Topic: Adventuring in Numenera: The Ninth World
Subject: .

Just a little bump, I have run a couple sessions of this game now and have a good grasp of the rules.
If anyone has questions before wanting to jump in to a new system I'm more than happy to assist!

Subject: Adventuring in Numenera: The Ninth World

I have recently come across a new rule system for tabletop games known as Numenera: The Ninth World. I have spent a few days now going over rules, creating characters, and learning how things work. I feel confident enough to attempt running a game now and have a pre gen adventure to take players through. It will be a learning experience for everyone, and hopefully I can get some people in to this new system.

The setting takes place just over a billion years in the future. Including Earth, 8 civilizations have risen and fallen, leaving behind milennias worth of technology and history. Those living in the Ninth World spend their time in the relative safety of the few civilized lands on the now Super Continent that makes up Earth's landmass. The brave few who go out and explore ancient and derelict structures and ruins are the ones who find new Numenera. Some even gain the skill to create their own Numenera devices for either pesonal or community use.

Character creation is relatively simple. The long part of it is making the 3 decisions about your character. [Name] is a [Adjective] [Noun] who [Verb]. This is the basis for your character. Noun covers your class, of which there are 6 to choose from. The adjective describes your character, and alters some of your skills and abilities. These things include Charming, Tough, Forward Thinking, etc. The Verb adds another special ability to your class, that gains power as you level up. Some examples include Bears a Halo of Flame, Rages, Talks to Machines, etc.

If this sounds interesting to anyone, I'm looking for 4-6 players. I'm more than willing to help with character creation and will provide the book needed to make your character in a Google Drive Link down below here.

I also play Guilty Gear, though not as much as I use to. Ramlethal and Jack-O are my mains for that

I've been around the Inn here and there for a few years now, though I haven't been playing much of an active roll for various reasons. I like to think I'm in a stable enough to position to actually be more active in the Inn again. I'll be peeking in to the recruitment threads so keep an eye out for me!

Heya folks, assuming I am able to manage my sleep and schedule better after my vacation I should hopefully return from my lurker status. I've been busy and very thrown off kilter ever since I accepted the graveyard shift at work, but I'm getting things together. Hope y'all haven't missed me too much!

Hey everyone sorry for the absence. Between moving, paying off debt, attempting to figure out how paying back student loans works, and starting a second job, you can say I've been busy. I have some days off coming up I'll catch up on all the posts and chime in if I have any ideas to add to what the party is planning.

Can't wait to get Mattias interacting with everyone again!

For something like this I'd just like to throw out the World of Darkness is perfect for this setting. Normal humans with interest in the supernatural using old knowledge and current technology to try and combat and investigate strange going ons. Highly recommended looking up the base book at the least for some ideas.

So I'm using data on my phone right now to post this, but in interest of keeping this game going feel free to push ahead and choose Mattia's actions. He'll do his best to keep the enemies hiding by firing on them much as possible. I'll have wifi again by Friday hopefully, if not I'll update again to let all you know.

Since Mattia is in a considerably safe area, he's going to continue the next few rounds with what I had posted previously. Just keep on shooting cowboy.

Subject: Not quite done

Mattia froze in the bushes as the three newcomers exited the cabin. The hobgolin for sure looked the toughest, but to Mattia that wasn't a problem, he did not like the look of the possible mage.

Lining up a shot, he fired upon the woman wearing the flowing robes, before ducking behind a tree to reload. He decided to make the best use of his cover as he could and would continue to rain bullets upon the "mage".

((OOC: Mattia will take a 5ft step to the closet tree to use as cover, then spend his standard and move action to fire then reload. He'll do this until the mage drops, then move on to firing upon the hobgoblin.))

Subject: Finishing the fight

Mattia cursed as his shot went wide of the target, he jerked to the left as the retaliating crossbow bolt slammed in to the tree beside him. As he peered out from the bush he started to reload his gun, and he noticed that one bandit disappeared after producing a small glass vial. Muttering to himself he shifted in behind the tree and closed his eyes for a moment.

As he opened his eyes, he turned to the right and sprinted out from behind the tree. Staring at where the bandit who had turned invisible had been, he aimed for the shimmering outline and fired his pistol once more.

Reloading his pistol, he shifted as far behind the table as he could before putting another shot in to the invisible bandit.

((OOC: !:Move action reload, free action to 5ft step behind tree, standard action for casting see invisibility.

2: Move 30ft in a right diagonal, standard action to fire on the not so invisible bandit

3: Move action to reload, Standard to fire on the same target, free to make a 5ft step towards the table))

Grinning at the disarray the group had thrown the bandits in, Mattia pushed his back against the tree. He quickly drew a powder satchel and bullet from his bandolier and stuffed them in to the barrel of his trusty pistol. Dropping on to one knee, he spun out from behind the tree and once more fired upon the bandits.

((OOC: Thanks to the quick reload feat Mattia only needs to spend his movement action to reload. From there he'll target the same bandit he did last time. +9 vs Touch AC; 1d8+1 DMG ))

The party quietly made their way through the woods, following Zick's plan of attempting to sneak around the bandits and take them by surprise. Their pace slowed as they edged closer to a clearing where a well worn hunting lodge resided. Outside they spied their quarry, six armed individuals wearing the red armband of the Crimson Fist.

In hushed tones they quickly devised a plan to take on the bandits as quickly as possible. With the element of surprise they struck. Watching as the others moved in to their positions, Mattia moved his way through the trees to the edge of the clearing and took cover behind a tree. He readied his pistol to fire at the sword wielding bandit sitting at the table on the right.

(OOC: Mattia will move 25ft(5sq) in a diagonal right, towards the edge of the treeline. He'll then fire on the bandit wielding the sword in the middle of the right table. +9 vs Touch AC, 1d8+1 DMG, Up Close costs 1 Grit (3/4) and is another +1d6DMG that does not multiply on a crit, and deals half damage if the attack is a miss. ))

Was looking over my sheet to decide on using grit or not and came upon this.

At 3rd level, as long as the gunslinger has at least 1 grit point, she gains the following benefits. First, she gains a +2 bonus on initiative checks. Furthermore, if she has the Quick Draw feat, her hands are free and unrestrained, and the firearm is not hidden, she can draw a single firearm as part of the initiative check.

So during the initiative roll I can have my weapon ready to fire immediately. Also I will be using Up Close and Deadly to at least deal damage even if I miss, which shouldn't happen unless these guys have a scary high Touch AC

At 1st level, when the pistolero hits a target with a one-handed firearm that is not making a scatter shot, she can spend 1 grit point to deal 1d6 points of extra damage on a hit. If she misses with the attack, she grazes the target, dealing half the extra damage anyway. This is precision damage and is not multiplied if the attack is a critical hit.

If Iara is thinking of charming one of them, I reccommend one of the big ones with the axes. If this is our plan of action Mattia would move to the edge of the treeline, so he'd still have some cover but be within range for his Pistol. From there he'd probably attack whoever tried to go for Iara first and put them down.

As Mattia shook the gnome's hand, he turned his head to the new voice adding to his. "Greetings to you both. Bandit snatching sounds delightful. Please call me Iara." Looking to the woman joining them Mattia felt a shiver run down his spine. There was something off-putting about this woman's looks. She seemed almost porcelain to him, like a master craftsman had created a doll and given it life.

He didn't have much time to put more thought in to it as a dog barked, turned in to a man, and then spoke to them. "I'll help you with those bandits.. That is if you'll take me.". He shook his head, he'd heard of shapeshifters before, but had yet to see one himself. Looking closer at the man he thought to himself he looked more like a mutt in a human shape then he did as a dog. Mattia extended his hand to shake the man's. "We'd be willing to take you I'm sure. What's yer name?"

After greeting the shapeshifter, Mattia turned towards the woman Iara. Sweeping off his hat and bowing to her he spoke. "And pleased to meet you Lady Iara." Standing back up, Mattia placed his hat back upon his head and adjusted the brim to block the sun.

Taking a few moments to double check he had all his gear with him, he waited for the others as they set off towards the location of the bandit raids. Mattia didn't bother asking how she knew where their camp had been set up, he was more concerned with the fact Savis seemed to be entranced by her. As they finally came to the edge of the forest, the afternoon wind slowly covered their sunset with clouds.

"So what did you guys wanna do now?" Looking towards Savis, Mattia crouched down. "I reckon we find a clearing in the woods here and set up camp. That way we have a place to fall back too if need be. Other then that all I can say is search for signs of their activity in the area." Mattia watched as Savis searched around the area, acting more dog then man. He looked to his other two companions to see what they were up to or if they had anything to add. Soon Savis spoke again, "Maybe we should talk to some of the village people. See if they saw something." Mattia shrugged at the suggestion. It wasn't a bad one, it'd just be a matter of finding someone willing to talk.

Mattia is indeed the birdmans name, as for marching order it'd make most sense for him to be in the back with his gun. Also can not fly, but is actually very possible for me to do so with the correct feats.

As for me I'll have a post up by Friday at the latest! Glad we got the game rolling along now

To quickly answer your question about Garuda, they're one of the celestial races in Pathfinder, and a Plumekith is an Aasimar variant descended from them.

Subject: The First Day

Mattia laid in bed for an hour before rising, letting the sun slowly creep through his window. The old man was already awake and in the smithy below. Although it was a festival day, he still worked. It'd been this way for as long as Mattia could remember. He'd always offer to help, but he'd simply be told "Enjoy the Festivities boy, you're still young." And he would, he would spend the whole day, and all the money in his pocket enjoying the bustling city while the old man toiled away.

Dragging his self out of bed, he made his way to the washbasin in his room and stared hard in to the mirror. He'd always known he wasn't the old man's, the feathers, piercing amber eyes, and taloned fingers gave that much away. Of course he was never told why he was left here of all places, at a gunsmith's in the big city. Nobody had ever told him much, other then he was a special child and a blessing upon the smith. Quick of wit and body, he learned quickly in smithing guns alongside the old man. It wasn't long before he started training with the guns he made. Pistol's were what he caught on to the fastest, and what he insisted to the old man on specializing in.

That was three years ago. Much had changed since then. His gunsmithing skills had improved, his gun-slinging had improved, his attitude however, had not. He constantly had butt heads with the old man for constantly disappearing from the smithy and returning late at night, usually with a new collection of scrapes and bruises. The old man always fought with him over it, he'd ask all sorts of questions, never content with the answers he gave. Bar brawls, back alley boxing, all kinds of illegal activities. Mattia would never admit he was acting as some half-assed vigilante. That would get him in more hot water then he already had been.

Sliding in to his mithral shirt and overcoat, Mattia donned his hat and walked out the door with his gear. Turning back to look in to the smithy, he saw the old man toiling away with his back turned. It'd do no good to say anything now, he had made it clear the night before that he was going to be leaving, for good. Stopping himself from looking back, he closed the door and turned away. Today would the first day of his new life, his first day as an adventurer.

It was nearly noon by the time he made his way to the central square where the most of the festivities were. This wasn't a day to be celebrating though, he had to make his way to the bounty board. Mattia sighed, judging by the size of the crowd that had already gathered, it would take him a better part of the afternoon to get to where he needed to be. This was assuming he wasn't distracted by the various events and happenings going on around him. In particular there was a band he had seen before in his youth, although the male Mithra, in a pink dress of all things, was new. After a few songs, Mattia realized he had moved closer to the band then where he had wanted to go. Turning he started making his back through the crowd.

By the time Mattia had managed to reach the bounty board there was not much left on it. There was also a small group of others who were already there as well. Scanning over the posted bounties he sighed. Herb gathering, Farm assistance, Monster slaying, Bandit hunting. The first two did not seem that interesting to him, the last two though caught his eye. That is until a gnome of all things, snatched up the bandit poster. Watching as he hopped up on to the nearby fountain he waited to see what'd happen. "Bandits anyone? I'm thinking a few of us could have some fun and make some coin, all while doing a good deed for the poor people of this community!" Staring towards the grinning gnome, Mattia shook his head. Looking to the others gathered around he spoke up. "Aye, I'd be willing to help out." Stepping towards the gnome he held out his hand, "Name's Mattia, pleased to make your acquaintance."

((OOC: Mattia is quite tall and slim, and looks almost human except for a few key features showing his birthright as a Plumekith. Along his jawline a small plume of colourful red and blue feathers spread. The same feathers spread along his forearms when they aren't hidden in his coat. His hair is short and shaggy, so blonde it's almost white, and his eyes a bright amber with pupils similar to that of a bird. He wears a wide brimmed hat upon his head, and his overcoat almost touches the ground when walking. His outfit underneath is rather plain, knee high tough leather boots, black pants and a black shirt underneath a chainshirt. A bandolier can be seen under the coat loaded with various tools for reloading guns, one of which can be seen holstered on his hip. ))

I sent my PM in already for what I personally am looking/excited for in this game. I'll restate my characters intentions here though for the rest of the party.

As for Mattia, his alliance depends on those who he'd work with. He's Chaotic Neutral, and does his best to follow the teachings of Cayden Cailean. As long as he can adventure freely, and drink in merriment without worry his compatriots betraying him or standing against justice and freedom, he will align himself with the others. Beyond that he's quite the free spirit and if they aren't working together on a job he will more then likely be striking out on his own to explore wherever they may be at the time.
