'The Sheriff of Botkinberg has promised us 2gp for each right goblin ear we present to him,' Thäoran answered in response to Uthal enquirey. 'Plus 50gp for each Molkin twin we rescue,' the elf added.
Thäoran raised his father's rapier, the elf's slender hand getting a more thorough grip on the blade's hilt as his sapphire cat-like eyes gazed determidly at the foes before him. Elves were tall, but the two brutes that faced them were taller still. The beasts loomed a good 5 inches above him. Still, he did not allow that to deter and cower him and he shifted the angle of his body slightly so as to aim at the bugbear on the right. His goal was to slay the fiend or, failing that, at least keep the monster distracted long enough for the rest of the party to scale the cliff and join them on the plateau. The elf aimed a swift, horizontal slash at the bugbear's bulging belly while with the other, prepared to block any counterattack his enemy may deliver, either to himself (Thäoran) or to any of his fellow companions who had yet to reach the platform.
((OOC: So what Thäoran is doing is attacking as normal but also using Shield to attempt to block a counterattack from the Bugbear. He will try and block whatever attack the bugbear delivers, wether the attack is aimed at Thäoran or someone else. I'm not 100% sure how this works. Can Thäoran use his shield to defend someone else if they're being attacked? Using your shield is a bonus action, right? Meaning you can attack and defend from a counterattack on the same turn?))

Hey, guys.
I'm thinking of attempting my own freeform campaign very loosely based on Corwyn. If you haven't heard of it, information can be found on this link:

The rough history is:
In the ancient past, the evil Chromatic Dragons sought to dominate the other races and very nearly succeeded, but the surface elves (good elves) allied themselves with the Metallic Dragons and together they drove the Chromatic Dragons into remote, secluded lands. There, the Chromatic Dragons lived and bided their time, waiting for an opportunity to attempt an uprising.
That time has now come. In an unlikely turn of events, the Chromatic Dragons have joined forced with the Drow (Dark-Elves). However, all this is merely rumour as of yet as the Chromatic Dragons and Drow have yet to publicly reveal their presence and alliance. That will come later. But there are signs that the realm has entered a period of unrest: orcs, goblins and other fiendish beasts have become bolder, sensing a dark power rising. They have taken to pillaging and killing more often than before. Wyverlings (my own made up creature. I'll give info on it later) and cockatrices have been seen flocking and rading settlements in greater numbers. The millitaries of the various sentient races have been called to counter these threats that are becoming all too common.
And it is this that draws the players' party together (of course, you may write your characters' own personal reasons for coming to the city in the first place, but ultimately the ruler of the city hires you all for the job). A basilisk has bitten the ruler's daughter and infected her with its deadly poison. Her father has entrusted you with the task of procuring the antidote which can be found in an orcs' stronghold in the nearby mountain range. This is your first quest. The ruler's trusted mage has cast a ward upon his daughter to slow down the progression of the poison, but even he cannot eradicate it entirely.
So, this is the basics. Of course, we'll flesh it out as we go along. This thread is to discuss the campaign (ask any questions, express your interest and whatnot) before the campaign starts.

So Thäoran has the spell called 'shield' and the ability called protection (I looked in my DMs where Nomad sent me Thäoran's stats, spells and stuff). The DM Nomad sent me said that shield can be used as a bonus action. So could I attack the bugbear AND protect myself using Shield/Protection as well? I want to attack the bugbear and protect myself from a counterattack.
Also, could I attack the bugbear and use Shield/Protection to defend someone else? So I attack the bugbear, then defend someone else (not me) from an attack? I could attack the bugbear and then defend the party members who are still climbing up from an attack.
One last question: Is Shield a spell, or just a bonus action? Do I have to have a long/short rest before I can use it again? And what about Protection? Do I have to rest before I can use that again?

Looks like Uthal and Thäoran have made it onto the ledge together and we're facing two bugbears. Do you want to work together and have both of us attack the same bugbear, or do you want to split our attacks and have us attack one each?

Thäoran continued dashing (yep, using my dash action) towards the ledge after the bugbears, the elf covering 30ft of the rough terrain (I assume. Half movement speed). The elf was determined to catch his quarry.

Are bugbears a playable race, or are they NPC baddies only? What about goblins/hobgoblins? Just wondering if, in D&D, the players can have literally any race/class as a character to play as, or are there certain lines that can't be crossed and certain races/classes you can't play as?

The Sheriff or Mayor (forgot which) of Brotkinburg is offering the reward on goblin ears. Bit of a strange thing to recieve a reward for haha. Don't know what he's going to do with them once he gets them lol.
And yes, just the ears get us the reward. Nothing else.

Thäoran kept his grip firmly on the hilt of his rapier as he continued to chase after the Bugbears (using my dash action), a little annoyed of the rough and rocky terrain that prevented him from moving at full speed.

Thäran knew the bugbears must be taken down as soon as possible lest they call for reinforcements so, putting away his bow and drawing his rapier, the elf sprung after Hornet to try and close the gap between him and the beasts as quickly as he could.

Frowning a little in exasperation, Thäoran drew his rapier and aimed a slash at the lefternmost goblin's legs in the hopes of wounding him or at least tripping him up so the elf's companions could finish him off.
The Eldrritch Knight had seen enough of these foul fiends to last him the rest of his immortal life, but he knew they would inevitably encounter more if and when they finally broke into the Vargolg.

Thäoran nocked another arrow as he followed his companions up the path towards the pyre. Hopefully, things would go better than last time and they'd finally get inside the Vargolg. The elf kept a watchful eye for goblins as he went, in case the nasty little fiends had crept up on them without them noticing.
