Topic: Question of the Week
Subject: . . .and then

Regardless of choice, both Soak and um (Not-Soak?) need the appropriate scheme of adjustments and other considerations to balance the gameplay. Again, going back to the well, I'm talking about Check Penalties, Max Dex/Agility Bonus and the like. If armour was only a number, you'd have Thieves wearing full plate, dogs and cats living together. . .mass hysteria.

Topic: Question of the Week
Subject: Hmm.

For me, it depends on the style of combat involved. Certainly in a "Space Marine" RPG wherein all deployed weapons could inflict crippling or lethal damage, the "Soak" school of thought makes more sense, especially if the damage reduction value itself reduces with successive hits to reflect damage to the armour itself. Otherwise, say in a more traditional high-fantasy game, the first one (and the one I'm much more familiar with) makes sense to use.

. . .that I found both original and new versions on home video. The original presentation's video could have been a little cleaner, maybe, (just guessing as to current restorative technologies) but wow, what a tiny complaint in the face of being able to watch it anytime now, and for the first time in longer than I care to recall.

Hearing that Seth MacFarlane was attached to the new project gave me misgivings and trepidation, but as the series got such wonderful reviews it became clear that this revisiting was in perfect hands.

A "Magic School Bus" for adults, you say? Yeah, to a degree but the message is multigenerational and presented in such an articulate and accessible fashion that entire families can enjoy and digest, which I recall Neil expressed at the Comic-Con panel was a major goal for the tone of the series.

Oh, and Astrid. . .you're NOT a dork (that word has some negative connotations for me)! YOU. . .are an Explorer, a Questioner who is not dismayed but enchanted when answers lead only to more questions.

It was really entertaining and enlightening to read of your hands-on experience with the system, Ody! I'm also thankful that 5.0/D&D Next appears to resonate with so many of our roleplaying Old Guard here.

Fingers crossed for the system in general, and I look forward to reading your next update with it, Odyson!

Just finished Season Four (on dvd, no cable) last weekend. Terminus is (my theory) populated by CANNIBALS which does tie into the comic book (fairly early on, third or fourth hardback edition). Glad to see this touched on by the tv show, and to see Denise Crosby as the creepy "Welcome Wagon" person!

Very nice nod to Indiana Jones with the last-second snatching o' the hat there! That's one goofy-looking remote in Bromern's hand--a cross between a Nintendo Wii controller and a sonic screwdriver!

Brilliant as usual, guys--thanks so much!

Well, now it makes sense from a storytelling point why Otis and Shane went to the school for supplies. As none of this occurred in the comics it was terra incognito for me. Excellent book-ending of the episode there with Shane shaving his head, eyes all a-crazy in the foggy mirror.

This episode seemed to deal a lot with faith. Glenn praying for the first time in his life, Andrea's exchange with Daryl in the woods near the hanging Zombie, Lori's personal crisis with Carl's life in such uncertainty. When nearly everything you once held dear--or took for granted--is gone, what else do you turn to?

Tann, had you read the comics, you'd know by now Rick has had his share of dark moments, actions he's taken that were unthinkable even under the circumstances (remember the cannibal hunters? Yeah, Rick made that happen). Even children aren't spared from the brutality around them, that's just how much this horrifying new world changes people. I'm explaining, not justifying here. I do think that this is what pushes Shane past the point of no return. He's never had that rigid moral code that Rick desperately clings to (so far in the show at least). I don't believe Shane will act out against his group, but anyone else who even slightly puts our survivors in jeopardy. . .Shane will just have at them because in his mind it simply needs to be done. He isn't a peace officer anymore and doesn't claim to be. Right or wrong (by our relatively comfy standards) he'll do whatever he feels he has to.

So, what's in the well? Maybe I should ask WHO'S in the well? I sure hope they're getting water from somewhere else. . .

The strip led me down the same path until the end.

Great filler strip, Roel! The same thing happened in my game group of many years past, except the married lady in question was really cool about it--our characters ended up married at the end of the campaign.

Just wonderful work to tide us over until the regular strip resumes! I think this really showcases so many of your strengths as an artist. . .the gentle highlights in Faustus' hair, the folds in his--the heck is that?--demi-ascot and tunic. I could even feel the plushness of the upholstery in the chair (which looks like it's about to give our youthful squire a much-needed hug)!

We discussed this earlier, so I know your tapestry wasn't meant to look like My Little Pony. Won't be able to shake the image out of my head, regardless. Great stuff, Jing!!

What an awesome beginning to the season! Just finished watching the premiere (had to tape it, I work nights) but it was pretty spectacular! I friggin' hated that Rick did not divulge what Edwin Jenner (the scientist from the CDC, if you need a refresher) whispered to him at the end of last season--he was SO close to doing so, too!

I've read the first five hardcovers of the graphic novel, and it's interesting to see how the storylines diverge. As far as the last scene in the TV episode, even though I've seen it happen in the comic books, I was still caught as off-guard when it occurred as I was in the book. As soon as I saw that deer I should have put 2 and 2 together, but nooooo. . .

I like the TV version of Carol SO much more now. Comic book Carol was just way too creepy. So, I guess we'll see a farm in our survivor's near future then? And then. . .Woodbury. That was just too messed up in the comic book!

Can't wait to hear what the rest of you thought!
