Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Wandering through Desk 2 - 1655

Louise frowned in thought as hails went unanswered. Then she looked at the time on her PADD. "Great ghost, woman, they are at their dinner. And they need it. A report won't be the worst thing ever received. Lords and ladies, they have enough to handle with ambassadors and-- what in the devil is that alert? Security to medical?"

Tugging herself at a quickened pace, she sought out the nearest turbo lift to hit deck 4. She tapped at the PADD as data started flowing across the screen in a flurry of hues, some little war of alerts and scan updates from sensors in use. "Seems never a dull moment. At least nothing is amiss here in the ambassadorial area. Deck 4." The turbo lift doors closed as she stared back hoping they would stay that way.

A report sent along to Zai and Drake over the blight of their previous Chief Thorson. He was in stable condition, suffering from a strange nano command issue as code and synapse algorithm were constantly rewriting themselves, causing increasing issues between mental commands, nerve impulses, and encode responses of the cyber limb.

If I didn't want to be called a looney, I'd say it was as if the limb had come to life and was either trying to live from the cranial commands or it got a strange case of AI infestation. Is that even possible in a limb? The notes continued with a list of specialists and further information that he was in the best of care for determining and remedying the issue.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Wandering through Desk 2 - 1705

The lift opened to deposited the good doctor on deck 4, Louise exiting and still reading over charts and sensor scans as she went. Members of security and Crewman Adler passed her without much acknowledgment. Then she noticed the name of the incident report. Bachmann."What in the blazes did Ryan do...?"

=/= Petty Officer Cook to Dr. Moore, you are needed in Sickbay. =/=

Rather than click the comms, she quickened the pace until the Sickbay doors swished open.

((OOC she'll enter right after BooBoo's 1710 post))

Dark brown hair with peppering of white and grey in a loosened bun gave the entire mess of folk from Bachmann laid out in a medical bay, Adler at work with diagnostics over a bulkhead and nearby sensor equipment, and a few security personnel caught between questioning anyone in sight and standing down. As always, the dutiful Chief Cook was right in the center keeping the storm in order.

Nearing the chief at her desk, she kept her look and tone even, eyes filled with questions. "Dana, I've come quick as I could." She held up the PADD, voice tilted to keep their conversation between them. "I started receiving the sensor scans and updates. Is this right? Ryan Bachmann was hit by a malfunction or some such from Station Two?"

((OOC assuming some responses from Cook, description of things ))

Louise gave a nod, giving Dana her full attention. She lifted the PADD again, swiping across to locate more of the live recorded sensor scans, comparing them to the first. "His adrenals are in far better levels. But these readings give me a bit of pause. I wonder, they look a tad like Thorson's, though perhaps off due to the lack of cyberization."

((OOC assuming Cook has the same thoughts and conclusions))

"Well, having engineering look over the bay is important. And Thorson was in that bay. Far too close to be a coincidence. Have you completed medical scans of the bulkhead he came into contact with?"

((OOC more interactions as you like! I'll respond back as you do. ))

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Sickbay - 1235

"Thank you, Dana. Carry on, I'll be in my office compiling reports for a time. If you need me..."

After the release of Thorson to the station medical teams, Louise extricated herself from the team. Dana had tight hold over the nurses and crewman, a voice that could stop a crowd in full riot brought their attention to what they did right and wrong.

The swish of door brought a quiet and peace she needed before the next steps to take. Taking deep breaths she moved to the replicators for a blistering hot pot of water, dropping a single dark bulb into it. Slowly it opened, changing the waters red then russet brown, a single flower dark petaled blooming in the center. Caimmer tea, quite the acquired taste of sweet spice.

Settling with a cup steaming from the pot, she pulled up Thorson's records, recordings from his incident with the pod and seizure. Tapping a com, she opened communications with the starbase. "Doctor Morgan here."

=Nurse Creis here, doctor. I suspect you call on the arrival of Chief Thorson.=

"Quite so. I realize Doctor Meider is well established in his field and may be reviewing the logs. But I wanted to take time going over them with him, and perhaps bring in another mind on the matter."

Flipping open an old book cover with fresh stark blue pages bound within, she sped past old notes and tucked in cards in a flowing script. Finally she found the name and note. "There's a science officer, Mait, I met in tenure at Starbase 101. A fine minded Bolian and expert in maters of biomechanics. Besides, he owes me a bit of favor."

=I'll inform Doctor Meider, doctor.=

"Please do. I'll contact Mait, if you can schedule a bit of time with Meider." She cut the communications to finish her cup of tea, thoughts a whirlwind.

Taking up her PADD, she entered a quick report to send along to senior staff.

Chief Thorson suffered a medical emergency at 1155. Medical sedated and moved the chief to sickbay, later transferred to starbase for further tests. He is heavily sedated but in good hands. I am personally ensuring his care and will provide updates. -Morgan

Brows furrowing, a com chirp caught her attention. "Morgan, Meider here. What the devil happened?" A screen came to life with a white haired ruffled looking man, shaggy mop of hair and matching mustache.

"If only we knew. Is the 'cortical capturing data, seeing any further flickers every 5 seconds in the stream?" Her expression must have worried him.

"Indeed, but what it means..."

A third voice interjected with a slight clipping to it. "Doctors, I may be able to assist." A second window opened with the doggedly stoic blue face of Mait, eyes looking off perhaps at a PADD.

"Then let's get to work shall we?"

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Sickbay - 1540

Everything creaked and popped as Louise rose for a fourth pot of tea. The coms closed a few minutes before, the doctors and science officer only a touch closer to any real answers. She just couldn't leave the chief in their hands without exhausting her own aid. And none seemed to have emergencies here aboard ship. In fact, it seemed damned quiet.

Little did she really know the tumult.

Leaving through sickbay, she gave a nod and a few words to those working their shifts. None of the beds were filled thankfully. Patel and Adama took the updated PADD she passed along, making an exit to the turbolift. She tapped her com along the way. "Captain Drake, Lieutenant Zai, if you've a moment, I'd like to meet on Chief Thorson's condition."

She felt it best to give this news to the Silas and Tochi than leaving it to some cold report.

(OOC: Doc's on the move! Coming to chat and what not. She'll meet whoever and start getting around to others. )

Everything she had considered seemed a touch true, or perhaps it was something else. Any scant time she could spare was spent looking over detailed logs before and after the incident, and yet Louise found nothing irregular.

Yet here Thorson laid with Dana hovering and nurses deeply reviewing scans and prepping sedatives as needed. He laid, never moving beyond the simplicity of breath in an induced sleep with levels of sedatives deeper and stronger than she hoped to use. We need to figure this puzzle out, poor chap. I don't like keeping you so stilled.

"I don't know Doctor," Dana said to Doctor Moore, "it almost looks like something is causing his body to reject the implants."

Eyes still watching the mountain of an officer, Louise gave a slight nod. "I've a few theories, Dana. But we are at a loss to test them fully at this time. The receptors and muscles seem in sync, but something of the neural pathways... I had a thought of using a neurocortical monitor to capture the synaps and responses alongside live log captures from the biofeedback relays."

"We don't know what is causing this problem Doctor," Dana went on, "but I do know that we do not have the necessary equipment or specialist in cybernetic implants onboard to handle this situation properly."

"We will be leaving the Starbase soon," She turned to look at the Doctor, "I suggest we transfer him to Starbase 18 immediately."

Giving a frustrated sigh, Louise could only agree. "Too true. We should have him transferred. Get the paperwork underway and have a shuttle transfer him in a medical bed. I'll compile his records, my thoughts on diagnosis options, and get the 'cortical monitor started. Move with a mission, dears."

"OK," Dana said as she turned to the rest of the medical staff that had been called if for this emergency, "We have only minutes before they seal us up for departure."

"Miraan & Patel, you will accompany me in taking the Chief Thorson to the Starbase."

"PO Adama," turning to him, "you contact SB medical and send over the data we have currently and tell them to meet us at the airlock. Tell them to hurry."

"Reynolds,"Dana said, " prepare another hypo of sedative for me; we want to be prepared just incase he starts to act up again. "

"Come on, let's move people."

As Dana took full control of the situation, Louise made quick work of a recording of thoughts, her initial plans to his records. Taking a neurocortical monitor from stores, she placed it below his right ear. With a few clicks and scanner taps, the logs came to life with readings and responses. A flicker of strange readouts caught her eye, but it would be up to other staff to learn the truth to this mystery.

Leaning to his ear, she whispered, "Good luck, Thorson. You'll be in good hands."

Less than a minute later, PO Cook lead Miraan & Patel as they guided the hover gurney bearing the stable, and thankfully unconscious, Chief Thorson to the airlock. There they handed over his care to the SB medical personnel who had shown up to take charge of him. Dana stood there for a moment watching as they whisked him away and the airlock door closed as the ship prepared to departure.

Dana turned slowly away and said a slient prayer that he would be alright. She didn't like giving up injured patients, but she knew he would have a better chance of surviving on the Starbase than aboard the Perregrine.

"Wine? Now aren't we the fine gent? I'll never be one to turn it aside. Now where's that lute." Pepper dug about and pulled free a lute that had seen far better days in some other bard's hands. In hers, it would do for now until their own friend had regained his own composure.

"The entire journey was a rather frightful one. And I can't say I've ever had the experience before of facing...Oh what did you call it, Vengey? A ghoul?" Her fingers tripped along the chords tuning them, though her eyes kept watching their friendly companions at the table for any responses as she spoke. Especially that last bit. Though she felt rather daft not having a whit of understanding what that thing was.

"Dead walking...mists rising...pilgrims of Lysora assaulted. Seems like a tragic bardic tale of misfortune. Not another week on the road!"

Dr Moore heard the call of Zai over the comms, giving a light mmhmm in response. As they arrived on the scene, moving quickly now they were far enough away from ambassadorial prying eyes, Louise took in the situation.

Dana gave the chief a sedative in a leg right ready to trash and kick. The good doctor nodded to Reynolds who likewise threw his strength in to hold the patient still. The mountain of a man had strength, and a mechanical arm, coupled with a seizure any further calamities were entirely possible.

Soon the sedation calmed the physical nerves, enough for Louise to edge around and slap a neural sensor array at the base of Thorson's neck. Wiping out a tricorder, she began reviewing the telemetry. "I would increase dosage, 20 mm, Cook. Reynolds, not too tight on that shoulder. He could have sympathetic reactions."

((OOC assuming the changes are made))

"He's easing, but I wouldn't consider us far from the woods. The sensors show his mind is quite a hub of activity, but the responses on those neurons from the arm, it's a strange mess of signals. I'm a tad bit out of my depth when it comes to the mechanics of those pistons, the cyber arrays, and these neural responders."

"Dana," she offered across her tricorder as she heard the arrival of Zai. "Keep monitoring him, any fluctuation, hit him up with another dose then shift this inhibitor." She tapped at the screen. "It should be enough to keep the arm from flailing and hurting himself or others."

((ooc assuming she accepts))

Straightening her longcoat, Louise neared Zai as he took stock and asked what more could be done. "There is. We need someone of the chief's caliber to understand the requests and responses we are receiving from the arm. Something in the servos are sending radical amounts of data to his neural receptors. I daresay, his mind couldn't take the load of information and simply shut down. But a seizure, points to something else, something affecting his biochemistry and those signals." She glanced to the other engineers. "We need a mechanical expert to help us. We can get him moved for now. But keeping him sedated is best until these receptors can be dealt with."

((Assuming responses and actions))

Another arrived with quite the Scottish accent to make dear Louise feel right at home. Her own British tones giving a quiet affirmative. "Chief McTavish, we'll have him steadied and ready for review. When you've a moment, and a chance to review Chief Thorson's medical records, we could use an engineer's understanding of his prosthetic."

Tapping her comm, she ordered a hover stretcher and restraints to help take Thorson to medical. "Sick Bay with us. Let's keep the chief most comfortable and start analyzing this data."

The trip to Crandel was an odd sort of thing for Pepper. Despite trying to smile and strike up conversations, she couldn't quite shake the feelings of unease and worry at dead things. Dead things that still moved. Dead things that giggled. In the thrice hells, that was nigh enough to kill her humor!

She kept to the pilgrims and the fine priests. If trouble came, she would fight. But for once, she hoped for the luck of Shinara.

Finally in Crandel, settled in for a nice pork stew and ale, she felt the return of good humor and better tales. The pair of travelers sharing their table was a welcome sight, even the wary or loud locals she might hug in thanks for driving back this bad day.

Lips tugging into a dimpled grin, she gave a flip off and back on of a two toned leather cap in faded blue and red. "Well met, in return. Nor do we recall seeing yourselves, and likewise welcome word of the roads beyond. The weather made a merry muddy mess of things, enough to suck your boots off into a mire."

With a lean in, voice lowering a touch, she added. "More unsettling though was a mist and bit of trouble that giggled and shouldn't be moving but did. Enough to say, be wary that way. Even in the day. Though a fair group of Lysoran pilgrims swore the night be worse."

She gave the marred lady and common gent a friendly enough eye back, returning to a more relaxed smile. "Pepper's the name, tale teller. These are goodly friends, travelers all."

Despite the welcome, the common conversation, she hoped the more astute in the group would watch for reactions from this pair.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine, Sick Bay Doctor's office - 1214

Louise sipped at a lukewarm cup of tea continuing her doctor's journal. She flipped between the PAD of engineering reports and a medical console displaying the recorded medical scans of Chief Thorson.

"Doctor Synclar's scans and notes confirm the diagnostics from engineering. Thorson's adrenal levels were within the norm after such a shock. Muscle interfaces clear of issue. No signal interference with receptors. All in the green. Unfortunately, any jolts of adrenaline, no remains of glutamate from shock, nothing caught in logs at the time of the incident."

She squinted in thought. "Perhaps I should visit with a neural recorder, shock his system with adrenals, and scan activity--"

=/=Petty Officer Toporov to Sickbay! Doctor Moore, we have a medical emergency in main engineering - Commander Thorson is having some sort of seizure!=/=

She tapped her com back to Toporov, dropping the PAD and grabbing her bag prepped for a meeting in engineering later in the day. "Moore on the way. If you can, put something in his mouth to hold his tongue down! Stay away from his arm."

As the door opened to Sick Bay, she spied Dana and Reynolds already jetting out into the corridor. As spry as she could, she kept to their heels.

((OOC feel free to say what ya like here, Boo!))

Dana make a hole through people unlike anyone she had ever witnessed, getting the trio into the turbolift fast. As they sped on to the engineering deck, she pulled free a sedative and the PADD of medical records.

In the calmest tone Dana may have ever heard, she tapped her com and said, "Moore to Captain Drake and Lieutenant Sai, I'll be in engineering meeting with Chief Thorson. He may require your for a discussion at your earliest convenience." She had no idea if they were still with the ambassadors, but hopefully that gave them enough interest to see to them after.

((OOC assuming an affirmative response of getting message))

Looking to Dana and Reynolds, she relayed short info in that same calmness. "Thorson had an issue of violent reactions in his cyberarm. If he is thrashing, do not let that hand get ahold. We need to sedate him, but if the issue is mechanical, it will still move and close. There may be neural transmission issues, but a seizure screams of something biochemical."

Oooo Olan, I adore Tad Williams, especially that series!

Here are a few where I get wild to tame ideas!

World History/Literary Criticism - I am a huge fan of history and the intersections into literature, especially medieval, asian, and post-modernism. Some incredible quotes, odd small battles, journals found of some general, author inspirations, etc all shake loose ideas.

Crime dramas - some of my best political moments and baddies for any genre of game has come from all of the Law and Order shows. Hands down, if you need some cool political bad guy or intricate plot, WATCH THEM. So inspiring from the specifics of a crime to how the bad guy is put on trial.

Concept art - I love to draw, and love finding interesting art. Searching google for "concept art" and any other word can give you some crazy cool images back. I pick one, and write a story about them, and suddenly plot.

Anything written by Guy Gaverial Kay and Raymond E Feist. Kay has some of the wildest ideas and creative phrases in his books. Feist knows how to build and build on characters to world spanning lore, with killer ideas on magic.

Glancing to the priests, she flushed and thanked them. "Sorry for...thank you. I don't know...what were those things?"

As they took stock of the pilgrims, helping those in need and making moves to continue to Crandel, she sheathed her blades and walked around a bit. They were dead or sick, whatever they were. She remembered the yell of ghoul. Ghoul. Weren't those from children's horror tales?

Finally getting herself under control, the smile returned if not as wide. "I'll keep an eye on those trees. Where ever you need me, folks. Crandel by dark, definitely somethin' we need to get to."

Subject: Medical report!! and more!

Hey folks! So for PO Cook and the officers in the meeting, you get this specific info on the two races from the doctor! I made up the medical based on all the info folks have been posting about the races.

So here is the compiled medical and lifestyle, tactical, etc with the new and what everyone else has been posting!

Kuldar:

Ambassador D'Lar

Diet: prefer raw meats to cook on heated metal with sauces made from the blood of the kills.

Physical: Sturdy thick bone structure, heavy cored with gniosoc marrow. Blood is similar to terran. If needing a transfusion, mixing certain terran blood types with their blood can be used to modify a variant. They will be a bit sick, but won't die, and works in a pinch. They have highly allergic reactions to pollenating flowers.

Appearance: Shorter, bulkier. Grayish skil rather scaly, stringy purple black hair to jaw. Brown breeches and tunic with metal plates woven into them.

Tactics: The Kuldar do not behave like Klingons, with value placed on honor. They are pragmatic, and look only to win - they love ambush, subterfuge, sabotage. The Kuldar liked to use "pack tactics", concentrating their fire on a single opponent at a time whenever possible, before going on to the next.

Kuldar are accustomed to higher gravity (1.03%) no humidity adjustment.

National colors purple and black.

Rytain:

Ambassador Threel

Diet: Primarily vegetarian, sometimes small birds, simplicity in tastes to enjoy the most fundamental of food. Yet in contrast, their presentations are incredibly complicated forms of art.

Physical: They have high immunities to pollens and plants, rarely having allergic reactions. Members of ranking families, government, and society tend to have parasitic ji'tains injected, a form of parasite that consumes toxins from the body, saving them from poisons from plants. If they do not encounter enough toxins, they must have injections or consume toxic things to keep the ji'tains in check. We will need to get a blood sample to check the amount of ji'tains in their system.

Appearance: tall, slightly orange tone, top of head was bald and partially ridged, yellowish hair wavy down to collar. Wears simple flowing robes of white.

Tactical: The Rytain view themselves more as thinkers, and while they have been at war for a long time, they don't like to think of themselves as warlike.

Rytain are accustomed to a slightly lighter gravity (.95% Earth) and 10% less humid.

National colors, gold and russet.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine, Sick Bay - 1045

The morning proved as eventful and long as the eve, preparing for a new position and making the rounds. And still, Louise had so much more to tackle before a proper lunch and meeting with Thorson over the odd pulse and pod in the reports from the Science department. Setting aside her cup of finished tea and taking up the PADD, she sought the main chamber of Sick Bay to find everything in perfect order with Dana leading the charge.

Toriak gave his usual nod, such efficiency he brought together records and forms for Dana as needed. I never had a doubt about him. But hopefully the others prove as noteworthy. The other nurses had a mix of looks on their faces, from chagrin for being chastised on timeliness, to appreciation of such a put together ship and crew. Never one to mince words or take credit from others, Louise found herself quite surprised and refreshed from the scene.

Nearing Dana, she addressed the petty officer with enough volume for the others to hear. "Head Nurse, Dana, as always you are fastidious and well-prepared. I knew the arrivals were in perfect hands. No cock ups yet, everything in order?"

((OOC assuming a response of info))

Louise gave a smile full of warmth that filled her eyes, giving a supportive nod to Dana. "You are far ahead of any other Petty Officer and Head Nurse I've worked with prior. Continue as you were, Dana, with my blessings. I must see to the head officers meeting at 1100, then I shall return. We can meet with the nurses and tech after, reviewing current supplies and updates on our current mission. Of course, continue with your plans of scheduling physicals. I'll bring it up at the meeting."

(( OOC assuming a response))

She paused to look at her PADD, raising her eyes back to Dana. "We also may need to consider some new medical tests for a crewman that experienced an accident. He has a mechanical prosthetic. I'll meet with the patient early in the afternoon to get a preliminary report and information on the prosthetic."

((OOC respond or not is cool))

"And I'm off. See you shortly."

As she sought out the meeting in the Captain's mess. I wonder how long Dana has held her position? May need to review that with the Captain.

She took her place next to a gentleman she had yet to meet, with an array of other faces, mostly human, and a,trill! The marks upon his temples, along cheeks, oh she had never met one! What luck!

"Good day, all." She spoke with a British accent, settling and awaiting the captain's words. She had light weak blue eyes, brown hair in a bound up braided bun with a scattering of white, and a smile that creased into fine wrinkles and laughlines.

As the captain addressed them all, Louise gave a smile and little wave around as her name was mentioned as the new CMO. His words about the arriving dignitaries gave far more information, much of which she had to silently agree. The entire situation was a possible dog's dinner ready to explode, without any need of politics required to note it.

She listened in to the captain's review of the two peoples Rytain and Kulder, taking up her PADD with an earnest look.

He spoke of concerns, and continued to look to each giving viewpoints and setting tasks. She had waited for this very moment. Then Zai spoke of the two peoples and what motives there could be. Louise leaned forward, looking to the Trill then to Lasad, to the PADD, and back again.

"Never had I found such diverse cultures when I looked to their medical information and lifestyles. If ever two had reason beyond simple living to clash... Lt Zai, hello, ah yes I think you right. There is certainly something brewing betwixt them, either a chance to hurt each other, simple pride, or a shared motive. Perhaps not a direct threat to the ship, Lt Lasad, but certainly each other. So, I have information you may need for their day to day."

She tapped at the PADD sending the information around. "The Kuldar have a diet and custom of cooking cuts of raw meat from hunts on heated metal plates, dipping into sauces made from the blood of their kills. Seemingly fine, except the Rytain are vegetarian, though they do eat whole tiny birds. They enjoy a diet fully of vegetables and fruits but cut into complicated designs. Just having them eat together could prove ...interesting?"

((OOC assuming chats, responses))

She continued letting that sink in. "For medical, thankfully the Kuldar share a similar blood work of Terran Human. Though we need cultures and donors from their own kind, we can merge it with our own stores with slight modifications. They won't feel right as rain, but they will live with such transfusions. As to Rytains, they are, interesting. And judging from the family the ambassador may be from, the highest ranking are injected by ji'tains, a form of toxin eating parasite. Normally this helps from assassinations among their houses, but, well, it might lead to interesting situations if they tried to poison the Kuldar and themselves, but living through it." She glanced to Horatio on this last and his science lab 2.

((OOC some folks might respond, if not no worries))

She then returned her glance to the captain. "I will certainly review the skills of the crew. We have a full complement of nurses, one with some pathology training and could assist me. I will be reviewing the medical histories and needs of the two races with my staff today, including triage needs. To keep them on their toes, and to update records, I would like to start scheduling physicals and updated medical scans of the crew." She raised a hand, still giving a warm smile to the gathered. "We'll work with each of you make sure the rotation doesn't interfere with the running of the ship, or your own time too much."

((OOC other responses and the like!))
