Topic: The Duchy of Richmond
Subject: I'm back! I swear!

Jacob smiled softly. Wonderful, the clouds were natural which meant that not only were they safe, but they would bring rain. Leilos wouldn't be too impressed by that, but rain was one of Jacob's favourite types of weather. It would be a nice day.

He snapped back to reality upon hearing a slight hiss, and noticing there was an exchange between Tor and Anthony. He couldn't hear what they had said, but it seems like he knew what they were talking about, looking at the cart. It seemed peculiar that non woodland folk would find wood as precious as Jacob did, and even then it was a stretch to find it guarded. And yet...

Jacob reached out to Leilos, in an attempt to do some scouting, and then called her down to rest on his shoulder and fill him in. He would also be prepared to jump off the horse at any time. He trusted himself more on foot should anything go awry. But, there was no guarantee it would. He waited for the guards to respond to the conversation started by Anthony before progressing further, and perchance doing something rash.

Subject: Clouds eh? Hmm...

Jacob's brow furrowed as the clouds began to close in. Slightly dimmer conditions could be a bit of a difficulty for the upcoming search. Jacob strained his eyes though, making sure that what he saw were natural clouds and not something more sinister.

(OoC: I want to do a spot check and a Knowledge (Nature) check to see if I can determine if they're natural or magical clouds)

After mounting the horse, Jacob let out an exclamatory "HA!" and Leilos took to the sky. Having the eyes in the air from the start would provide a nice overview of the terrain, and anything that could be useful. Or anyone that may be approaching. That, and he could tell she wanted to fly. Being stuck on his Jacob's shoulder for so long inside the tavern is hardly the way to exist for an eagle.

On ground level however, Jacob decided to keep things interesting. "So, m'lady, how does it feel to be out on your own? You seem to be taking to the outdoor life quite well."

Didn't intend to rush you or anything, just have a hankering for some gaming.

As for proceeding, how would you like us to go? Do we roleplay the arriving at our designated locations at all? Or is this meant to just talk and build character relations?

Topic: Tower Shields
Subject: My experience with these beasts...

I personally have never played much of the front line, so I haven't used a tower shield, though I have seen them used in my games to great effect. However, a quick browse of the rules has shown me that one of the things that made them so useful was a house rule my DM had, that you could plant a tower shield, and have it basically be a place where tanks could drop the shield for others to have cover, and let them then take the fight to the front line.

The other thing that one of the fighters I played with had was a tower shield that was enchanted with the animated property, so he got to still wield a two handed weapon and have the benefits (and drawbacks) of a tower shield.

I found a brief written example of the house rule on "giants in the playground" if you want to look it up, but I haven't seen any official rules on it.

Topic: 3.5 rules Question
Subject: Only in small cases...

I have yet to see something like this as a standard rule, but there are some instances where you can make an attack roll against an opponents attack roll to parry it, or the rogue special feature where you can make a reflex save to deflect the attack and take half damage if it were a lethal blow. There's also deflect arrows, which lets you do it for shots coming at you.

But, I rant. There isn't a rule that takes in to effect the heaviness of weapons, as the game assumes most people who are wielding said weapon have taken the appropriate training to use it as well as anyone can use their own weapon.

Subject: City defenses? What do I look like, a knight?

Jacob listened to Tor as she spoke. She had a rather solid plan, which was a good sign. Maybe he didn't need to instruct her as much as the bishop had said. Or maybe it was simply because the bishop may have a different idea of "instruct" and "educate" than Jacob did. Already he was feeling a bit better, with just one problem...

"Well, I'm glad you've thought this out m'lady. However, I have a slight suggestion that - should you wish to take it - may be beneficial. But, as the leader of this expedition as well as much more than that, as always, it is for your decision, and I shall abide by that."

"A city's defences are not my forté, as I am not one to order soldiers around, or discuss strategies efficiently with those who do. I am however, a rather qualified outdoorsman and scout, with sharp eyes in my head and in the sky." Jacob casually lifted his left hand to pet Leilos on his shoulder. "I feel as though I would be better suited to accompany you in the field than discuss defences against a raid."

"Other than that slight piece of council, I'm happy with the plan, and ready to hit the road whenever we desire."

Leilos let out a small sound, though it was still a shock and a bit out of place for a tavern setting, and got a couple of looks here and there. He paid them no heed though, as he knew that his companion was rooted to his shoulder... That is, unless someone warranted anything else.

Subject: A breeze blows the tunic...

Jacob had quite enjoyed the ride out to Mandala had been pleasant, not too long. It was mostly out of the city, which was nice. Even with his morning walks, Jacob never really felt as though there was enough nature incorporated in worship. After all, Pelor's gift of light makes all life possible, so why not enjoy it all? Still, this was a nice assignment, and it let him get out for a bit.

A piercing cry split the sunny sky as he and Elttom rode out. "Oh yeah..." he thought to himself. Leilos likes being out and about too. He turned his head skyward to see the small outline of his loyal eagle soaring through the skies. "You're one of Pelor's greatest gifts too." This thought was also met with another cry from the bird.

Elttom and Jacob spoke infrequently, throughout the trip. Jacob was used to it, he wasn't the most standard practitioner. His wild appearance, with messy blonde hair and crudely drawn sun in natural inks on his face separated him from the group rather distinctly. But Pelor was a welcoming god, and thus was Jacob not only a practitioner of the faith, but a member of the church as well. And Father Konrad was due for some relief... This ride must have been hard on him already.

~~~~~~
With Leilos perched on his shoulder, as the lovely bird would, Jacob dismounted from his horse and walked in to the tavern he was told to the group would likely be in. The stable boys who had given directions were a bit off, slightly less efficient than they could be, but Jacob didn't mind. It meant more time outside. Spying the group, and following Elttom after he had as well, Jacob remained silent while the first few introductions were made, instead taking in his surroundings. The small wasn't bad, and the calm breeze coming in from the window felt glorious. He snapped back as Konrad made his brief introduction of himself, then decided it would be an appropriate time to chime in.
"Yes, hello... Good to see you well Father. I hope this journey has not strained your bones as of yet." Jacob gave a small bow of the head, to be respectful. He kept his stare on the Father though, so as to not invite dominance. He always had, and it bothered the clerics at first, but they grew used to it.
Turning to the rest of the travelers, Jacob says, "And a pleasure to re-acquaint myself with you all. I'm here for the reason mentioned before, as well as to provide a good set of eyes in the sky and on the ground, lest we run in to any sort of danger... Goblin folk can be rather wily, so it's always nice to have someone with a slight advantage in the forest." Leilos was moving his head, picking up on the smells of the meat, but remained patiently on Jacob's shoulder, seeming to itch for a command.
Jacob pulled a chair and sat. Wood made. Lovely. "So, what's for food? And what's our plan? And what might Brother Elttom and I need to know before we continue?"
Hey there everyone, I've been reading up on the game, and I'm stoked to get back in to Post by Post RP. I will be joining you as Jacob Orno, Druid in the Church of Pelor. And he shall be joined by Lielos, his trusty eagle companion. Looking forward to playing through with the crowd.
I'm excited to get back in to RP. It's been a while, and I've had a hankering. What kind of guidelines should I look for in a character? I saw the ability generation, so that's alright. What level should I be? And would you prefer all human cast? Should I just PM you an idea for a divine temple person (any specific deity you would prefer) and see how it goes?
Hey, I'm just wondering how active this is, as I don't want to invest too much time making a character backstory if it's not allowed because of book restriction. Is there a list of books, or no? Tried to ask a while ago (I'm looking in Book of Exalted Deeds) and didn't get an answer. I have the character made up, but I haven't made a story yet, just in case it's not allowed.
Topic: iPhone?
Subject: Hmm... Let's see what insight I can shed here...
Welcome to the iPhone world. You'll enjoy yourself here, really.
In regards to Apps, there are a few that I find particularly good/useful:
1) iTunes U: I know it might seem weird to have, but iTunes U actually has a ton of information in it. It's just like going to university or college, but you don't have to pay ridiculous amounts of tuition, don't have to do homework, and aren't required to learn at a set pace. Very informative.
2) RPG Scribe: Coming in at $2.99 (last I checked) RPG Scribe can be very useful. You can input character stats, equipment, and pretty much everything else in a nice, easy to use app that allows you to keep track of everything. It automatically prompts you to level up when you type in enough experience! Mostly supporting core right now, but has options to input your own classes.
3) Live365 Radio: An awesome app that lets you tune in to radio stations that are hosted all over the world. How many radio stations? ... ... ... Let's just say you won't be lacking. The app itself is free, and there's the option to become a VIP member, which actually allows you to host a radio station on your own, doing whatever you want with it. Only problem is it seems to crash a bit, but well worth the free price tag.
4) Mixology Not sure if this is your cup of tea (or booze as the case may be) Olan, but Mixology is a great app for when you just don't know what you want to have to drink. It has hundreds of different mixed drinks, from standard to ridiculous, as well as a randomizer so that it picks a drink for you based on alcohol, mixer, and kind of drink. Another cheap as free app, brought to you by the app store.
5) Bard's Tale: For that retro feel, Bard's Tale (I think it was about 3 bucks when I bought it) brings a whole new storyline to the game, and new gameplay, but also contains the original Bard's Tale 1&2 stories, with promise of the third arriving. Very fun medieval gameplay and mischief.
6) ScoreMobile If you're in to sports, but can't make it to a place where you can watch the big game in time, you have the score right in the palm of your hand. Set alerts for when the game starts, goals (touchdowns, runs) scored, as well as other significant points in a game, for multiple different sports.
7) LogosQuiz This game comes with a personal disclaimer... It can be quite revealing and addicting. It's exactly what it says: you are shown a bunch of different logos, and you try to identify them. Very basic, but quite addicting.
And that's just a few that I use and adore.
I recently DMed a game where on of my players had his wisdom teeth taken out and couldn't join us on person, so we did a skype video chat to him while the rest of us were in person, and it worked surprisingly well. We had to point the camera at the map every now and then, but it worked totally fine for RPing and explanation. It was sweet.
Also, Tiamat, does d20 pro work with 4e?
Ahvir looked observed the wagon in silence for quite some time. As it was, something like this could be quite useful in the future... When they were heading in to town, assuming they managed to keep the cart intact and the donkeys more or less healthy, they could put on a fabulous ruse... And even if they don't manage to do so, chances were high that there was something of value in the cart. Ahvir smiled under his scarf. The time was now to start proving his skill.
"Okay people, listen to this. Those guardses don't look too tough, there's a large chance that with the right tacticses that we can make it so they don't pose a problem period. I propose we use our guileses and charmses to make them think that we are either friendses or helpless, then we can strike when they are unaware..."
Ahvir stopped for a second, his eyes growing large as he began to think of something. He almost hated himself for thinking it, but he couldn't help but see the potential for help in it... Ugh, he better bring it up...
"Or as a... less desirable option... We could all pretend, and just ask for passage, and convince the humanses that we should travel together. It would give us a scapegoat when we get to the town of dwarveses. Assuming any of us can stand humanses for that long."
Ahvir looked to the others for their thoughts and opinions. This was clearly the right idea, but he was willing to listen to what they had to say... For a while.
Though even if we don't attack, we could maybe gain some good supplies/goods from the cart. Also, if we manage to save the cart and get rid of the rest, we could head in to the dwarven town pretending to be merchants and wait for the opportune moment to strike. It could be beneficial.
