Not only was I feeling the weight of two additional jobs this week, but I caught the flu at the end of the week... not fun at all. I was lucky enough to have recovered quickly though because I would have been pretty bummed about not being able to make good on the tickets we bought for Pirates today.

Well, off to post, and thanks for everyone's patience.

For the record:

Spiff, you don't realize there are people below you (failed Awareness/Notice).

Firewind, you'll not notice them either as you'll have Merry Deth in your arms.

Peacekeeper, however, will notice them, though the structure of the fire escape makes it impossible to determine the "mood". With teleoptics and image enhancement you can determine who it is. You'll recognize Craoker, of course, and DigitalScribe, but not the huge black man with them.

Bullseye: the van will fit down the alley that Preacher and Coyote are motioning you over to, but it'll be a place where you won't have a lot of mobility should you drive down it.

Guardian will recognize when people have stepped out onto the fire escape overhead as will Croaker, though they step out after the stairs have started to lower and after DigitalScribe makes his offer.

Subject: Datawatch and other things.

The Datatel "Treasurer" Datawatch is basically a tightly compacted PDA, much like an advanced Blackberry or Q. It has 26 functions some of which are listed in the book, others we get to make up as they seem reasonable. The ones listed in the book are:

1. calendar
2. world time
3. stopwatch
4. lunar phases
5. thermometer
6. pressure gauge

I'll add (please keep in mind that the Treasurer has no processor so it cannot run Skill or Utility programs. Other versions of the watch will contain processors, though they won't be as stylish):

7. ocean tide monitor
8. advanced calculator
9. contact book
10. voice recording (10 minutes)
11. digital camera (think 4 megapixel, 25 pictures)
12. spreadsheet capabilities
13. e-book capabilities (can hold 5 books)
14. games
15. Notebook (text editing)
16. Dataterm link (the ability to download some information from a Dataterm to the watch like maps, etc.)
17. Cellphone link
18. Computer link
19. GPS/Compass
20. Video replay (again, you have to hook up to a cellphone, computer, or Dataterm for this option to work. The watch has enough memory to download up to five short [30-second] videos).
21. Borameter
22. Environ Scanner (only a 2 meter range).
23. IFF transmitter (personal code used by military and special operations groups to help coordinate military maneuvers. You can turn this on and off and a new code can be programed by a techie).
24. Measuring tape (very complicated digital tape measure that works by measuring your steps and comparing it to data entered previously. Not extremely accurate, but close enough, neh?)
25. Time (Second, Minute, Hour, Military).
26. Depth reading

As for the conversation, I don't mind players communicating, but please remember that the characters are going to act as they see fit. Emotions on the player level will stay level or I'll make sure I have level-headed players. I don't want the game ruined for anyone. In this case, and in order to calm some nerves, both Coyote and Preacher feel that leaving Bullseye out front is a tactical error. As such, they've stayed where they might off their only means of transportation some support should the need arise. Croaker may very well get really pissed off when he turns and sees the two still crouched near the other corner, but that can be handled in game play. Let's keep the heat there.

Streetdeal... let's get a little detailed here. You'd use Streetdeal to figure out and hook up with contacts on the shady side of the law. "This is the ability to deal with the underground information network. With Streetdeal, a Fixer can uncover rumors and information, locate missing persons or things, put gossip out on the Street, pick up clues and score big deals. The higher your Streetdeal ability, the more information you can gather about things happening around you, the more informants you have, and the more secretive the information you can dig up is. A level +3 can get you contacts for weapons, tools, or minor illegal operations. At level +5, you can penetrate the secrets of all but the most powerful crime families. At level +9, you are the quivelant of a Mafia crimelord yourself, privy to every secret that's on the Street.

As you can see, it is primarily a skill related to information gathering and setting up the meets. The reason you are using Persuasion and things of that nature are because they more appropriately fit what you're doing at this point. Getting the schematics... well, if you were to take the time to dig something like that up yourself, then I'd have rolled on your Streetdeal, but your faceman did it so I rolled on his. He gets a bonus because of your Streetdeal rank (working off of your reputation), but he still rolls on his own since he's doing the work. Hope that helps clear things up. Oh, and the Datawatch doesn't give you a bonus to Streetdeal that I've seen. If you've got other information please send it my way.

I've revised the map to reflect current positions. Please keep in mind that DigitalScribe and Guardian are no longer on the top floor. They are on the fourth story fire escape level. Peacekeeper, Spiff, and Firewind (with their kidnap victim) are on the sixth floor, and Croaker, Coyote, Preacher, and Bullseye are on ground level:

I didn't forget you Logan. You'll be pulling up at the time I left off. Bullseye can see a bunch of activity within the building by way of shadows passing in front of the windows, but as of yet, he sees no one coming out.

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side – Night City – 12:53am

Croaker and Coyote waited on Preacher’s approach, their nerves on end as they glanced anxiously up at the barred windows on either side of them. When the cowboy splashed up to them and took up position on Coyote’s other side Croaker looked back towards the street, then further down the rain-washed alley.

“This way,” he hissed into the night as he darted away leaving Coyote momentarily heading in the wrong direction and Preacher standing momentarily distracted by the ganger’s obvious misdirection. The solo couldn’t blame the punk, after all, hadn’t Croaker just sent Bullseye to the front?

“Where are you going?” Coyote whispered over his shoulder, now standing upright near the corner. Amazingly enough, the nomad heard him over the splash of his feet and the thunderous storm.

“OK, we don’t have much time and I don’t want to go in the front door unless we have no choice, so we need to get the fire escape down.” Croaker turned about on his heel, his automatic weapon held casually in his right hand as he hastily explained his plan.

“But don’t that put your tribesman sittin’ like a dressed duck for all them gangers?” Preacher voiced the question that was on both of the other men’s minds. It seemed odd to the solo that the man would hang his brother out to dry like that, but then, he’d never understood Zeroes.

Meanwhile, Coyote, having just heard Preacher voice his own concern, took the opportunity to peer around the corner of the building. He could see the van barely rounding the corner, its headlights blaring across his optics, causing him to squint as the harsh light penetrated his vision. Bullseye was about to pull up in front of the Hole.

Croaker had kept on his way, and as he finished his instruction, the nomad spun about on his heel once more, putting his back to the others, and raced on to the corner of the building. Gazing around the corner, the nomad tried to be both hidden and observant. He could see the length of the alley, basically clear of obstruction, but too thin for anything more than a motorcycle, or a compact citycar to fit through. The fire escape was easily fifteen feet off the ground, the bottom stair pulled up to run parallel with the bottom level. Running his eyes up to the heights, the nomad caught a disturbing sight. There, passing through the iron and steel stairwell to the next level were two figures, both in trench coats, one with an obvious shoulder-mounted camera. It was definitely DigitalScribe, or Jumper, or Frankie, whatever Croaker felt like calling him, it was certainly one in the same. The fellow behind him was someone the nomad didn’t recognize, but it was obvious to him that as he saw them, they spotted him.

Meanwhile, Preacher had remained where he was, next to Coyote, unsure of the nomad’s gameplan. He’d been unable to reach companions in the past and had paid heavily for it. He was very reluctant to leave Bullseye alone at the spillway for the gangers and for the first time that night, he’d disobeyed Croaker’s direct orders while he waited for some sign of sanity, his weapon held ready.

The phone left Spiff’s hands and flew through the air to land easily in Peacekeeper’s left. “Call your boy and get those wheels here now! Firewind, cover up her face so we can move her out of here without letting her end up on video. We still don’t know where your media is, and I ain’t takin’ any chances.”

The schematics had shown the fixer the way best possible way out, but he instinctively knew that they had very little time.

“All right, Peacekeerp. Lock that door and get out of the way. Firewind, help me move this couch in front of it. It might buy us some time. There appears to be a fire escape through that office, so get our ride down there and let’s get the frack out of here.”

Peackeeper glanced down the hall at the carnage and then quickly decided that Spiff had something there. Stepping aside, she used closed the doors and turned the knob that locked them. Walking over to the corner by the kitchen and allowed a frown to crease her face as she tried to remember the cell number Croaker had ended up with for the night.

“I got nothin’,” she snarled. “I got frackin’ nothin’! Croaker doesn’t normally carry a cell, and the one he’s got on him isn’t his. I don’t know the number.”

Firewind had cast about for some way to cover Merry Deth’s face as Spiff had instructed, and, finding nothing, had opted to use her tank top, pulling the white cloth up and over her head revealing a perfectly formed torso marred only by the red bra. The medic looked a little sheepishly at the fixer and then both men went to move the couch. Spiff discovered that his wound must’ve been superficial, because despite the pain, he wasn’t hindered too badly in carrying his end, and within seconds, the couch was moved in front of the door.

Having nothing else to do, Peacekeeper made her way towards the office, her handgun at ready. She didn’t know what to expect, but she was always cautious. That’s what kept her alive in the vicious game she called her life. The interior of the office was dark, but the light from the room she’d just come through washed across the rain-streaked windows making it difficult to see anything outside. It looked clear to her though she couldn’t see the way to open the window just yet through the vertically hanging blinds.

“It looks good,” she called back over her shoulder while trying to ignore the pain in her thigh.

The Mean Streets – Upper East Side - Night City/Rooftop next to the Hole – 12:53pm

"Scribe. You do know we can't stay here for long, right? There'll be some leather and led coming our way from the top soon and that girl of yours... She's going to use the same route to escape as we are. And despite the heat of the battle, she may still decide it's safer to shoot us first and ask questions later even if she does recognize us not being the enemy. You getting me? So I'd say we either take a hike and fast, or we somehow let them know we're on their side... sort of."

“Frack!” DigitalScribe knew Guardian was right, mostly because Peacekeeper had just started heading their way. His mind racing, the media shook his head, discarding one idea, then shook his head again. “She hates my frackin’ guts Guardian. She see’s us and I’m about eighty percent positive we strike a match. We don’t and we’re playing tag all frackin’ night.”

Looking at his bodyguard with a serious expression on his face, DigitalScribe made a quick decision. He hadn’t known Croaker to ever operate in a kidnapping racket. Nor had he ever heard of Peacekeeper being the type to perform such a deed. He also had his doubts about the slick fixer known as Springed-Heel Jack stooping to such lows, but here he was witnessing a girl being tagged and wrapped up in her own shirt while this crew shot up a lion’s den full of piranha. He knew right then and there that his suspicions were confirmed: something huge was going down and they needed to stay on the team’s six to land the story.

“Down, Guardian, and fast. We don’t have much time.” DigitalScribe’s hand darted into his pocket and went for his phone. He didn’t pull it out this time, instead, he activated the Cabhailer™ attached to the base as he swung around the rail and began to quickly descend the stairs.

As his feet pounded the steel, DigitalScribe glanced up and his heart practically stopped. Peering around the far corner, some thirty meters off and another twenty meters down a figure was peering up at them. Frankie’s thought process sent his cyberoptics into action and the space between them disappeared.

“Damn,” he muttered as he kept up the pace. “It’s Croaker down there.”

Guardian didn’t need to be warned, he’d already seen the man and his own optical enhancements were already at play. He’d determined that the man was large, though not quite as large as he, and he was packing a submachine gun that sported a grenade launcher on the bottom. He’s also already determined that the man was in range of his handgun, if barely, and that put DigitalScribe and himself in easy range of the submachine gun.

Char felt his weapons connect and immediately set about stepping around the back of the man once more. Worry bou' eidder Da' Moon er da ranger, bu' no' da both o' us. His sword play was elaborate, but utilitarian. The strangely curved blades whistled through the air as the woodsman cut and slashed at his enemy, all the while trying to keep his eye on the area about them.

When the bullywugs appeared the ranger had a momentary panic as he thought that they must've been summoned by an enemy spellcaster, and for a brief moment in time--not even the passing of a second--the ranger was torn between breaking off his combat with the green and rushing to intercept these new threats. That was, until he spotted Valentine moving up behind them.

He knew he didn't need to inform his companions of the need to make quick work of the enemy, so he continued to focus on the severly injured individual he'd just slashed. Providing Dapple doesn't take him down first. In that case, Char will turn his attention on the other green in an effort to quickly decide his fate. So long as those green golems are restrained, the imperials are certianly the greater threat.

Would primarily be the skills and gear. Other than that, I'll pretty much handle all of the rolling, etc. You just need to know what the character is capable of. His history is nice for character play too. If it isn't on your sheet, you don't have it.

As far as backreading, you don't really need to do much, maybe a couple of pages back to where Bullseye was being posted for. Same thing for Peacekeeper.

Prime point: Bullseye is a member of Croaker's defunct family. As far as the two of them know they are the last. Nomad code would mean they stick together through thick and thin. Doesn't necessarily mean that they'd always agree with one another though.

Looking forward to you both joining the game.

“Wraith? Wraith is that you?”

Wyatt had turned quickly, his hand darting to his hog’s heel, at Kora’s outburst. He’d seen her flashbacks as well, but this had come completely unexpectedly. Normally something had to trigger it and he wasn’t expecting anything in that small, out of the way claim to do that. Glancing over to where Sam had responded, he realized that they must’ve known each other way back when during the War and though his face remained its usual mask of indifference, inside he instantly became worried as to what kind of relationship these two had shared.

“She’s okay! Just give her a few moments. They usually come as fast as they go.” Willow explained, though Wyatt knew it was for their host’s benefit, not the crew’s.

Wyatt gave Dash and Asher a cautioning look accompanied by a slight shake of the head to warn off any investigating on their part. If Kora or Sam wanted to share their past, that was their business. So far, things were going in a relaxed fashion. There was nothing to indicate Sam’d conjure up trouble and his recognition of Kora was filled with surprise, but his demeanor didn’t change none.

Wyatt Sung had learned long ago that Willow was best suited to deal with the grease-monkey when she went all prehistoric. He’d worn a bruise on his left butt cheek and hip for quite some time when he’d made the mistake of putting his hand on her shoulder near the rail of the cargo bay overlook the first time he’d experienced it. He’d discovered just how long of a drop that was and how painful it was to limp around indignant while he healed up. Kora’d been right embarrassed by her huckin’ the captain over the rail routine, but there was nothing for it. The way he saw it, he’d walked in on that bear and deserved the mauling.

When it looked like she was coming about, he said softly, “You ku, Kora?”

You folks are on the south-facing wall. From your current location there are a few windows, but anything low enough for even an easily manageable ladder is barred. The windows are the same all around. The front of the building (east face) has the entrance. The back of the building has a fire escape, but that is fifteen feet from the ground. It lowers to the ground as a stair when released from the lowest platform.

Subject: The rear door and more.

The rear door to the building has yet to be discovered. Croaker, Coyote, and Preacher are on the southeast corner. The main doors are on the east side, about midway. If the trio hoofs it around the west side they are going to find a back door, but it is set in a recess and retreats into the ground about five feet. It looks to be more of a utility access than an entrance to the building and is padlocked, made of steel (a firedoor), and rust-marked. The bottom of the stairwell will be filled with about an inch and a half of water floating all sorts of crap.

Croaker, you need two Interface Plugs in order to link up two guns and you only have one. Besides which, to fight with two weapons is a -3 penalty for each hand.

Spiff can see that there's a door leading into what appears to be a comfy office and there are windows there, but he cannot see a fire escape, per se.
