Briar Underfoort
Redwyrms training yard
Week 1-Monday Afternoon

Ready to get his training underway, Briar stepps over to the vacant shelves and places his pack there. To prepare, Briar quickly pulls his leathers out. Doning his armor, he placed the rest his travel outfit in his pack and closed it up.

Just as he turned to join the rest of the group, everything went black. Making a quick note to himself, 'Here we go!' He heard Shadowbane take the role as leader of the group and give everyone fighting positions. Beings it was his first day here and really didn't know what to expect, Briar had no qualms about the situation at hand. The older student said he needed to jump into the middle ranks, thats what he did.

Briar took a dive to the middle where he had been told to get. Tumbling up to his feet in his best fighting stance sling in his right hand and punch dagger on the left, he looked around sizing up the area as he saw it. His first thought, was, 'What kind of beast are these?' He had very little actual combat training. Most of his liffe had been spent gather information and espionage, not actual fighting. In the past the goal had always been get in, get out, avoid contact, that was all about to change.

Briar made a quick decision, sling was in hand use it. Locating the first beast, he took aim and let it sling bullet fly(1d3+3). As these things appoarched, he safely tucked away his sling and donned the other punch dagger. Now armed with one on each hand, Briar tried to determine his best course of action. Hoping the bodies were like most he had encountered, he decided that they can't fight very well if the can't stand.

Briar tried to use his rogue abilities to hide in hopes of gaining a surprise attack to the first one he encounters. If this happens, he is using his size against them and attacking their Akiles Tendons. He knew form past encounters that, if someone's Akiles Tendon was cut the entire calf muscle will snapped into the back of the knee. The pain of this will stopped someone in their tracks and it takes magical healing to repair.

(Hide +8, sneak attack called shot to Akiles Tendon)

When then other two half-orcs stood up, Briar started laughing so hard he was cackling. Between outbursts of laughter and pointing at the half-orcs, he could only say, " It takes three of you to steal a halfling's food and you still didn't get it!"

As he waited for a response from the camp, Guillotine noticed the silence that had fallen over the woods. This caused an uneasy feeling to settle over him as he scanned to woods again for the source of the silence.

A man's voice called back to him, “Step Forth And Make Your Self Known.” Followed by a female's voice, “You may approach traveler we mean you no harm, as I sense no evil from you I expect that you mean us no harm in return. Step forward so we may see you, as you are clearly not elven from your accent, an accent I have only heard once before..” So, Guillotine approached the small camp. He stopped at the edge of their camp, as to allow the people within the camp to get a good look at their new visitor. And to give himself a moment to see who he was approaching as well.

He was way bigger than anyone else in this camp. His neck alone was near the size of most men's thighs. The mere size of his yellow and white robe seemed to brighten the camp. The image of the golden outstretched hand upon his chest was the symbol of Falloes to whom he now served. He had only two weapons to be seen. The huge iron bow slung across his back and an large ornamented wooden staff in his left hand. His seven foot staff barely reached the height of his shoulders. There was not very trees in this forest that would be able to hide the width of the one standing on the edge of their camp. This gentle giant standing before them was every bit of eight feet tall and 450 lbs of muscle covered in a rare brindle fur unique to the Demon's Gate Minotaur. Resting on his blood ivory horns was a golden full face helm built for him.

"I mean no harm to anyone here. My Lord Falloes has lead me this night as to do his will and assist those in need. I offer help in his service to the wounded hunter that I have followed to this place." stated the minotaur. Sniffing the air, he looked at the wounded huntress, only to have his attention immediately stolen from the wounded and given to Mivara.

Subject: Following The Signs

Guillotine walked through woods making mental notes of landmarks that shouldn't be changing anytime soon. He wanted to return to the basement in the future. He was lost in his own thoughts when the scene before him caught his eye or rather his horn. For days now he had been traveling through an old forest, but this section was young.

Gone were the tall trees, to be replaced by these younger trees. He had to watch himself under these trees as not to hook his horns on their limbs. They were way shorter than the earlier. Maybe the result of a fire a few years prior. The only other reason he could think of off hand was someone planted them. He stopped and crouched low into the under brush to conceal himself as he studied the woods in front of him. In just a few minutes he decided that someone was caring for this woods. The wilder underbrush was absent under these younger trees and the almost seemed equally spaced and in rows like a tree farm. This told him one thing up front to worried him, humans.

He started back tracking as to avoid the human contact. Before long his was back in the old woods and a little more at ease. Then a gentle breeze through the trees told him of a sign that put him back on edge. The smell of blood was in the air and lots of it. It wasn't longer before he found its source. A woodland rhino had been killed and butchered here. He started scanning the forest for any signs of life. If he smelled the blood, it wouldn't be long before the scavengers and predators would too. Once he was convinced it was't the bait for a trap and nothing else was around yet, he checked out the kill. This confused him some. Why would this hunting party, take on a beast like this if they were going to leave so much behind. He stared reading the tracks on the ground for his answer.

Now he thought he had answer, it looked like a couple of elves and their big cat were running thru the woods and were attacked by the beast. But that's where he lost the cat, it seemed to have vanished. It came into the fight but didn't leave and unless it was on the drag. He cut a large section of meat into bite sized pieces from what was left of the carcass. From the looks of their trail, one of the elves was wounded pretty good. Hopefully they did try to pack that drag very far cause it was digging a deep trench with the weight on it. One would be wounded and the other worn out leaving the somewhat defenseless compared to what a couple of elves in the woods could do to their victims should they chose to.

He would have to give admit, this elf drug their drag a lot farther than he thought it would, but the other one needed help. He could guess that much, just by the tracks it left behind. The tracks were there. No elf he knew of would left enough tracks in the woods to be followed very far at all. Unless they wanted someone to follow them. Once again, he was pondering if he were walking into a trap again today. Taking the last piece of meat into his mouth, he smelled it. Smoke, the smell of cooking on a campfire. Trap or not, he assumed these elves knew he was there being this close to an elven camp. They were good, he hadn't smelled them or seen them anywhere, but this were elves in their natural environment. What else could anyone expect?

He was on their turf now, might as well be polite. Maybe He would live through this. Rude, he was dead were he stood. Only two choices he had as he saw it. Taking a deep breath and in the best elven his thick accent would allow, " Merry meet in the camp, may a single traveler approach!"

Subject: A New Day Hath Begun

After a few hours of ceaseless chanting, Guillotine appoached the painting of the little girl. Although he had successfully helped a few souls to their final resting places, this one intriged him. She wasn't a lost soul, but an abandoned memory of a child who suffered great pains of the heart. Her heart unable, or unwilling, to face the pain that happened to her here had cast out the memory that had taken place inside these walls. This made him wonder what had happened here to cause her unbearable pains. He still remembered the events of his own childhood.

The day the slavers came and slaughtered his village was forever burned into his memory. As too, where the memories of years of beatings and lashes he received simply because he had not learned their language yet. The years of being chained to the ships oars were all the reasons that he followed the path he had been given the chance to follow. He had prayed to ever god he ever heard of for help, but it had been Falloes who answered his prayers that fateful day and sent him his savior from slavery.

As the morning sun chased away the darkness of night, the cleric of Falloes to emerged from the basement to began a new day. The sounds of the forest had returned in the absence of the dragon. Where it had gone, he did not know, nor at this time did he care. It wasn't here anymore. His yellow and white robes seemed to shine this morning accenting the golden outstretched hand upon his chest. In the main room, he prepared to meet the day straightening his robes and gear. He uttered his daily morning prayer, " My Lord Falloes, give me your guidance to know where I am needed and the wisdom to see what it is that needs to be done by your divine grace, I pray to thee."

He dunked through the entrance to the inn once again and started walking in the direction he felt he needed to go this morning. He after a short distance, he stopped at an old apple tree burdened under its yield of fruit. He offered a blessing over the tree and poured a ring of water around its trunk as an exchange to the fruit he gathered from it. Seeing the abundance of fruit, he gathered a little more than he normally would have in hopes of getting a chance to sundry what was not eaten for later use.

Briar Underfoot
Main Corridor
Week 1 - Monday Afternoon

When Shadowborne spun and made his comment to the halfling about many here that could put a halfling under their boot, Briar's imagination began to race.

Without another word, Shadowborne turns back around and continues down the hallway. After a few moments, he speaks again.

"Tann'Talas will teach you all you need to know of the martial arts, goblin. Though he does tend to go a too easy on beginners."

Briar got a concerned look on his face, "They teach giants here as well? Guess I need to work on defending myself against them."

He seemed to be lost in thought now. He began muttering to himself under his breath, something about finding a spiked helmet so they don't complete step down if he gets stepped on.

Briar Underfoot
Director's Office
Week 1 - Monday Early Afternoon

Skipping around the chairs, He stopped in his tracks when The Professor started speaking to him. Immediately facing her with his head held down as if it was a drilled response from years harsh treatment.

He is three foot two and dressed in earth toned clothing. His black hair is pulled back in a tight ponytail. The tail of which is in the form of several braids dropping to the top of his backpack.

When he was sure she was done speaking for the moment, he replied back to her,"Sneaking up on people? I didn't mean to sneak up, but I thought I was invited. The letter I got said to come to Professor O'Leary's office upon arrival. And I did." With that out the door he went, not letting it close on him.

Once in the hall, he said,"This place is hugh. Glad your giving tours. I would take a while to find what secrets lie in these walls. So, which one needs help? and which one is enamored?"

Subject: Now What

He had been traveling through the woods for days now. Exhausted, he had laid down next to a fallen tree for cover to get a few hours of shut eye before continuing on his way. He covered himself with his blanket to help hide him while he slept.
Sometime through the night, he was awoken by the sounds of hugh wings. He jumped up and quickly gathered himself. As he watched the dragon continue south, he finished packing everthing back up into his pack. He knew he would be needed where ever this beast decided to land. Using his might, he restrang his iron bow to make it ready for service. Slipping his quiver/pack back to its usual place, hepicked up his helm and said his prayer to start the day and then slipped it back on to hide his true form from the rest of the world.
He was quickly making his way through the woods when him thought he heard the sound of screaming. Under his helm, his wasn't sure it had obscurred distant sounds in the past. When he saw the dragon quickly change course, he guessed he had been right. He too changed direction and started running to the east.
After a short distance through the forest, he could only watch as the dragon swooped in over an old building. Then it climbed back up and began stocking its prey from above. He eased himself next to the wall of inn and he prepare his attack on the dragon. He knew his best shot was going to be when it swooped back in on its next attack. He nocked an arrow and waited. From the sound of the people instead this building, they needed his assistance with this beast.
As his calmed himself to make his shot, the sound of his own heart racing in his ears gave way to the sound of people fleeing into the basement. A moment later, it was him and the dragon left here as the people instead obviously had left by secret means. He eased himself around the building to to door on the far side. He entered the building and went to the basement. The smell of fear within this room was relentless. It almost hid that the scent of that one female that caught his attention, it was that most exotic scent he ever smelled. Tracking her scent, he entered the hidden tunnel. It wasn't long before he was forced to give up this chase. The passageway got to the point it was to small for him to follow anymore.
He was forced to turn back to the dragon again. The paintings on the basement walls were the first thing to seize his attention this time. Although the scent of thhe people that had fled was dissapating, the smell of fear was still here. His stomach churned as he watched these paintings, oblivious to the dragon above. The fear was emminating from these paintings. Following a hugh bellow of a warcry to clear himself of the effect these paintings were having on him, he began to bless and exocise this place to free these souls.

Guess the thing to do would be introduce myself, but first I would to say This looks like a great site. Nice layout and great gaming atmosphere!

Guess I'm old school, haven't had a group to role play with really for 10yrs. I have done some freeform at another site for a couple of years though. I haven't played under any rules except AD&D and 2ndE. Looking forward to joining the Innmates!
