Subject: hehe

Involved players are never pesky. I should've informed you all about the delay.

The reason there is no update yet is that:

1) I've been really busy this weekend
2) I wanted to wait for the new player which should be able to join us somewhere this week, hopefully.

Concerning #2: MMV will join us somewhere in the near future, and take over the emptiness we have endured since Loki departed this game.

How's that for sentimental.

Update will follow swiftly. Without introduction of new charry if need be.

I updated the game. Not that big of an update, but it's exciting enough, I should think. If it ends well for Baldorf, we'll be making a big step next time I update, so don't forget to mention what you want to do once all the Khords are down from the stem.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Baldorf's plummet

They were standing at the bottom of the enormous white stem of the Stinkhorn. Far above their heads, the black hood was oozing drops of goo into the pool below them. The big chunks of black slush fell down around them like some wicked form of rain, just out of reach, as if the giant hood was a protective umbrella against its own foul creation.

Baldorf was moving upwards slowly. His mist-form was difficult to control, but he was learning fast. If this was something he would be able to do at will eventually it would prove an incredible feat. Something people would admire him for, perhaps?
He came close to one of the Khords that was stuck in the clear mucus of the stem’s body. Wondering if he would be able to pull one of them loose, he envisioned himself being solid again. And slowly, he became just that.
Gravity took its hold on him again, and he just in time remembered that he was going to hold on to one of the Khords. Grabbing tight, he let his own weight do the work, and with a slow, tearing sound, the body started to slant forward. Then, suddenly it was loose from the stem and they both plummeted down.

Crellin, who had just managed to spore his steed to the other side of the pool, had only a few moments to jump onto the big boulder. The hippogriff he had been riding took a powerful jump upwards again and flew straight into the air. He followed the creature with his gaze and saw Baldorf falling from quite a height with another Khord in his grip. The hippogriff attempted to catch them both, but succeeded only in taking hold of the limp Khord. Baldorf attempted to grab hold of the hippogriff’s mane or leg, but found his fingers slip in vain. He was going to crash onto the boulder if nothing was done.

In the mean time, Niaou’li had returned and was also attempting to loosen one of the bodies that stuck on the enormous shroom. She dug her talons into the clothes of one of the children and flapped her wings furiously. Slowly it came loose, but it was heavy! She was instantly pulled down 3 feet, and had to utilize her wings with all her strength to not follow Baldorf’s example.

Berodin, in the mean time was focussing hard on telling three hippogriffs what to do. One had already attempted to collect Baldorf and his catch, but failed on the first half. The other two followed swiftly. One managed to grab the child Niaou’li was carrying, using its beak, and the had been directed to grab another Khord from the Stinkhorn’s stem. It was now redirected to catch their falling comrade, but it may not be fast enough.
The cleric shouted: “Crellin! Use your magic!”

(OOC: You’ve managed to free two Khords, one grown up, one child. Baldorf is falling and will plummet hard onto the rock the next round. Time to act is now. )

We have three posts now, and after PMing Loki, I'm quite sure he'll quit this game. I'm looking for a new player already. For now, we'll continue with the four of us.

My update will come in a few days. Most likely tomorrow.

Good posting all around so far, I must say. I'm enjoying DMing you all very much. Thanks for being in this game with me.

Hey Guys,

I've been feeling a bit sick these days, so I haven't updated like I was going to. Sorry about that.

I haven't been completely absent though, and we possibly have another player for our group. I don't know when he'll be ready to begin though. Will keep you all updated, literally, in the near future.

Rules about magic: I'm not sure what you mean with this. You can shoot this round, and cast the next. That would not be a problem.

Dragonblood: Congratulations on 300! Always a milestone.
As a reply, I never waste ammo like that. If you state to shoot two bolts at one creature, and the first one kills it, I will automatically direct the next to another enemy. Such would be the case in tabletop dnd, so I don't see why it would be different here.

Loki: Good news.

I've been slow to reply the past days, but I've been feeling quite crappy. Sorry for the inconvenience. I should feel better as soon as these snot-bacteria start leaving my body.

Of course.

I didn't include your character in the update, but we can assume that he is checking out things in the museum room.

We'll see your post after the next update then. Good luck with your exams.

Hehe, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, Dragonblood. I am very pleased with the way things are going myself. Great gaming so far.

1 ) the monsters are moving fast, faster than a running Khord.
2 ) the two guards are still with you, bravely at the back of the team.
3 ) well, that's basically up to you. I'd say Bohen is in the lead, for he was looking at tracks. But it can surely be all three of you in front.

Hope that helps!

Update is in. I will update the map as soon as I have time. It's not really that helpful anyway at the moment, since you can all picture a tunnel, I'm sure.

Sorry for the delay. I was hoping Loki would post, AND I have been very busy myself. So no use blaming him, since it was my own fault.

Hoping that this was the last time from my side.

Vanadia, I'll look into your character sheet somewhere this week(end). Hoping for today but I can't make any promises.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 2 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: into the tunnel then

With the dustclouds settling and the chaos spreading, there were only a handful of Khords who kept their minds stone cold. A few guards were now gingerly edging towards the hole in the wall, carefully drawing the maces that had been strapped to special holders on their belts. Still, none of them dared to do more than peek around the corner into what slowly revealed to be a tunnel of some sorts.

In the mean time, an alliance of some sorts was formed between three brave Khords, who seemed to trust in each others’ confidence to stay behind while the rest of the crowd was pushing and shoving to get out.
One glance over their shoulder told them that they were not really succeeding in their escape. Panic had struck hard, and Khords were tumbling over each other and knocking their own kin aside to be the first to exit the building. In the midst of the chaos it almost seemed like time was standing still for the three of them, their minds so at ease.

Bohen cautiously moved towards the area where the creatures had been standing. He was looking for tracks, and having no trouble whatsoever finding them. The ground, covered in a thick layer of sand and rocks that had been blown into the room with the emersion of the monsters, was a mosaic of small dots. Many an insect leg had pounded the floor a moment ago, and the tracks lead obviously into the tunnel beyond the hole in the wall.

With the dust clearing he could see the darkness that stuck to the crevice that had spewed desperation so suddenly. It was a deep tunnel, and there was no telling how long it went on or if there were any sideways.
That was, without going in.

And so they went in. The guards at the edge of the hole called out to them and beckoned them not to go. They wouldn’t listen.
Two of the guards bravely joined their lead, but the rest remained behind, following them only with faces lined with fear. Their heads popped around the corner of the tunnel in dark silhouettes, as if they were the last few rotting teeth in a mouth that had fed on the chaos of escaping Khords.

The tunnel was recently formed. It was rough and rugged, but dry and created with a hint of thought. It lacked all the qualities of Khordal’s digging engineers, but there was something about it that made it more than the average insect tunnel. They had heard of ants, of course, or bumblebees living in the earth, but even those creatures would settle for a bit more roughness than this. It was almost too smooth to be created by something with a brain the size of a pin’s head. And it was wide too. The initial opening had been quite small compared to what opened up here. There was room enough for at least three of them to walk side by side comfortably.

The tracks were harder to follow here, but Bohen was experienced, and years of training and exercise were paying off. He lead them deeper into the tunnel, but after only a few minutes had to stop them. He heard something up ahead, and now he pointed it out, the others heard it too.

There was a ticking noise, like that of a herd of blind men tapping their walking sticks in rapid succession. More so, it sounded like a group of large insects heading their way at high speed.

And that was exactly what it was. Within visual reach, which was approximately sixtie feet, came a group of four of the insects they had spotted earlier. Only now they were not obscured by debris, dust and the element of surprise. They came full frontal, black eyes now shifting from the end of the tunnel to the group that had ventured on their grounds.

They were enormous, as high as Odin with long segmented bodies covered in spiked plates. Six legs supported them, which darted back and forth in a sickly precise repetition. The creatures reminded them most of Shield Bugs but with an upright torso that sprouted a head flat and vicious. Two wide and powerful mandibles hang from their jaw, opening and closing like eager claws.

Their new targets in sight, they began a charge.

(OOC: Ok, will try to get a map up as soon as I can. The tunnel is about 15 feet wide, with the creatures now about 60 feet away. I have rolled initiative already, so there is no need to do so. Post your intentions, and I will make sure that everybody goes in the right order. This is not a first post, first goes kind of game (otherwise, what use is initiative anyway), but you can always delay your action. Good luck! )

I already dropped Loki a line last weekend. I was hoping he would update, but tomorrow is the deadline for I'm not waiting yet another week with updating. I can understand that getting the hang of these games again after the holidays can be tedious, but it's already been the 15th!

So yeah, if everything goes according to plan, tomorrow you should have your update!

Truly amazing artwork there!!

If you want to, we are always looking for people to help shape our gaming world Audalis visually. If you're looking for a fun project, and drawing is your thing (which it obviously is), that might be the section to look for.

Great to have you on the site.

Mitral, it looks like I'm going to have to withdraw my spot in your game. I'm sure you'll be able to fill it up, maybe with Baron

Sorry for reserving a spot and not taking it. I really want to play in this game, for it looks rather promising. I even had an idea for a character that I quite enjoyed. But I think it's not a very good idea for me to join another game, seeing how little time I have.

I hope this adventure takes off well. Good luck all!

-3? I thought in your opening post you stated -6, yes?

Doesn't really matter. I'm going for some kind of warrior type, fighter, maybe ranger or paladin.

And is there a limit to classes? If Steelight is a fighter/rogue does that mean that such a combo is barred?

What are restrictions concerning alignments?

Once a week might be doable. I'm still deliberating... but for now I'm going to take a spot, but I might drop... I might not. Hopefully I won't.

Am thinking an old fighter-rogue... though you're really stripping that kind of concept of stats with -6 on most important scores.

I don't need a maxed out character to have fun, but I'm hoping that I will be able to survive when my stats are low as a fighter and you throw some alien monster in my direction

Is it advisable to take at least some kind of level in something that can cast?

I must admit I'm really liking your idea so far: the setting, the imprisonment and everything, but my difficulty would be the posting amount. I can't commit to something that is at least twice a week. Otherwise I would absolutely consider it.

But I wanted to let you know that this game sounds like it could be a good one.

You can't cheat, unless you write a bot that automatically votes so many times a day without leaving traces of IP addresses and all that stuff.

But we won't go there. And for some reason we are never on the list until a few days after reboot. It's always been that way.

Raven, I saw that Fiend Folio about a year ago in a yardsale kind of thing. I had to choose back then which one I would buy... they had many old dnd books there, and I wasn't going to spend all my money. Otherwise I would've gotten it. :S

I got the old DMG and a ad&d adventure in Dutch (didn't even know those existed!!) instead. Those are also wonderful. I now forget if I also got the Manual of the Planes or not... I should've taken them all.

Yes, finally somebody asks the question I've been dying to give an answer to, haha.

It is almost certain that you are dealing with several creatures with large mandibles, which are indeed large mouthpieces; like extended jaws, of insects. But you guys have seen spiders before... these are not spiderlike. They are wider.

I haven't read all the recent posts, but will do so after the weekend. If I find the time during the week, I will post an update as well. Otherwise, I'll post next weekend.

As far as conversing amongst ourselves: you guys are so far the best group I've ever DMed when it comes to using the Q/A usefully. Good job!! Keep the questions and remarks towards each other coming.
