I have just found a PDF of ALL 26 2ed. AD & D books!

Here's the link if you want 'em:

I have found a PDF version of the 2ed Players Handbook online. So all is well.

I just realized that the reprints I have are shiny and cool...but alas, these are reprints of FIRST edition AD&D, not 2nd. Will I be able to run with these? Honestly I don't remember how drastically 2nd ed. changed from 1st.

Reading through the Players Handbook I got is like going back in time. They reprinted it with all the original artwork, fonts, tables, charts, everything is just like the original books.

I got the PH, the DM Handbook and the Monster Manual as a wedding present from a friend that owns a comic shop. All are reprinted just like the original. Very cool stuff.

Just relating my nostalgic distraction as I read over the PH-hehe.

Sounds good. And having just acquired a spiffy limited-edition reprint set of the 2ED main books, I have the resources again-hehe. I'd be interested if you get enough bites to launch. I'd probably go for the big brawny fighter type.

Teller and I are about done with Jesse and Serene's big counseling session. I believe Teller will be posting it when we're done. Hope to see some more posts up soon!

Catt, sent you a PM last week. Would like to know your thoughts on it.

Teller and I are building what I think is a really good RP session between Jesse and Serene by PM. Teller will post it when we're done. Hope this might kickstart some other folks to get some posts up. Let's get this train rollin' again!

Okie-day, got a post up. Nothing dramatic, just paving the way for Jesse's session with Serene. Teller, after you've given it a look-see, PM me and we can start the building the session by PM and post when it's all done. Realistically, I know his troubles couldn't be cured in one session, but ideally I'd like for us to hit some kind of initial breakthrough that will at least allow him to get back to work, and we can do further sessions down the road.

T_catt, hope your writer's block is soon over so we can get some more of your storytelling awesomeness to post to.

Subject: Jesse prepares

Stardate 2368.07.08
USS Discovery, Holodeck-1030

Jesse emerged from the Holodeck feeling invigorated and quite a bit more centered, for the moment anyway. Riding a scenic trail on a good horse, even if the trail and the horse were replicated solid holograms, was always a balm to his spirit and it took him back to a better and simpler time in his life, when the day’s only requirements were keeping his horse friendly and on task, and making sure the cattle didn’t wander off into cattle peril. His thoughts had returned home, and he had found peace there, as it should be. The old ways are the best ways, he thought to himself. I reckon there’s worse ways to spend your days.

Jesse let his thoughts wander as benignly as possible as he walked back to his quarters, drawing the occasional odd look from passing crewmembers in his traditional Western ranch attire. As he entered and the doors hissed closed behind him, he removed his trail gear, tossed it aside, and had an invigorating shower, splurging with some real water this time. Since the trail dust that was ever-present on a cowboy was holographic in this case and had disappeared when he ended the holoprogram, he didn’t really need it, but the hot water seemed to rinse away even more tension and was welcome for that reason if for no other.

Jesse’s appointment with Serene was at 1100, so he cut the shower short and donned a fresh uniform. That done, he tapped his combadge and checked in with his replacement on the bridge. The crewman reported that all was well, filling Jesse in on the highlights of what had gone on with Ops during the morning, which was blessed little. There had been a few lingering matters that were mainly a result of the sim, but the competent and able team under Jesse’s command had taken excellent care of them. He began mentally compiling some highlights of his departmental report as he signed off with the bridge.

As his thoughts turned once more to his imminent sit-down with Serene, Jesse heaved a mental sigh. He absolutely hated having to dig into the pain of his past, but he had enough clarity at the moment to realize that this was necessary if he was to be able to go on. This has been eatin’ at my brains an’ guts fer too damn long, now, he thought. It’s time to ride this bull down, tie him up, and get ‘im to the corral.

With a final glance at a picture of his loving family, Jesse left his quarters, turned toward Serene’s office, and walked, with hope that Serene could help exorcise the demons. And with a sudden grin, he realized something unexpected: for the first time in a long time…he had hope.

(OOC: Teller, PM me when you’ve read this and we can start building our post-by-post exchange. My goal is to hash out the very worst of Jesse’s troubles in this session so that he can get back to work and I can work on regular plot posting, and we can do some further interludes and sessions as things progress.)

SilentOne, if you want to run the counselor, I'm perfectly fine with that. But if you don't want a heavier load, rp-wise, then t_catt, a suggestion: if you want it to have been business as usual for a while on the ship, i.e. having the same amount of time passed in the game as it has here in rl since we last posted, I can wrap up Jesse's counselor-related issues in my next post; basically just flesh out that the counselor helped him, all is well, and toodle-pip onward.

But as I said, if game time is going to pick up where we left off, I'm fine with you playing the counselor if you want to, SilentOne.

Stardate 2368.07.08
USS Discovery, Observation Lounge – 0755

Jesse’s mind still felt a fragile mess as he entered the Observation Lounge. But he did feel a bit better after having a short nap, a bracing shower and a fresh uniform. He noticed Serene looking at him as he came in, and he gave her a shaky grin, a small nod, and briefly waggled his newly-healed hand at her. Even though others didn’t know of the inner Hell he had faced during the sim, Jesse still felt self-conscious as he filed past his fellow department heads and took his seat.

Captain Blair led the meeting in his usual brisk, no-nonsense fashion. Jesse admired the style of Blair’s leadership and as Blair spoke about his reasons for the sim and his frank assessment of everyone’s performance, Jesse further resolved to try and exorcise the demons, adding to his list of reasons that he would honor Blair’s confidence in bringing him aboard the Discovery. Even in his brief service with Blair, Jesse already knew the man was eminently worthy of the best that Jesse could give, and to do anything less than fully commit to emotional and psychological wholeness and top performance would be a disservice to the man, the ship and the fine crew with whom he served.

When Blair demanded departmental reports by the end of the day, Jesse hoped that his pending session with Serene would afford him enough clarity to frankly assess the Ops team’s performance. As his mind drifted back to the sim, the memory of seeing the corpses in space and the horror that he felt threatened to overwhelm him again. Anyone looking at him would have seen his face go pale and a shudder run through him, but he mentally braved the storm and tried to see past the demons to what occurred during the sim in a frank and analytical matter. The fact that it was almost impossible to do that reinforced the notion that he had to get help, and soon. He resolved to do what needed to be done to get Blair his report, but he knew that after that was done he would probably need to request some down time to get himself straightened out, at least for the short term.

When Blair dismissed the meeting, Jesse rose from his seat and stepped into the corridor. He didn’t trust himself to man the Ops console right now, so he tapped his combadge and made arrangements to have a replacement cover today’s Alpha shift.

(OOC: If anything major is to happen during Alpha shift today, t_catt, just PM me and I will flesh out exactly who is manning Ops today. Otherwise, Crewman Generic Q. Anonymouse it is-heh.)

With that done, Jesse contacted Serene’s office to make an appointment for that day, and then went to find an open Holodeck . A good horse under open sky on a dusty trail would hopefully keep him ahead of the demons for a little longer.
