Subject: Let's Socialize ;)

Niaou’li witnessed Dain running towards the stone hand and freeing the woman. He immediately returned. The lady was lying over his shoulder, but did not seem to care much though.

Niaou’li then noticed the two Khords that were following him. She took a closer look to see if she recognized any one of them. She wondered if maybe they had run into the other half of their search party? “Run faster, and stay low!” , she whispered to Dain ” Before the Ankheg notice you!”

“I say we wait for those other two Khords to reach us” , she said to the others. “We must continue our quest, but we cannot return the way we arrived since entering the cave was the only way to go, back there. Maybe these guys can tell us about what they know and how they came here.”

Then, she turned her head to see if the Ankheg had noticed Dain’s “damsel-in-distress” activity, and to see if there was an other way out.

Subject: Well well, not so fast

Niaou´li witnessed the little argument between Thagovan and Dain. She was in doubt, wondering whether to save the woman that was placed onto the stone hand, luring a lot of angry Ankheg to them, or to go and find the so-called “Otherhalf” all the Khords were chanting about, most probably sacrificing the woman’s life..

"It seems to me, that by freeing these others, we create an army of our own. If you can stand the stink of it o righteous one.", she heard Dain whispering. Immediately he began moving towards the stone hand, ready to attack anything that stood in his way. Stop! , Niaou’li whispered. You better be more careful, if you don’t want all of us to end up in that.. thing.. as well. Maybe we should consider the consequences, what if we all die? Then there would be no hope left for our brethren. She turned to the others of the group, proclaiming: I say we try to find out what this Otherhalf is, and thereby maybe saving a lot more Khords.

Subject: Well hello

The tunnel they were walking in did not seem to be formed by natural cause, a flame comes growing out of the wall... Niaou’li sensed a lot of magic.

The flame lit up the walls of the cave that the tunnel gave way to, and the group spotted a lot of rocky knobs, surrounded by more Ankhegs she had ever seen. They were swarming over the cocoons, the way a mother would protect her children. Maybe the cocoons were supposed to serve a higher goal for the monsters? Niaou’li focused on the bumps on the walls, trying to find out what they were exactly.

[OOC: Niaou’li performs a nature knowledge check]

A sound came out of one of the bumps: Blue eye … find … otherhalf …. Niaou’li noticed Gyviar grabbing his short sword, going for the bump the sound came from. Meanwhile she noticed the hand of stone, positioned as if it was supposed to hold something. The other half of the so-called “Blue eye” maybe?

Gyviar had finished his task and released the Khord that had been stuck inside of the cocoon. "Thanks for releasing me from that thing. The name is Dain. Now, who the hell are you all?" he said. Niaou’li stepped forward and introduced herself. I’m Niaou’li, these are my friends. We came to find out what is happening in the forest. Maybe you could tell us something more about what happened to you and about this “Blue eye” you were talking about?

Subject: Then I'll be the runner-up

Niaou’li followed Thagovan and the others back into the forest. She noticed the transition from “normal” mushrooms to the poisonous and gigantic shrooms while thinking about the forest and its characteristics and she wondered if anyone had ever set foot on these paths before this terrible event.

She continued her way until, in the distance, she heard a scream. The group sped up and witnessed yet another Ankheg, This one dragged one of their brethren into a cave.

Niaou’li saw Arduin pulling his waraxe, changing his plan when he spotted the monster. He unslung his crossbow and loaded it. “My skills now come in very useful.” , Niaou’li thought. She then took her travel sack, in search of her gloves. At first she couldn’t find them, but then she noticed the dark brown, leather Gloves of Dex with black laces at the bottom of her sack, and she put them on. She then followed Arduin’s example, unslung her crossbow and carefully loaded it.

The druid then took a better look at the cave the Khord had disappeared into. By Kith-Jora, that thing is shaped like a mouth! First the rocky hand, now a mouth made of stone, what is going on over here? This used to be a common cave, now all kinds of stone limbs are appearing. Has a spell been put on the cave?

Arduin took charge of the group. He told Thagovan and Gyviar to enter the cave first. “Me and the pretty lass here will follow.” Niaou’li told Firenze to wait outside of the cave, took a better hold of her crossbow and followed the group into the gaping mouth.

Subject: Back into the forest

Niaou’li decided to leave the Khords she just healed be for a while, since they would not be of any help in their current dreamstate. She returned to the entrance of the Spores and spoke to the newlyweds for a while.

Then, she noticed the increasing noise at the edge of the forest. She noticed Thagovan, bloody, bruised and covered in dirt, carrying a severely injured child. She heard him calling for assistance: “I need some real warriors! We need to go back and slay those beasts!”

Their new companion, Gyviar, immediately offered his help and Niaou’li did not hesitate for a moment either. “I’ll definitely help you conquer those beasts!” she said. “ Enough damage has been done so far. But Thagovan, are you sure you’ll come with us? It would be wise to remain in the Spores for a while, get some rest and regain your powers!”

OOC: If Thagovan does decide to come with us, I’ll try to heal him. Seems like he will not survive another round in the forest without some damage control.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Salvation is near

After the old Khord had told them about the terrors that had taken place, Niaou’li headed to Kretarund. She was pleased to hear that Thagovan and his others companions were alright, but she was very worried about her best friends’ husband. Even though he didn’t like Firenze, he always called her “that Sylvari …thing”, she knew that he was a good man. A good man that definitely did not deserve to die while trying to rescue his brethren. Belfida was lucky to have fallen in love with him. Niaou’li searched the room, trying to spot her friend.

[OOC: Niaou’li will call Belfida and ask her if she is okay, saying not to worry and that Kretarund will be fine. ]

Niaou’li bent over Kretarund, and took a good look at his wounds. He was groaning but conscious, and Niaou’li tried to console him. “You’ll be fine, you’ll see. Just try not to move too much” , she said. She put her hands together, wrapped his cloths aside, closed her eyes and imagined all of his wounds closing up underneath her fingers, not leaving a mark.

[OOC: Niaou’li casts the ‘Cure light wounds’-spell to heal Kretarund.]

Then, Niaou’li left Kretarund and Belfida be for a while, and entered the Spores. She asked a Khord with a big nose, brownish garments and emerald green eyes where she could find the Khords that had been returned by the Hippogriffs. He instructed her to the room behind the bar, the one where she had left Firenze for a while this morning, which was crowded by Khords. Her companions were standing in the room too. She tried to get to the tables where the Khords were laid to rest. The children were wounded but awake, but the two adults were barely breathing. She touched them, one by one, attempting to heal them. She turned to Berodin. “Berodin, can you try to heal the children?” she asked him.

[OOC: Niaou’li casts the ‘Cure light wounds’-spell to heal the two adults.]

She healed the adult Khords and then returned upstairs, where she met Belfida and Kretarund. She turned to the latter, asking: “Kretarund, these creatures you have been talking about, are they Ankhegs? Big monstrous insects with a segmented, insectoid head, with a wide shell with two black eyes the size of our heads, two enormous mandibles and long slender legs with sharp claws, rising near mushrooms and spitting acid?”

(Assuming a confirming response)

Niaou’li continued: Then can you tell me what they were doing exactly? Do you know where they came from? Were they trying to protect something or maybe just themselves? Have you noticed anything weird, besides the Ankhegs?

Subject: To the spores!

Gyviar and Niaou’li had stopped chatting when Berodin had turned to the mushroom. Niaou’li witnessed Berodin talking to Phallaceus and listened carefully. The Ankhegs had come to the forest in large numbers? That’s peculiar.. She noticed all of the newborn white mushrooms popping up like hotcakes around the Herder of the Whitestems, out of its slime secretion. She scanned the bottom of her travel sack, looking for something to take some of the whitestem spores with them. She spooned up some of the goo with the hat of a small mushroom she found, took another one to put on top of it and tied them together with some rope to secure the goo inside. "You never know when this comes in handy" she thought.

Berodin had finished talking to Phallaceus and proposed to return to the Spores to check up with the Khords they saved earlier. Niaou’li ordered Firenze to follow the group and then she turned to Gyviar again. “Sorry for the interruption, but since you seem to be joining us, I will tell you what we are doing in the forest”. She told him about the wedding, the wounded little boy that appeared at the whirling stairs and how everybody noticed that all of the children were gone and how they formed a group. She told him about the screams they heard, about the dead Khords and how the group split in two to follow the two directions of the dotted tracks, about how they finally end up at the pool of black goo and about the stone hand that took away one of the Khords.

”Then the Ankheg appeared. Now you know our story” she said to Gyviar. “Did you see anything.. odd, peculiar, out of the ordinary.. when you were wandering the forest?”
[Assuming a response]

She then turned to Baldorf: “You really have been doing some cool things with those clouds. I really liked the way you went up the mushroom to save our brethren! But what were you trying to do the second time?” [Assuming a response]

She nonchalantly scratched one of the buds that came up in her hair and wondered out loud: Oh, should I do anything about this?” She turned to the group. ”By the way, can any one of you think of a reason why the Ankhegs all brought our fellow Khords to the mushroom? The old lady at Verbyn used to tell me they usually don’t cooperate.”

Nice post ^^

About what to do next:

I think we don't have enough information to go with the stoney hand lead, I figure we'll find out more about that in a later stage of the game. I think the same counts for the Ankheg lead, we'll probably find out more about why they came to the forest when we question the rescued Khords or when we continue following the trail we began with.

I say we return to the spores to question the Khords, they might be able to tell us what happened (if they are conscious again..)

Does anybody have a walkie-talkie to give to the stinkhorn? I actually don't know how to contact him from a distance..

To infinity and beyond! Or to the spores..

Subject: Not a lot, but sufficient though

Niaou’li was standing on the grey rocks, covered in dirt, wiping off the burning acid, completely stupefied. The enormous insect that had just been so furious had crashed to the ground: impotent, spiritless and overgrown by the mushroom-tree-thingy. The latter seemed to like its new habitat, according to its satisfied snarl and the blissful smile on its face.

Niaou’li took a look at her companions, who were a little worn out by the fight but all very much alive, and she secretly thanked Kith-Jora. Taking in the situation around her, she noticed the muzzle of her beloved Firenze, peeking out of a heavily wooded part of the mushroom forest. She called the deer by clicking her tongue to her palate while taking some food for the animal out of her travel sack. Firenze came closer and Niaou’li refocused on the situation. We must find out what has happened to our fellow Khords , she thought. We could ask the giant ‘shroom, it must be able to tell us something

But the mushroom was not going anywhere, so first things first. She had just healed the Khord that had mysteriously appeared in their middle and wondered where he came from, what he was doing in the middle of the territory of the Funghi, and most of all: what his intentions were. She approached the newcomer, saying: What brings a brave Khord like yourself to this godforsaken place?

OOC: I want to have a conversation with Gyviar: ask him where he came from, if he saw something that could help us solve the mystery of the missing children, etc. After that, we could turn to the giant mushroom and ask it what has happened to the Khords that were stuck to its stem. Maybe it even knows where the stone hand came from?

Subject: To the rescue

Looking at the glowing image in the Grent’yl book, Niaou’li felt more and more connected to the surrounding nature. Suddenly the image rose from the book, hovered towards the big white mushroom and transformed it into a gigantic tree with the face of a 200-year-old. It did not seem very pleased with the creature menacing them, and started speaking:

“For too long have you burrowed under my roots, you crawling bug. Now I will make sure my offspring will feast upon your flesh.”

Meanwhile Niaou’li noticed the monster being attacked by a bouncy.. Khord? Where did this guy come from? He was trying to smash the monster, but meanwhile was setting himself on fire. Niaou’li admired his enthusiasm and devotion, but he did not seem to be very handy. At the moment he seemed pretty severely injured and flames were all around him. ‘Someone really should help him’, she thought.

When the tree had finished speaking, Niaou’li felt something itching on her hair. She touched it, in need to scratch really bad, and then she felt some changes in her hair. She noticed several leathery leaves coming out of the buds that had formed at the strands of her hair. Her hair itself was thickening, like it was becoming a knot of branches.. ‘Now what should I do.. I’m turning into a tree!’ She though shocked. ‘I should act fast, ‘cause who knows how far this mutation will go!’

Unfortunately the sight started to blur because of a thick mist and she was afraid the monster would attack any minute now, penetrating its fangs into an innocent Khord.. Herself or one of her companions. Waiting for the giant tree to attack, she run towards their new companion, bend over him and started the healing process.

OOC: Niaou’li usues the Cure Serious Wounds spell to cure Gyviar.

Standing in the middle of the black pool of goo, close to the white ‘shroom but far away not to stick to it’s stem, Niaou’li noticed the appalling creature emerging from the pool. It’s eyes were huge, they were as black as the matter surrounding them, shining bright and reflecting their terrified faces. The ground quivered, making it difficult for Niaou’li to keep her balance. Then the trembling stopped, and she witnessed an animal as high as the tallest tree she ever saw, as broad as a small hut and as gruesome as the most gruesome thing she had ever seen, but twice.

It turned its head towards the Khords, keeping an eye on their every movement, looking as if it would attack any moment now. The druid turned to her companions, whispering “What should we do now..? We are trapped on this godforsaken island.. We could try to make the hippogriffs ferry us across the pool, but maybe the creature will attack us then.. Or we could let them attack this monster, of we could try to fight it.. Or we cou..” Suddenly she felt the heavy weight of the Grent’yl book in her travel sack.

She found the book years ago, when wandering the lowlands. It had been covered in dirt, and she accidentally noticed its binding reflecting the sunlight when a little breeze moved some of the dirt away. There had been something strange, something magical about that breeze. It had been like a female voice, whispering. Niaou’li hadn’t been sure if it was really a voice, until she became aware of the words. Standing at the pool of goo, looking in the eyes of this monstrosity, she remembered the song:

When one is in time of need

Call for help to the Grent’yl book

But make sure to remember

It’ll take something in return for its deed

Niaou’li slowly turned away from the beast, and started to reach into her travel sack. She took the big, leather bound book out of it, and started turning over some pages. Then, a breeze made the pages turn even faster, and all she could do was wait for something to happen..

Niaou’li was glad to be liberated from the weight of the young Khord, but was still worried about the others hanging down from the white stem of the mushroom. She heard Berodin commanding Crellin to use his magic, only then she noticed Baldorf falling down from a hazardous height. Nothing happened for a while, but then Crellin responded by casting a spell. Now what should I do.. Obviously I am not able to carry the Khords to the boulder because of their weight.. she mused.

She started focusing on her human form, imagining her giant paws to become toes, her talons to become long legs, her wings to become arms and hands with 5 fingers each, and her feathers to become smooth skin, covered in the gracious blue dress with waving layers of fabric she was wearing at the wedding. She was aware of a whirling feeling, like the one that started the wildshape initially, felt the warm rush again, imagined splendid rays of coloured light surrounding her and continuing to focus on her human appearance. The heavy whirling inside continued, and just before she saw her familiar self being reflected in the eyes of her companions she felt a little nauseous.

She turned to the cleric, saying ”Berodin, we should command the Hippogriffs to take the other Khords down as well, since we are not capable of doing so ourselves in a safe way” Then, turning to the others as well: We must hurry up, before this stone creature or something even worse returns from the darkness above!

OOC: If we manage to save all Khords and if they are conscious, we can take them with us. If not, or if they are not capable of joining us, we should order the hippogriffs to take them to the Spores to be taken care of. Meanwhile we can continue following the dotted tracks that led to the shroom and the goo in the first place. Firenze, who is still standing at the edge of the black pool but who can walk around it, will come with us.

Oh, and I really should shorten the party dress when we continue our quest

Subject: From above

After seeing the helpless Khord being gulped down by the enormous stone mass, Niaou’li was stunned by this strange spectacle. What had just happened? She tried to get closer to the ceiling of the cave, if it even was a cave. By investigating every possible crack or tear in the stone mass she tried to discover why the drama took place and if there were any signs of more Khords being swallowed.

After thoroughly examining the surface of the stone vault, she turned around and faced the earth again. She noticed two of her companions had found their way across the black goo and were standing near the giant mushroom, she spotted a foggy cloud hovering at its foot and she saw three big hippogriffs. She felt strangely connected to these creatures, these horse-kind animals with the heads of an eagle. Thinking she would be of better use down there than up here at the ceiling, she pointed her beak downwards and started flying to the damp soil.

She felt the wind blowing through her splendid blue and grey feathers when she was going down, focusing on the 4 powerless Khords that were stuck to the gigantic, coaxing fungus. There were four Khords dangling from the mushroom, she and her companions were in four aswell.. everybody should try to save 1 of them, in time for the hand of death itself to return.

While getting closer to the mushroom, she opened her claws, aiming for the Khord that was stuck the highest on the mushroom. If I try to grab a hold of this poor guy, maybe I can cut him loose and save his life! She tried to avoid the big washes of black goo that were coming down from the shroom’s hat and hoped for the best..
