Actually, I just thought: Legion doesn't have Darkvision, so it would be harder to travel and fight just at night.

It's up to you guys: travel during the day, or travel during the night?

Before I post my next DM post, quick question:
Azax is an Owlin. Owls are nocturnal. The party is setting up camp for the night. I know Azax has been awake all day, so he's probably going to be tired, but I'm wondering wether he will sleep at night, being an owl. And what about in future? Do you want me to do it where the party travels during the night and sleeps during the day?

Subject: Waiting For An Opportunity

Thäoran, still unable to discern anything through the thick blanket of dust that stubbornly continued to cling in the air, held his ground behind the boulder he had saught shelter. Unfortunately, the elf couldn't tell if his attempt at a distraction had been successful, so he stayed where he was. If he was unable to see the naga through the dust, then it stood to reason that the naga would be unable to see the elf. He kept a ready grip on the hilt of his rapier in preparation for any attack, however.

((OOC: Thäoran isn't really doing anything this turn. Just waiting for the dust to settle, really.))

Subject: Currency

So...I've decided to move away from the generic platinum, gold, silver and bronze and get creative and make up my own names for the different coins:

Draconia: Highest value. 1 draconia is worth 100 leich. The coin has a picture of a dragon holding a sword on one side and dragon's head (just the head, so a side view profile) on the other.

Stagma: second highest value. 1 coin is worth 50 leich. Coin has a picture of a stag standing on a hill one side and on the other, the head of a stag looking straight at the viewer with symmetrical horns.

Leich: lowest value. Takes 100 leich to make 1 draconia and 50 leich to make 1 stagma. Coin has a picture of an oak tree on one side and a raven in flight on the other.

Hope that made sense lol.

Oops, might have misread lol. Googled it again and Tom's right. No darkvision.

And to answer your question, Tom, yes the orc did have arrows. He also had a dagger and a short sword.

Are you going to loot the orcs you killed and the orc you tied up? If so, this is what you find on them (altogether in total):
3 draconias, 10 stagmas and 20 leiches (currency of the realm. I'll explain more in a minute)
3 quivers of arrows. 1 full, the other 2 half full. (That's including the one from the orc you tied up)
5 daggers (yep, including the one from the orc you tied up)
7 lots of rations (including hard, dried jerky, biscuits and bread that's a bit mouldy)
A 30ft length of rope
Flint and iron pyrites (for starting campfires)

Thäoran felt in front of him blindly through the dust and his slender hands came into contact with a cold, rough surface. Boulders. Swiftly ducking behind them, he replaced his bow and arrow back into their tube and quiver and drew his father's rapier. His face became grim because he disliked what he was about to do to the precious weapon, but he couldn't think of anything else. Rising just enough to extend his arm over the top of the boulder, he threw the blade into the dust. Of course, he couldn't hope to hit the serpent, but he hope the resulting metallic clanging as the steel came into contact with the rocky ground would distract the naga and give his companions a chance. The elf waited for a few moments before summoning the blade back with weapon bond. He was relieved to have the familiar feeling of the hilt in his hand again. He just hoped his plan would succeed. He then readied the rapier in a firm grip, his catlike eyes alert for any sign of movement.

Subject:

Is there any cover (large boulders, a corner or such) near Thäoran that he can see?

Also, quick question about weapon bond: can I throw the weapon I've bonded with and summon it back on the same turn? Or does it make me weaponless for a turn? I'm planning to throw my rapier (the weapon I've weapon bonded with) and hope the resulting clattering sound when it hits the ground distracts the naga. Then, if it does distract it, summon my rapier back straight after.

So could I say something like 'Thäoran throws his rapier into the dust, hoping to distract the naga. He can't see the naga, so he can't see if it's been distracted or not, but he waits a few moments and summons his rapier back.' And would all that be in the same turn, or would the naga's reaction to the rapier (if there is a reaction) count as its turn, then me summoning my rapier back count as my second turn?

I know, that was very confusing haha. Hope you got that lol.

Yep, the orc was talking about the stronghold you're going to (princess' antidote's stronghold). And yep, the mysterious 'him' is way higher up than the boss of the stronghold. The boss of the stronghold is a gnat in rank comparison lol. That's how much higher up 'he' is.

Subject: Questions For The Prisoner

The wounded orc grunted in a mixture of pain and frustration as he sensed the tides of the conflict turning against him and his cowardly companion. Little fool. If that runt would assist, then maybe there would be a chance to slay, or at least escape from, their attackers. The orc banged his large, meaty fist on the wall of the caravan and roared at the terrified orc huddled inside, then shouted something in Orcish, to which the smaller orc squeaked a reply which seemed to only infuriate the injured orc further.

The winged warrior, Azax the Owlin, didn't wait for them to finish their squabble. Instead, the owl-man, hovering expertly on his broad wings (OOC: can Owlin hover?)), the young fighter nocked another arrow into his trusty bow and drew it with a sure touch. The blazing sun lingered low on the horizon, the final rays beginning to dissipate for another day, thus giving way to the rapidly gathering gloom of dusk. But the Owlin's large, keen eyes served him well, his nightvision enabling to pinpoint his target-the wounded orc-even as the darkness was swiftly descending. The Owlin let fly his arrow, the shaft heading straight and true towards the beast's heart-and squarely embedded itself in the broad chest of the brute, felling the fiend with a sound that was a mix between a gutteral roar and a grunt.

Azax, deciding that the remaining orc would not attempt to fight them (if he were going to, he would have done it by now, he thought), glided towards the rough ground, backflapping a couple of times as he came in to land. He approached the caravan where the traders, who had been taking refuge behind their vehicle, were now beginning to wearily stand, fear still etched into their pale faces, but becoming bolder and more confident now that the threat seemed to have been thwarted by unexpected heroes.

A man of around 5'11 with grizzled features and a rough unkempt beard and moustache that showed he had been on the road for a long time, approached Azax and Legion.

'Thank you, my friends,' he smiled, his voice rough but kind. 'Your assistance was greatly appreciated. I dread to think what would have happened if you hadn't arrived when you did. Our clients will also be pleased to learn that their wares have not been taken by those fiends. But I'm afraid attacks like these have become all too common as of late.' He uttered a weary sigh and his concern was mirrored by his companions. 'I have been travelling these lands for nigh on twenty years,' he continued, 'and never have I seen the orcs assault us with such startling regularity. It has become so bad that people have been afraid to send their goods by land, so we have had a severe drop in the number of people who will hire caravaners like us. Thus, we have earned very little coin this year and I'm afraid things will only get worse. This cannot be allowed to continue! How will we secure enough funds to survive if no one will hire our services? But please, do not trouble yourself with our woes, you have done more than enough for us already. Er, could you please remove that filthy beast from my caravan?'

With a purposeful march, which emitted a series of metallic clanging crashes as the warforged's iron boots hit the rocky ground, Legion reached into the dark interior of the vehicle, rummaged around for a moment, then felt his armoured hand brush against cloth. Grasping it firmly, he dragged the terrified, squeaking little orc out into the open, the creature's beady eyes wide, the white slightly luminous in the gloom. The orc kicked and wriggled furiously and once even attempted to bite Legion's hand with his needle-like little fangs, but the automiton's thick iron armour protected him. Grasping the orc firmly on his narrow shoulders, the warforged gave him a meaningful, cold stare. The orc swallowed fearfully, fell silent and ceased his fruitless struggles.

'Thank you,' the man nodded to Legion, 'now, please wait there, I have something for you as a token of our appreciation,' then, lighting a lamp, he took it and climbed into the interior of the caravan where he stayed for a minute or two. The sounds of boxes being scraped across the wooden floor as he pushed them aside and of metallic object tapping against each other in a discordant chorus, reached them until, finally, the trader emerged holding something wrapped in an intricately embroidered cloth. 'I was going to sell them to some rich folk in the east, but I think they would be put to far better use in your hands.'

Gently, he unwrapped the items, revealing two ornate mirrors, their frames made of gold that sparkled in the last rays of the waning sun. Carved into the metal of each mirror were runes of an ancient tongue and owls both in flight and perched on tiny branches, their eyes staring blankly. And at the bottom of the tree the owls were perched on, coiled a slumbering dragon, its tailed wrapped around the trunk like a large serpent.

'These,' the man explained, looking at them fondly, 'are the Mirrors of Farsight, or Scrying Mirrors. Owls are carved around the mirrors' frames because their large eyes see much and that is also the function of the mirrors: to see far further than normal. The dragon because it symbolises knowledge-well that's one of the things it symbolises, anyway-and that is another function of the mirrors: to help you gather knowledge in far off places. If you utter a certain incantation-which I will teach you-your face will appear in the other mirror, allowing you to see and communicate with whoever is in possesion of the other mirror, no matter how far they may be. However, I'm afraid Scrying demands a lot of energy to use as the magic must traverse a large distance and, of course, the further apart you are, the more strength and energy will be required of you, so be mindful of that. These I gift to you.' He solemnly wrapped the precious artifacts back in their protective cloth and handed them to Azax who then placed them in his horse's saddlebag between two bits of clothing to further guard them from harm. The man then taught Azax and Legion the incantations required for activating and deactivating the mirrors.

'We thank you for such a precious gift,' Azax nodded gratefully. 'We will be sure to put them to good use during our travels. Now,' he continued, turning on the orc still held in Legion's vice-like embrace, 'we have a prisoner to interrogate, if you'll excuse us.'

'Do with him what you will,' the man replied grimly, glaring coldly at the orc, 'he has no sympathy from me. We need to be off without delay. We're behind schedule as it is, thanks to those fiends stalling us. Safe travels, my friends!'

With that, he jumped into the driver's seat, his companions settling into the back of the caravan, and, with some coaxing to his still nervous mare, set off on the winding road to the east. Azax and Legion raised their hands in farewell, then the Owlin turned on their prisoner. Switching to the orcs' barbaric tongue, he said in a low voice 'I have questions for you, orc. Do not attempt to deceive us, or withold any information,' he warned. The little creature peered up at the much larger Owlin, his eyes still large, wide orbs above his sharp, beaked nose. He nodded sharply, reminiscent of a bird bobbing its head (which would have been comical if the situation wasn't so grim).
((OOC: I'll do the Q&A in a script style like a play, so it's clear and easy to understand))

AZAX: 'Where did you come from?'

ORC: 'From the Spireridge mountains' (he jerked his head towards the peaks ahead of them). 'In the westernmost area, near the ocean.' (This confirmed that the information the king had given them about the location of the orc stronghold was very likely true)

AZAX: 'Why attack the caravan?'

ORC: 'Well, why else?' (He gave a rather nasty smirk) 'Profits, of course. Those caravans hold precious treasure which we can sell for good coin.' (Azax sensed the orc was hiding something so he gave a sharp hiss ((OOC: do owls hiss when they're irritated?)) to encourage him to divulge more information) 'I d-don't know where it g-goes. Nobodies like me are hardly told anything. But I did hear that our bosses don't keep all the money and goods for themselves. A lot of it goes...somewhere else. To someone else. I-I swear, th-that's all I know!' (He stammered as Azax's feathered brows lowered menacingly)

AZAX: 'Why so close to the city?'

ORC: 'We do what we're told.' (The orc shrugged as best he could under Legion's heavy hands that were still holding him firmly) 'The bosses say that the winds are changing, whatever that means...It's made them bolder than I've ever known them. I could hardly believe my ears when I was ordered to take part in this raid so close to a human city! It's madness! The humans have many soldiers. But their soldiers have been busy fending off wyverling attacks so that made it easier for us to plunder caravans at will. I don't know why the wyverlings have been attacking so often and so close to a large human dwelling, they usually keep inside the bounderies of their woods and mountains. Anyway, with the human army distracted, our bosses decided now was a good a time as any to try and steal what we can.'

AZAX: 'What treasure do you have?'

ORC: 'Oh, the usual. Gold, jewels, rare spices, exotic cloth from overseas. But...there was something...else. The bosses were keeping very hush hush about it, but I did overhear one of them telling one of the guards to "protect it upon pain of death. If it gets taken or destroyed, he will show you his wrath". I don't what it is and I haven't the foggiest who "he" is, either. Must be someone very high up with immense power because of the way the boss talked about him with a hushed voice and fear on his face...' (the orc shuddered) 'I don't want to meet whoever he is, that's for sure. And I'm glad I'm not involved with that object, whatever it is. Seems like too much trouble for me.'

AZAX: ((OOC: I know Azax didn't originally ask this question, but I thought it would be an obvious question to ask. Nomad, you didn't know of this special item that the mystery person is so protective over, of course, so obviously you didn't initially ask this question): 'Where is this item?'

ORC: 'Y-you want to go after it?' (The orc squeaked in surprise) 'It's too well guarded, I'm telling you. You'll never make it, it's suicide. But if you insist, it's at the stronghold where I came from. The one in the west of the mountains. On the top floor. That's why I said it would be too hard because there's orcs everywhere. You defeated my companions handily enough, but there were only a few of us. That stronghold is a major trading post for my kind so it's heavily populated. It's up to you wether you want to try aquiring the item or not.'

AZAX: 'Who sent you here?'

ORC: ((OOC: Now I'm not familiar with orc names and how their names are, so I'm making up my own. Sorry if they're not very orcish haha)) 'Boss Uk'tar. He's a chief of the western tribe. My tribe. Though he's currently in the stronghold and his son, Gargath, is temporarily filling in as acting chief until his father returns.'

AZAX: 'Who else have you attacked and where?'

ORC: 'Me specifically? This is my first time. But others have been pillaging as far as Evantärí in the east, which, as you know, is an elven capital. Capital of the surface elves, of course, not the drow. Also, the Vardûne mountains, home of the dwarves, in the south. I don't know why the orcs have spread so far and wide and attacking such dangerous locations.'
AZAX: 'Were you sent to do anything specific?'

ORC: 'Not my band, personally. It seems we were just sent to steal what we could for easy coin, but others were sent to raid caravans that held medicine. We know the king suffers from a rare malady, brought upon by a spell of the darkest magic. He needs to have a specific potion to fend of its potentially deadly effects. Of course he prefers that this were not common knowledge. A king cannot afford to appear weak, lest his enemies and rivals were to make a reach for his crown and kingdom. Oh, and another band of orcs stole the antidote to the basilisk venom that the princess so desperately needs.' (He said that because, of course, he didn't know that you already knew they'd stolen the antidote to the venom) 'I-is that it? Have I answered all your questions? Did I serve you well? Well enough for you to spare me?' (He peered at Azax pleadingly).

Now Azax and Legion had a few choices to make:

Would they spare the orc and set him free, slay him, or spare him but bind him to a tree or rock?

And what of this mysterious item the orcs were so closely guarding? It must be something very precious and important to them and 'him'-whoever 'he' is. If Azax and Legion could take it from them, it may deal a blow to the orcs and this mysterious boss of theirs. Would they attempt to steal it along with the princess' antidote?

((OOC: Feel free to discuss things in the Q&A thread before posting!))
