Yes, 3 is the limit for everything: wands, staffs, wondrous items... even potions.

This because you're all from the world of Audalis, where magic is not quite common, and magical items are rare or very rare.

The Q/A for this game will be up in a few days, when I've received most of the character sheets. For now, I'm giving you all the banner for this game:

Hey Chessic and Ayrn,

I'd love to have you, but other people reacted sooner than you guys did, so I'm going to have to put you on the reserve list.

I do know out of experience though that most games which have freshly started lose a lot of players. So keep your character ready in case somebody drops. You'll be the first to get notice.

I would advice you not to look at the title too much. It obviously involves a structure, but this will not be a dungeon crawl. I would've probably advertised it as such if it had been the case.

As far as background is concerned, I already hinted that you are all very free to help create a realistic backstory for the party. You can invent experience in Khordal, Coria or every other Corner of Antaron, as long as it's within the limit of level. (In other words, don't invent that you've killed a red dragon, since that's just not something that would've happened). Keep it real, keep it fun.

Yes, Riaucard, thanks for reminding me. It's been altered.

And Brundel, you're welcome to the game. First time on the site or not, it doesn't matter. I do require a full commitment though, and that goes for all the players. Once we start, I hope we can see this through to the end of the adventure.

Now you guys take your time to flesh out your characters. Make it something you really want to play.

Fast reactions people. Very promising!

Alright, you're all in, so here's the list so far:

Raven - Human Fighter
Aleric - Half elf Rogue
Riaucard - Human Cleric/Fighter
Celeste - Human Swashbuckler
Phelan - I'd like you to go for the mage, since we have a rogue already. If you prefer the rogue however, that's fine by me.
Brundel - Halfling Monk

Also, Aleric sent me his sheet already and has crafted a Character Description that I think fits exactly what I had in mind. I'm going to put it up here, so you can use it as an example. Now you don't have to copy his lay-out or set-up exactly. It's the general feel that I would like to see for each character.

Character Description:
Ark is, at first impression, a young, savvy traveler. He has a rough but lively feel to him, casual and lighthearted. His wit is as sharp as a blade, and he makes it his duty to play the joker in good times, look after the emotional well-being of the group in bad times, and all-in-all have a good time. When the group hits the tavern, he is always among the first to order drinks and the last to stop, though he has the sense to keep his wits about him. He is perceptive, quick with his thoughts and words, and socially reliable, for the role that he plays.

As one grows deeper, Ark begins to flesh out. He, despite his sharp but lackadaisical manner, fancies himself as a bit of an intellectual, philosophy and ethics being his favorite topics, and he gladly discusses and debates these things. To turn this debate into a conversation, however, is another matter; Ark considers his beliefs to be s very personal subject, and, though he is always eager to discuss the concepts, the things he believes and why are privy only to those very close to him.

Aside from these things, Ark is very openhanded with himself. He easily speaks of his personal life and story, such as the childhood wagon-accident that left his lower legs heavily scarred, or his younger sister Alice, living in an orphanage in his home city of Bayris; he visits her as often as possible, and dotes heavily on her whenever he does.

In combat, Ark is very, very much a pragmatist, taking any advantage, no matter how slight, however it may come about. His sword, which he has named Raz, for his late father, is guided by a sloppy, highly-unorthodox style of fencing, which would make any by-the-books teacher cringe but serves him well. This style is an active work, for him. Ark is often seen shadowfencing in his free time, or studying anatomy when possible; anything for an edge.

In terms of physical description, Ark is a lean, flinty young man, with a sharp face, a lopsided grin, and odd-matched eyes of sapphire-ble and a soft, mossy green. His face and body are covered with an assortment of scars large and small, a testament to his original calling as a street urchin in and about the port city of Bayris

Well met, weary travelers in search of a good place by the fire. Let me help you forget the blisters on your feet or the sorrow in your mind. Come with me on a journey to unknown lands and untold legends. Come with me, to a world where your dreams will sweep you off your feet and the darkest horrors may stalk you forever. Dare take my hand, and I will show you there is a true hero underneath your soaked soul.

I’m looking for a party of about six adventurous types who are willing to go on a journey with me inside a horrific tale. You may just survive it, if you keep your mind, and tread carefully.

As for statistics:
- Rules. This is a D&D game, using the 3.5 rules, and mostly the PHB, DMG and MM. Focus your attention on character personality and roleplaying qualities rather than the best skills or powers. If I don’t have access to a book you’re suggesting, what you’re suggesting will not be allowed. Just to make sure: the Book of Nine Swords is not on my shelves.
- Level.Starting level will be 9. This means you have the opportunity to take Prestige Classes. These will always be applied with my permission, and discussing them beforehand is greatly appreciated.
- Races. You pick your race from the PHB, or from the list of Audalis races.
- Stats. Stats are 76 points divided over 6 abilities, with racial bonuses and penalties added later on. Ability increase due to level is already calculated into the 76.
- HP. HP is rolled by me.
- Equipment. You can put together a good equipment list. Starting money will be 36.000 GP, which will give you the possibility to purchase magical items. Due to the fact that Audalis is a low-magic world, you can pick up to three magical items max.
- Alignment. Your character must be good, or have a really good reason not to be. I have had my share of CN characters. Evil can be fun, but only if it is done in the right way. In my experience, not many people know what that way is. See if you can convince me.
- Background. Your characters are all from the world of Audalis, and you’ve all been adventuring together for a while. But, while I would like for you all to have a detailed background, I do require something else:
Instead of a background I need you all to write a small description of how the other players/characters would perceive your character. How has he handled himself in the group so far. What are her general actions in combat; is she a frontrow fighter or more of a cautionary backstabber. What do the other players know about your character? Do the others feel they can rely on him or do they have suspicions of some sort?
Make this entry short, clear, and take in mind that the group has been together for at least 4 adventures or more. What these adventures where is something you are all very free to improvise on.

In addition, the following is very important:
Posting frequency will be once a week. That means that once a week you’ll get a full update, but In-Character conversations can be held during the week. Updating will mostly occur on Mondays.

All rolling of dice will be done by me. If you want to use a skill, tell me, and I’ll do the rolling for you. Battles will be rolled by me, and described to you in the updates. So, make sure that your intentions are clear.

I think we all require proper spelling and grammar for this to work well. Also, I need posts to consist of more then a few lines in updates, and I expect your characters to work towards keeping the game going. A post in which you state that your character is waiting and observing can be good once, but if it becomes a regular thing, you’re not helping the game-flow.

Well, looking forward to starting this thing. Hope this will raise some interest.

Subject: It's been fun

Hey guys,

I think I know a lost cause when I see one. It's been almost 3 weeks since our last regular posted, and even the two new players couldn't get any activity out of people. It's time to end this game.

I'm going to take my time here to thank you all for participating, and concluding as much as two adventures with me, even though they were small ones. I don't think I've ever experienced an adventure actually ending on this website (or at least in games I'm involved in). And I understand how life outside the inn is always taking its troll, eh toll.

In the past I would've dragged this out and stretched things thin. Now, let's quit while we had fun.

My apologies to Raven and Aleric for getting you into this game and then quiting on you. I can only tell you that I had hoped that your input would've given things the push to keep on going. Too bad it didn't. I have to give this away though: the guy you were chasing was in fact a Doppleganger who had inpersonated the Sylvari nobel for quite a while (the body in the coffin was the original Soramin). At the beginning of this adventure he had already found Geron and was now laying in his bed introducing you to the party. What his schemes were from that point I'll leave up to your imagination.

Other than that I can only offer you a spot in my next game, but I don't know when that will start. Should be soon, though.

Thanks again, everybody.

When Aleric and Laenathil had finished, Geron turned his attention to the rest of the group.

“Now I know this isn’t ridding a town of its undead priestess, but you can do a great service to the Sylvari Empire. And though these gentlemen don’t have any money on them, I’m sure the Syl’s will be very appreciative if you aid them. In other words…” his sentence is temporarily cut off by a series of coughs, “… what’s in it for you all is the Empire’s gratitude. That’s not a small thing.”

He leans back into the pillows.

“But I would understand if you guys have other plans or desires.”

At that moment they heard a scraping sound and a breathed curse from beyond the window of Geron’s room, and the slightest flutter in the rays of sunlight that spilled through it. Opening the window and looking through, they noted a cloaked figure below the window, standing up from a crouch. Without looking up, the figure broke into a run and disappeared out of view behind the inn’s walls.

(OOC: You can safely assume that the person dropped from the window and has heard everything that’s been said. You have only seen a dark green cloak with a broad hood on it and no other indication as to who or what is beneath it. )

Update is in! Two guys have been 'introduced'. Not really, but I'm going to leave it up to Raven and Aleric to do that themselves.

Also, the first page of the Q/A has been updated. Please check your sheets to see if anything is missing.

You'll find that the very first post has been altered: your Group Cash has been updated, and I've added a new list that reads which monsters you've defeated. This will only list the 'main' monster, so only the 'end bosses', so to speak.

Use your downtime wisely!

Any questions, please ask.

Topic: The Monster Hunters Collective
Subject: New beginnings

When they exited the temple, what had been a hazy afternoon was already maturing into a bright evening. The sky was clear, and the air smelled fresher than they remembered. Perhaps it was the time spent in the dusty dungeon that heightened their enjoyment of the crisp air; maybe an aura of decay had been lifted from the village. Whatever the case, they felt invigorated for a moment. They had survived their second journey together and had eliminated another menace in the process. The future looked promising.

They headed back to Granny Tapestry’s Guesthouse, where the woman met them with hot plates full of roasted potatoes, rabbit stew and slices of Metalcap mushrooms, which tasted a bit like spinach. While they conversed among themselves, Loco took a moment to question Granny Tapestry about the awful events which had transpired in the village. She looked genuinely ashamed when she told him:

“It was a black day in the history of Sedostra. I don’t know where the notion of lynching that poor woman came from, but people can be monsters of their own. My fault in the matter was that I didn’t try to stop them.”

The cleric of Therassor noted a true, heartfelt sadness wash over his hostess and quickly dropped the matter.

The next morning they headed back to Stone’s Hollow, happy to leave the people of Sedostra to their own meagre lives and dark secrets.

(You’ve collected the following on your search through town:
In the Temple’s dungeon - a small pouch filled with jewels, total worth 2500 GP
In the open coffins in the tunnel under the graveyard – 12 GP, 200 SP, a pair of silver bracers (non magical), a gold necklace
In the Sofia’s death chamber – A leather bound journal describing the evil cleric’s devotion to D’Hurgen. It is unpleasant to touch, feeling both sticky and silky at the same time.
In the stone coffin in Sofia’s death chamber – the bones of Sofia’s father, a cloak which radiates a magical abjuration aura, embroidered with the holy symbol of Solanis.

Items added to the Group’s Cash on the first page of the Q/A. You should talk about dividing the items. )

Back in Stone’s Hollow, life had continued as normal. The monster they had defeated back in the forest had been decapitated and its head was now in display on a special board on the town’s square. Somebody had written the word KRENSHAR under it. As one of the townsfolk explained, a scholar had come through Stone’s Hollow and told the people the monster’s name. The local woodcrafter had then formed this special plaque and calligraphed the word with gold paint.

They were hailed by a few of the townsfolk, but mostly people greeted them as they would any other passer by. It seemed that they were as of yet unaware of the things that had transpired in Sedostra, and the days of fear had subsided into the darker corners of their memories.

(OOC: You guys get three days of downtime. Spent them wisely.

After three days, they all received word from Geron Twoblades. Whalen, the patron of the Golden Barley Inn took a moment to collect all of them personally. He confided in them that Geron was not yet feeling any better. The old adventurer had been struck by a terrible fever and had refused to see anybody for the past few days, so this was the first opportunity they had to visit him. He had also refused to see Helena, the town druid, telling the innkeeper that he wanted to fight off the fever himself. Apparently, some of his old pride still clung to his being.

When they entered Geron’s room they were greeted by Geron, and two unfamiliar faces. Two rangers, a sylvari bowman and a half-syl in adventuring gear stood up when they entered the room and greeted them kindly. Geron was sitting upright in his bed, his back supported by pillows. His torso was still bandaged, and he looked a bit pale. Other than that, there was no sign of any illness anymore.

“Welcome, my friends. I’m glad to see you all back in good health. And look who’s here… ” he took a moment to adjust his position, “Brokkrok, you old pebble. Your beard has grown since I last saw you. How did the adventure go?”

They all realized he was trying to be cheerful when actually he was far from it. He was struggling against pain and other discomforts, but too proud to admit it.

“These gentlemen here have come from Maelamin, the Southern Sylvari Kingdom. They are looking for a very evil man who has fled their country. I think you will be able to help them in their quest.”

He motioned for the Syls to speak and explain their presence themselves.

(OOC: Welcome Raven and Aleric to this game!)

Can't really say no to such a thorough response. I saw you even blocked your other topic in hopes of getting in.

I'll be frank with you: I already have an extra player, who PMed me.

But I just can't resist this.

So, what you have to do to get in is this: make a 3rd level 3.5 edition character according to the rules listed above, and send him to me in a PM. He'll be your audition, so to speak.

Topic: Monster Hunters Collective - 1 player needed
Subject: Monster Hunters Collective - 1 player needed

Hey Everybody,

I'm in need of an extra player in my Monster Hunters Collective game. It's a dnd 3.5 game, set in the Audalis world. The players form a team from a small village who will work their way to fame and fortune through a series of shortish adventures/scenarios.

So far, two scenarios have been completed and the party is heading back to their home town. A perfect opportunity to align a new character, don't you think?

Now, about the gameplay:

Each scenario will be according to your level, and concluding a scenario will result in the group gaining a level. There will be no XP involved. A single adventure will mean all characters go up a single level.

If you join, you'll be able to make a new 3rd level character following these rules:

- Rules. We’ll be playing D&D 3.5, using mostly the PHB, DMG and MM. Focus your attention on character personality and roleplaying qualities rather than the best skills or powers. If I don’t have access to a book you’re suggesting, what you’re suggesting will not be allowed. Just to make sure: the Book of Nine Swords is not on my shelves.
- Races. You pick your race from the PHB, or from the list of Audalis races.
- Stats. Stats are 74 points divided over 6 abilities, with racial bonuses added later on.
- HP. HP are the total for your first level. If you roll a d4, it’s 4. Bonuses from Constitution scores are added to that total. Extra HP for level will be rolled by me.
- Equipment. Make your character like any normal 3rd level character, but there will be no magical items yet.
- Alignment. Your character must be good, or have a really good reason not to be. I have had my share of CN characters. Evil can be fun, but only if it is done in the right way. In my experience, not many people know what that way is. See if you can convince me.
-Background. The adventures and scenarios will take place in Cordia. You all come from the same town, and you will all know each other. In your description, state where you have learned your skills and tell us a little about how your character comes across.

I'll work out a way for you to join the group, so don't worry about that.
