Topic: Update on Dragon Mistress.
Subject: Remebering

I think it is a very good idea to see if you can get her work published. That would be a very good homage, one that she deserves.

She will be greatly missed here on the inn. She was much of an icon, and always ready to jump into new adventures. I will never forget the way she helped forge my Chakran Portal game with her roleplaying and view of fantasy in general. She has a place in my memories.

I hope you'll will be ok, Jeanne. As many said before, if you need us, we'll be there for you.

Very soon we moderators won't have anything to do anymore, when people are as complete and welcoming as you two.

Anyway, Welcome to the inn! Hope you'll find your PBP games here.

I think his name was Metricum Gluestone, not sure on the last name though. He was a Khordaldrum cleric in one of Olan's games. He was a bit of an inventor as well, always tinkering and carrying loads of scrollcases with drawings and sketches for machinery. He carried a hammer with the holy symbol of Kharox (his God) in relief on the side. Basically, what happened was if you whacked somebody hard enough, they would get that symbol engraved in their skin.

He wore goggles (like welding goggles) on his forehead. Whenever he would heal somebody he would strap them over his eyes to shield himself from the energy.

I remember he saved Admiral's character from certain death by use of brains rather than some priestly magic or ability. Those are always the fun moments.

Anyway... the game died, and he was never used again.

I think it died, or never really got off the ground. Great setting though. We need more (gothic) horror games.

Topic: Realms of Twilight -Winds and Sand
Subject: Argent

Introductions. The awkward moments when you have to judge somebody by their appearance, and mostly always misread small gestures, misplaced comments or insecurities that hint at personality but are by rule misguiding. Argent was happy his brother was there. Not because he felt uncomfortable with meeting new people; future comrades maybe. He rather appreciated Thiferl’s presence because his brother had a way of drawing attention. And while eyes were on the babbling and nervously spontaneous mouth of the cleric, he could view the room and try his hand at figuring out who they were dealing with. He knew things weren’t going to be any different this time.

While they walked towards the room they were ordered to attend, he tried to convince his brother of locations he had spotted, here in Calatain.

“… besides, there are many benefits to being close to the city barracks.”
"I can see your point-"
“But we also have the small shed, close to Mistryln’s Metallurgy, but I don’t like the competition there.”
"No, no, we couldn't possibly do that."

"But what about the north side?"

“You’re talking about Griffonhill Road? That’s right in the merchant district…”
"I've always loved the merchant district!"
“Well, they do have that mansion for sale with the …”
"We couldn't possibly afford that."
“I shouldn’t say this, but if it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have been robbed by the Thirsty Skull Gang. You blew up their…”
"You've said that already, and we agreed not to bring it up again."
“I know, sorry about that. How about on lower side, where Gally took us?”
"Yes, but is it near a big enough water supply? A fire could be catastrophic."

They had entered the room, and noted two people were already present. Automatically, Argent leaned back, and let his brother do the talking. He wasn’t shy, it was just how things had developed over the years. He eyed the half elf who was leaning against the wall. Interesting posture. He would be keeping that one in front of him until he knew whether he could trust him or not. There was something beautiful about the man’s passive aggression, but Argent wasn’t sure if it was something to admire.
The other man, a human, was listening to Thiferl. He appeared muscled, but was too openly concerned with his appearance, so he couldn’t be a monk. Argent mused how the man’s gifts were probably with the blade, but he had been wrong before.

“… and this is my brother Argent.” Thiferl ended.

Argent slightly bowed his head and spoke in his low voice.
“How are you.”
It didn’t rumble as he hoped it someday would. He had once heard a man with a voice so deep that it sounded like an avalanche of boulders. He never knew much envy in his life, but that was one time he felt ice running down his spine.

His brother had moved on to the other man, and Argent replied with as much respect as he had shown the human.

“I think it’s best if we sit down as well.” He told his brother when he had finished introductions and was finally quieting a bit.

He picked a spot near the human. Not uncomfortably close, but not too far away to be rude either.

“Who are we waiting for?” he asked the man. It was just a matter of keeping conversation going, rather then true interest, though he made sure to look as occupied with the question as he could. The fact was that he would be experiencing soon enough who they were waiting for, but any information beforehand would be welcome.

Subject: Find the Otherhalf

Thagovan had been quiet up to now. He had stepped up to prevent Gyviar from prying away the cast that had kept Dain cocooned into the wall, but the ranger had been too fast. When introductions had been made he had motioned for all of them to keep their voices down, and when Karov entered their group he had initially reached for his weapon. It was clear that he was not feeling comfortable with what was happening, and he was not trying to hide the fact that he despised the Khord they had recently freed.

“Well, I obviously don't know how I got in here or where I am, but since you all have made it here on your own I'll assume you do. So? What's the plan?” Dain asked.

Thagovan’s bubble burst. In a voice hushed, but full of fire he spat: “What’s the plan? The plan is to keep your balding tongue. We are here on a mission to rescue missing children and discover a hive of ankheg tending to hundreds of our kin. If we make too much sound, I’m sure they won’t mind fetching up a few more where we stand, you outcast!”

He turned to the others, ignoring the fact that Dain had already lowered his voice, and whispers: “We need to keep going, and see if we can find out what is happening here. I want to free all our brothers and sisters as much as you all do, but if we pop one more of their captives, I’m sure they’re going to notice.”

Directing himself to Gyviar in particular he adds under his breath: “And why did you have to free the bald one? He’s probably not bald for his heroic nature.”

He eyes Karov and starts to speak when all of a sudden a multitude of voices starts to speak. Words echo through the cave and reach the tunnel they are standing in, spoken by hundreds of Khordaldrum men and women in a monotonous drone: “Find the Otherhalf”.

The sentence is repeated over and over again. It reverberates against the walls and swells and intensifies, though the voices stay ever so absent-minded.
Within the mindless chant they notice movement on the cave’s floor. A single ankheg is dragging a Khordaldrum woman towards the stone hand. It places her on top of it, and returns to the walls.

For a moment nothing happens. The chanting continues, and the woman is laying there.

Then the stone hand starts to close. The fingers engulf the woman, and the hand slowly starts to descend into the stone floor of the cave, melting with the material as if it were water. In a minute or two, the woman will be gone.

(OOC: Time to act. Make up your mind and consider the consequences.
As for Thagovan reacting so rudely, please excuse me for that. It is considered a grand shame for a Khord to be bald. It is a sign of shame, exile or anything else that is bad in Khordaldrum society. Steelight, please don’t take this personally. In fact, I’m quite sure you saw this coming. )

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 2 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Find the Otherhalf

A few moments passed as they stood at the doorstep of the cave. Before them, its wideness spread out like a hollow dream; damp and dreadful. While they worked out a plan, the ankheg continued their silent inspecting and tending to the encapsulated Khords in the wall.

When the silence spell was cast, centered on Bohen, the group started to move. They stepped slowly, careful to stay within the limits of the spell’s reach. They stood so close to each other that they should’ve been able to hear every breath, but the unpresence of sound was unsettling. It left an eerie feeling that they were ghosts in a spectacle that was beyond their reach and influence.

Still, they continued, and set foot on the walkway that lead down, and to both sidewalls of the cavern. The closest embedded Khord was on the right side of the tunnel, and they approached him carefully. Now they had a good look of what was happening to their kin. It appeared that they had been captured and inserted into a crevice in the wall. A bland mucus had been cast over them, which had dried up to look like the rock. The Khord’s head was left free, possibly for air. The Khord they were approaching slowly seemed to be mumbling something, but they could not hear a word due to their silencing magic.

Then an Ankheg came crawling in their direction. The creature moved fast over the wall, apparently needing no walkway or steady footing to keep its balance. Down it came, and set foot on the walkway just 20 feet away from them. Its gaze was upon them, and they now noticed that it looked different from the ones they had fought in the tunnel. Where the others had wide mandibles that protruded far from their mouths, this one had small and slender appendices, almost finger-like. Its eyes seemed bigger, and its body more plump.

For a moment it regarded them, then continued its path down towards the bottom of the cave, as if they didn’t exist.

While their eyes followed the creature’s descend, they noted that almost all ankheg in this cave were of a different kind than the ones they had battled. But while they studied the situation, something happened that none of them could’ve foreseen.

One of the captured Khords was plucked from her cocoon by one of the insect at the bottom of the cave. The woman seemed not to notice being dragged away, and limply suffered the circumstances, bumping into rocks, sliding rudely over the floor and finally being hauled onto the handshaped altar in the middle of the cave. The ankheg which had dragged her away returned to its duty with the automation of a worker bee.

Then the hand started to close its fingers, and at the same time sound returned to their ears. What they hadn’t been able to hear before was that the Khords in the walls of the cave had started to drone a single line. Now the Silence spell ended they were witness to a mantra that was chanted by hundreds of voices void of any form of intonation. As the hand closed further around the woman, echoes of the drone intensified the cryptic message: “Find the Otherhalf.”

“Find the Otherhalf.”

“Find the Otherhalf.”

(OOC: The hand is slowly closing around the Khordaldrum woman, and you can all see that it has also started to sink into the floor of the cave. You might be able to run down and reach the woman in time to yank her from the stoney grasp, but it will also make a lot of noise and draw attention to you.)

Steelight, would it be possible to get a bit of an idea of where we are, building wise? Where do we meet, what liberties do we have to shape the city etc.

Is there a Blue Hand Headquarters, if so, is that where we sleep? Who do we report to, etc.

Crowe, there's a PM coming your way, suggesting our characters have some kind of relationship, as we're both dwarves. This doesn't have to be so, but I thought it might be fun to be brothers, or nephews or something. Unless the DM doesn't want this.

And where can we find info on the setting? Is it possible to get a link up somewhere? I'm wondering about Dieties for my monk.

I think we can dismiss the whole thri-kreen business anyway, lol. I've been looking through the Pathfinder core rulebook, and I can see the appealing nature of this game over dnd 3.5.

I will go for a dwarven Monk. I'll do my best to get a character together sometime soon. But I also have to update my games, so it will be somewhere in this weekend hopefully.

so, how would it work if you play a thri-kreen? I looked up Complete Psionics and it is a monster class that goes on until level 20. So how would that work? Or did you look in another book?

Still not sure if I'm going for the Thri-kreen, but I'm keeping options open.

A thri-kreen would be cool if it was a dungbeetle kind instead of a mantis. A scarab, you know... big ugly guy with a kind heart. Sun obsession and all, from old Egyptian belief, which of course doesn't matter since they don't know what Egypt is in a fantasy world.

Well, anyway... I'm still not sure what I want to play. I'll have a good thinking-session. For now I think a thri-kreen sounds fun, but it might not be the best option roleplaying wise. And we already have a rogue, yes? hmmmm...

I think I would like to give this a try. I'm curious to both your world, and the pathfinder rules. What you describe so far sounds good.

Questions:

What races would you allow? Not every world has the same types.

How long is this game going to last? I'm not talking in terms of months or weeks, but more in levels and storyline. A short adventure table top seems to become something that can last for a year on the inn. A game where people rise multiple levels seems to go on for more than 2 or 3. If you want to make this a campaign, it could be for eternity or until the game drops dead.

Posting length: I'm a busy guy, most of the time. I run an adventure on the inn with two groups, which will always have my priority. If I post a shorter post once in a while, would it be a problem? As a counterfact I'd like to tell you that when I dedicate myself to a game, I don't slack.

That said, I will start thinking about what I would like to play.

And finally I'm going to damn whatever character I come up with by saying that it's kinda funny when you tell us to use proper grammar when you misspell it yourself.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: The end of the tunnel

Into the tunnel they went, weapons drawn and eyes and ears open. It felt strange, exchanging the open and organic nature of the cave for a confined and straight darkness. But they were Khords, and subterranean creatures. The mountains were made for them to mine and explore. They abode underground, in darkness and silence. But the truth was that this tunnel was rather unsettling. It seemed formed by more than natural cause, and felt strangely alien, as if it was ancient and fresh at the same time.

Gyviar sent his bat to scout ahead. The fluttering of the animal’s wings made a noise that twistingly reverberated against the tight walls. After a few moments silence had reclaimed the tunnel and their own footfall and breathing were all that was audible.

“We should make haste.” Thagovan whispered. “We might catch up with that monster and free the boor bastard it dragged along.”
He hastened his pace and continued in silence.

Minutes passed, and the dark tunnel continued stoically. It went on straight, with only a few, very slight turns. Their experience and knowledge of the underground ways of the world told them that this tunnel was slowly ascending. They could hardly feel it on their feet, but they did notice.
After half an hour the fast beating of wings told them Fler was returning to them. Gyviar’s companion seemed rushed as it landed on the ranger’s shoulder. A few gazes were exchanged, and Fler uttered a short series of low shrieks. It was enough to tell Gyviar that the tunnel ended up ahead, and that there were people there.

With extra caution they went on. Gyviar’s companion had been right. The tunnel ended not fifteen minutes later, and with the end of the tunnel came an artificial glow. A flame was growing from the wall where the tunnel gave way to a cave. Opposing the flame was a bulging form in the wall, as if the stone had grown a rocky, cancerous bump.

Carefully they approached the form, only to note that it was one of their kin. A Khordaldrum head, bald as a molerat was sticking from a smooth, cocoon-like sack made of stone. It clung to the wall like a larvae in a bee-hive; body buried and face accessible. Whoever was buried there was alive, for they could hear him mumble. Only a few words sounded clear: Blue eye … find … otherhalf ….

A quick peak into the cave told them it was quite large, and its walls were filled with Khords in cocoons like the one they had found. Ankheg were swarming over the cocoons, seemingly tending to them.
It appeared they could enter the cave at ground level, for they could see it floor stretching out before them. And not too far away, protruding between a group of stalacmites, stood a single hand of stone, palm upwards as if ready to hold something.

You think wrong, oh webmaster, and deserve to be smitten for it. Or something like that.

I'm referring to myself as being greedy for expecting something in return for possible writings.

As for the Audalis Campaign Setting being published and making money: IF it ever comes to that, I'm sure I would be fine with getting a lot of money.
I'm kidding. What I'm trying to say is that I wrote stuff for this site because it's fun, and there is no money involved, which does change things. Besides, if you would make money from Audalis material, then I'm sure a lot of it would go to keeping the site in the air.

All in all, we're clogging up Steelights thread too much with talk about money. And I'm not Mr. Krabs.
