Subject: hey
the spiderwick chronicles! I just heard that these books were co-written by Tony DiTerlizzi, whose art we all loved when he illustrated the 2nd edition Planescape modules! That is awesome. I'm definately checking out that movie.
Thanks for the advice, Olan.
One more thing to add to my last comment: after watching such a bad movie, all other are Masterpieces. Really. Let me watch the remake of 'the Fog' now, and I'll enjoy it!

Subject: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I'm ashamed to even write this... but this evening we felt like renting a movie. We went to the movie-rental place, and picked up two movies. We were in the mood for a horror movie, so we saw this DVD called 'Diary of a cannibal'. It was based on a true story, (I remember the situation being on the news), and the details on the back sounded alright. AND, it said: from the director of The Boogeyman, a film that we enjoyed a bit.
PLEASE, please, please, if you ever see this movie, ask the owner of the rental place to burn it. It looks like a twelve year old got to play around with bad actors and his new homevideo camera, and just discovered the editing function of windows moviemaker, and had an obsessive compulsion to use the same footage twenty times.
I know we should've checked on imdb.com to reassure a good night of thrills, but man.... it turned out that that movie 'The Boogeyman', was a different one than we thought it was. The director did make a boogeyman movie, but it was in the 1980s, and a different one than we thought.
out of ten stars? A -20....
Oh, the best part of this movie was when they showed the headless body of the victim, with a black spot over his head that looked like it was drawn on it in Paint.

Vista sucks... I can't copy paste anything in windows explorer without it shutting down. I use the ctrl+c and ctrl+v for that stuff... but that's only one of the hindrances. I'm not even going to talk about compatibility...

I discovered a program called e-on Vue, version 6 xStream. It makes 3D environments and you can make animations with it.
Guess what I did?
Right, I made a RDInn video, and uploaded it to our YouTube account. We almost forgot we had such a thing!
anyway, keep an eye out for it, it's being processed right now, and will be up for watching very soon.
And don't worry about bandwidth or something, it's only 300 kb (well, it only lasts 10 seconds, so it shouldn't be much).

A few streets away from the attempted robbery lay Windmill Alley. Nobody remembered why it was ever named such, for there were no records of a windmill ever existing in this part of town. And one rule was important above all others in Drannon: if it’s not in the records it’s not true. Nomatter the name, this alley carried a fine establishment called The Broken Grommel, named after the fact that a part of a Grommel would buy you a beer, as long as you didn’t ask for quality.
The tavern was smoke stained, dirty and stank like a sewer-rat. But it was a safe place, where a conversation could be private, and where drinking happened all day.
The companions found a table, after a nod from the barman. Custom was to go get your own drinks during the day, because most of the personel was trying to get sober during that time and could not be trusted with a tray.
There were a handful of patrons, seven in total, of which two were asleep with their heads on a beer polished table. The other five looked at the group with red rimmed eyes, then returned their attention to their own business.

It took a while for Malius to find a good print. The sand was too hard and apparently this creature travelled light. The ranger bent down to take a better look at the tracks. They were birdlike, with three long toes sticking forward, but without the supporting toe in the back that would go with those kind of prints. Little holes appeared at the top of the toe-prints, indicating long crooked nails. Similar tracks had been made by some kind of lizard Malius once encountered, but they had never been the size he had just glimpsed.
Meanwhile, Geim was in the tavern, plundering the liquor cabinet. But it was not the tastefulness he was after; he was looking for a bottle that would do well with fire. So far he didn’t have too much luck. Most of the displayed bottles carried Sylvari wine, and he knew such weak drinks would never suffice. It was under the counter that he found a special cabinet which carried six skins containing a foul liquid that he recognized as ‘Galbladder Beer’, obvious an import from one of the Warrens of Khordal. He knew for a fact this would burn.
The only other bottle that would qualify as ‘flamable’ was carried around by Draven. He was on the hunt in the town, searching for a magic shop or alchemist’s home. He stepped over the bodies in the streets, his eyes open for a hint of useful tools. But it appeared the village housed only commoners, hunters and elder.
He turned around a corner, when he suddenly found himself eye to eye with a monstrous lizard. It was as large as he was, and it had its jaws wrapped around a Sylvari child’s intestines, ripping them loose from the torn body.
The creature looked up, placed a step forward and sniffed. Now Draven got a good look at its body. The head was big and blunt, with a thin jaw full of razorsharp teeth. The lizard’s body was lean, ending in a tail as long as the rest of the creature. It’s legs were long with firm claws, and two small arms greedily clutched the air as the thing regarded Draven with equal interest. It took another step, sniffed again, and then ran off into the forest with incredible speed.
Thondrek was searching the village as well, but so far hadn’t had any luck finding survivors. He had checked the buildings, but every open door brought him nothing but corpses. The Khord was surprised to find that even in the homes that had closed doors, there were no survivors. But the Sylvari that he found there were not cut open. Instead, they appeared to have simply collapsed, as if their bodies had given out.
He walked the streets when he heard a noise coming from on of the houses. He entered, to find a young Sylvari male sobbing over the corpse of a young woman. His face was covered by his dark hair and burried in her shoulder. He was shaking with tears, and looked up when Thondrek approached. His eyes were wide and blood shot, and his gaze spoke of a fear and torment that Thondrek had not seen before.
He learned the lad’s name was Aluwego Marrienbark, and the woman was his wife to be. As Thondrek gathered, she had suddenly stopped breathing and Aluwego had felt her life slipping through his fingers. Nothing he had done had helped her. He grabbed Thondrek’s sleeve and did not let go anymore, crying and mumbling to himself.
As Loda stood with Malius and the two bladesingers, she became aware of a soft rumble next to her. She glanced to her side, and found Gothard, who was slowly building up an angry growl. A few moments later, a Sylvari man came walking around a corner of the inn. Gothard barked at him loudly, but the man did not stop. He was dressed as a warrior, and carried a long sword and wooden shield. His clothes were covered by a coating of fur, most likely wolven. His face was white and stern, with long blonde hair flowing from under his helmet. He called out to them from a few yards away.
“There is something loose in the village. A big lizard or something. It has killed most everybody. But I just saw it. It had an open chance to catch your friend, but for some reason it didn’t touch him. I want to know why.”

let's pretend Vorrioch never happened... since he said he'd have a hard time finding time... uhuh..
I don't know what to do about Drakar. Perhaps we can ignore him for now. If he decides to return he still can. If we don't hear anything in a month... he's dead too. We're managing very very well as it is right now, and you guys are doing a GREAT job at this adventure. Keep the pace, and keep the tension and activity. We'll have a blast if it continues like it does right now.

The sorceress' bolt rested on her crossbow after she completed the spell that would ensure a true strike. She aimed for the heart of the leaders of the thugs, her hand steadier than normal, her eyes locked on the target.
The man turned, but suddenly halted when another visitor appeared in front of him. The man said something, then added: "One last thing, if you are holding onto something that we may want to know, run fast, for Percifeer is a little ..."
He paused, and the thugs' leader suddenly gasped. Miran mouthed the word 'hotblooded' as the hoodlum fell forward on the pavement, dead. Percifeer's bolt was sticking from his back, in the middle of a rapidly growing blood-stain. The other thugs, but one of them grabbed a purse from his leader's hands before fleeing.
They had retrieved the money that had been stolen originally, but the 35 guain for information were gone.

even if the writer of the Golden Compass made comments, even if he wrote that some kids from the book kill a character who calls himself 'God', I still don't see why such a fuss would be made. Does it mean we stop thinking?
It's like your examples with the computer stuff, we don't stop thinking. That is why impossible computer-plots are idiotic, and that's why we can simply disagree with the writer's ideas if he says the religion in the story is bad. It would be a sad day when you cannot write your feelings down in proze, and it's a sad day if you are unable to bring books to the screen.
You know, it would feel different for me if it had been a 'warning', you know. Religious fanatics should be free to say: take care, the ideas in this movie may go against what you believe. The fact that they freaked out, and called for a boycot is just really really strange to me.
but perhaps this is not the forum to have such a discussion

Subject: oohh movies I've seen
Juno was indeed pretty alright, not more than that. It's nowhere near worth the hype that was created about it; something I though Cloverfield was worthy of. The leading actress is good in her role, but she's mainly just acting like she always is.
We have seen Hard Candy, and I should just warn you not to get your hopes up. It's a decent enough movie, but the credibility of it's ending is a little off. The idea is good, the acting too, but it's not entirely convincing story-wise. We 'enjoyed' it enough, so if you're interested in Elen Page's work, check it out. If there are other movies in the videostore that you're more enthusiastic about to see as well, you'd do best picking those.
The Golden Compass was very enjoyable, with some moments of weakness and an ending that screams "Sequel". If you haven't seen it yet, perhaps it's better to wait and find out if they're making the sequel or not. If they do make the sequel, wait with watching until it comes out. You'll definately be wanting to check part II out in theaters. If no sequel comes, then rent it some time and have a good old fantasy time.
I don't see what all the religious fuss is about either. I think it's weird when people call out for the public not to go see a movie because of religion. Are they afraid people will start thinking differenly afterwards? I watch movies with serial killers, but that doesn't make me one.
anyway... we saw The Mist yesterday. It was a GREAT movie, even though we had a sucky experience at the theater. It's almost as good as the Stephen King book, which is one of the best he ever wrote, in my opinion. The acting is good, the religiously crazy woman the scariest and most manipulative you've ever seen those kind of people in movies. The monsters are fantasticly creepy.
Ok, so they changed the ending. They've managed to get you leaving the theater with the same feeling of disorientation and horror that the book did. The makers of this movie understand that fear is not created by bringing the scariest monsters to screen. There is much, much more going on.

Quilanday stood uncomfortably at Elessar's side. For all her toughness in battle and her rebelious attitude towards Sylvari customs she did not know how to handle this situation. Did anybody ever get used to dealing with grief?
It was remarkable how determined the young bladesinger was to finish her first quest.
"Lady Ouilanday, will you send my deepest sympathies to my father. There may be time to grieve and to write when my mission is complete. I can best honor my mother and serve Sylvari by saving trees and destroying the mutated creatures."
The older bladesinger started to speak:"Elessar, we would all understand..." but Elessarae continued.
"And have you heard anything as to the nature of my mission as it was first laid out? I sent a message to Sillarion that I believed that what has happened with the trees was developed by a far more evil intelligence than that of simple Goblins."
Quilanday shook her head.
"I have had contact with Gyvontill, and he let me know that your mission remains the same. He thinks you are doing very well. You've discovered much usefull information. But why do you think there are larger forces at work? No matter what, your mission remains to investigate what the goblins are up to. If an intelligent evil is behind this, report about it, alright?"
