Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA
Subject: It's up!

Just a little diddy to keep things moving.

I figured it was a fifty-fifty chance as to whether or not Tess stayed in the shuttle. Shuttle won out, which is probably a good thing, since Tess would have, upon seeing the compression coil missing, marched right out of the ship to those caves to go rough up whoever took it.

Girl would have been done playing, so yay for staying put?

Also: Al~ What is this remote switch on multipan that you mentioned Tess was rigging up?

Subject: Tess ~ It's cool. I'll stay here.

LV-426, Bridge, Rocinante, 9:20 am PT

Tess was setting up a remote switch in the cockpit when the scanner went off again. Whatever yi dwei da buen chuo roh had tried to remote signal was doing it again. The signal wouldn’t get through; once jammed, Tess had rigged it so it would keep that line scrambled. Whoever it was didn’t try for very long; Tess wasn’t able to pin down a location, but knew that it hadn’t come from inside the ship. They had probably gone down with the rest of the passengers to the cave.

On her way to the shuttle, Tess swung into her room to grab her rifle and harness.

No sense in not havin’ a little preparation.

By the time she had reached the shuttle, Wyatt was already in the pilot’s seat firing up the engines. It was, after all, his boat, but she regretted not being there before him. She flung herself into one of the passenger seats. Tess remained quiet, but fidgeted horribly. It never sat right with her, being a passenger. Her hands rapidly slid across the length of feather fixed in hair, and she tapped out a beat on the floor with her feet.

They had barely taken off when, "Captain-san, it's Willow. We need to speak. Urgently. Please respond with your location."

Her rifle harness creaked slightly as she looked over Wyatt’s shoulder.

Wyatt sighed and activated the comm unit, "I'm in the shuttle with Wolf. We've just left Roc. Can this wait?"

Whatever had happened, Willow sounded in a right state. Plus she didn’t want to go over the details over the air. Never a good sign.

“Purty typical, ain’t it? Leave yer boat for one gorram second,” Tess murmured, sitting back down in her seat.

"Alright, Mei Mei," Sung turned the shuttle about and punched in the docking codes. "I'm heading back now."

As soon as the docking clamps reengaged, Wyatt and Wolf stood and rushed out of the hatch. Tess made like she was going to follow, and then stopped.

“I’ll keep the engines warm!” she called out before plopping into the pilot’s chair. A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she double checked the instruments.

I *might* be inclined to GM a game, but I've never played in Pathfinder, only 3.5.

So tell me, what are the major differences/changes?

Topic: You want to play a WHAT?!? (strange character ideas)
Subject: Challenge Accepted

In my early days of roleplaying, I was invited to join a homebrewed game called "Human". Upon inquiring as to the rules and types of characters I was told by my GM,"You can be anything that you want to be, and together we'll figure out your sheet."

"Hold on a second," I replied, "I can be ANYTHING I want?"

"Yup," he responded, "that's the beauty of Human. Allows for any type of character."

Being the cheeky person that I am, I told my GM, "I want to be an imaginary pink dragon."

And he let me do it. Through a roll of a d6 I was randomly assigned to another player to be their "imaginary friend", thus making me visible to him and him alone. Best part was, the player ran with it, having his character believe he was in a state of mental breakdown.

In the end, my imaginary pink dragon was more like a poltergist; influencing the world in small ways (look out! That toilet seat is flying right for your head!) and serving in a scout type capacity, complete with the loss of translation that an imaginary friend can only create. (Who the hell are you talking to? Don't tell me it's that "dragon" again.)

Nice to see your faces! I'm taking on Tess again, and wanted to let you know before I suddenly appear back in Roc. ^_^

I've read through all that's been happening (man did I miss out on that fancy showdown), and after some clarifying questions to our amazing GM, I'm sitting pretty to reenter the game.

Tess was located on the shuttle with Wyatt and Wolf, so I'll start there without too* much backposting.

*Subject to change as Celeste is known for getting carried away during intense storylines, vulgar backwater humor, and while establishing or reestablishing a character.

I find that GMing is something that you aren't nessecarily prepared for in the first place.

When I took up the mantel, I felt like I was still very green as a player, let alone as a GM. Ah! I just remembered! I wrote an article about that very subject a while ago.

Well, either way, I have no doubt that you and I will end up adventuring together.

Subject: Free Form Madness ~ Restarting the Bleeding Lute

I'm restarting the free form thread, The Bleeding Lute.

Any and all are welcome to join! Please refer to the Q&A thread, page one, for rules and guidelines.

The major difference is that I will be RPing the roles of Waldorf and Statler, so if anyone would like to interact with them, either PM me or just do so in game!

Today’s Menu

  • Mushroom Stew
  • Liver and Potato Kabobs
  • Harvest’s Apple Pie

Beverage of the Day: Captain’s Choice Red

It is mid autumn. The harvest has all been brought in, and folks are getting ready to settling in for the winter. The old farmer, Sam Wheatson, predicts a very heavy and wet season. Today was sunny, but brisk, and this evening the skies are clear, keeping no warmth from the day, and allowing the half moon to shine brightly in the sky.

The stage stands with a local band of four musicians playing tavern favorites.

Five tables have patrons seated around it.

The table in the back is occupied by an elderly elven scholar wearing heavy clothing. She has dyed red hair and a deeply shadowed face. She is reading something.

The table by the stage has an white haired human male blacksmith, a thin half-elven woman wearing fine but dirty robes, a very short, bald headed human woman in a plain tunic, and a halfling male wearing dark red clothing with dirty hair and a freckled face. They are all singing along with the music.

A table in the middle of the room has five patrons seated at it: Two human males, one with a blonde pony tail and square jaw wearing forester’s clothing, the other with a full brown beard wearing leather-trimmed robes, a handsome male gnome wearing leather and studded garb, and stout red haired dwarf wearing adventurer’s garb. They are deep in discussion.

The last table has a group of three young human women in peasant dresses, two with flowing light brown hair and the third with dark brown done up in a bun. They are all giggling and tapping their feet to the music.

Two old men sit at the bar. If you are a frequent patron, you recognize these two codgers as Waldorf and Statler. They often discuss current events, rumors, flirt with the bartender, and trade jokes all in disagreeable nature that leaves you wondering when they will tell you to get off their lawn, you damn kid!

In the mean time, when I get home I will resurrect The Bleeding Lute, for you and anyone else that wants to play!

The Lute is a free form thread, no plot (though we did have a fully formed adventure party leave there once), no expectations, just walk into the tavern and start RPing. There are some rules explainations here.

Hope something pops up for you soon!

Subject: Tess ~ Face? I can do Face.

“Lilianna Fairchild? The Princess?" Jon asked incredulously.

Tess had no idea who in the seven hells this woman was, but it certainly seemed to throw Jon’s head for a spin. He began stammering, a rare thing nowadays. That man had been shot at, blowed up, and heavens know what else.

Really must’ve taken those deaths hard. Hell, I did too, but at least I had some imminent heroics to keep me occupied .

“They can afford a private luxury transport,………,” he was muttering, “why would she be slipping in through the back on freighter? ……. Mind you we are impressed to have her as the fare, but she’ll mean more security, …….better food,…….Oh God we got so much cleaning to do……”

Tess rested her arm on his shoulder heavily, hoping to snap him out of it. If he kept on like this, he might cost them the job.

Doubtful. No other boat can make it in this time.

She decided to take his long-winded approach and run with it, “Yer darn right we do. We’ll be needin’ a little time to fix up our boat proper for such a fancy lady to come onboard. We want to make sure we make the right impression fer our employer here,” here she gestured to Badger with the remains of her sandwich, took another bite, and continued to address Jon in a voice that all the room could hear.

“Trouble is that we’re gonna hafta pull off a jing tian dwohn di miracle. Destiny ain’t no passenger ship. Sure, we got two rooms with two beds in ‘em. But that still means we’re movin’ some crew around, unless those two fellas there are a lot cozier with one another than they’re lettin’ on,” she smiled and nodded at the two behind Badger, “plus we’re gonna need to refigure our air scrubbers fer another five warm bodies, stock up on foodstuffs, refuel, and do a good scour of everything so our fine lady will feel right at home. Plus our mechanic’ll wanna do a once over before running at such hot speeds. All before an early take off tomorrow AM so we can get our passenger there on time to her big day.”

Here she took another swig of her fruity drink, and continued to address Jon, “I dunno Capt’n. Sounds like we’re gonna hafta be workin’ double time throughout the night, and then some afterwards to keep our guest happy. Plus we’re gonna be needin’ to hit the market first thing before we high tail it outta here. We’re fast, Capt’n, but do ya’ll think yah can be convincing the crew to be that fast?” Here, Tess lifted her eyebrows as she looked into Jon’s face.
