Subject: IMOHO

Had he posted that he had RL issues and/or would be absent for a while (however long), as did Grugg for all of his games, I would say let the character ride for a bit and we can still move on.

Bu-u-u-ut since he didn't ...

Moving on without Grakh, and with or without a new character would be fine with me. But CirroWolf is hunting for a game and likes to play paladins and rangers, if the DM is looking for a replacement ... (hint, hint)

such is my thinking/vote/2 cents ...

While I understand your reasoning for funding as you describe it, I think the reason for the questions might be:

When you described the character creation process, you told us that we had one weaoon, armor (no heavier than medium), cold weather gear, knapsack, and 3 days rations. Amything else would come from you.

That is how my own character was created. I was under the impression that the characters had only what you listed and nothing more than what you gave them after that. Nothing was said about the amount of starting money at creation.

I created Utan back when I was playing the original D&D boxed set (a few years ago for Table Top gaming -- No Internet then). He has evolved and been translated and updated to adventure in Boxed set, 1e (AD&D), 2e (AD&D), 3e, and 3e5. He's been around for a while ...

More information in PM (to keep the clutter down ...)

Subject: My turn again!

Back, Cirro! And in answer, I have a question:

Are you looking for a spot to PLAY a paladin or ranger, or a spot to play OFF of one? And do you have a preferred level or level range?

Without knowing the answers to either of those queries, I offer these suggestions:

Rylanor -- The building of an Empire (DM: Dragon Mistress, free-form game thread, D&D-based)

The Chakran Portal -- An adventure in Audalis (DM: Almerin, RDInn-created world, D&D-based)

A Cold Day In Hell (DM: t_catt11, modified Sci-Fi Army Rangers)

Forgotten Realms -- The Unsung Heroes (DM: Kaelyn, interesting-concept, D&D-based)

The Inconceivable Crusaders (DM: Okron, another interesting-concept, D&D-based game)

I am in all of the above, and all are currently closed or full, but many games either allow, or post for, additional or replacement players. So if any game pigue yer interest, contact the DM/GM and ask. It never hurts. And keep an eye on the recruitment thread area for new games starting.

Side note to this ever-lengthening diatribe:
Most D&D games here are either 3e or 3e5 (v3.0 or v3.5 D&D), but some actually use the 2e rules. If you need any character conversion to, or creation in, a version you don't have, I can help there. Also, you can place a query in the general area asking for links to any/all 3e or 3e5 data online. You'll most likely get loads of helpful people to assist you there ...

Okay, I'm done now. Again, welcome!

After setting a steaming glass on the table, the barkeep spoke loud enough for all to hear, but looking at Percifeer, "You bring him his drink. He's sitting over there in the corner."

Pao waited for a few moments for Percifeer's reaction or suggestions, but when she didn't seem ready, he reached into his belt pouch and pulled out a pair of knit gauntlet inserts, placing the left-hand one back into the pouchm, he donned the right one, stood, and picked up the glass wit the gloved hand. It simply wouldn't do to deliver a cold drink when it was meant to be hot.

"I'm going to do this, alone or otherwise. Anyone else care to join me? Without waiting for an answer, he moved around the table, his left hand clutching his visible holy symbol in a brief and fervent prayer for guidance and strength. He headed to where the drink was supposed to go.

As he approached the table, he sought to ascertain details about who or what was seatd there. However, he did not halt or falter in his approach to do so. When he reached the table, he stopped and spoke, without introduction, "Which of you is Virgin Stuart? You have something for me. For us." As he spoke, he placed the drink he carried in the center of the table.

Almost without thinking he had adopted the method of dealing with others that was often used by some of his own superiors in the temple, sure of their position, ability, and knowledge, and letting their reputation power their words. He allowed himself a half-smile, proud of himself that he no longer felt the need to introduce or explain himself as a matter of course.

But this was going to be far from easy, and well he knew that. He had intended to feign bored patience, but found that he actually felt that patience, and calmly awaited an answer or reaction.

Grugg beat me to the standard warning around here.

Welcome, CirroWolf!

As far as names go, I like yours. Kinda reminds me of he name of a fictional detective, Nero Wolfe. I have a penchant for taking words and phrases (and sometimes even real names) and creating odd names from them by rearranging sylaables and letters.

My own is an example: Take my first name and put it after the last, then drop the "e" in "Orange" ...

Gorshak heard the words of Jevaf's signal as clearly as Maaht must have but, again, his reaction time was a little off. As Maaht pushed off the wall Gorsh was in the process of reaching up to unsheath Foecutter.

Instead, and as if planned, at Maaht's movement Gorsh removed his hand from Foecutter's hilt and turned around to put fingers to mouth for a loud whistle to the others outside. To his chagrin, as he was drawing breath for the signal, he saw the silhouette of the cat-man barreling toward him at full tilt.

Too late he learned that at least Drassar had heard Jevaf's words as well. Gorsh hesitated a split-second to decide whether to turn and try and run ahead of the cat-man, or simply dodge out of the way of the running Drassar. Unfortunately, indecision won out and he was bowled over by Drassar's moving mass.

Frantically he tried to clamber to his feet and follow as quickly as possible, this time grabbing his bow and pulling an arrow instead of his scimitar.

Rouinding the corner after the others, he moves to the left, arrow nocked and half-drawn, looking for others who might be hiding amongst the stalagmites

According to the DM:

Quote:

I took that to mean that we provide the list based on our character's upbrining, training, and/or experience "to date", and sent in my list accordingly.

And no fair adding yourself to the list!

Gorsh didn't immediately understand what Drassar wanted, and was not happy when the felinoid, "playing the part", ordered them outside.

His brief start was halted by Maaht's hand on his shoulder, pulling him back to the wall of the passage. Gorshak was even more confused, but only briefly. When he noticed Maaht put his morning star aside, he placed his own bow behind him also, but didn't bother to sruggle out from under the quiver.

For the umpteenth time, he thanked Moradin that he had chosen a favored weapon other than the traditional axe or warhammer! The scimitar that he called "Foecutter" was curved and worn so that it did not protrude to either side of his dwarven width, but was easily drawn by crossing his left hand to the hilt, just over his right shoulder. He waited in silence for the next act in this "play" ...

While we're waiting for our "issue of equipment", Falas' character and mine can engage in a game of chance called "go-dice".

It consists of nine (9) dice each marked with characters of the Baelenoan alphabet, some having all consonants, some having all vowels, and some having both consonants and vowels.
The object is to roll all the dice and have a number of the dice spell the Baelenoan equivalent of the word "go" (i.e., "go", or "jond", or "alu", etc.).

1 __ Starting bets are placed, raised, and/or matched, until all players have an equal amount in the pot.

2 __ Then all players roll -- once.

3 __ If one gets the dice to spell "go",that player wins the pot.
___ If more than one player spells "go", all have to match the pot, thereby tripling the amount (or more).
___ If no player spells "go", then wagering, raising, and matching begins again, all adding to the existing unclaimed amount. (no winner, go to step 1.)
____ If a player cannot match a current wager or raise, that player is considered a "token", and may roll in the current round, but is out of subsequent rounds unless he (or she) can find another source of funds. All wagers to that point are forfeit. Any raises or matches that player is not able to "fade" (cover or match), must be paid back to the other players from any won pot or "windfall source of funds". ( again, if no winner go to step 1.)

4 __ If one player manages to spell "go" twice in the same roll (each on completely diffferent dice), that player (or the first player to do so) wins the pot AND an amount equaling the pot from all players. That game then ends for the duration of the day for, by cultural tradition, the gods have favored the dice-wielder and none may take more from him, nor may he take more from the other players. However another game may begin again -- but without the "favored one".

Needless to say, wagers are usually small or at least conservative. And, of course, the game DOES require the ability to read ...

Hearing Dai's original assessment of Miran and Percifeer "pairing" nearly brought a chuckle from Pao, buthe forced himdelf to silence because he didn't want to seem as if he was making fun of Dai's lack of knowledge of the two. As it was, he smiled broadly.
When Miran voiced the reason for Percifeer's efforts after his own reaction to Dai's statement, Pao was glad that it was as least "sotto voce" and not meant to carry beyond the table.

Ocyari was darting looks at everyone at the table, trying to take it all in, and seeming to take it all "in stride'. Pao entertained the notion that her observational abilities and quick wit could actually prove useful in certain circumstances.

When Percifeer returned to the table and poured herself all over Miran again, Pao patiently waited for her to pass on anything -- anything at all -- that she had learned.

The information he sought (ora at least some of it), came from the barkeep, who set a drink on the table. "You bring him his drink. He's sitting over there in the corner."

When the bartender had left, reached out and touched the glass lightly with his fingertips. He then mused out loud. "A hot drink? In a glass, not a mug with a handle? And the bartender felt no discomfort. Whoever is supposed to get this wouldn't either, but we would."

At this he drops his own "thinking-out-loud" pretense. "This is a test to indicate whether or not we're one of them. Whoever picks up the glass should do so with their "off" hand, if they plan to keep up any pretense. They intend for one or all of us to move farther awsy from the exit. The farther we move away from it the farther we will have to travel to get out in a hurry. And I see us as having to leave in a big hurry, regardless of what happens from here on."

Gorsh cracked a huge smile at Maaht's quick thinking. Portraying the dark elven female as the boss and the rest as her lackeys might not even seem unusual to the invisible voice.

The only way that Gorsh could keep from bursting out in a guffaw at the absurdity Maaht had suggested was to stammer, "Y'Y'Yeah, b'b'b'boss! W'What he s's'said!". He hoped his amusement wasn't betrayed by his attempt to play "another witless minion".

Through the haze of pain, Pearson wondered if any bones were broken. Sure felt like it! That f@(#ing monster had picked him up, gear and all, and threw him like a cow-chip! Then he heard, or thought he did, the Corp'ral calling Sargeant Kane.

"I just thought that the area of the observatory keeps switching about and different times and places keep popping up there. Perhaps you could keep trying to call the others and if they return, tell them to get out of that area."

Without sitting up or even turning his head (it hurt!), he spoke, painfully, "Corp'ral? I don't think ... they're there anymore ... If they were in ... the cave, that thing ... would'a got them too ... an' they weren't there ... that I saw, but ... they might be where ... the 'servat'ry went ..." Here, Pearson was wracked with coughing from the effort to get his idea across. The coughing subsided relatively quickly, leaving the private weak and breathing raggedly, grimacing in pain but silent except for an occasional soft grunt.
