This is a simple game, but its also very educational. Simply aska quiz question. It can be in a true or flase form, multiple choice, fill in the blank, or an open ended answer. After the user correctly answers the question, they can post their own question.

Here it goes:

What is the approximate distance of Earth from the Sun?

I appreciate your enthusiams, but I must say I've already looked for plenty of works such as that in both my public library and my school libaray, and I have found nothing. The town I live in is rather dry.

I have compiled information from the following sources.

Genesis
Popul Vuh
The Golem
The Epic of Gilgamesh

"What does it mean to be Human"- Cal. State Fullerton Article.

This game is a favorite on my website, so I decided I'd share it with my good friends at the Inn. Its a very simply game. A user makes a wish, and the next user to post grants that wish, but twists it to make it horrible. Then that user makes a wish...and so on.

For example:

I wish I could jump high!

Granted, you are now a frog!

Tah-Dah! Easy as that.
Lets begin.

I wish I had a pool filled with pudding.

I have cited many works, and if you would like me too, I can draw upon those citations to show you where I'm getting my information from.

Subject: Hmmm

I fear I was too vauge. The argument is not based on being "certain". It is simply working with what we know, or think we know, to be "true". It is a difficult concept to explain. Being much too literal about it is somehwta overkill, however being to open minded is not good either. There is a level of science and a level of BS'ing that goes into this.

Oh, and it's not for a philosiphy class, its for English...

You cannot prove any of those things, neither can I disprove them. Therefore, that makes them null-and-void. They are useless. We must only works with what we know is absolutley certain. Speculation gets us nowhere.

Topic: What does it mean to be Human
Subject: Wow

In just a day I got all of this feedback. Here are some of the things I believe make us Human:

Religion- Although not all Humans have a faith, the majority of us do. It is not only our belief in things we cannot prove, but our connection with the divine. That special link between a mere human and an almighty being that makes religion possible.

Speech- Human are the only creatures on Planet Earth capable of Speech. Some might disagree and say Parrots can speak, or Dolphins can communicate. This is not the same. We do not know if the animals truly comprehend what they are saying. As for us, we understand the words coming from our mouths.

Emotion- As far as we are aware, we are the only creatures to experience emotion. You cannot tell me a Dog can experience love. Until that dog looks at you and says, in a form you can understand, that it loves you; dogs cannot experience love. Our saying animals can have emotions is simply a way for us to describe their actions.

Knowledge- Knowledge is a tough one, but a bit a common sense makes this one clear as crystal. We are aware that we are learning. We can apply this knowldge to reach greater hieghts. Animals, while possibly capable of learning, do not understand what they are learning, they simply copy.

Drive- Animals do not know good or evil. Humans do though. Animals perform actions out of instinct. They do not comprehend the concequences of their actions, nor do they understand the positive or negative affects at may have upon them or others. We, however, do.

Keeper, as for not going "scientific"...Science cannot even begin to explain what makes us human. Theoretically we can implant human DNA into a robot...but it's still not a human. Therefore disproving your theory.

I would also like to know how all of those reasons you presented were disproven, particularly Compassion, because the last time I checked my dog has never told me that it cares about me. I wasnt aware animals could speak to you.

Thats about all I have.

What does it mean to be Human?

What makes a Human a Human? This question is part of my Tenth Grade curriculum, and I decided, since it such a deep question, to bring it to my fellow innmates for examination.

Now, there is a process for this however, since there is also a purpose for me bringing this here. You see, I have to write an essay on this topic, and I would very much like your help.

Here is how it goes. Simply stating your opinion is not enough. In the real world, particularly in college, no one cares about your opinion. Many people find this statement offesnsive, and I do not mean it in a rude sense. It is simply a fact that while you may have one belief, another person has their's, and no matter how much you may argue, it is not their obligation to follow your opinion.

Therefore, we must look to the beliefs of other people who have written on the subjecy. (Yeah, I don't get it either).

I would very much appreciate your input. Remember, think outside the box.

Testimony: Volgograd

“The sounds were the most irritating. The flashes and visuals I could handle, but the constant explosions racking my brain, the shells pounding every last inch of the city…that was too much. I can still remember the first assignment my squad was given in that hellhole. Captain Richardson said it was supposed to be a weeklong fight, no more. He was sure as hell wrong. After the first month I think both sides just lost hope. Our armor couldn’t get anywhere because of the rubble lining the streets, an aerial approach would have been suicide, and long-range missile strikes were either useless or inaccurate. I still can’t believe my luck. When I was drafted I figured I might as well be trained for Support Gunner, they’re only support I thought, they don’t do much. Hell, was I wrong. As it turns out Support Gunner is military talk for “Suicidal Maniac”. My freaking squad had me on the front lines for every last operation we carried out. Support Gunner my ass.

“Let me tell you, being a grunt is the worst damn job I ever signed up for. Snipers, Engineers, they got it easy. We Assault Troopers, we run through hell and back every time we move. Assault Troopers never get to stay inside the buildings. No, that’s only for Support Gunners and Snipers. The Engineers get to follow thirty yards behind us… Volgograd was the worst battle I think I ever participated in. It wasn’t the constant fighting; there was no constant fighting. But every time you stuck your head over the wall to check the street, there was a sniper round with your name on it. That city was so infested with Snipers that you couldn’t get away with crawling down the street in the middle of night. Every time a rookie would stick his head over the sandbags BOOM! His head was gone. I saw a lot of good men die that way.

“The first thing I said to my sergeant when I saw the city was ‘Send me back to Korea, screw this’. He just laughed. I was serious, Teerway Pass looked like Tea Time compared to this. The whole city just had a red glow over it, I could see flashes and hear these huge booms, and we were a mile away. The river was littered with ruined boats, our helmet light were turned off, the boat was dark, and out readouts were black. Still, even after going dark, we had a Chinese artillery barrage land right in our back pockets. Rounds were landing left and right, we started taking on water about ten yards from shore. We all abandoned ship and swam for it. I made it to the shore, with a few others and it was hell in a hand basket from there on out. Worst part about Volgograd was just being a Sniper. I killed so many unsuspecting people. Sometimes I wake up in the barracks in a cold sweat, still haunted with the faces of the people I had killed.”

“Nothing prepares you for war. All that crap they shove in your head during basic training is worthless. When you getting shot at and your pinned down the five or six people who aren’t trying to kill you, there are no more ranks. No one calls anyone ‘Sir’ or ‘ma’am’ anymore. All the other guys in the squad complain about their jobs. They say they’ve got it the worst. Assault Guys always whine about running headlong into the fight. They don’t know pain until they wear this red cross on their arm. Sure, I can go out without getting shot, but sometimes, I’d rather just stay inside. I’ve walked in streets caked in blood and oil. Shells all over the place, bodies here and there. Then, when you think your patrol is finished, and no one is alive, you hear this cry. It sounds like a cat whining. You look over your shoulder and there is guy missing half of his body, crying softly, and using the last bit of energy he has to crawl toward you. He thinks you can still save him. The worst part is, he’s the enemy. I hate to say it, but I’ve cried more times than I can count. Some things just aren’t meant to be experienced, war is one of them.”

Testimony: Volgograd

“They told me in basic training that I’d be using my Sampson to tear up tanks. There were no tanks in Volgograd; they couldn’t fit in the streets, too much rubble. Instead, I used my HAVW to blow apart buildings. Whether it was to neutralize an enemy position or give us a nice new place to hide, I had to do it. They told me one thing when I came into the fight. ‘Don’t stick your head up when you don’t need too’. That was good advice. I saw the other four rooks they sent in with me get picked off by sniper fire in the first week. My rockets kept jamming in the chamber. The freezing cold weather always glued ‘em to the inside of the launcher. Worst case scenario: You stuck in a building filled with four other guys with a Rocket primed to explode in 30 seconds in a small metal tube sitting right next to you. That, my friends, is scary.”

….

A crash rocked the building as the Captain moved through the HQ. Half of the side was blown out, a result of an artilery round placed in just the right spot.
"Where are they Sergeant!" he barked.
"I'm not sure Captain, they reported that they'd be back soon. I keep checking coordinates and sending audio frequencies, but I'm not getting any feedback."
"Well that means they're ignoring us. They better damn well have a good reason."
"They'll be back soon sir. I'm sure of it."
"Cut that sir crap and pull your head out of my ass. When they get back, tell them to haul their sorry behinds to my office or they'll be courtmarshalled...for something. I'll find something."
"Yes sir."

__________________________________________________________

Another flash, followed by a loud BANG rung out. As it echoed across the streets, a troop of Chinese soldiers came flying out of a destroyed deli. One of them dropped his rifle as he sprinted away from the structure, but it was too late. The explosion sent the facade of the structure flying outward from its foundation, and the loose brick and concrete swallowed the Chinese squad whole.
"Hot damn! The bomb worked! Boy's in Second Squad sure know what they're doing!" Stacker joked. He slapped his knee as he lowered his binoculars. Horowitz smiled as she surveyed the square for signs of enemy snipers. She had always appreciated Stackers southern humor, it really made fighting in Hell much easier.
"Conolly, give me an update on our objective? What our distance?" Stacker continued, turning around and ducking his head under the concrete and rebarb.
"We're about six hundred yards from the signal Sarge, not sure what durection though." Alex replied. He was lying prone on the floor with a RCS clentched in his hands. The Ready Combat Screen showed massive fluxuations in signal strenght coming from some six hundred yards in any given direction. Without a tirangulator, Alex could only send his squad wonadering about in a six hundred yard circle looking for something they could'nt see.
"Damn...are sure there is no way to pin-point the location?"
"Positive Sarge, I'd need a triangulator, and we don't have one."
"Can we get one?"
"Yes, but we'd have to send some men back to base..."

Travis had lied. He did not go to his sons room. He left HQ and moved along the street, sniffing the air methodically whenever he passed someone. The people were so downtrodden from the war. Travis was surprised they we even still managing to make a living. Many of them were Mercs for hire, some were drawn into prostitution for not only pleasure, but blood.

In these turbulent times, the city had become dangerous. The news reported more street fights, more battles and more murders each day. Not a moment went by when the citizens were'nt terrified of what lay ahead.

A soft rain set in, pattering down onto the cracked and chipped asphalt below with a soft thud. Thunder rolled softly in the sky, and the street lights began to turn on. Travis passed the subway where he met with Rose and Max again. He stopped at the entrance and loked down into the openeing. The train still sat on the tracks, its front ripped off and its handbrake ruined. Several police officers swarmed around the scene, pretending to investigate. The police were good for nothing now, no-one did anything anymore. Every institution was corrupt and everyone was working for their own gain.

The tower gleamed ominuously in the dark, its many lights scattered across all three hundred floors. At the top sat a single bright light, taking up the entire top portion of the tower. Travis moved toward the building with uncertanty, he did not know if he would be recognized. He pulled aside a guard and thrust his teeth into the mans jugular, putting on his clothes, he continued toward the building, disguised as one of them.

The rain had become heavier, more forceful. Travis clutched the guards M-16 tightly, he hoped he wouldnt need it. The front of the building look so alien, but it was still so familiar. He read the large words printed on the sign just ouside the main facade. Large floodlights ominously cast light onto the building frontal lower floors.

The guard at the door glanced at him as he walked past, they expected nothing. He was relieved to be out of the rain, and as he stood in the all to familiar lobby where he had once sipped coffee with co-workers, he could not help but think aboutn what might happen if he were to be caught. He moved toward one of the golden elevators and pressed the button for the top floor.

The elevator dingged, and the secratry looked up at him. She looked suspicious at first, no-one beside staff was permitted on the top floor. She was put at ease when she saw the guard standing at the elevator, smiling back at her.

When the door slid open, Travis reviewed his plan. He was only here for recon, that was it. He needed to learn to be sneaky anyway. The elevator jolted up and Travis read the ever present logo above him several times.

Travis glared at Seth. He knew what he was thinking. The alchohol coursing through Seths body was making him irrational. Travis would have no difficulty beating Seth into submission if he had to, but he wouldnt. Seth was a good man, he was just a little drunk.

"What now?" he asked. He noticed Max and Rose wearing expressions that asked that same question.
