, depth-less eyes that still focused intently on Victoria, eyes as maddeningly bright as a rabid fox’s, two endless poisoned wells. “Lily’s dead”, he murmured through his trembling, and his hand tightened on her wrist. He shivered violently and rolled over on his side, coughing. Blood ran from his mouth in thin streamers, his body shook unmercifully with tremors. “My girl is dead”.

She gasped and froze, turning pale "No. That can't be! She was a fighter, and always had been. There is no way that she is dead! Tell me the truth!!" she was fretful. Her face pale as milk, her body frozen solid. The woman could tell he was in pain, but she shook her head and struggled to keep him conscious so he could reveal what happened.

“The Red Man is back”, he cried out feverishly, creating words of uneasy astonishment from the rough sailors. “ I knew you would understand! He murdered your sister. He slaughtered my children”. Beads of sweat stood out on his milk-white skin and fell, running in streamlets over his pitifully thin chest, the exposed rack of his ribs. “My children are dead”. A sharp barking laugh escaped his numbed lips, devoid of any sanity. “He sent his men to kill me, but I am still alive”.

His nails dug into her skin.

Her features froze as if suddenly she were a statue, and she gasped, her eyes swelled up into tears. The woman had always hated Septimus, for stealing her older sister from her, shortly after the death of her parents. Leaving her to work in this bar. The woman didn't move at all for a short while, her features frozen in place. The only sign of movement from the woman was the tears that had swollen in her eyes, and began falling freely down her face. "No! Tell me it isn't true!"

“I…am… still…alive...”.

And just as quickly as it began, the madness ended. The tremors ended and his body became perfectly still. His eyes slipped closed and his hand fell limply from her wrist. Short, uneven breathing racked his thin chest.

The two bloody bullet-wounds shone with a sickly beauty, like two rubies embedded deeply in his white flesh. “My daughter…”, he whispered, and the tears ran from beneath his closed eyelids. “My son…”.

In this moment she bit her lip, tears flowing, she pulled out the bullet shards, and cleaned his wounds. Despite her hatred for him. She had an obligation to heal him. Her sobs were silent, and for the first time since she was young, she mourned the loss of her parents, mourned the loss of her sister, and her niece and nephew. While tending to her sister's love.

Subject: royal blood working in the bar.

A regal woman, about 25 years of age, with pale skin stands behind the bar cleaning glasses of all sorts. Her forest green eyes stand out beautifully from the rest of her features. The humans long black locks cascading down her back freely, and bouncing with each step she took.

The womans parents had died many years ago, having been born to a wealthy family that had lost everything just before the loss of her beloved parents. Now she was forced to work in the tavern in order to pay her bills. She lived in the Tavern to cut her costs down to the bare minimal. Victoria was the name of the rich-born, now tavern dweller that felt alone in the world. After their parents death, she could clearly remember her sister running off with a Pirate. Of all people, her older sister Lily had to go run off and start a family with a pirate.

Septimus Sandalwood was the pirate that had promised her sister a wonderful life. The kind of life that died with their parents only a year before they met. The day she saw Septimus she knew that Lily had made the wrong choice to run off with him and become a pirate. That day she vowed to hate pirates, no matter how smooth they talked.

Corelan was the worst thing to ever happen to them, in her opinion. Since they moved here, they lost their parents, and Victoria lost her sister to the most well-known pirate in the open waters. Victoria could sometimes swear that she was the only woman who didn't want the pirate in any means shape or form. Yet as a bartender, she had to listen to everyone's fantasies and play as if she agreed with their every statement.

Suddenly the doors had burst open and the one pirate she disliked the most was suddenly in her bar. On his death bed, she shook her head and found a clean cloth, rinsed it in warm water and walked over to him soundlessly. Shaking her head slightly she spoke "Septimus Sandalwood, what has happened to you?" she didn't ask him, but was more asking in general. Slowly she went to work on healing her sister's lover.

Subject: Unanswered questions...

Alyssia watched as the beast fell in defeat, and yet still something didn't seem to feel right within her. Everyone was tending to the injured, and yet she simply stood there searching her surroundings. Unanswered questions raced through her mind as she moved soundlessly along with her companions.

Who or what had caused the sound barrier? Was it indeed the Lizard, or was it somebody else, of higher power, who was making it seem as if it were the Lizard who harboured those powers? Why was the lizard attacking with physical attacks if it harboured magical abilities? Who had caused the lizard to become Giant and so unearthly?

The questions continued to swirl in her mind, hundreds of questions, that she decided not to voice. Alyssia kept to herself, despite the urge to question it. Her face remained as if a sculpture, the only sign that she lived was that she walked and was breathing. Features remained the same, save the questions that raced through her mind. The Sorceress' face showed nothing of her thoughts, and she seemed to trail slightly behind the others, when normaly she would be further ahead.

Soundlessly she moved with her companions, occasionally turning her gaze towards Draven trying to catch his attention. For many nights she had been trying to find time to speak with him in private without the prying eyes of others.

When Wolf went around the corner of the inn, Quilanday whispered to them: "We follow him, but I don't trust him one bit. Be ready for the unexpected."

As Quilanday had spoken, the sorcerer took mental note of the distrust for Wolf. Silently she glanced towards Draven, the tallest member of the group, trying to read his features. It had been a few days since their last exchange, and he had remained quiet since.

Walking through the village, Wolf leading the way, Quilanday, Elessarae, Thondrek, Malius, Geim, Aluwego and Loda follwing with herself and Draven taking up the rear. Alyssia's soft blue eyes noticed not all bodies had been mutilated, but that those that didn't show on the outside, would surely reveal themselves on the inside. Occasionally she would turn to glance at Draven and try giving a small smile to him. Since their last encounter she had tried to steal a moment with him, to speak with him alone, but hadn't found the time, or proper moment.

The journey continued, leaving the village behind. The trees looked healthy and bright in the rising day. The air was calm and the forest seemed at peace. But there were no birds to sing praise to the beauty surrounding them. There were no squirrels jumping from branch to branch, finding food and each other. The forest lacked wildlife, and without it, it was a desolate place. Alyssia had loved the forests and it seemed so dreary a place to be when the animals vacated the premises.

Something was out of place, she just couldn't put her finger on it. Glancing ahead, Wolf didn't seem the least bit disturbed by the lack of wildlife, as he seemed to fail to notice the mutated souls in the village. After what seemed an eternity, Wolf had suddenly stopped, without words, and raised his sword. Suspiciously, Alyssia grasped her quarterstaff firmly, ready for action, when suddenly a strange feeling washed over her. They could all feel how a sudden pulse went through their bodies, tightening muscles in spasms and uncontrolled reflexes.

After the creature's unheard roar it struck the companions that they could not communicate. It took them a little while longer to realize the impact the silence had on their skills as a team. Alyssia decided to pray from her heart to Lysora to whom she was bound by faith. "Lysora, I hope I have followed your guidance properly. I ask that you give me the courage and power to overcome our enemy if it is your will." her prayer was silent, in her mind, knowing that it would be heard, yet knew not the whole plan that Lysora had in store for her.

Gothard managed the first attack against the Giant Lizard that had sprung out of the bushes. He drew blood from the foe's flank. Quilanday followed Gothard's lead and attacked the Lizard's flank only inches from where Gothard had punctured deep into the skin of their foe. Geimiedefher, she noticed, was muttering words, but they could not be heard over the silent barrier that kept them all hostage. Wolf got up reached for his sword. He flung it at the creature a little too wild, and he missed it by three feet.

During this time the Giant Lizard had managed to capture Quilanday as a hostage with its sharp claws and bite down upon their companion. Malius shot their foe with an arrow, sinking it into the center of its leg. The giant lizard stunned only slight, released their comrade and took a couple steps away from the party.

Glancing towards Draven, Elessarae and Aluwego and noticed they hadn't moved at all since the strange feeling had washed over each of them. Being a sorceress she knew the sound barrier would only last a certain distance. Everything had its limits, and she decided to back away from the monster until the strange feeling no longer grasped her muscles. Muttering to herself as she walked until she could hear what she was saying. Turning back towards the lizard she had cast Magic Missiles once she left the limits of the silence bubble.

Subject: Karlana....

Go to Drungelle, your first challenge will be there. Stop at Yartar on the way, they will tell you where to go...

That was four weeks ago, and now they finally made it. Drungelle. A half a mile outside of town, and they almost missed it. A path meandered off of the beaten road, and a felled sign was quickly spotted. It pointed out to where Drungelle was, and it was the sign they were told to look for in Yartar. They travelled down the path and soon found themselves heading towards their destination. Small hills dotted outside with one cattle ranch outside of town. Behind it a few miles is the High Forest.

As they entered the town, they got a feeling of comfort and hospitality. It is much smaller than Yartar and the small community made it feel more personal. They walked on the one main cobblestone street, which was flanked by houses all the way down. They could see the other end a well, and two streets veering left and right in the town. It they could get a birds eye view, it would look like one big T. the street that headed left ended in a Large church, and the other a well looking Mansion. Soon in front of them a lady appeared.

The lady who appeared in front of them would be looking upon, a half-elf named Rao, a wood elf named Karlana, her animal companion (wolf), a sun elf named Mourn, his cohort, also an elf, and Brendalla, a halfling, with her companion Maximillion. The wolf seemed to be gentle with people, and though full blooded timber wolf, people often mistook him for a mutt of a common dog.

Karlana was dressed in her black leather breeches, black cotton low cut snug fitting shirt. A black hooded cloak and leather boots. Her attire was completely waterproof. Silvery white locks cascading down to her lower back, seemed to spring to life with each graceful stride. Cornflower blue eyes eagerly drinking the sights of the new city.

Drungelle was a beautiful sight to see, but their exploration was cut short by an older woman. She was clothed in black, cotton dress with leather shoes and a dark veil. She approached them slowly with an old man arm in arm with her. He was well in age, showing clear through his wrinkled skin on his face. He wore a pale yellow robe with a symbol upon the front of it. This was a blooming rose on a sunburst wreathe of golden grain. He held a staff made of gnarled wood in his right hand, and the lady in his left. They finally came to the adventurers, who had entered past a small village of hovels that resided directly outside the town.

The woman spoke through her downed veil.

"We welcome you to Drungelle, a small and cozy town that makes you feel right at home, no matter who you are."

Karlana had decided by such a statement, that the woman was closed-minded. That she simply assumed everyone was the same and that they would all feel at home in a small town. Rumours had found her, warning her of people who assumed everyone was the same. The elf noticed the woman look at each person in turn, her features revealing nothing of her thoughts about the strange eldery couple. The lady bore a hint of sadness in the means she dressed, and in her features. The ranger was quick to take note of such things.

"Oh my, I bet your wondering why I am dressed like this. Well, it's a sad story that I must tell you. But first I need to say that we need your help. Four of our beloved people have vanished. There names are Tren, Wenta, Jorsh, and my nephew...Ristim. They all have vanished. We have searched and searched but do not know where they are. I think it's just bandits wanting a ransom, and I expect to get one soon, but the parents of these young people wanted action now. I didn't know what to do, I am just glad you're here!"

She takes a step back, and looks to the ground.

" Oh, I am sorry. You people have just come here and now I am throwing all of this at you. I probably just detered you away from here. I'm sorry let me properly introduce myself. My name is Venithia. And this is Dunalel."

The ranger took the initiative to introduce them to the elderly couple. She started to her left gesturing to each in turn "Raolonlo Greyclaw, Mourn Eveningfall, Brendalla Kinogallan, Aramil, Maximillion and I am Karlana Beawulf. We are honoured to meet you Venithia and Dunalel." she gave a nod in introduction.

They both smile and nod, greeting the party. Dunalel raises his wrinkled hand from her arm and speaks slowly.

" I would just like to thank you for coming to our town and as I have already been introduced I would like to add I am one of the priests of Chauntea that live here. I know Venithia has said everything that is needed to know to you all, and before you turn and go away from this sudden attack of information I would just like to say that there is a reward we have pooled together. It was going to be the possible ransom, but they don't need it."

He smiles and blinks slowly, as if age is slowly creeping up on him, ready to take him at any moment.

The young ranger smiled kindly to the elders, and she nodded when he said he was a priest she gave a half bow. The ranger knew that priests could often help in sticky situations, but they would have to sit for supper before they would decide how to act in regards to this sudden attack of information upon arrival in a strange new city.

Softly she spoke anew "Venithia, Dunalel, allow us time to discuss it as a group. We shall dine in, and discuss the matters at hand, after supper we will get back to you kind folk, with our decision. Whether we agree to embark on this wild goose chase, or if we choose to continue on our way." not once had she made reference to the reward. Turning to her companions she spoke softly "friends, let us go find some supper" she fell silent quickly.
