Subject: To the Rescue?

"Betrayal," whispers Anyroth.

"It is only an illusion," Ansgar breathes.

"Betrayal of the living. Nixmir's legacy. We are witnessing this as if this mirror were a window. There is no time. I'm sorry."

Searo quietly grasps each of your pinky fingers as you huddle around the mirror. Perhaps reflexively you assume that the child-sized person is seeking some kind of comfort, and think little of it. Suddenly, the three of you are surrounded by small white tracers of light that quickly (within 3 seconds) form a cylindrical wall of light. The light becomes brilliant, blocking the view of the room, mirror, and even the smell of the food. All goes white.

For a moment, you are suspended in nothingness. The first thing you notice is the smell of dirt, blood and the putrid smell of decaying flesh. The cold hits you with full effect, the temperature dropping below -25 in an instant. Then your vision clears in an instant and you find yourselves standing in the same close grouping, exactly where the mirror seemed to be in distance from the melee. The fight is now directly in front of you. Solomon is flanked by two undead things, the wrappings of their funerary preparations little more than tattered strips hanging off of them. They moan and hiss with evident desire to end his life and they are quite unaware of you.

((There is a map, but it is not necessary yet. You stand on either side of Searo, within 30' of Solomon, and he is flanked on either side by a humanoid. Two more are approaching him from the opposite side and will take two rounds to get within melee of him.))

((Please roll initiative.))

Subject: The Secret Chamber

Searo pulls the tapestry aside and handed the corner to Anyroth, who pushed it aside farther. The Halfling gingerly touched three places on the arched metal door in seemingly random places. The door makes a some sounds similar to bolts opening and the seal opens. The little sorcerer labors to pull the door open under its own weight.

"There is a...contingency...ugh... Solomon... the king... if the barrier drops, I am alerted, as are a few others... the barrier is down."

He pulls the door the rest of the way open (assuming help from Anyroth) and goes inside. The interior of the chamber is backlit with a strange blue glow. The room is mostly empty with the exception of some oddly shaped furniture covered up with sheets on one side of the room. On the far end, where Searo is going, stands some kind of rack-like object also covered in a sheet.

"Gnomes. They make the most intriguing devices. During the siege of Duncan and the resulting calamity, I and some of my associates, Tseng, Jonas, Phoebe... we uncovered an odd machine that seems to cancel out magic in a variable radius. This magical barrier caused many problems until we learned what it was for. It was for marching an army across the world without being detectable or subject to magical attack. Solomon's army carries it with them. When the bell started ringing...it told me that the device was deactivated."

He yanks the sheet away to reveal a full length vanity mirror, framed in a swivel stand of the finest oak. The mirror seems to reflect a backlit image, so even in this eery blue darklight, Searo's reflection is easy to see.

"Show me Solomon Vasgar." the Halfling speaks loud and clear, and his reflection mists away. You see the movement of some milky blurry objects and then a hundred yelloww pinpoints, almost as if the view is moving across a field of torches. When your eyes adjust, you see that is exactly what is being displayed. Suddenly, the view drops onto a field of snow and blood. The sounds of clanging swords and dying men can be heard. The projection on the mirror stops on a man in his early midddle years, beard of mostly black but some grey, mithril breastplate with the crest of Griffon's Mane. His head is wreathed in a golden laurel crown and his face is locked in the snarl of battle. His bastard sword high, he faces off in melee with two ragged undead humanoid monsters, with another two approaching him. Behind him is a backdrop of mass combat. A battle rages at this very moment and the king of Devlinsgrimm is in the middle of it.

Subject: Searo's Revelation

Searo studies Ansgar for a moment. "I knew that attempting to lure you with information I could not give would not work. I would have it..."

Searo's concentration is broken by the entrance of his servant.

"Tseng, what is it?"

"Master, the little bell is ringing." Tseng looks nervous.

Searo smiles. "Take the pies out. The should be..."

"No, master. The other little bell..."

Searo's face freezes and the smile cracks. "Oh no." The color in his face visibly turns three shades lighter. The halfling leaps to his feet and runs to the other side of the room.

"Something's wrong with Solomon! Hurry now!" the frantic halfling jerks a gold leafed tapestry, tearing it off the wall. Behind the tapestry seems to be some kind of vault door.

Subject: In light of recent information

What Kilton said about the gods was something very close to heresy in some religions. This made me wonder and I realized why no one said anything was because I have made little mention of the deities. This may be what kept anyone from choosing cleric. Now I have more time to write, I think I'll do so. I will make a short list and highlight their major personalities.

The House of Quilestra
Quilestra - The Dragon God, the Scintillating Dragon. The only known true deity. Represents all alignments and all things draconic. Omnipotent and omnipresent. Can manifest across all planes at once, has done so once. Sees the future and the past as part of the dimensions of the object called 'Pellios'. Thought to be a combination of Bahamut and Tiamat. Priests can be of any alignment and draconic heritage is not a requirement. Paladins are Dragon Disciple Prestige Class.

Zifnab - The Merchant God. Often called the Skin Dragon, he is depicted as a dragon with a quilted skin of what seems to be human flesh. The stories in the East (Agoria) describe him as having a store in every city that only those in need may find. Has played a major role in opposing Kharsis' advance north into Agoria. Is said to have invented money.

The House of Charnuggen
Charnuggen - The Lord of the Scales, god of Justice and Wisdom in War. Ensures that the law is enforced. Acted as Patron Deity after the Forsaking until the rebirth of the Dragon God. Priests of Charnuggen are called Magistrates and in many places form the higher echelons of the town guard and the judicial system. Magistrates can detect lies at will. Paladins are the Justiciar Prestige Class.

Mask - Patron goddess of thieves, goddess of feminine deceit and trickery. Sister of Charnuggen. Opposes her brother's commitment to the law and openly opposes it. Both represent the eternal struggle between law and crime. Most Thieves' Guilds pay tithes to the church of Mask. Priests (Theiel) are always female, paladins (Tamar, Assassin Prestige Class) are always male.

Mushai - god of Darkness and Evil. Twin brother of Charnuggen and mortal enemy. Opposes his brother's ambivalent denial of morality in the pursuit of law and represents the struggle for the law to become absolute and therefore innately corrupt. Lord of the legions of the Lawful Evil Infernals of the Nine Hells. Priests are always necromantic and paladins are the Blackguard Prestige Class.

Glot - the Dealmaker, Guardian of the Gates of Hell. Patron Deity of lawyers, moneylenders, landlords, tax men and swindlers. Horribly deformed bastard son of Mask and Charnuggen, result of interference by Mushai. Opposes the machinations of all the other deities and his gospel(story) represents the consequences of all manner of societal sins: Incest, sibling rivalry, Oedipus complexes, greed, lust, bigotry and racism. Prists are called Barristers and often challenge the authority of the Magistrates of Charnuggen, sometimes leading to violence. Paladins of Glot are unheard of. Perhaps extremely well paid mercenaries. Glot is depicted as a morbidly obese male with stumps for legs, his massive body completely blocking the way to the afterlife. Through political maneuvering and shaking of the right hands and the greasing of the palms of others, Glot managed to gain influence over the fate of every soul in Pellios. One day, every single creature must stand and be judged by Glot. He decides where you end up in your final resting place (plane?) Adventurers typically meet with Barristers to exchange currencies and buy exotic items or services. Locals use barristers to draw up binding contracts of services.

House of Liet
Lliadru - god of Nature, the Green Man. Once an elf, Lliadru was the first mortal to ascend to divinity. worshipped by many elves and half elves, but there are some humans who also worship him. His priests are actually Druids. Paladins use the Arcane Archer prestige class.

House of Bakhsmet
Bailor - god of Travelers. Once mortal as well, his stories of travelling the known world are legendary. Every sea tale, monster tale or dragon tale of the most epic caliber are about Bailor of Bakhsmet. He is the Beowulf and Hercules of Pellios. Extremely popular deity. Priests are called Wardens and paladins are the Horizon Walker Prestige Class.

Bane - not actually a god, but a philosophy, a way of life. Bane's philosophy is something combining socratic thought with zen practices. His followers treat him lsimilar to Buddha. Martial arts is taught as a method of meditation and clarity of the spirit. The overarching theme is self reliance. Priests of Bane are the Monk basic class.
Paladins are higher level Monks. Bane was a half brother of Bailor. Deceased.

Akmed - the Saint of the Sea. Half brother to Bailor and captain of the vessel that took Bailor across the sea. Just about all sea people follow Akmed. Bloody pirates. Priests are basically priests of Bailor with more specialization. They are always on board a ship, and the crew call them Bos'n. (pronounced "B-oh-sin")

Individual Deities
Ore - God of the Earth, the Keeper of the Rift. Ore is a dwarven deitiy primarily but is not only worshipped by dwarves. He is the god of Duty, Honor and the responsibility of capability. It is Ore who sits in the center of Pellios and holds the mana rift closed. Without him, life would be impossible to sustain. Whenever there is an Earthquake, Ore is adjusting his grip and mana trickles out, pushing the earth out a little.

Mastik - God Of War. Patron deity of people who want to spend their lives killing. He is the bringer of the Sword and the Flame. Used to be mortal. Called Army Killer. Called God Slayer. Took on the mantle of the dead god of War while still mortal. Confiscated a plane of Hell as evidence. Carved his way into the Celestial Court, never ascended. Brings balance through equalization. Rules over the knightly order Knights Inquisitor.

Saye - God of the Dead. This is the man in the boat who takes you down the river Styx and deposits you on the Shore of Vallili where you stand in line awaiting Glot's judgement. If you were not given the proper funeral rites(established by your local customs), especially the burned incense and the coins(the only two things that are the same everywhere), Saye cannot locate your spirit and you wander the foggy banks of the Styx until you either fade away or follow the river up and out into Pellios where you become a spectre. They say that inherently good people shine with an inner light that allows Saye to find them no matter where they are. Saye has few priests and no paladins.

Maratul - the god of Lies. Presides over the breaking of the oath and the passing over from the honest to the dishonest. Whenever a lie is told, a small prayer is said to Maratul. In recent years, more and more members of thieves' guilds have become followers of Maratul. Perhaps as much as 20%.

Irithnil - the god of Neutrality, the Infinite Coils. Irithnil is not from the realm of Pellios. It is something different. It exists "in the spaces between the planes". It offers safety within ambivalence, Protection within the coils at the price of one day being caught within them. The Gospel of Irithnil says that death within the coils is the ultimate fate of the universe and is unavoidable. Serving Irithnil guarantees that existence will be more endless than the rest, being allowed to exist inside the god in the afterlife. A god for fence-sitters and goths.

Kharsis - the scion of Darkness. God of Hatred and Fear. His realm exists for the sole purpose of blotting out the light of the world. He is hatred and oppression made substance. Borne of a vile union between a heretical drow priestess (one of the first drow) and a terrible fiendish black dragon, Kharsis' birth was foretold. His daughter is the Hag Countess, the mother of night hags. Priests are called Scions and typically shoot for True Necromancer and paladins are usually things like Death Knights, corrupt paladins of other deities.

Herzoule - The Flayed One, god of Chaos. This is the living incarnate of Chaos. In other game worlds, one might call him the plane Limbo. On Pellios, Limbo is conscious and desires to destroy everything. According to Herzoule's gospel, destruction is inevitable and encouraged by the universe, therefore it is not a bad thing to destroy. Priests of Herzoule are called Defilers and are extremely rare.

Zydar - the Storm Bringer. God of Weather. A vengeful and angry god depicted wearing blackened platemail. His Sword, Atreva, fires lightning at his foes. He is the reason that the Great Desert is a desert. He is also the reason why the rivers flood every other year. Angering him can have swift consequences.

Trush-Nicinct - god of Treants. Venerated by unicorns and other nature spirits.
Yeenoghu - The Dog God. Presides over the inevitable corruption of civilization into ruin. Patron God of Kobolds and Yuan-ti.
Gruumsh - God of Orcs and orcish things.
Kalpetit - The Warlord. God of Hobgoblins.
Lolth - Demon Queen of Spiders.
Demogorgon - Lord of the Abyss.

This is how it works for you.

Your specialist school choice (for you is transmutation) receives a +1 DC. This stacks with things like Spell Focus: Transmutation and Greater Spell Focus: Transmutation. So for, say, a Slow spell cast by you, the victim has to make a save at DC 14+ your int bonus, instead of 13+.

There are two schools that are forbidden to you... these represent what you gave up to focus on transmutation. I think you picked them already, but I'll have to look.

Every time you gain a level that opens you up to a new spell level, you get one extra preparation of a spell of your chosen school. So you get the normal spells per day out of the players guide, plus one extra per day per level you can cast, but only of your chosen school. Plus when leveling, any wizard gets to pick two spells out of the book to take of any level they can cast, but you get one extra of the school you specialize.

I hope that makes sense.

I am currently without computer, but I have several ways to access the internet near my home. I might be on every day, or every three days, But I won't go more than a week without posting.

The forest I mention surrounds Sylestria in the southeast, upriver from Eastern Kingdom. It is called the Wood Elf Walley, and it is home to the wood elves. The place Anna refers to is a place called Redleaf Burrows, a shire in the northern area of the Wood Elf Valley. Anna may know more details. On the map, the dark green area on the bottom right is this valley.

The king watched her rush out of the room and then returned to the group, a wry smile on his face. He lifts his cup and toasts.

"Don't worry lads, she won't get far. Unless she can fly." He laughs at his joke and then his smile fades slightly. He finishes his drink before Anna returns, but is not fast enough to reply before she does. Refilling his cup, he listens while she answers for him.

"We have gathered here to protect that in which we hold dear. Apparently the king has looked at the skills that we each process and has decided that we are a good match to compete with this monsterous necromancer. Now what he see's in all four of us little own the other two that are not currently in our company I don't know. I don't see what my brothers couldn't do that I can do. Yes I have seen this army in action but other then a few tangle spells and the help of my owl friend here, I was just there to help mend the wounded. As you have stated Doogan this army is well equiped and it will require some more training to handle the king of the scourge."

King Sarrius holds up an index finger.

"Actually, that is not entirely true. I did not look into your skills. A very powerful and very influential noble from Duncan has convinced the Royal Court, which happens to also be the largest country in the realms, that you five... er, seven... " he takes a deep drink, "...are somehow linked to the future of good civilized peoples everywhere. He has convinced the court... my wife... that you are some kind of prophesied arrivals. The very earth shakes in the presence of you very folk. Or something. To be honest, I've taken your measure, and I think that Searo and Solomon will be disappointed. How ever that may be, your compatriot, Anna of the tender face and the stinging rebuke, tells me something in passing that my own strategists and best advisors would never predict. So What's happening is the Illumorous is under way. At first we were merely going to escort you to Solomon, but..."

He looks meaningfully at Anastianna.

"... the Illumorous can be in Sylestria in only six days."

((The distance between Sylestria and the Eastern Kingdom is about 870 miles, half of which is very dense virgin forest.))

Subject: Sarrius the Pirate King

((I am trying to put these into a meaningful order just for continuity purposes... I am by no means attempting to minimize anyone by changing the order of the posts..))

Doogan speaks up first. “Your highness, defeating the evil of Nixmir is indeed a, how did you put it, 'Glorious war.' The world would be well served to see that evil removed from it. I am honored that you and this Searo DeCorwyn believe that I, and through me, Sanctuary, can be of aid in this battle. But surely you must realize that we are left with many questions. You seem to be waiting for a reply, but I don't even know what I am replying to at this point other than the 'honor' of my selection. I was told I was coming here as a diplomat, which also seemed like an odd job for me. Still, it seems to be less surprising than the situation I find myself in now.”

Sarrius smiles at Doogan and says "the honor, as I understand it, is more on the rest of the world than yourself. Searo would not reveal too much to me, but what he did say was that you seven are like the next Deadly Six ((int rolls or knowledge rolls for that))." He makes to say more but the Wood Elf can contain herself no longer.

"Please good bard for those of us that don't know of this monstrous necromancer please sing us a bard's tale of his rampage?" Anna asks the bard. Then she turns to the king "My lord, if I could please have a word with you in private."

Sonny catches the moment with a joke. "So my lord, which part do i play in this theatric story i am guessing it is my ability with a Sword that impresses you most?" Sonny says this with a cheeky smile on his face letting the king know he was joking.

Sarrius looks at Anna with a graceful smile and moves to get up. As Anna passes behind him (and with care to ensure she does not see him do it) he glances at the gnome Doogan and makes a wolfish grin. He says something under his breath and rises, following her into his chambers.

"My lord as I'm sure you already know Nixmir has conquered some of our land as well and scorged it with his unholy creatures. My grove was attacked a month ago but we managed to fight him and his undead army back to the nearby groves. With your permission I would like for this party to take over the land that was taken from us."
Anna waits for her words to sink in. Sarrius steps up to her close and whispers "I had no knowledge of this. You are certain that these attacks in your groves are due to Vardon Nixmir? Not to disagree with you, my lady," he touches your arm and smiles in an extremely suggestive way ((Charisma roll: 24))

He lets you finish. "My lord you know that I and my brothers are very much against the unholiness of this vile creatures. I will fight for you till the death to scourge the world of these vile creatures."

He replies. "I know you are, my dear. As are we, committed to the end of the threat. Of a permanent alliance between our two peoples... our three peoples." ((A little half-elf humor there-heh. I do not want to go into any great R rated detail here, but it is clear that King Sarrius is trying to put the moves on you, Anna.))

Meanwhile...

"As for the song here we go!" (Through the fire and flames, Dragonforce)

He chooses to sing about the dark times ahead. Almost serendipitous, he strikes a chord with your future selves that can only be known through the hindsight of someone who's reading the book a second time. He sings of sacrifice and prevailing over darkness.

"
On a cold winter morning in a time before the light
In flames of death's eternal reign we ride towards the fight
When the darkness has fallen down and the times are tough alright
The sound of evil laughter falls around the world tonight

Fighting hard fighting on for the steel through the wastelands evermore
The scattered souls will feel the hell bodies wasted on the shores
On the blackest plains in hell's domain we watch them as they go
In fire and pain now once again we know

So now we fly ever free, we're free before the thunderstorm
On towards the wilderness our quest carries on
Far beyond the sundown, far beyond the moonlight
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls

So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on ...
"

"Nothing is expected of you save what you are going to do... and believe me... I know what you are going to do."

He sets his drink down and stares meaningfully at the two of you.

"There are beings in this realm... beings with the power to see the fate of the world as you would seeing your own familiar mother's face. These beings, while not easy to find, and much more difficult to sway, can tell one anything about the future. I visited one of these beings, and to tell you the truth, I must not reveal much about what the future holds, only that you... Ansgar, and you, Anyroth, play such an important role that I needed to meet with you first, before the prescribed time for the rest of your team to meet. However, there are forces at work who seek to detain us further, no matter their good intentions. What you are going to do is this... you are going to unite the world against the most terrible threat to us all... but neither can I tell you what that is can I tell you how. All I know is that if I reveal all I know now, I will directly endanger the outcome. So for now, eat your fill, and when you finish, I will take you to where you must go to stop the gravest danger to this task ahead first."

He lifts his cup and formally salutes the two of you. Then he finishes the whole drink in two swallows.

"Indeed, my good northlander. Let us not wait." He fills his plate mainly with vegetables and fruit, but emphatically suggests the various meats, carefully describing where they were procured, how they were prepared, and what spices went into their cooking. Very typical halfling dinner conversation.

After a decent amount of time eating, he begins to speak more seriously.

"As you are probably aware, I am a user of magic. The motion of pelz calls to me in a way that is difficult to resist. It comes naturally to me. I was bown in the citystate of Duncan, and I belong... or should I say, belonged, to a very prominent family." His eyes betray great sadness for a split second.

"When Duncan fell, I fled to Griffon's Mane and joined the Devlinsgrimm military. Shortly afterwards, I was very fortunate to be employed directly by the Lord Protector, king Solomon Vasgar. His quest... a personal one from my understanding, is to rid the world of the threat of the undead. The most immediate threat in this effort is the city of Nixmir, ruled by a very powerful Necromancer of the same name."

((Intelligence roll for info on Nixmir.))

"King Solomon's goals very closely mirror my own. My own family was victimized during this war, and believe me when I say, they will be avenged."

He pauses to reflect a moment, then continues.

"the King and I have a plan. This plan has been gone over and over several dozen times. This plan calls for something that you have in abundance. I will not say more yet, but I will tell you that you are not the only ones who have been chosen. There are seven of you in all. It is I who searched you out, found you, vetted you and overcame the cultural barriers to get you here. If you feel that you were chosen because your family wanted to get rid of you, I can only say that the opposite is most definitely true. The seven of you represent very powerful forces of your individual homelands. Without your experience to come, we will not be able to defeat Vardon Nixmir and rid the world of the threat of the Black."

((Intelligence roll again for info on the Black))

He pauses, waiting for the inevitable questions.

((in case you are wondering, this is extremely unlikely behavior for a king))

He loads his plate with food as his eyes take in the spread as if he's already gorging himself. He fills his cup with wine and makes small talk, attempting to hold off on any business talk until everyone's had a chance to at least start eating.

"I can tell that some of you are a little unsure of the situation here. I know you did not travel all this way just to eat."

At about that moment, Sonny Lightheart is ushered in and presented. The king rises at his entrance and claps his hands happily.

((Intelligence roll to have heard of Sonny... he's somewhat a celebrity.))

"Welcome, master musician. Please join us." He makes the rounds of introduction to everyone, and bids you to join.

"Now as I was saying. There is a halfling named Searo DeCorwyn. He is a very powerful sorcerer in the employ of my western counterpart, king Solomon Vasgar. King Solomon is neck deep in one of the most glorious wars in the history of the realms... that noble cause of lifting the curse of the undead from one of its oldest bastions. That bastion, Nixmir City, is under the control of an ancient Necromancer... I'm sure you all know this story. In fact, the city, state, and country is named after him. Vardon Nixmir."

((Also an intelligence roll to know about Nixmir. the higher the roll, the more info you will get back. Bards may use Legend Lore.))

"Now, Searo, who is not only a great guy, but wise beyond his years, has hand picked each of you, and from what I understand, two more just like you. You represent," he pauses to quaff some wine, "you represent all of the different cultures who stand to lose something if Nixmir is not removed from power."

He pauses again, not just for wine, but to let his words sink in.

Subject: Doogan, Kilton, and Anna

the one called Squiggy chuckles at Anna.

"Absolutely, my Lady Nailo. This is where his royal majesty is." The other gnomes look at each other and giggle as if sharing an inside joke.

"Please, this way. Feel free to come aboard."
They lead you through the tower and onto the gangplank.
((Anyone afraid of heights? Its about twenty feet to the icy water below.)) as you step up to the side of the strange airship, you note that the skin of the craft appears to be covered in thick blue and red scaled plating, stretched over the hull of the ship, which appears to be made of nothing more than bundles of copper and brass pipes. The deck of the ship is brass tubing and the conch-shaped top curve seems to be retractable, and is half-open. The gnomes each in turn salute the flag of Eastern Kingdom and then Sarrius' personal standard below it.

They lead you inside the ship, which appears again to be made of nothing but bundles of pipes. Gnomes with various tattoos and in various stages of uniform violation hurry about their business. Some are obviously performing maintenance, and some apear to be doing nothing important. Presently you come to a round door made for someone about five feet high. Some of you may have to duck. They bang on the door and you hear a sharp voice shout "enter."

The room appears to be some kind of war room, with a larg brass table and several matching chairs. The table is set for four, and is covered in all manner of food. Seafood brought directly from the river (upriver, anna you recognize the great majority of the riverfish), hot potato and rice cakes, sausages, spare ribs and necessary ribs, lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, and tubers. Of special interest are the oranges and pineapples, broccoli and spinach. Squashes the size of your head. Peanuts and pecans just picked and shelled. Succulent cuts of veal and pork along with creams and sauces and spices. Wine, mead, beer, water and some other cold and hot beverages. At the side of the table stands a Grey Elf dressed in the finest embroidered wool. His features are fair, but his skin betrays a lifetime of hard work in the sun. His tricorn hat is cocked to one side, his double breasted captain's coat is unbuttoned and his silken ruffled shirt spills out. He carries a scimitar at his hip and wears tiny wireframed blue colored glasses. His hair is woven into fantastic dreadlocks and are perfectly manicured. All in all, if you took a deck hand and made him a king, this is what you would get.

Squiggy blows a strange high pitched whistle and announces you in a loud voice.

"I present his royal majesty, King of Brocitania, Guardian of the Eastern Kingdom, Conquerer of Devlinsgrimm, Grand Admiral of the Mighty Myrdell and High Lord of the Very Sky We Sit Under in Awe Before the Very Gods, Sarrius Brocitas. Your Majesty, I present to you Anastianna Nailo of our allies the Wood Elves of Sylestria. I present to you Doogan Ferndrum Perrybuck Bobcat Otto Creespire Wilikaloontatakochtitlanroopatototootloon of the Sanctuary of Agoria, he says you can call him Doogan. I present to you Kilton Oprium, Wizard of the Blue Tower and personal reccomendation of Archmage Irtrill, Administrator of the Tower of Transmuters. Your majesty, Lightheart is running a little late, but my watchers tell me they have spotted his boat approaching the island, so I expect him to be here soon."

The king listens patiently to the gnome rattle off the formalities, showing special interest when he mentions wood elves, Sanctuary and the blue tower.
"Yes yes yes, Squiggy. thank you very much. That is all, make preparations." He turns and addresses the three of you.
"Please, sit. Eat with me. I trust you are famished from your long journeys. You are in good hands here. Take a load off." He smiles warmly and slides a chair out for Anna. "My lady, I am as always in awe of the presence of the elves of the wood. I hazard that the beauty of the wood elves far outstrips that of the children of Sylvus."

((His charm is impossible to deny, no matter how bad I am at reproducing it.))

Subject: Ansgar and Anyroth: Searo's Tower

The servant is somewhat surprised about the refusal of the hot tea, but does not appear to be taken aback. He merely shrugs and says "as you wish, masters. Follow me."

The two of you follow the servant up a flight of stairs that seems to go on forever. Right about the time you begin to think to yourself that there is no way that this tower looked this tall from the outside, you are taken to a large wooden door with a strange mark upon it. The mark looks like a circle with curved marks within it, creating an odd infinite loop within an infinite loop. Gazing at it gives one the impression that you are looking into two mirrors facing each other. The servant knocks softly and then opens the door.

The room is far larger than you expected. The first thing you notice is the rush of warm air from the inviting fire crackling away in the fireplace. The next thing you notice is the smell of freshly cooked food. There is a table int he center of the room, a very large rectangle cut from very expensive wood and carved by elves. The table is set for three and there is food of every kind... roast chickens, a half pig that seems to have been spit barbecued, two large sides of ribs from a creature that may not be a cow, but smells absolutely delicious. Large slabs of flaky meats that you know is some kind of seafood, but from such large fish you've never seen before, including some kind of tentacled delicacy that resembles squid. Fresh strawberries (almost prohibitively expensive in Charndale, Anyroth, and only a myth in the Old Man, Ansgar), mountain yams, potatoes, greens, jellies, and four different kinds of pies. Mead, wine, orange juice (you've never seen this, Ansgar) and water stand in condensation covered pitchers. There is another set of pitchers with hot coffee, hot tea and some other undescribed hot beverages.

On the other side of the table, a rather expensively dressed halfling stands in the chair. He smiles with a fifty gold piece award winning smile. His tousled hair is well groomed and he is extremely clean. Perhaps surprisingly for a halfling, he is fit and trim. His robes are dark bronze with gold trim. Everything in this room speaks of his personal wealth and nobility.

"Welcome, friends. I am Searo DeCorwyn, of the DeCorwyn family of Duncan. You have no idea how pleased I am to finally meet you. Please! This wonderful meal was prepared with painstaking effort on the part of my servant here, Tseng. He almost worked himself to death laboring over this banquet. We want you both to feel welcome here as if you were home. Oh yes! I almost forgot, you two do not know each other. I hope that while we eat, we may be able to fix that."

He gestures with a flourish at Anyroth. "Anyroth Swiftblade of Charndale. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Ansgar, of the Northland Kingdoms. Ansgar, it gives me honor to introduce Anyroth. The two of you have more in common than you know, but soon... soon. First we eat."
