Greetings to you all.

As many of you already know, I've found time in an ever increasingly short supply. It has finally gotten to the point that I can no longer devote time to the Inn. My apologies to those whose games I am involved in.

I have no idea when or if I'll be able to return, life tends to be a bit unpredictable like that after all. Until then, I wish you all well, and hope the gaming never stops.

One last thing. Like me, Skye as well has run out of time. She wished me to bid you all a fond farewell, and offer apologies to all those who have been gaming with her, and to whose games she had commited too. We are both sorry we can't devote the time to the Inn we want to.

Goodbye for now, and good gaming to you all.

Just so you know, the rope runner will be deliberately not singing with the crew (for reasons that will likely be revealed in time). He will enjoy the songs well enough, perhaps even do a sort of blade dance with his daggers if something's up beat enough. Just not sing or raise his voice for the songs.

I'd like to give a game update, but another mystery has now entered the scenario, and I don't have any solid direction to go off of. So, once you guys decide on a course of action, I'll give you the update accordingly.

Topic: Tales from the Smuggler's Moon
Subject: Vleryn

Smuggler's Moon, Morning of the 19th of Chad

He had been hearing of this strange woman for days. The scuttlebutt among the crew was that she was something special, or at least thought she was. The rope runner had seen her many times from above, as he raced through the rigging of the masts, but this time was different.

He saw the woman the captain had brought back talking to Willow, and his curiosity grew with each passing moment. But he had things to take care of before the ship anchored so the intriguing Lady would have to wait for now.

The ropes of the rigging hummed and sang as Vleryn ran across them, as sure footed as if he were on dry land. He checked and re-checked every knot, every tie off and the sturdiness of every rope as he prepped the rigging of the Smuggler's Moon for port. He would not be going ashore right away. Vleryn had been up most of the night sitting on the top of the mast, lost in the sound and sights of the waves and watching the stars. If he was to enjoy this port he would need to sleep at some point.

______________________________________________________________

Smuggler's Moon, Early Afternoon of the 19th of Chad

They had been anchored for a while it seemed, but no one had woken him. Vleryn smiled at the thought. Apparently the crew had finally learned not to come near him while he slept. The last man that did almost recieved a second smile across his throat. Some lessons are learned the hard way it seemed.

As he rolled out of his cot the gypsy man considered his mood for the day. Hmm... mysterious and dangerous... I think black would likely fit.

His chest was beside those of many of the other crewmen despite his position as leader of the boarding party, a fact that irked him more than a little despite understanding the necessity and lack of space on the ship. He dressed himself in what was necessary aboard ship and went up to the deck, clad in black cotton breeches and little else.

Where is she I wonder. Likely already in Freeport, or packing for her trip. he thought with a smirk.

His gaze was drawn beyond the deck of the Smuggler's Moon to the sea, to the sky, and to the city. Like so many of the crew, this city had been where he found the ship, though at that time it was still called Isabella.

__________________________________________________________________
Somewhere in Freeport months before
The tavern was crowded, not a good thing given Vleryn's stormy mood that evening. He was stuck here, with no obvious way to continue his journey or make his riches. He had tried to sign up with many a vessel in the past weeks, but his gypsy blood did little to encourage the captains. They thought him a thief and a liar. While it may be true that he had stolen more than his fair share of trinkets in his time in Freeport, he was not a liar. And since he had not yet been caught or even implicated in the thefts, despite several flights from city guards running and soaring across the rooftops of Freeport.

So when three sailors approached his table, their cocky grins aching for a fist to shatter them, Vleryn smiled.

"We don't want your kind in our bar." The biggest of them said.

"Sorry to say, but the barkeep o'er there decides who stays and who goes, not some barnacles that washed in from the sea this morning."

Apparently they took offense to the comment... who knows why that might have been... One came at him from his left, trying to tackle him to the ground, but the gypsy was too quick. He spun to his left and back, extending his arm as he twisted to backhand the sailor on the back of his head, hard enough to send him into the second of his assailants as he circled around to Vleryn's other side. They were up quickly, the blow having done no real damage other than sending them both sprawling.

A sly grin grew on the gypsy's face as they came at him again. He leaped up on the table with such grace that the mug of mead he had been drinking hardly shifted. From this position he noticed that there were a number of patrons looking on with great amusement at the three men trying to get hold of the agile gypsy. His mood shifted at that and a true smile showed on his face. He began to enjoy the show he was giving them.

Unfortunately, he didn't have much time to consider that as the two men behind him upended the table he stood on. Reflexively he leaped towards the third man, the largest of the three, his leg lashing out as he flew by connecting firmly wih the man's jaw. Vleryn hit the floor and rolled, coming quickly back to his feet, facing the three assailants, one with blood dripping from a shattered nose. His smile grew wider.

The glint of metal in the fire light told him that the game was over. He had embarassed these men enough and now things had gotten serious. The large man rushed him, the blade of a rapier clear of its scabbard and poised to impale him. In a flurry of blindingly fast movement, the gypsy sent two of his own blades slicing through the air, each barely missing the sides of the large man's head as he rushed blindly in. The thrust of the rapier came predictable at his chest, seemingly clumsy and slow compared to the speed and grace of the gypsy thief. He rolled to the outside of the blade, spinning in behind the man, who froze instantly when the sharp prick of a metal blade cut into his throat ever so slightly.

Ony then could the crowd turn their attention to the other two men, each of which had their clothing stapled to the tavern wall by one of the gypsy's blades.

Vleryn held his position for seconds that seemed like an eternity before removing his blade and pushing the man to the floor. When he nodded towards the door the three men were more than happy to oblige, though they would not soon forget the embarassment. Vleryn found himself attached to a ship that very same evening.

Smuggler's Moon, Early Afternoon of the 19th of Chad

As he made one last run across the rigging, checking everyone one final time he noticed something odd off the side of the ship. The woman that captain had taken aboard was... scraping the hull.

Never expected to see that. Perhaps this girl is more worthwhile than I thought. If that were the case he might as well stop by and say hello.

Grapping one of the tied off ropes from the mast he quickly tangled himself in it and lowered himself towards the water in a manner that almost appeared spider-like. When he was close enough to not have to shout, but far enough so that he wouldn't frighten the girl (or so he thought) he spoke to her for the first time.

"'ello my Lady. Never thought I'd see one so proud as you scrapping crap off the bottom of the Captain's pride. I'm sure she appreciates it though. Care for a hand?"

Without waiting for an answer Vleryn lowered himself a bit further, pulled a dagger seemingly from nowhere, and began scrapping away.

Well, since my character tends to keep to himself a bit, unless he has gotten a few drinks in him, I'm going to delay posting it for a bit. Consider this posting a placeholder. As he talks about himself or displays his abilities, knowledge, and whatever else, it will appear here.

Name: Vleryn

Age: late twenties

Appearance: Rugged, tanned man with black hair kept short, yet only roughly maintained. He is a well-muscled individual, with a number of small scars on his chest and arms.

Distinguishing Marks: A tattoo of a black rose coiled around a dagger, the flower blooming at the hilt on the inside of his left forearm.

Attire: Vleryn dresses true to his heritage. Depending on his mood however, he may dress in the colorful garb normally associated with gypsy people, or various shades of browns of blacks and grays. The style of his clothing seldom changes however, and he always seems to have daggers hiden away somewhere.

Possessions:

History: Vleryn is a gypsy from one of the many wandering clans. He came to the city in search of adventure and fortune, but no captain would accept a worthless gypsy to his crew. He became a street rat and a thief to survive in the city. None knew his identity, but he had experienced more than a few roof top chases with the city guards, dodging rifle fire as he ran and lept from building to building.

He became a part of the crew when his skills were finaly noticed in a tavern brawl that turn sour (as detailed in the game post).

Not much else is known of the rope runner, but the crew have learned not to wake him when he sleeps, or at least to do it with a long pole. The last man to attempt to wake him by touch had a knife to his throat before he could blink.

With a nod the little one moved to the lock, checking as always for any sign of a trap that might hurt him or the woman he had chosen to protect.

Finding none he went to work on the lock with all haste, trying to tune out the pleads of those inside so he could focus on the delicate tumblers.

The halfling stares after the dangerous mercenary for a few moments, trying to make sure that he wouldn't return to stab them all in the back.

He spun around, his eyes searching Kaimelle for any measure of wounds. "Are you alright my Lady?"

The adrenalin slowly faded, yet he knew they were not yet safe. After waiting for an answer he sheathed his dagger and turned to the rest of the group.

"Heal him if you can. If not, I say we leave him behind. We are on the run. Kaimelle and I cannot support his weight, and if we face another skilled opponent such as he, we can't afford to have our other warriors burdened by such a load. You may not even have time to drop him before you find a sword in your gizzard."

The little halfling thinks for another moment.

"Yes, we must heal him if we can, and bind his wounds as well as possible. If he cannot stand, we will have to trust in his substantial constitution to see him through."

The fire in the center of the room burned slowly, illuminating the entirety of the chamber, without seeming to consume much of the substance that fueled it.

It was impossible to tell how much time had past as Heironymus and Quarlin studied the doors. Fatigue was setting in, seeping deep into the bones of the wounded rogue, and the others were beginning to feel it as well.

With a watch rotation discussed and set the group bedded down for a much needed rest. Muscles ached from the long climb, as well as the repaired wounds they had suffered in their battle with the winged creatures.

_________________________________________________________________
Middle of the rest cycle - Quarlin's watch
When Quarlin awoke for his watch he felt drawn to the symbols of the doors, yet intent on hiding his urge to study. He managed to control himself long enough to hear the soft snores of Heironymus (who had taken the first watch) before being consumed by the strange symbols.

Some time Raina woke to the sound of a sudden burst of sound as the fire crackled loudly, settling slightly on the still burning substance. It was strange... she felt well rested, and so must have slept long enough. Shouldn't it have been her watch by now?

She looked around to see Quarlin crouched by one of the doors (Path of Power for easy reference) with his eyes locked on the strange, interweaving symbols. He didn't move, or even blink as she shifted in her bedroll, preparing to get up and get ready for her watch. He just... stared blankly at the door.

OOC: Sorry about the delay in the update. Currently Heironymus is sleeping, Raina has just awoken and Quarlin is... well there. The fire doesn't seem to be consuming any fuel at all, yet the fuel has shifted since it was lit. The doors have not been opened or moved.

Sorry I haven't been around the Inn as much as I usually am. GenCon is getting really close and I've been scrambling to get everything done.

The good news is I've got almost everything set. I finished my second adventure entitled Claws of Pelazin (which will be for sale on the website and at GenCon once GenCon begins) giving me the 2 adventures, the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting hardcover book, 40 art prints, and a bunch of book marks featuring 4 of the color art pieces from the Realms of Twilight world.

Also, I just got a review of the campaign setting by Roleplayers Chronicle. Check it out... I'd make this a link but I can't find where it tells me how to do it...:

The rain pours down upon the band of adventurers, caught in the storm high above the lands they came from. Lightning pierces the sky again and again in an entrancing show of the storm's power. Deafening thunder shakes the very stone of the mountain side.

The black storm clouds block the light of the moons above, so that only as the lightning flashes can the party see clearly. The entrance into the cliff face Hieronymus had found seems the only escape from the storm that has seemed to take on a life of its own... and more than one of the adventurers had a feeling that it's power had not yet reached its peak.

From the downpour the part, guided by a wizard whose vision was not limited by such things as light and dark. They moved slowly, with hands outstretched feeling their way through a passageway of well maintained and finely cut stone. The minutes pass like hours as the group struggles through the dark, but eventually those blinded by the darkness can feel the oppressive walls and ceiling of the passage way lift.

To the umbral, the room appears to be an entry way or foyer of sorts. The room is sized to hold a sizeable group, being approximately forty feet on a side. In the center, beneath what looks to be a natural chimney, is a large fire pit stocked not with wood, but with a strange sort of black stone reselmbing a blend of charcoal and peat.

One door each can be seen on each wall barring the one the party entered through. The doors themselves are constructed of a strange combination of iron, brass and stone blended into intricate swirling patterns that cause a slight dizzying effect if one focuses on them too long.

There are no visible locks or bars on any of the doors.

Got the post up this morning. Sorry if it detracts from the smartest course of action. The halfling's curiosity and the challenge presented by a crypt were just a bit too much of a temptation for him despite the urgency of the situation.

If he doesn't find a mechanism that will open the sarcophagus in his brief search he will mark it down in his head for later exploration and rush after the group as silently as possible.

If the group leaves him (as would be the smart thing) he'll light another sun rod and finish his examinations. If the barricade is broken and they approach, he intends to throw the sunrod over behind one of the other coffins and sprint for the door, dodging between any potential assailants and disappear prior to following down the other path.

Maybe if I just take a little peek...

The others had been discussing running the other way... but the little Raslan's curiosity was running particularly high.

Despite his friends decision, he moved towards the central sarcophagus his sharp senses searching for trip wires and traps the whole way.

"You guys go ahead, I'll follow behind momentarily. There's just something I want to check..."

The little one stepped catiously up to the stone remnant of the dead that seemed to be the focus of this chamber. Realizing that their pursuit would not be far behind, he searched quickly for any sort of latch or way to open the ornate coffin, for he knew his own strength would not be enough.

(If the party leaves he will strike another sunrod and finish his quick examinations.)

"Here Lady elf." The raslan says as he tosses a sunrod to her. "I don't suggest you lead the way, but I shouldn't be the one carrying the light. I'm much more effective on the fringes."

He stops himself for a moment, looking at the battered elf, his anger rising within him as memories of his own people being tormented and beaten for the crime of being a raslan... her tormentors had done much the same to this beautiful creature... he would repay the injustice if he had the chance... but for now he had to be more concerned about her safety and the lives of the others that had accompanied him here.

In a voice much darker than the others had yet heard come from the small rogue. "Let's get her out of here, and find the rest of them."
