Subject: Sorry I posted my RP reply twice...

The site is acting strange and I didn't think it was sending so I clicked 'submit' again. First time I tried, I got an error screen saying 'gateway timed out', whatever that means.

Thäoran exhaled an audible sigh of relief and gratitude that they had emerged from that terrible conflict while managing to cling onto their lives.

'Thank you for your most timely and welcome aid, my friend,' the elf smiled warmly at the goliath towering above him. The being was hulking and, Thäoran admitted, rather intimidating but he seemd to be of a friendly and good hearted temperment. To the group at large, he adressed them, raising his voice slightly:

'We must make haste before any of the fiends discover that we still linger near their lair. I rather hoped we would encounter our friend Boris the otter nearby. Perhaps he could have assisted us in locating a safe area to make camp for the night.'

To answer your questions, Jim:

*The Vargolg is a series of tunnels burrowed into the Blacktooth Ridge mountain. It's where the goblins are currently. Their HQ basically. Our party is on a quest to find 2 young boys (farmers) who were kidnapped by the goblins for reasons unknown.

*Botkinberg is the village our party started in. The roleplay started by our party characters (who didn't know each other back then) being hired to guard some caravans that were filled with goods and travellers heading to Botkinberg. We all arrived and met in the tavern and told each other our personal reasons why we were there. My character, Thäoran, for example, is searching for his missing father who was taken by the goblins-or by something else. The mayor or Sheriff (or both, I forgot lol) said that they needed warriors to search for the two missing boys and we were hired.
So here we are.

Btw, Keeper, I do agree with Jim. Do we really want to go back to Vargolg so soon after just almost getting massacred? Won't the goblins be expecting us now?

I was beginning to think we'd never get out alive! Lol.

I wonder if Boris the otter is nearby? Maybe he could help find us a safe place to make camp while we rest and heal our wounds? If not, then perhaps we could find a cave. We're on a mountain, right? Has to be one somewhere.

I'm a newbie to D&D but Nomad is a great DM. He's always there to clarify things I don't understand and I've learned a lot from him. He's my Yoda lol. Nomad takes care of all the dice rolls and stuff.

Subject: Will These Enemies Never Cease?

Thäoran was just beginning to think they had finally deceived their foes and left them behind after Hornet and Gerdar defeated two of the pesky fiends, but yet two more arrived. Gritting his teeth in annoyance and longing for this tedious battle to end, the elf once more knocked an arrow and aimed at the space between the gnoll's menacing, beady eyes. He hoped his night vision would aid him in his attempt to swiftly deal his enemy a death blow.

Subject: D&D Vibes in Books, Shows and Movies: What Have You Read/Watched That Gave You D&D Vibes?

As the (rather long haha) title asks, what are some books/movies/shows that have given you D&D vibes?

For me, the Inheritance Cycle books by Christopher Paolini and The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon feel very D&D-ish. They could easily be made into campaigns (fun ones, foo). Also, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings (books and movies) and the D&D movies and shows themselves, of course. Plus the World of Warcraft movie.

So what about you guys?

Subject: New Ally?

Thäoran was heartened to witness Dok's return to conciousness by the hands of the newcomer. So far, the stranger had proved to be benevolent towards the party. However, Thäoran still wished to know more about their new companion.

'I am indeed grateful to you for saving my friend's life,' the elf started. 'But may I ask your name? And, if I may be so bold. what race you belong to? For you do not appear to be like any human, elf or orc I have seen. Forgive me if I misjudged you for what you are and you are in fact human,' he added hastily, not wishing to offend their new potential ally. 'Also, may I enquire as to why you are passing through such a dangerous area?'

The elf waited the newcomer's answers.

@Jim: Welcome to the Inn, glad to have you. Hope to RP with you for a long time to come lol. Btw, what creature is Uthal?

@Tom: Glad you're back. mate. Welcome back and hope your leg is healing up nicely. Shame you can't cast a spell of healing on it lol. Maybe ask Uthal haha.

@Tann: Good to see you and Silver are back in the game! And that your mum is doing better.

Btw, I'd like Thäoran to become closer with one of the other characters. Who's up for some relationship development with Thäoran an I (er, friendship that is lol)?

Subject: Hopefully, the far shore is within reach...

In the thick blanket of fog, Thäoran's sharp elf eyes could make out the small shape of a goblin close behind their newest ally Gerdar-which meant the little fiend wasn't far behind him, either.

I have to try and prevent him from pursuing us any further, or at least hobble him so my friends can dispatch him more easily, the elf decided.

So Thäoran drew his bow, nocked and arrow, and aimed as best he could at the shadowy form of the goblin behind Gerdar, taking great care not to srike the dwarf by mistake. The thick fog was oscuring a lot of his surroundings so it was difficult to judge exactly where the goblin was. He just had to hope his aim was true...

But the elf didn't linger to find out. As soon as the shaft flew from his bow, he continued fording the river another 30ft, hoping this time he would make it to the other bank where his companions were wating.

Quick question:
There's a goblin just over 5ft behind Thäoran. I assume it's just over 5ft behind him because Gerdar is 5ft behind Thäoran and the gobln is just a little bit behind Gerdar. So prabably 6 or 7ft or so. Anyway, the goblin is close behind Thäoran so if Thäoran were to travel 30ft in the next turn (not a flat out dash, just the pace he's been going the past turn), would that provoke an attack of opportunity from the goblin? Also, could Thäoran flat out dash, or would that provoke an attack of opportinity?

Subject: Screams in the Fog...

Thäoran hoped his Minor Illusion spell had lasted long enough to fool the pesky goblins and get them off their backs. He held the spell in place for as long as he could, but he knew he could not afford to linger lest his enemies stumble upon him in the murky, grey blanket of fog. Ending his incantation, the elf continued on his way across the river another 30ft. Before he had gone very far, however, he heard the high, gurgled screams of a goblin a few feet behind him and he paused a few moments, wondering who it was that had slain the fiend. Then he decided it didn't matter that much at the moment and he concentrated on making the 30ft across the river. But it still gnawed at his mind wether the killer of the little beast was friend or foe...

Thäoran took Soledad's queue and likewise hastened a much needed retreat. The longer they stood still, the higher the chances the fiendish goblins and mighty bugbears would discover them-even while the thick fog enveloped the river in a cool, damp grey blanket. While maintaining the shadows of the Minor Illusion spell, the Eldritch Knight elf made his way 30ft across the river.

What are we going to do? Do you want to stay standing in the same place until the enemy sees our spells or continue on forging the river?

Subject: Shadow Puppets

Thäoran acknowledged his fellow elf's words, giving Hornet a curt nod. He left the unconcious dwarf in his hands and made his way 30ft into the thick fog that was spreading its ghostly tendrils over the surface of the river. Upon seeing Soledad's Dancing Lights spell, Thäoran cast an incantation of his own to accompany it and, he hoped, would bolster the appearance that the party was moving in the opposite direction to what they really were. The elf cast a Minor Illusion to summon a shadow in the fog of what seemed to be the silhouettes of the party fleeing in the same direction as the Dancing Lights. With luck, their enemies would mistake the two spells as if the party really was travelling in that direction when in actuality, they were going in the opposite direction. He sincerely hoped this plan worked, otherwise they could soon be nothing but corpses sleeping with the fishes in the freezing waters of the river.

Question before I post:

I'd like to get into the fog and cast my illusion spell as quickly as possible so the goblins, bugbears and Gnolls (are there still Gnolls, or did we kill them all?) are hopefully fooled straight away. This hopefully would give us more time to escape. As I understand it, I can move Dok into the fog AND cast Minor Illusion in the same round, correct?

If we go into the fog, our enemies won't be able to see us, but we won't be able to see them, either. But I think we should go into the fog. Besides, I have a plan I want to try with the fog.

Can the Minor Illusion spell bend the fog into new shapes?
