Topic: Star Trek Mirror Universe game: Gauging Interest
Subject: Thanks!

...for the assist, Alacrity!

Padre, I had this idea yesterday-hehe. I'm giving it a few days to see how many are interested before I begin actual story construction. I have a vague idea, but wanted to see how much interest gets generated before I put on the thinking cap and start cranking out verbage.

Here are some links if you need or want to read up on Trek's Mirror Universe, sometimes called The Looking Glass.

Memory Alpha

Memory Beta

Wikipedia

(Ok, sue me, I forgot how to make them an actual clickable link. Go forth and copy/paste. )

Don't worry about following the canon timeline. We're going to have a fun adventure without the almighty "keeping it canon". If we stray, lightning bolts from above shall not strike us.

Made them links for you - Alacrity

I-Binary, this would be a freeform game. Pure storytelling. You'd come up with a character, bio, background, any info you feel is relevant. But there would be no stats or numbers to crunch. I'd unfold the overarching story, reveal the main plot points as we go, and you would respond as your character, filling in your own bits of the story as we go. It's a very organic form of gaming; the tales that the characters tell grow the story as much as the main points that I'd come up with.

Check out the free-form section of the forum for some examples.

Subject: Star Trek Mirror Universe game: Gauging Interest

Hey all.

Who would be interested in a Star Trek game set in the Mirror Universe?

For the Trekkers among us, you know of which I speak. For the non-Trekkers, several of the Trek series had episodes that took place in the Mirror Universe, a dark reflection of the peace-and-goodwill regular Trek universe. In the Mirror Universe, the Federation is the Terran Empire. Rather than being driven by the notions of peaceful contact and exploring the galaxy, in the Mirror Universe the driving forces are greed, ambition, and the desire to conquer and subjugate new races and worlds.

I am envisioning this game as a chance for you to let out your inner naughty person. Just as our previous Trek games at the Inn have had people playing the denizens of the Federation, embodying its noblest and best values, so this game will let you play a member of the Empire, and give you the opportunity to be a bad guy. Maybe you'll want to take a well-established and known Trek character of yours and make his/her Mirror Universe counterpart. Maybe you'll want to make a new character that you can be eeee-vil with, leaving the virtue of your existing character intact.

Either way, or if you have another idea, I am just gauging interest for now, seeing how many might want to climb aboard.

So comment away, and let's see if this is something we can run with.

Thanks!

-Duncan

I'd definitely be interested, Sadaar!

If I run a Star Wars game, it will be free-form, just folks telling their character's stories as the overall story progresses. I'd do some extremely simple, hard and fast dice rolls for resolving combat and things like that, but even that will be in a broad sense. I just enjoy telling a story and letting others do the same, keeping rules and mechanics to a minimum.

Just looking to play for now. Might try to run something once some other obligations I have clear up a bit.

I'm just as ok playing with a freeform game as a game based on an existing system. I'd have to refresh my knowledge of the Star Wars system too.

Axiomatic, thanks! Feel free to start, and if you need another down the road, I'm fairly good at jumping on a moving train. Heh.

Thanks, catt, it's good to be back.

Hey folks,

After being away for far too long, I have returned and am looking for a game. My preferences are sci-fi, especially Star Trek and Star Wars games, but if the game is good I'll try just about anything.

I think I still have some snippets from my previous games stored somewhere, so if you need an "audition" I think I can scare something up. Worst case, I can direct you to the threads of some of those old games.

So if you need someone for your game or are thinking of starting one, gimme a holler.

Hey there Innmates,

After a right and proper reality check by good old Alacrity on the book of faces, I realized that I have been away from the Inn for far too long. I have no excuse; if I've had time to journey Skyrim, I've had time to embark upon grand adventures with my Innmates.

So, I have returned to this awesome place, and I will be looking for a game or two.

I've missed you fine feathered folk, and I look forward to some gaming.

Love to all,
Duncan

Just wrapped up a 55-hour work week a couple of hours ago. Gonna go play some RL D&D for a little bit, then relax with the wifey unit tonight. Tomorrow's kinda full too, but I will try my best to set aside a little while to roll up a character and do a bio so as not to hold up the works.

Howdy! Got your message, and I could go for this. And never mind my question that I PM'd you, catt; answered it myself by opening my eyes and reading-hehe.

I'll put something together and get it to you for consideration in the next couple of days. Working a lot of overtime right now, so I beg forgivenes if I get delayed.

Hello Innmates,

Just a brief note to let everyone know I'm back. I honestly don't remember which games I was still active in when I left; if I was in a game of yours and it's still going, and if you want me to rejoin, drop me aline or reply here.

And if none of the above apply to you, well...hearty greetings to you anyway, and I hope you have a wondermous day.

Subject: Paused

I was going to create a thread in Comings & Goings, but since this is the only game I'm active in, I'll just confine it to here.

I may not be very active for a while. Real life has reared its ugly head and I am dealing with a very bad home situation at the moment. Everyone is fine, but my stepson has made some stupid decisions that have us all in a very bad place.

I'll try to drop in occasionally, and post if I'm able, but my heart is very much not in it right now. If you want to NPC Bailox, or have him meet a sudden unlucky demise, that will be fine. When I'm able to get active again, I'll check with you about the possibility of rolling up a new character and finding a way to insert him into the game.

Please send good vibes toward me and my family; very much needed right now.

Bailox let a terribly insane and savage grin creep onto his face and started shaking, seemingly uncontrollably, as if he were in a mad berserker rage. He also let slip a sly wink at Adelror to let the Duskarn know that it was just a ruse and that the mighty warrior was well in control of his faculties.

He slowly crouched until his face was at eye level with and inches from the wounded bandit's face. With the madman's smile still in place, Bailox began quite conversationally. "And now, my friend, there are questions that you are going to answer for us. If you answer them truthfully, I will grant you the mercy of a quick death, unlike you gave some of those others. However," he added in a meancing rumble as his glare sharpened at the brigand, "should you lie, or fail to answer," and as he said this he slowly reached down and grasped the arrow's shaft that protruded from the villain's hip, "I will pull out your entrails with my bare hands and eat them while you are still alive to watch it. Your death will come only when I have squeezed every last drop of pain and agony from you. Do you understand?" And with that he gave the arrow shaft a small but firm twist.

Bailox had to admit that the bandit's scream was quite satisfying.

"Now, you will tell us: why did you take these people? Who put you up to it? Where can we find them? How large a force do we face? What sort of defenses do they have? Answer now, and answer truthfully, or before this day is done you shall beg me for a thousand deaths."

(OOC: Anyone else in the party, as usual, feel free to chime in with any questions you want answered or that I may not be thinking of, or with whatever you wish to add. Bailox is willing to inflict whatever pain is necessary to loosen the brigand's tongue. The visions of the brutalized victims is all the motivation he needs. Next post will be dependent on the outcome of the interrogation.)

Nice, Tek. Checked in just as I'm about to head to bed, so I'll get a post up for Bailox after I get home from work and run Friday errands tomorrow night.

Glad we're still rolling!

Subject: Aftermath

Bailox stood over his defeated foe, panting with the exertion of battle. Thanks to the Cleric's healing touch, his pains throbbed but were not debilitating. He knew he would have to have his sword arm looked at soon. But he gave a savage grin, knowing that feeling the pain meant he was still alive to feel it. He gave thanks to Atlam for the reward of victory, even as he took in the sight of the remaining brigands fleeing the scene.

"Ja'aron!" he called. "Get the captives back to town, with haste! See that their needs are tended to!"

He turned to those next to him. "Our immediate task is complete, but you all know that we need answers if we are to prevent this from happening again. We need at least one of those cretins alive. Do we chase them, or does one of you have some mystical means of stopping them? I, for one, would very much like to get them back to town to interrogate at our leisure. A night's sleep, some hot food and a cold flagon of ale would not be remiss, either."

Unsure as to whether any of the nearby companions had a means to bring down the fleeing curs, Bailox ran for his bow, nocked an arrow, and made haste back to where the companions stood. Taking aim at the leg of one of the bandits, he stood ready. "Tell me now if you have another means to stop them! If not, I stand ready to loose!"

(OOC: Bailox is standing with bow ready and aimed, trying for a shot in the leg on one of the runners if none of the others has a ready takedown tactic. Anybody that has a way to take one out alive, now's the time, feel free. I'm just assuming here that we need to catch one for interrogation. I'm also good with having the chipmunk shadow them, or any other tactic that will lead us on to the next links in the chain of nastyfolk.)
