Subject: Post....

Greetings All,

Sorry for not having a better post. However, I've just finished "dead" week and have moved into finals so hopefully I'll be able to post in a more timely manner after the end of my semester.

Subject: Village o'the Damned....

Arvin shrugged as he watched the party move on toward the village and muttered, “Who the hell said anything about sleeping on the ground?” He continued to grumble as he followed along a bit behind the rest, “I would have been more than happy to have called up a nice snug cottage, but no we have to go traipsing off into a village that just happens to look exactly like the one that vanished into mist and brought us here…and some people think I’m crazy.”

As they entered town the mage kept his eyes, ears, and other senses extended to the best of his limited ability searching for anything that might give him a clue as to what had brought them here and why. The village gave him the feeling of déjà vu. This feeling culminated when he spotted the same Inn as the last village not to mention seeing the man from the library which was just too much.

“This...this cannot be!” Mylos muttered under his breath.

“Are we dreaming?” Anna wondered out loud.

Ark suddenly gripped her hand as he exclaimed, "What do we do?"

The bard rounded on him, “Silence you fool. Keep cool all of you. We must pretend we have not seen this town before. We book rooms for the night, whilst I figure out when the event may occur. See the librarian? The horse carving was on the table, perhaps we can measure the time they will come by the stage he is through the carving.”

“You keep calm, Mylos,” retorted the mage, “I’m going to see if Cass and Rain are where I left them and then I’m going to go get some sleep.”

“Ho, friend,” Mylos called to the man as he moved away from the group, “A lovely day is it not? May I ask after your carving there? I am a keen collector of such pieces.”

Arvin watched as Mylos and Anna approached the Librarian to ‘fish’ for information and stayed around long enough to hear Marius decree that he was going to The Boar on Rotation to secure rooms and meals for everyone and that was the last straw for the young mage. Who decided then and there to go back to his something close to his original plan.

“You may do as you please with yourself and your coin,” The mage said haughtily, “I am going to see if I can’t locate Cass and Rain and then I will secure my own bed for the night.”

Arvin turned back down the street and trudged toward where he’d left his horse and familiar in the “last” town they’d stopped in. “After all, if this is the same village then Cass should be around here somewhere.” The bond betwixt him and his familiar had never broken so Arvin decided to follow his “nose” and see where that led him.

((OoC: 1: Arvin will attempt to locate Cass through the empathic link, 2: Arvin will not be spending the night in town, instead he will cast Leomund’s Secure Shelter for sleeping quarters outside town.))

First, a translation of the French in my post. Chateau Perdre Dans les Bois, mean Castle Lost in the Woods or house lost in the woods...your choice.

Second, the whole let's sleep on it thing. The first is,we're all fatigued and second, spell casters ned 8 hours to replenish their spells.

Questions, comments, concerns? I look forward to seeing everyone's responses.

Subject: To trudge.....

“You boys are always ruining my fun,” she said good naturedly, and added under her breath, “Not that I have anything to drink with me anyway.”

Ark chuckled a little bit. "There'll be drinks plenty Anna," he replied, "Just as soon as we figure this mess out."

Arvin decided not to give in and reply to Anna. ”Nope, I’ll just keep that snide remark to myself,” the mage thought ironically to himself, “By the gods, I wish I could see a little better” Grumbling, more than a little, under his breath Arvin settled himself against the nearest tree trunk and tried, without success, to get some sleep.

Arvin woke with the sun and stood trying to stretch the various kinks and sore muscles that came from trying to sleep leaned against a tree. He was in the middle of stretching when Anna broke the morning silence with a flippant remark, “I’d like to file a complaint with the management. Starting with the fact that I didn’t get fresh flowers delivered to my room.”

"Aw, poor princess," Ark teased. "And I suppose the bed had lumps too?"

”why the hell not,” Arvin thought and then turned, and in his best courtly manner, bowed to the young lady and replied, “Our sincerest apologies lady, if it would please you I shall have the maid beaten at once for not better preparing you quarters. After all, our first goal here at, Chateau Perdre Dans les Bois, is to please our guests.” When he finished his statement, Arvin turned away from Anna hiding the grin on his face.”This should be good,” he thought, ”let’s see how they respond.”

The morning progressed and the party headed east. Arvin spent the day studying his surroundings and pondering the events that led them to this strange place hoping to gain some insight into what had happened and how. Two hours later the party found themselves once again at the brackish pond where they had filled their water skins earlier.

Anna put her face into her hands, “I feel like we’re being driven towards a particular path. I’d like to say we should just stay here until this strange phenomenon has worked itself out, but I doubt that would do it. Besides, pretty sure sitting here would drive me crazy,” she looked up at the rest of the group, “So, new direction?”

"New direction sounds about good," Ark agreed. "It's not as though we've got anything better to try, right?" The blond Bayrisian seemed chipper enough, smiling brightly.

It was decided that a change of direction was in order and the party turned and continued south.

When night fell on the second night, Arvin was in not much better a mood as they set-up ‘camp’ for the night. ”Just once, I wish things would work out like they’re supposed,” the mage groused to himself, “There’s not near enough room here for me to cast that damn spell.” Digging in his belt he found his days worth of trail rations, and deciding that something was better than nothing, divided it into equal portions for the group, “It’s not much, but at the least it’s something.” He said as he passed around the portions and then wrapped himself in his cloak and tried to get some sleep.

The next morning dawn much as the previous one had, Arvin woke started stretching and waited for Anna’s witty remark, “Could someone remind the maid to change the sheets for tonight? I’m pretty sure mine had some dirt in them.”

“I’ll tell you what Anna,” Arvin responded without rancor, “If we can find a large enough space to sleep in tonight I’ll summon us all real beds. For now let’s see if we can’t make our way back to where we started.”

Mylos once again obliged the party by providing the correct direction and they started off in to the woods. Arvin spent the morning once again following along with his attention directed toward the party’s surroundings and how they had come to this strange place. Around mid-day the forest seemed to shift around the mage. A lone green beech tree stood out amongst the near dead trunks surrounding it. Anna darted to it and ran her hands across the trunk turning back to grin at the rest of the crew.

“Looks like we’re going the right way,” she said.

A short time later the forest changed entirely as the mage followed the rest of the party. The dead and twisted trunks ceased appearing; the song of birds could occasionally be heard and the mists eventually gave way. About an hour later the party, quite literally, stumbled across a dirt road.

As they followed the road with the mage in tow, still studying their surroundings, the forest seemed to grow ever more vibrant with squirrels and rabbits occasionally appearing. The road eventually left the forest bringing the party into a small village surrounded by grassland and trees. Arvin felt the first his spirits lift and his step quicken as he thought of a warm comfortable common room and a pint of decent beer, when suddenly the party stopped in its tracks to stare at a disturbing doll hanging from a nearby tree. The doll had a small body and a big head, almost man-sized, with small button eyes and a stitched mouth. It was bound to the tree by a thin rope, and around its neck hung a wire with feathers and beads. Its gaze was seemed to be locked on the party, and though it was just a lifeless puppet, it gave the mage the creepy feeling that it was watching him. He was about to say something when Anna beat him to the punch, “Everywhere I move,” she said, moving from side to side as she spoke, “it’s like its eyes are following me.”

“It’s strange,” she said after a moment, hesitating before adding, “Do you think we need to provide a toll to pass? An offering?”

"By my father's grave, what in the hells is that...?" Ark asked.

Mylos responded to Ark’s question first, “This may not be all as it seems, much like the misty village before. I suggest a careful approach to this small town.” he advised the group, glancing at Marius. “Also, that thing is not what we should be scared of, it is the symbol of what these people are portraying it to mean I am concerned of the most.”

“Perhaps, we should move back toward the forest and get a good night’s sleep before we enter into this strange place,” Arvin suggested, “I can call up a nice shelter and tomorrow we can investigate the village,” the mage shrugged then and continued with a smile, “I guess we’re not going to get that pint this evening after all Anna.”

((OoC: Arvin will spend the bulk of his time and attention on the party’s surroundings trying to figure out what the … and how the … it happened. Other than that, he’ll cast Loemund’s Secure Shelter for the party to use for the night.))

Subject: Mysterious Mists Move Many

The mage watched as the old man regained some of his composure and looked around at each of them. Then librarian blinked and his gaze went fierce again, as if his strength had been lost, and was now returning to him.

“You come here in the guise of Braths and Syls and mortal Men, but I read your game, oh darkling. Yet, I will play by your rules, until you tire of me. And you will deal with me then, knowing I have seen through this façade all along. How heavily bitter your victory will near a defeat.”

He made a sign with his hands, mimicking a book being opened, and defiantly glared at the party.

“For long, and you know this, this town has been plagued by a series of disappearances. Young boys, all of them, taken from our midst to entertain the likes of YOU! Yes! I know what you did with them. You didn’t think I’d figure it out then… but I did. And one day they found her. They had no proof, but the evidence was clear enough to satisfy the mayor.”

The old man then struggled to get loose from Marius’ grip, but failing he gave up.

“At midday they stacked the wood, and when the sun had gone beyond the rooftops she was dragged across the town square. I know it wasn’t her. I knew it back then, seeing your hand that tricked her into suspicion. I knew it and wrote the mayor when he wouldn’t see me. He had always listened to me, but listened no longer. You deafened him, flaming his anger higher and higher. And his flames rose to the wood beneath her feet.”

The old man paused and suddenly gripped Marius by the collar with a strength that startled the mage, and drug the templar so the two men were face-to-face.

“And when the flames reached her she cursed this town. She cursed them all, face by face, for their injustice. She cast them into smoke as she herself was wrapped in it. It is irony how you came when she demanded it, while it was you who had cornered her to begin with. It is irony, and with irony I curse you equally, with your bodies made of ash and your eyes produced from flame. May Jusarin…”

The old man broke off in the middle of his statement, and he blankly stared into nothingness as if the group of adventurers just wasn’t there anymore. His wrinkled fist released Marius’ collar and he stared at his palm in wonder.

Arvin watched with rising suspicion as the old man’s form seemed to grow less and less substantial. He could clearly see the bookshelves behind the cleric right through his body. Within seconds the cleric had turned to mist and evaporated before their very eyes. The last expression the mage saw on the old man’s face was a content smile and his gaze once more turning towards the heavens.

((OoC: Spellcraft check please.))

"By the gods" said Chale in surprise "He just turned into mist."

Arvin met Marius’s questioning look with a slight shrug of the shoulders and responded to the unspoken question, “I’m not sure how he managed it.”

The mage watched as the other members of the party all responded to Marius’s silent question. It seemed that no one else had any clue either. Marius shrugged and turned towards the doorway. "Well I guess we might as well head back outside to see if there's anyone else left."

“I’m right behind you guys.” The mage spoke calmly. Exiting the building the mage was startled to find that night had fallen. The mists and darkness were so absolute that neither the light of the bonfire was visible, nor could he hear the ever present crackling of the flames. The conditions outside of the building made it impossible to search for other possible survivors and the group agreed to leave the village proper and return to their wagon and horses.

As the party attempted to traverse the village and return to their mounts, it seemed to the mage that there was something amiss. ‘We should’ve reached the edge of the square by now,’ the mage thought irritably, ‘Cursed mists!’

The directions of his thoughts roused the mage’s mind and he began suspiciously examining his environment with all his senses.

((OoC: Knowledge Planes and spellcraft checks please. Also, when does Arvin lose empathic contact with Cass?))

As they persisted in their attempt to leave the town the feel of the cobblestones under foot continued to give Arvin some comfort. “At least we’re still on the road,” he muttered under his breath and then even that modicum of normality vanished. The feel of cobble stone under his feet giving way to the soft carpeted feel of grass backing up a few steps he found that the cobblestones had gone. The soft sounds of the outdoors came to life as in the distance, crickets chirped quietly followed moments later by an owl calling softly. The mists began to glow and seemed to grow more corporeal, but it was just the moon appearing from behind thick clouds, somewhere far above them.

Slowly Marius turned from his position at point and looked at the party, "Anyone have any idea what happened? Do you have some divination magics available to tell us where we are? The crazy old man spoke of the mists or some people from the mists abducting their kids. Have the mists now taken us as well?"

"What the...Shouldn’t be nothing but sheep for miles 'round here, never saw anything of a forest on our way over. We may turn to mist ourselves if we don’t get out of here soon,” Chale said with a frown.

“I can find North if that's any help? Though the rest I am as clueless as you, friend.” Mylos responded to the templar’s questions.

"I'm going to have to second that movement," Ark said with his sword in hand and his eyes in constant motion, "Can't figure out where we're going till we know where we are, right?"

“Time certainly has seemed to play mary-hob on us, Marius,” Anna said, indicating the moon high above them. The corner of her mouth twitched as she continued, “Aside from that, I haven’t the foggiest idea.”

Arvin watched as Ark lowered the point of his sword and sidled upto Anna. "Hey," he murmured quietly, "How're you holding up?"

“Considering we just got kidnapped by mist, pretty well,” she replied, keeping her voice low as she moved even closer to Ark, “I’m pretty annoyed that both my cloak and my bedroll are still on the wagon. That, and Wynn is out in the middle of some potentially demon infested town.” She sighed heavily before continuing, “What I wouldn’t do for a drink right about now.”

“I’m not so sure that a drink would be that great an idea Anna,” Arvin spoke in soft tones, “After all, we don’t know where we are or what’s out here waiting for us. I think that perhaps we should move away from this area and find a good place for me to set-up a shelter for us and get some rest,” the mage continued, “We can always come back in the morning…or would you rather try to return to that gods forsaken village in the middle of the night?”

After speaking his piece, the mage waited for the rest of the party to decide how to proceed. “It’s a good thing I never go anywhere without my book and components,” He muttered, “We can sleep dry and safe for the night and then in the morning we’ll see if we can’t get back to our mounts and gear…I do hope Cass and Rain are ok,” The mage fell silent with a sigh. His features reflecting his concern for his both his mount and his dog.

Subject: damage control

As the party wandered from building to building searching the town, Arvin studied the figure in the flames thinking “Whatever is in the middle of that fire can’t be a normal human, we don’t survive being burned alive for more than a few moments.”

The mage watched as the party ventured into the first house. His invisible state giving him a feeling of safety, he watched as Marius lingered in the square examining the ground around the ghastly bonfire. When the party left the first building and moved to the second, Arvin rejoined their ranks and moved with them toward the next building.

The pall covering the village seemed to thicken more and more as the party lingered in the little village searching the buildings for some evidence of the event that had caused the villagers mass exodus. The Inn was much like any other small town inn and its common room had obviously been heavily occupied before being emptied, but there were no signs of a struggle and aside from the figure in flames the village seemed to be truly deserted. Ark spoke-up in the tavern voicing his thoughts, "It's almost like the night was in full swing," he stated quietly, his usually lively tenor dulled and sober, "And all of a sudden everyone just..." He made a waving motion with his hand. "Got up and left."

There was nothing the mage could say to that observation and so he kept his peace. The party left the Boar on Rotation and moved to the next building.

The next building held a pleasant surprise for the arcane caster, it was a small library. That’s odd, you usually don’t find libraries in small towns and villages. I wonder if there are any books that would be of use for me here? Arvin watched as Anna thumbed through a random volume on a table. He stepped to one side and allowed the others to pass by him as he prepared to cast a spell. Maybe, some poor sod-buster found a tome or a scroll of some sort and passed it on to the librarian.

Just as he was starting the incantation, there was a sound from the second floor and the party burst back into the library. Leaving the spell incomplete, Arvin turned to see what had caused the noise and saw the robed figure of an old man descending the stairs into the book filled room. He was ancient, wearing a long robe with grey bands of cloth hanging from his neck like a brocade scarf trimmed with silver thread. On his chest rested the symbol of an open book.

The old man eyed them with a haunted fever.

“What are you doing here? Who sent you? Curse the bellows and whispers of the fog. Curse you, demonspawn.”

Arvin was shocked by the appearance of life in this otherwise dead town and watched with growing alarm as the old man reached into his vestments for a holy symbol.

He fumbled for a pendant around his neck and produced a silver symbol equaling the image on his chest. With trembling hands he held it up towards the group.

“Be gone from this holy place!”

Mylos was the first to respond to the sudden appearance of the old man and sheathing his weapons responded to the robed figure, “Ho friend, we have been sent by no-one. We saw the fire, as I am sure many others have, and came to help this small town.” Mylos spoke calmly, then his tone changed to a sterner one, “We need information and we need it now old man.”

Before the man could respond to Mylos, Marius took a few quick steps to reach the elderly man, grabbed him by the front of his robe and pulled him closer. "Listen carefully, graybeard. You seem to be the only one still alive in this Rydor forsaken backwater village of yours. It might not be too far-fetched to claim you're the one responsible for the disappearance or even deaths of the others. So unless you wish to join whomever is enjoying the cleansing flames of the Lawmaker outside, you start making some sense. NOW!"

There was nothing in the witch hunter's voice that told Arvin his threat was an empty one. Though the mage was fairly sure he wouldn't carry through on the crude promise. The templar continued to stare into the scholar's eyes, but didn't let go of the robe. As he spoke again, the templar's voice was firm yet equally intimidating. "Do we have a common understanding?"

Arvin was more than a little shocked and angered by Marius’s actions and was preparing to let the self-righteous little Rydor worshipper know exactly what he thought when Ark stepped forward trying to diffuse the situation, "Do I look like a demon to you, good sir?" he asked, striding up to the scene, "I know my friend here can be a little gruff," the rogue continued, resting an arm across the witch-hunter's shoulders. "But do you see any horns? Sure, there's a corpse burning in your square and all your neighbors are mysteriously missing, and a heavily armed, in some cases rather shady, but one and all completely foreign group of strangers have shown up at your door, but at least they aren't ACTUAL DEMONS.”

The growing anger that Arvin felt was in no-way reduced by Ark’s casual banter and he was preparing to launch Marius a few miles out of town when Anna spoke, her tone icy, “Marius, You don’t need to accost every innocent we encounter. No one likes the situation happening outside, and you’re not making it any better by physically threatening someone.”

“This has gone quiet far enough,” Arvin thought and then called to his familiar, “Cass make your way back to Rain and continue to stay out of sight.”

Arvin stepped forward and spoke aloud for the first time since entering the village, “Marius, Anna is correct and your approach to the situation is quiet repugnant,” as he spoke the mage’s bearing became more regal and his tone became more commanding, “You will release that man and step away from him.”

and if you don’t my little witch-hunter, you might just find yourself miles away from where your standing…I do hope I don’t accidentally put you into a tree or rock when you get there.

“My apologies for my companions rude behavior learned sir, but one can never be too cautious when dealing with the unknown,” Arvin continued, his tone and manner still that of a noble’s, he now directly addressing the old man, “Now, if everyone would calm down perhaps we could begin to resolve this situation.”

“Brace for impact!” Tess shouted over the comm.

Moments later the bridge of Destiny was flooded with light before the shockwave hit. Jason didn’t even have time to blink as the ship rocked in the wake of the explosion. He felt himself being thrown out of his seat and could only think irritably Ta Ma Duh!! Why in the Ai Yah Tien Ah did this have to happen when I was so close to finding an answer?!?! and the he and the deck met, rather violently. His lights blinked in and out a couple of times before he could shake it off.
He stood carefully and heard Tess speak quietly into the darkness, ““The engines!”
Jason realized that the constant vibration of the engines had gone from the deck plating under his feet. He started to move cautiously toward the hatch and heard Ken’s shouting come up from bellow deck.

“We’re under attack! Ready to repel boarders! Where the hell are the emergency lights?”

Jon shouted, “Tess, it’s an EMP, we’re open to boarding. Find any hand lights you can and listen for something trying to latch on. There was something more than just that Arrowhead out there. The errand boy didn’t succeed so that’s the price of failure. This was too High Tech for the Tong, more likely we got a Marauder out there. This trap ain’t closed yet.”

“Jon,” Tess replied calmly, “I’m right here. Just cause I can’t see don’t mean my gorram ears don’t work. If I didn’t know no better, Capt’n, I’d say you were my EMP good luck charm. Lights’ll be on soon, have faith in Grace.”

‘I’m headed to the main airlock, someone watch the Hover Bay in case they latch on there,” Ken’s voice echoed up the hall.

“Good idea. Jason can you grab a weapon and cover the Hover Bay? Tess can you stay here and be ready for when power comes back on, you need to hold the bridge. Maybe our Lady will add her blessing to us, if anyone can see in the dark it’ll be her.”

“I ain’t armed, Capt’n, ‘cept for my little pen knife here,” she replied, “Don’t you go a-worrying though. I ain’t gonna leave Destiny’s main while we’re in this state. Make sure I don’t have to slice no one’s throat, will ya Jon? I’d hate to see your chair get all nastyfied.” Jason heard her unlocked the strap on her blade and the sound of steal clearing leather as she spoke.

“Watch your cabooses,” she said as Jason groped his way off the bridge.
“Roger that Capt’n,” Jason replied to Jon as he stumbled out into the hallway, “Don’t you go worrin’ about us Tess, we’ll make sure to keep your lady in one piece.”

Jason stumbled down the dark hallway groping for the familiar path that would lead him to his quarters and his weapon stash. He moved as quickly as he dared through the blacked-out ship careening through the ship. “Way to go Chwen,” Jason thought darkly to himself, “This is what you get for not carrying your pistols on ship.” Then he shrugged and smirked thinking, “Then again, it’s not like we want to be putting holes in our boat.” Jason chuckled at that thought until he collided bodily with the wall.
“Wong Ba Duhn!” Jason shouted into the black, “I’m fine. I just slammed into a wall. Nothin hurt but my pride.”
”Atleast I know where I am,” He thought, “Even if I did have to find out with my face…When are those damn lights gonna come on?” He continued moving down the corridor reaching his room within minutes. He stepped into his quarters and grabbed his harness off the wall. He stopped mid-motion and smiled a nasty smile as something dawned on him.
”How Shi Sung Chung,” he murmured quietly in to his dark room, “My door just happens open into the hallway that’s the only way in or out of the hover bay,” The grin widened as he slipped out one of his pistols and knelt behind the door, “I can’t wait to meet’em!”

Arvin rode in his customary half aware state, his reigns were wrapped around the saddle horn and to all appearances the mage’s attention was completely focused upon the tome in his hands the close proximity of Sendria forgotten as he focused of studying. Huh, who’d have thought my travels, would bring me back to the city of magic?

As he strode into the library, Arvin could almost see his younger-self moving amongst the tall bookcases within the libraries vast hall. He smiled, as he thought of the time he had spent roaming the stacks, and slowly wandered in the direction of the chief librarian.

“Good day sir,” Arvin spoke giving the gentleman in front of him a slight bow, “I haven’t had the pleasure of touring your fine library, would you be so kind as to point me in the direction of the Planar tomes?” ~A little flattery never hurts, Arvin thought to himself with a mental shrug, Besides, it’s even the truth.~

After spending the day amongst the vast collection of knowledge contained in the library, and with a little help from some of the librarians, Arvin had finally found what he’s been looking for. It was the spell of Dismissal and he couldn’t believe that he didn’t already have it in his spell book. ~Teach me to leave the school without a way to rid myself of the summoning of others, he berated himself silently, just as well everything here is available for a price, He sighed and thought of his once full purse, but that’s what coin is for isn’t it.~

The sounds of the beautiful Swashbuckler, Anna, vaulting into the wagon’s seat brought the mage out of his reverie. He slipped his precious spell book back into its pocket in his belt, and once again took up his reigns. His eyes scanned the surrounding country side, not that he could tell one plant from another. He soon spotted the column of smoke in the sky and with a twitch of the reign altered his course to match that of the wagon.

Half an hour later, the party neared the source of the smoke. It was a small village that smelled heavily of smoke and slightly of cooking meat. As the party closed in on the village, the mage called forth his familiar, Cass. Arvin’s face assumed as slight frown as he concentrated on communicating with Cass, Cass, he spoke in the silence of his mind, take a look around the outskirts of the village, let me know what you find, and keep out if sight. Feeling and ‘hearing’ his companions response, Arvin reigned in his mount and dismounted leaving Rain ‘ground-tied’. Focusing his mental energies, Arvin cast a spell of invisibility upon himself and then followed the others into the lifeless town’s square.

The source of the cooked meat smell became apparent as Arvin’s invisible form strode into the town’s square. In the center of the square stood a bonfire, and as an errant gust of wind parted its flame the mage glimpsed the still moving body of the fire’s victim. His mind shuddered away from the implication of the pain that the burning victim must be enduring and extended his magical senses searching for any magical or other planar presence in the village.

((OoC: I’m more than willing to pay the listed rates for adding a spell for the addition of Dismissal to my spell book.))

Topic: Shadow Cathedral Q/A
Subject: My two cents...

First a small Joke:

Do you know what difference between a Viking and a Pirate is??

About 400 years and the shape of the ship.

and now for something totaly different:
Arvin's backround:

My name is Arvin, I’m the third son of a noble family. My noble parents wanted a second son just in case. I was eight when my younger sister came along…my world came crashing down. I was no longer the baby and my parents doted on her. I tried to play along with the family but I hated what had happened. I started rebelling about six months later. After a couple of years even the neighbors started to notice and I became an embarrassment. My parents couldn’t send me away and they couldn’t control me. That all came to an end shortly after my twelfth birthday; one night in the grip of a nightmare I blew-out the side wall of the manor house and that was that. My Lord Father finally had the excuse he needed to bundle me up and send me on my way. Oh my mother wept, or rather she hid her eyes and pretended to weep, as I lashed my few belongings to the saddle of my horse, Rain, but she was just as happy to be rid of me as father.

They sent along one of their eldest arms-men, to make sure I arrived safely of course. He and I spent many nights together on the road and that’s when I first heard about my grandfather. The arms-man and I were sitting around the fire one night and after a few flagons he got into a story-telling mode. He told me of riding into battles with my fore-father. He also spoke of the rare occasions when my fore-father would have some kind of ‘fit’ come over him in the middle of battle. These ‘fits’ would usually have grandpa speaking in some weird language and then gesturing at the enemy in front of him who would then promptly burst into flame or have lightning dance through their ranks. Afterward, my grandfather never could remember what he’d said or done and since it always seemed to work in their favor the arms-men never spread the tales. I guess he was the first mage in the family, not that it mattered where the magic came from…I was cursed with it.

We arrived at the mage-school, bid one another farewell, and parted ways. Learning to become a proper mage took me several years. When I left the school behind I decided that it was time to call for a familiar. I set out to an appropriate place and sent out my call. The animal that responded to my call was not at all what I was expecting…it was a male dog. I named him Casanova, or Cass for short, because he managed to charm me into keeping him.
Personality :
To the casual observer Arvin seems to be introverted tending to only express affection toward his dog, and well…it’s true. After having his family give him the boot and the mage school send him packing only months after ‘graduation,’ Arvin is more than a little paranoid. The wizard mutters, a lot, and often even seems to argue with himself on occasion. He doesn’t make attachments or likes to think so. The people he does become attached to he gives a “hard time.”
Battle Tactics:
Arvin always tries his best to stay out of the way during a fight. He usually tries to find a place to cast his spells from without endangering the party and will keep Cass close to him. If all else fails Arvin is the emergency escape plan and will teleport the party to safety.

“We’d like to buy the wine from you. A special price of 5000 credits a barrel in platinum, as compensation for any difficulties you might have explaining its loss to your current employer," Mr. Chung offered.

“Ah, Mr. Chung, I’m gonna need a bit, you just hang out there, we’ll call back,” with that Jon signaled Tess to break the wave.
The image winked out and Jon turned to the crew, “Rung Tse Song Di Ching Dai Wuo Tzo.”

“If we take the deal, we’ll never get another legal job and the Barron will see to it we go to jail. If we don’t take the deal we’ll always be looking over our shoulder for the Tong.”

“Ta Ma Duh!”

“I say we tell them to buzz off,” Ken stated, “then haul ass out of here.” Ken shook his head continuing, “I know; I wish I could figure out a way to give up the goods for that kind of scratch and not be hounded by the guys that hired us but frankly I can’t!”

“Ain’t ones to go back on our word, Ken,” Tess agreed, still working on the console, “Cap’n, I ain’t worried about getting there, I’m worried what’ll happen when we git there. Might’n be a good idea to have Jason phone ahead. Let ‘em know what happened. May even git a little ground support, If he asked real nice. I’m trying to get a location on the Arrowhead, at least have some idea as to where they’re holed up.”

"I agree with Ken. I got a bad feeling about these guys. They know more than we do about this situation. I can see if I can get Destiny to give us a good push. We may be faster but some races are won through stamina, not speed," Stated Grace.

Jon signaled Tess to continue the wave as he turned back to the Vid, "Well Mr. Chung, you're only a day out of Greenleaf, I'm sure they have more wine ready. We have a contract and we plan to honor it so I'm sorry but as tempting as it your offer is a contract is a contract. We're behind schedule as it is so no offense but we gotta burn."

"Very Good Captain. Very Good indeed. Had you accepted my offer then you would have failed my simple test and brought dishonor to your ship. I am humbled to be in the presence of one with honor. I would return this favour by telling you that your shipment may not be what you think and you are caught in a game between demonic forces. There is a moon that you will pass in less than an hour at current speed. We have a bumblebee setup there is two ports. We use it for exchanges when we don't want alliance eyes. Meet me there and we will talk? I give you my work as a representative of the 14K Tong that you will not be harmed, and no force will be used against you."

"I assure you Captain that you are more valuable to us alive and well. We will let you land first if you'd prefer and we will arrive unarmed. Truly, I merely wish to talk to you and if i earn your trust, then perhaps I can show you what you need to know."

Looking as cool as he could Jon said,” Wuo Jai Jeong Yi Chi. We have a contract and we plan to honor it. Have a good day Mr. Chung.” With that said Jon cut the wave.

“Tess, Jio Weh Sung Chiuh. Let's just get the hell out of here! Show these locals how this lady can dance. Save the big burn for a surprise,” Jon said.

"The real Tong don't have to tell you they are the Tong; you'll know it. It's a trap!"

“Shiong mao niao” Ken said shaking his head after the channel with the Tong was closed, “Jon you really should let Jason handle the delicate situations.”

“I think you should have at least told them you would consider meeting with them later since you can’t stop right now because of the tight schedule,” he said, “but if you were going to blow them off at least do it with some tact; you sounded like me.”

“Yeah it’s probably a trap, but of course the Tong tell you they are they Tong,” he chuckled, “how else do you get a rep if people don’t know who you are? And who would say they are the Tong if they aren‘t? I think the real Tong would take offense.”

Turning to leave the bridge, “Well at least don’t go full burn when you run,” he stepped out and his last words could be heard from down the passage, “they can’t do anything to stop us so no rush.”

Jason glanced toward Ken an amused look on his face, “Well, I guess this means the easy part is over,” whit a shrug he turned back to the Captain, “Jon, did you want me to check into these guys? I figure we have about six hours till they could possibly intercept us out here and that gives me plenty of time to check into a few things,” Jason shrugged his shoulders bouncing himself off the bulkhead, “Did you want me to check in with Decimus and inform him of our current plight and see about getting some ground support for the delivery or would you rather I leave the Baron in the dark on this one?” Jason asked as he crossed the bridge to the Com station, “It’s up to you Cap’n, I just work here.”

Jason sat down at his console bringing it to life with a few quick gestures that spoke of long practice with the equipment and started checking the local times of his informants figuring out who to call first.

I'm interested, and I have a couple of questions. First, what time frame are you basing this game in? Second, do you have any character classes that we should avoid during character creation? Last but not least would you mind having an old soldier in the party....oh yeah and if we end up with some idiot of a butter bar...can we kill him??

Al,

1) Guest List: I was fairly certain that I already had one but can't find it.

2)Skill check to see what Jason knows or can find out about the tong that we're apparently dealing with and if they're two separate factions.

3) Skill check to have Jason contact Norman Sellers and learn what he can about this recent development w/o alerting everybody and their brother.

4)Skill check to have Jason attempt to schmooze Decimus and have ground support for the delivery.

Subject: Tong at the party....

I had asked that same question and didn't much of a response other than the guest list looks like a "who's who" of Alliance, Fed, and Tong....I've asked for more info and will relate it as soon as I get it....I'd just like to make sure that we're not going to cause ourselves even more grief before we arrive.

Subject: Here's the deal Sparky.....thought before action

First, the tong can't shoot us down.

Second, they can't force us to land or board us.

Third, if they do try to use violence in a major shipping lane it will most definitely attract the Feds

Fourth, if we do something stupid and flashy (see hard/full burn in shipping lane) we might have the Feds on our butts

Now, having pointed out these four facts....CAN WE CALM DOWN and think before we do something monumentally STUPID?

At least allow Jason and Grace to check into this before we freak out...and yes I'm referring to our tendency to over react.
