Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine, Engineering - 0830

Eric took a moment to thank Odin that he had been able to get a decent night's sleep. This day was barely underway, and it was already traveling at transwarp velocity.

After grabbing breakfast and the obligatory cup of strong coffee, Eric had arrived in Engineering and made the usual checks. He'd apologized again to Toporov for causing him pain and distress yesterday, although he couldn't help chuckling about it. "From now on, whenever I call for you, just give an appropriate THUD from wherever you're at and we're good," he joked. "Wery funny," Toporov grunted. "I vill say now that I heve no idea vhat heppened vhen your sonic shower coats you in fluorescent green testing dye at some point in the near future." Eric gave the big Russian a hairy eyeball for a long moment. "Touchè," he granted as he ambled away. He got a good chuckle from that mental picture, at any rate.

As Eric paused at his desk to check his communications, he was shocked when he opened the first message. Half the department heads were just gone. Just like that! What the hell happened?! he wondered. Regular changeouts of personnel, sure, but this? Something wasn't right here. A potentially hazardous escort mission with brand-new department heads, no prep time, no warning? It was damned peculiar, and Eric decided he would try to have a word with the captain later, away from any morning briefing that might happen.

Eric checked over all of the ship's systems, noting that everything was in good order and that the Peregrine was in top form. Eric hadn't heard anything regarding plans for the escort mission yet, but he was damned well going to make sure they were ready for anything.

An hour later, Eric thanked Odin again for the sleep, as it looked like it might be a while before any more was to be had. By that time he had accumulated requests from all over the ship: Tochi had taken a moment to contact him briefly a short while ago, letting him know that some lightning-fast adjustments were going to be made to guest quarters for some impromptu guests. Tochi had sounded extremely self-satisfied when he'd called; Eric knew from Tochi's voice that there was a tale behind the tone, and he resolved to find out later. There was also a brief message from the new (brand-new) CMO requesting a meeting. Eric knew he'd have to coordinate with Medical on modifying guest quarters anyway, so he called Sickbay. "Chief Engineer Thorson to Dr. Moore. I understand you'd like to meet with me. I'd also like to discuss any Engineering modifications you'll be needing for our new guests. When would work for you?"

((OOC: assuming the good doctor responds and a time is set))

"Very good, Doctor. I'll see you then. Thorson out."

Eric had also received a message from Lieutenant Tesenblen regarding some modifications or fabrication or something. He tapped his combadge once more. "Chief Engineer Thorson to Lieutenant Tesenblen. I received your message; did you have need of our services?"

((OOC: assuming Horatio briefly summarizes the problem and they set up a time to meet))

"That'll be fine, Lieutenant. Thorson out."

As the Engineering to-do list grew, Eric realized that this would be a full day all around. Knowing that he needed to have the best help available to accomplish everything they needed to do today, Eric tapped his combadge yet again. "Thorson to Lieutenant Sa'eridon," he said. "Lieutenant, sorry again to interrupt your time off, but Engineering is becoming very popular today, and I wonder if I could have your assistance. I'll get Lieutenant Morgan to cover your shift tomorrow."

((OOC: Assuming Karri agrees))

"Thanks so much, Karri," Eric said sincerely. "I'll see you shortly."

((OOC: OK, tosses to Dr. Moore, Horatio, Karri, and Tochi if he wants to visit the brief interaction they had. I left it vague and without need to respond if not. May be biting off more than I can chew calling for so many RP's, but we'll take it a nibble at a time. The appropriate parties may holler at me at your leisure to make it happen.))

The new series will not be available on any service except for CBS's new streaming service. It has a lot of fans rather up in arms. There are sites where people upload episodes of pretty much every current show out there, but that will be the only option other than CBS's service.

I personally think it's a butthead move, and will not be supporting them as a paying customer. But that's just me.

Not a fan of CBS right now anyway, with the Axanar lawsuit and all.

Well, dang. Wish I had known how that works earlier. I made a half dozen Amazon orders last week for various stuff to start making foam weaponry for Amtgard. I will use the link in the future.

Stardate 2365.02.07
USS Peregrine, LCDR Eric Thorson's Quarters - 1830

Eric fell heavily onto his bed without even taking off his uniform. Closing his eyes and willing himself to relax and get some needed rest, Eric lay back and gazed at the ceiling as his mind replayed the events of the day.

First the pod, then the frantic attempts at repairs, the nasty jolt, the weirdness in the lounge...

Eric shuddered at the memory of the incident. What if he had been shaking Tochi's hand when that happened? What if he had been grasping Tochi by the shoulder or something? It would have been horrible; Eric's cybernetics carried strength far beyond that of human flesh-and-blood limbs. When he pondered that his grip could crush duranium, it wasn't an exaggeration. Eric could have injured Tochi, or anyone else, horribly and possibly beyond repair. And he still didn't know why it had happened.

After the debacle in the lounge, Eric had gone straight to Engineering and had begun running tests on his cybernetic limb right away. He ran every test, every spectral analysis, every mass measurement, diagnostic and systems checks that he could think of. Unanimously, they all concurred that there was nothing wrong with his arm. He had found nothing foreign, nothing damaged, not even any lingering damage from the initial shock from the pod's canister, or even from the incident in the lounge.

According to every test Eric had done, every measurement he had taken, and every hunch he had followed up, there was absolutely nothing amiss with his limb or his neural control systems. So why the hell did that happen, then?! he asked himself in frustration.

So, after coordinating with Tochi over comms to make sure the pod's offloading was handled by the Flight Control team and to let Tochi know that he was apparently fine, and after sending messages of approval for shore leave for all off-duty Engineering personnel, Eric had trudged back to his quarters. After this day, he really had no interest in checking out the starbase, and he knew he'd need to be sharp in the morning when they headed out for the escort mission. He had lit a candle at his small shrine, offered prayers of gratitude to the gods that he and his team all came through the incident (relatively) unscathed, and for protection and wisdom during the mission to come, and then stumbled to his bed.

As he lay in his bunk, mind still whirling, Eric tried to relax and rest, hoping he would be able to get some sleep.

No telling what tomorrow would bring.

Astrid, to answer your question, department heads would approve shore leave, so she would ask Thorson. Feel free to assume he has granted it for any off-duty personnel.

Subject: Hectic weekend incoming

It looks like this weekend is going to be kinda non-stop, so without doing a three-line post to the effect, let us assume Thorson will not be needed to offload the pod. The tractor operations would logically be coordinated between Flight Control and either the starbase or the Serapis. So Eol, take it away if ya want to. Since Thorson would be off-shift, he'd probably just elect to get some sleep.

I don't see him being needed until we're underway with the Coronado. So my next post will be about his aftermath of the Obs lounge malfunction (it can be a back post if the action has moved on), and then I'll post into the current action after that one.

In case I don't get to wander through the Inn this weekend, y'all have a good one.

Welcome to all of our incoming players. Looking forward to gaming with you!

Catt, I don't have a preference on where we put the pod, so your plan is fine.

I'm doing a bunch of cooking, chores and such tonight but should have a Thorson post later.

Where is the pod going from the Peregrine? Directly to the science ship or into the starbase first?

Howdy all.

So, I am joining Amtgard, a worldwide LARPing organization I just found out about. Going to my first local meetup on Saturday.

Are any of you fine Inn-mates also members? If so, sound off. Let's network.

Date and time is pretty much set by the story, but back posting and such can occur. The time stamps are to keep everything coordinated. A very useful tool is the Trek Tools under the Armoury tab. There's a Logbook that summarizes game events after posts, in chronological order. Eol has been keeping up with it for this one. If you want to post from anywhere that's not the main action, just note that location on your header, and adjust your time frame to fit within the events of the logbook.

And yes, you can fully manipulate NPCs to your heart's content. Just don't do anything involving a player character without consulting with that player first. Collaboration is fun; the post with Eric and Tochi's conversation in the observation lounge was completely built in Facebook messenger between Eol and me today.
