Welcome to The Inn.
Tiamat is right, almost any kind of diversion can be found here. One of the reasons I don't do much so far. If I let myself, I'd never get my homework done (and right now, I still need to debug the HTML/CSS pages I have to submit today...)

Topic: Hi Subject: poiu
Welcome to the Inn Wiz. I'm still a noob here myself, and still an occasional poster. Eventually, I'll find myself a game to join though.

Topic: Required Viewing: A discussion of films Subject: xzcvb
I've seen all except 11 and 20 from the original list, although NetFlix has them all, but neither seem interesting to me, so I probably won't bother. It was nice to find that Hackers is available on streaming. I may sit and watch that Monday after class. I haven't seen that in years.
That, and I've seen every other movie mentioned so far.
I'm with Shades331 on this overall though. It's not the movies themselves, but the types of movies in question.
Besides, nobody tells me if I'm a geek or not...

Topic: What was your favorite table top rpg character ? Subject: Waiting to see what happens.
Until I know how much time I can dedicate to a game, I'm not willing to start up in another game. I may have to change my regular weekly tabletop game as it is due to maybe having to get up at O-my-gawd O'clock in the morning on Mondays for the new job.
We'll see. I'd like to get in on one though.

Topic: What was your favorite table top rpg character ? Subject: Hmmmm....
Probably my favorite table-top character was my original Dwarven Fighter. He started out under the basic D&D rules and was migrated to 2nd Edition. He had gone through some bizarre modules including a module called Castle Amber (basic) where he had massive stat changes done to him, all to his benefit.
Later in life, after the transfer to 2nd edition, he acquired a set of Mithril Plate Mail and a Mithril shield (+4 each) and a +4 throwing Axe that returned when thrown and if under the Moon and Stars (ie: not underground, or under a cloudy sky) would strike 2 targets before returning.
I had to stop collecting magic items for him, because he was overpowered for a long time because of all this. Eventually he balanced out with the rest of equal level parties, but he was a tank, pure and simple. Give him something to fight, and he'd be the first one to wade in. He was a blast to play.
I actually wish I could get him back into a game again, but I DM most of the time...

Topic: Long time listener, first time caller Subject: Welcome
Congratulations on being clean.
I could come out now and say Hi, My Name is Eric, and I'm a WoW player...
However, in spite of my best friend and brother and my Wife pestering me, I make sure I'm done with other, more important stuff before I sit down and get mindless with WoW. That's the reason I only have 1 level 80 to date.
Anyway, welcome from one newbie inmate to another.

Welcome Whatever you like. Boy, that's a mouthful, how about I just call you Hime?
I'm fairly new here too, but damn, 'yall have gotten me thinking about Cinnabuns, and I'm not suppose to eat 'em.
Enjoy them quick, before I loose my self-control.

Topic: D&D Annoyances Subject: Memorized Spells
I agree with Brianna with the spell system. A mage casts a fireball, and suddenly doesn't know how to do it? Come on!
I made up a spell-point system for casters, both mage and cleric and given both the ability to use these points in ways other than just casting spells from the book. Mages can invest a few points in a warding circle for example. They sleep better because they are woken up when something crosses that circle. Clerics have a healing/curing ritual they can use outside of combat to heal a greater degree of damage than strict book spells allow.
It makes the game much more flexible.

Topic: No Game Tonight?! What now??? Subject: Board Games!
The people I play and hang out with (different people) all like to board game, so it's never difficult to find something to do, providing someone brought something besides his or her D&D stuff. Luckily, we know well ahead of time and can plan accordingly.
Our current favorite is Dominion (and all it's expansions).

Topic: Favorite Magic Item Subject: Hmmmm....
My favorite was a set that came from a Middle Earth Role Playing module called Moria. (yes, that was an exciting place...)
The set was Dwarven Plate and Shield, both made from Mithril. Non-magical, but +4 for each piece. Gave my Dwarf a -6 AC. Talk about a tank.

Topic: So who was your first? Subject: Younglings...
I graduated high-school in '82...
Personally, I cannot remember very many actual tabletop characters dying. The first I do remember was a LARP character.
He was a mage (whom I never really liked, his personality just wasn't what I wanted and never could change for some reason). Anyway, I had picked up a crocked magic item that did a blast (a bit more powerful version of a fireball) for 40 points of damage. About 1/3 more points than I had total. The crock was it had no range. I was center of the blast.
The cool thing was, and you could never duplicate this via tabletop, the looks on the faces of those playing the bad guys when I blew up, taking them with me.
The first D&D character I can think of was a Dwarven Paladin who distracted a dragon so the rest of the party could escape. Worthy sacrifices, both.

My tabletop group still plays 2nd Edition. I never did try 3rd, and really haven't been able to get into 4th (too much like WoW)

Topic: I guess it's time... Subject: Well...
I very well may join one, but probably not more than that. Assuming my job application (or more likely, the govt security check they are doing on me) goes well, I'll be going back to work full-time in a couple of weeks, that coupled with school, my own personal web project, and my own AD&D tabletop game makes for a busy schedule.
Once I know how the work schedule is going to go, I may consider it, but I won't join one unless I know I can keep up.
I've tried running online games myself but only to have them wind down because of people vanishing from the face of the web, and I know how annoying it can be for both players and the GM.
Wow.... Where did that soapbox come from? *steps down&*

If you like puns, Spider Robinson is one of the best writers to read.
Well, truth to tell, he's one of the best authors in the business anyway, I think.

t_catt1, you're the reason I finally posted. You actually welcomed me (twice) by PM after I joined.
Meridith, go ahead and smite the puns, I'll applaud them. I love puns. Or, to quote (or more likely, paraphrase) Spider Robinson:
"The beauty of a pun is in the Oy of the beholder"
Takes a pull on his Froth-n-Slosh, makes a face and coughs a bit... "smooth!"

I registered a while back, but haven't posted at all, so I guess it's time to say hello.
*waves* Hello!
I'm a fairly new Loaded Dice and Old Wizard reader, as well as a (very) long-time AD&D player (yes, 2nd edition) as well as a student and husband.
Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. I may answer.
