Topic: Star Trek: Veiled Chimera Q&A
Subject: Thorson post up

On a related note to that, I'm in the Starfleet Marines in Starfleet International, a Trek fan organization, and my marine unit is a Mecha unit. For one of my Marine Academy courses, I did a whole dang study on the feasibility of using replicator technology to store and deploy combat Mechs from a starship.

Anyhoo, got a first post up for Thorson. Left it short and open-ended for maybe a lil' RP session for Eric's return to the ship.

Stardate 2365.02.19

Starbase 118, Guest Quarters  – 1150 hours

((OOC: Posting a little ahead, time-wise, of the current postings, so Drake, Tochi, whoever they might wrangle, etc., can pursue current interactions, then perhaps meet Eric in transporter room when he arrives. Thought it’d be fun to RP a little reunion of sorts there.))

Lieutenant Commander Eric Thorson took one last look around his temporary billet aboard Starbase 118, making sure he hadn’t forgotten anything. He stepped over to the coffee table and grabbed his PADD, currently displaying various engineering articles and reports he’d been reading over, as well as the last few days’ departmental reports from Engineering on the Peregrine, put it to sleep and slid it into a side pocket of his duffel. For the hundredth time today, he looked down at his cybernetic arm and flexed it, eyeing it critically as he turned it over and examined it.

The doctors here on the starbase had performed every test and procedure they knew to perform to insure that his cybernetics were purged of…whatever had happened to them. Eric could only remember brief flashes of that horrible episode in Engineering, almost killing poor Toporov, destroying equipment, becoming a mindless beast in frenzy. But he remembered all too well the feeling of utter helplessness and lack of control, the feeling of being a screaming, silent prisoner as he thrashed about. And despite what the doctors had tried to tell him, even the cybernetics specialists who had travelled all the way from Starfleet Medical on Earth, he had felt some other…presence…in control at the time. It wasn’t some random malfunction or misfiring of his synaptic control interfaces; Eric felt, to the core of his being, that what it seemed like… was a mind, a sentient mind, awakened within a shell that was unknown and unfamiliar to it, and that it…panicked. It screamed out in terror with every atom of its being, every impulse it possessed. That terror and panic manifested itself in the seizure that crushed Eric in its grip. This was what Eric felt, and what he believed to be true, but every cyberneticist, doctor and counselor he had spoken with assured him that this was simply his mind’s attempt to interpret the brief contact with the alien power surge back on the Peregrine. They swore with complete certainty that nothing had entered or infected him in the incident. But iIf Eric had learned nothing else in his time in Starfleet, especially serving on ships like the Stargazer under Jean-Luc Picard, he had learned that nothing was certain. But he also still held to the Norse beliefs of his ancestors, and he knew in his heart that if there were more to his encounter with the alien lifeform than was now known, then it was the will of the gods, and the gods made their reasons known in their own time. The answers would come.

Focusing once again on the present, Eric lifted his duffel and walked to the door. “Computer, lights off.” The room’s lights winked out as Eric stepped out into the corridor and made his way to the transporter room, the door to his former quarters hissing shut behind him.

((OOC: Pausing here in case Drake or Tochi or whomever wanted to meet Eric in the transporter room upon his return. If any takers, just post your arrival to the transporter room and then I will continue, if that works for all.))

I am with you in spirit; alas, this is the last day of a four-day stretch of twelve-hour shifts and my brain is angry-fried and wandering the wastes. When I get home tonight, I am going comatose for a while, relaxing a bit tomorrow, then getting a post together for Thorson, maybe a collab or back-n-forth over my two days off. Working Wednesday and Thursday, then off Friday through Sunday, so I should get some good posting in.

Meanwhile, Thorson got his medical release and orders to report to the Peregrine tomorrow. Thank you, Odin! He's spending his last day aboard the Starbase in happy contemplation of getting back out there with Commander Drake, Tochi, and companions old and new. He's kept up with the news, so he knows they've had a rough week. It'll be good to be back with them aboard the Peregrine. It'll be good to be home.

Sheesh, at this rate I'm gonna be all day Monday just reading to catch up. Good to see a game so active!

Thorson continues his last couple of days of convalescence on the Starbase. Today he got a massage from a member of a race with 27 fingers on each hand. Took the kinks right out. Felt like a chorus line of fat-legged spiders. We shall call this race the ...Lotsafingarns.

He still misses his mead. He figures Drake, Tochi or someone else has probably raided the decoy stash by now.

The one with the laxative in it. A particularly...robust one from Earth...for horses, I believe.

He chuckles to himself, and turns in for the night.

Looking good so far!

Still gonna be Monday before I have the time off to post, but Thorson will be along directly; he's a bit slow, still recovering and all. I'm sure his bits are still tender and he wants to sleep in another morning or two in his comfy Starbase accommodations.

He won't be too long though. All of his mead is still aboard the Peregrine.

By Odin's pants, let's get this cranked up. Chief Engineer Eric Thorson is dusted off and online. Fair warning, though, I have to work the next four days in a row, twelve-hour shifts, so I won't be able to get into game mode until Monday. After that, I shouldn't have to work more than three days at a stretch, which is the longest I should have to go without posting. Looking forward to getting back in the saddle!

I like the idea a lot. I'm all in on lots of Trek games. I will probably run another freeform game at some point, after I get my "space legs" back playing in this next one.

Hi Charra! Welcome to the Inn. Just peruse the forums as you please, check out the recruitment threads if you're looking for a game to play in, or you can feel free to make a post in that section, let folks know that you are looking for a game. Most game systems are represented here, and we even do freeform gaming, no system required, just pure storytelling. So check things out, and I look forward to seeing you around the Inn!

Hey there! I'll be one of the folks participating in the Trek game. Nice to meet you! t_catt can give you details once he sees this, but as of my last hearing I believe we're looking for a Tactical officer, responsible for operating the ship's offensive and defensive systems: phasers, torpedoes, shields, etc.

I'll be playing the ship's chief engineer, Lieutenant Commander Eric Thorson. I look forward to gaming with you! Catt's Trek games are always a lot of fun. Glad you'll be joining us, and welcome back to the Inn!

Howdy all. Just wanted to say, I've read up on the game thread's progress since I drifted away from the Inn, and it is amazing! Wonderful storytelling and RP. I'm ready to wake Thorson back up from his Allsleep to continue our adventures in the future outing, hehe, and I look forward to seeing anyone else who will be aboard. K, bye.

Having been a member for around ten years meself, I can look back and fondly remember a typical session at the Inn consisting of posting in 3-4 games I was active in, then making the rounds of maybe a dozen of the little word/short/fun games in the round that stayed jumping every day, then perusing the side threads to discuss various shows/fandoms and such. I met my best real-life friend here in trusty Eol, I made a slew of good online friends, admittedly lost one or two along the way due to falling out, and to the rigors of life itself (RIP YeOlde, my friend). Overall, the Inn has been a great place to me. I look forward to trying to help breathe some new life back into it. Now, I have received my facelick and wiped down, forth to the Froth 'n Slosh!

Sounds great to me, sir. I wouldn't mind recalibrating the quantum capacitance whoozit and energizing the flux resonance thingahotchums to see if we can achieve wafflewarp speed and see what's out there. Again.

Greetings, Innmates. I, like many of you, have been adventuring abroad for some time now, drifting further and further from the comfort and camaraderie of the old Red Dragon, whose cozy chambers and welcoming tavern were my companions for many years. And then, like a trumpet from the heavens and the halls of old, I, again like many of you, heard the call of the mighty deity E-MAIL OUTTA NOWHERE, harkening me back unto these familiar halls.

I have missed my friends here, and given the excellent work that's been done in maintaining the Inn over the years, and what I've read is to come, I feel it only right and proper that I enjoy its hospitality more often. To that end, I shall be wandering the nooks and crannies and crooks and nannies of the Inn, see who's doing what, see if I might settle into a comfy spot for a game somewhere. I look forward to sharing a table and a clean(ish) mug of good old Froth 'n Slosh with you.

I'm a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, good old D & D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Battletech, Mechwarrior, and the like. I've enjoyed every single game I've played in here, and I'd like to think I can keep my character from being a boring read.

So, until we have the chance to share a gaming table, a spot at the bar, a spot under the table and/or the bar, depending on the current quality of the Froth 'n Slosh, I salute you, Innmates all!

Yes, Eol, my towel is in hand and ready. You may activate the facelick.

Dunkelzahn, out.

Hey again all. Well, as seems to happen every dang time I get ready to join a game or try to have any other commitment, real life has reared its ugly head. I don't want to hold any of the game up, so just carry on.

Adulting sucks. That is all. I'll still lurk and enjoy everyone's writing when I can.

I hate to just show up and delay, but as of today my work schedule has changed a bit. I will be working nine-hour shifts Monday through Thursday and a four-hour shift on Fridays. So, I am gonna have to shift extracurricular activities to mainly Friday through Sunday, so it'll probably be Friday evening before I can get anything up. I need to read up on the Q & A and get up to speed as well.

Many humble apologies, but I will join the voyage Friday.

Hey all. I'm trying to be somewhat regularly lurking 'round the Inn again, and Eol, Licker of Faces, said there might be an opening. Since the recruiting thread's closed, I figured I'd just briefly drop in here and see if that's the case. If so, feel free to drop me a PM, Brom, and let me know what you're looking for. Maybe I can be of some service whilst trying to keep meself well out of Davy Jones's locker.

Hiya Innmates, old and new!

As a brief intro, I am a longtime denizen of the Inn, probably a good ten years now or more at least. I think it's a great place, always have, and I did in fact make my best friend here, good ol' Eol hisself. My absences, however, have tended to become much longer than I'd like.

I would like to remedy that. So, I'm gonna try to be present and somewhat regular, and will be looking for a game or two to join, if you'll have me, and possibly running something at some point.

Take a look at some of the games I've played in if the threads are still around if you'd like to see a bit of my writing and gaming style. I'm a big fan of D & D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Pathfinder, the old-school West End Star Wars RPG, pretty much anything that will insure a good time when gaming together.

So, I'mma grab this fresh(?) froth 'n slosh, chew it back, and grab a comfy chair over by the hearth. Feel free to drop by and say howdy.

Think I'll read along and keep up. Things seem to be rolling along well, so I shan't try to inject a new character up in the mix. Maybe Thorson will stick his head up when Season 2 rolls around. Keep up the good work, all. Later.

I kinda prefer creating my own characters anyway. If we can't find a spot for a new character somewhere I may take a shot at filling one, but I have tossed an idea or two at catt, and we shall see what develops.
