The crew all gathers, Wyatt feels the space about him receding with alarming alacrity. Ivy sharing her "talent" seems involuntary to the captain but he cares for it none. Infirmary and engineering quarters... got it, he files the information away as the young lady exits the bridge.

“Chi de JÄ«ng ma,” the big mechanic exclaims.

"Captain," Alex glances up at Wyatt, "as you know, we haven't been pushing it on this run. We can easily make up for a six-hour stop. Even twenty-four hours could be caught up easily enough and would have us arriving as scheduled. That's your window."

That's a lot of time for the 'Verse t' put some Bad in motion, Sung mentally scowls but keeps a serene expression on his face as he nods his acceptance of the information the pilot has shared.

While Wyatt continues to study the ship, Alex adds, "I can bring us closer away from the nose of the thing. With no power it is hard to imagine that cannon firing, but I'm not big on chances. Then it would be shuttle time." He slowly guides the ship closer and glances up at the captain again. "Captain?"

“Wyatt," Fenris adds, "Cap’n, we have to board her, see if we can salvage the ship and her cargo. Captain, I think we need to board her with you, myself, Pops or Sean for their tech knowledge, or both, and Alaxis in case there is anyone alive on her.”

Scratching at his clean-shaven chin, Wyatt looks to his friend, pondering what to say next. The crew is waiting on his decision; times like these are where a leader takes the lives of those in his care in his hands. A single decision can change the lives of everyone on board... or end them.

Still calm as a statue on the outside, Wyatt drops his hand and hooks it in his gunbelt. "We're goin' over, Wolf. Rest easy. Alex, take us right on up like you was plannin'.

"If that's THE Demeter, then there's a lot o' unknowns, an' I don' like unknowns. So, we all 'll be goin' over en force... 'cept Ivy. Alex, once we're in place, join us in the shuttle an' lock the controls. Make sure Ivy's got the keycode but we sure as hell ain't leaving Destiny open fer a kidnappin'.

"Pops an' Wolf, make sure the EV suits are all in the shuttle just in case we can't lock horns."

Leaning his hip against the frame of the console, Wyatt locks eyes with each of his crew in turn as he says, "Any concerns, now's the time t' speak up."

-----------------

With their plans laid, Sung tracks down Ivy and when he makes sure that no one else is about, he dips his head and looks her in the eyes from beneath concerned brows, "You OK, Ivy-girl? You tuned int' that radio pretty hard."

Even at 200 feet, you've so many obstructions in place as to not give you any decent insight into street-level activity. Especially not face recognition. The highest you could go is 30 feet. That's the level of the first flight paths allowed for everyday drones in the city. It's below the aerodyne flight zone and still high enough to not impede pedestrian traffic.

Still waiting on Keeper and Giddy.

Hoping for a post from Giddy and Keeper really soon.

A couple of clarifying points:

  1. The wires mixed in with the clotheslines are likely people splicing off datalines. This would be a common sight in alleys and not one that you folks would be overly concerned with, except...

  2. Those clotheslines and wires make flying a drone into that alley challenging. It'll take some good Pilot: Drone skill checks. I'll require one to fly in and one to fly out, DC 16. Failure means that the drone strikes one of the wires and begins a rapid descent (crash). In the case that this happens, I'll allow for one more Pilot: Drone check DC 18 to recover before it strikes the ground, taking damage. If Charlie succeeds at the DC 18 check, he'll need to make another check DC 16 to fly the rest of the way out.

  3. Flying the drone around the block successfully requires a Pilot: Drone DC 14 check (that's programming the drone along the path with the anti-collision settings in place and setting it in motion).

  4. Blossom is able to provide an employee picture from Upstairs/Downstairs Inc so you all know what Rya Mendez looks like (Those of you with Optic Splices can utilize facial rec features in your NuCybe).

  5. Blossom is also able to pull a few of the Dead Dogs' mugshots that you can use to trigger your facial rec software.

  6. Waiting for Blossom to do her thing takes about ten minutes.

  7. Waiting for Charlie to get his drone set up and flying takes about five minutes (including setting the flight path around the block).

I've been through Gib's spells. Even if I decided to risk a bunch of free attacks to cast something, there's nothing that will help more than his sword. So, he's going to keep swinging as long as he is able.

If the party is spread out at all, allowing the enemy to flank them, Gib will attempt to move into a better position to shore up their sides or back but not at the expense of offensively removing one of the enemies from the fight. Right now, the warrior side of the warrior-priest is all he can fall back on. If there's to be a miracle, it won't be from any magic, gear, or skill that Moreno has. Sorry folks.

To the Halls of the Battle Lord!!!

Refraining from wincing as he's forced to twist away from another potential blow to the same side he'd just received one on, Gib brings his shield in front of him again and adjusts his position for better footing. All about him the hissing and growling of their foes fills the sickly night adding to the franticness of the fight. He's through with his Warrior's Prayer, his energy being spent wholly on the battle now, and he knows instinctively that the party is in a very grim position.

Aranwen had almost been knocked to the ground, Ch'dau was suffering as well, and despite having heard Kithran return to the fight, the warrior-priest feels that the press of decaying bodies is still too much for them to withstand. Keep fighting, Moreno commands himself. For the glory of Therassor and the lives of my friends, I shall keep fighting!

He can almost see the Grand Halls of the Battle Lord. They await...

There's a lot of opportunity for back posting and carrying on with the characters getting to know one another over the time they've been onboard Destiny. However, I don't want to bog the game down and bore Alacrity so I'm proposing we post what the other characters may know about your character here just to hurry things along. I'll set the example. What Wyatt has let slip or what the others might have observed about Wyatt and the same with Ivy (which Roger may adjust if I'm off base):

  1. Wolf and Wyatt:

    1. Wyatt and Fenris met before they joined the War.

    2. They ended up in prison together bound by law; Fenris for fighting, Wyatt for killing a bunch of men who had killed his family.

    3. Fenris is the one that convinced Wyatt to take the offer from the Sheriff to hotfoot it off-planet and join the Browncoats.

    4. Fenris and Wyatt went their separate ways when they joined and Wyatt ended up piloting a Firefly-class blockade runner.

    5. They met up again just before boarding the Victorious.

    6. Fenris knows that Wyatt had become an alcoholic after the war trying to deal with the loss of his wife and daughter and that he's been sober for a short time now (again, just before boarding the Victorious).

    7. Wolf also knows that Wyatt is extremely superstitious. He believes strongly in the Rule of Three where three good things occur followed by three bad things. He also believes in Karma and Merit.

    8. Wyatt would have had no problem explaining to Wolf that Eden, his wife, is watching over him as the "ghostly woman in white."

  2. Alaxis and Wyatt:

    1. Wyatt and Pops hired Alaxis in a meeting at a small bar near the shipyard.

    2. After Alaxis had been on board for a couple of days, it would have become apparent to the doctor that he wants to drink but avoids it.

    3. Wyatt is reserved and respectful towards women and keeps space between him and the opposite sex.

    4. Wyatt served as a Browncoat against the Alliance. He still wheres his standard-issue brown trench coat.

  3. Pops and Wyatt:

    1. Wyatt, Pops, and Wolf had some opportunities to conversate between the Victorious being blown up and finding Destiny. Then again while they were working on refitting Destiny and hiring on the crew.

    2. Pops would know that Wyatt has lost his family and that it was by murder.

    3. He'd know that Wyatt has been at odds with the Law in the past.

    4. He'd know that Wyatt served as a Browncoat pilot and blockade runner.

    5. He'd know that Wyatt is an alcoholic but hasn't had a drink in months.

    6. Pops also knows that Wyatt is extremely superstitious. He believes strongly in the Rule of Three where three good things occur followed by three bad things. He also believes in Karma and Merit.

    7. Wyatt would have had no problem explaining to Pops that Eden, his wife, is watching over him as the "ghostly woman in white."

  4. Alex and Wyatt

    1. Wyatt and Pops hired Alex, again at a small bar near the shipyard.

    2. Alex knows that Wyatt was a blockade runner for the Browncoats and a good pilot.

    3. Alex also knows that Wyatt is extremely superstitious. He believes strongly in the Rule of Three where three good things occur followed by three bad things. He also believes in Karma and Merit.

  5. Fox and Wyatt

    1. Wyatt and Pops hired Fox, again at a small bar near the shipyard.

    2. Fox knows that Wyatt was a Browncoat and can pilot Destiny.

    3. Fox also knows that Wyatt is superstitious.

"I don't like it none," Wyatt mutters. "Xiâoxin. We've been running on too much good luck t' not have it blow back in our faces. Take us int' visual range but be ready on the throttle."

Striding back to the co-pilot's chair, Wyatt drops into it and straps down. Switching the sensor readout on, he plays with the dial until the readings are taking in as large a swatch of the Black as is possible. Without meaning to, his thoughts leap to his crew; newly together without any experience working as a team under their belts. Too little time together... no trainin' fer any Máfan as a crew, he considers while intently watching the readings on the sensors as Alex continues their course. Pressing his lips together and ignoring the crease developing between his brows, Captain Sung considers each of them.

Ivy's a special situation and he passes her by right away. He has no wish to put her in danger and doesn't like to think of her as involved in any Máfan. Moving on to Wolf, he knows for certain that the big man is a good hand in trouble. Not only due to the recent encounter that left them floating in the Black, not a chance in the 'Verse of being rescued, some crazy fighting ships having torn their transport apart—similarities between those fighters and Destiny notwithstanding—but Fenris and he had served together during the War. I can count on him.

Alaxis Van'Stathem. Doctor and thus far untested in Wyatt's eyes. Red hair... Earth That Was had a number of different opinions about red-headed people. Glancing up so he can see the stretching darkness of the Black out the viewport, Sung does his best to remember what he'd learned in school no small number of years ago. Most peoples of Earth That Was had been removed from superstitious considerations for centuries. Ma had taught Wyatt otherwise. Too zaizi, the captain mentally curses. Why can't I remember? He'd had the same problem when he considered hiring her on. The interaction with her had made him like her well enough but there's always that paranormal side of things to consider. Now I'm gonna have t' check the Cortex.

Pops is a good hand as well. Wyatt hasn't been around him long enough to really suss out the details, but he respects the ex-captain and trusts that he'll hold his own. So far he's been invaluable as both a person to bounce ideas off of and someone to bounce Wolf off of.

Alex is still something of an enigma but has been competent at the stick. Just like everyone else on board Destiny, Alex has kept his secrets to himself. Similarly, Fox was a little bit of an unknown. These two being the most mysterious out of the lot of the crew and the least likely to offer up any part of themselves in conversation when everyone is at meal or hanging out in the Rec Room. Too many unknowns, Wyatt mentally grumbles as he tears his eyes from the Black and returns his gaze to the monitors.

“We will not survive a retreat! Ch’dau, to the front!”

Aranwen's orders seep in through the din of battle and the sickening groans of the undead. So be it, Moreno sets his resolve, his willingness to die in the service of his god.

“Midge and Cedric, drop back when he arrives,” Aranwen continues calling out, “Gib and I will cover you!”

Glancing towards the companions who have been ordered back, the warrior-priest maneuvers to a position where he can cover the holes they left, following the orders of his leader.

“To the Hunt and blood for Rrowl!!!” The roar echoes amongst the trees as the Kazari storms the front. More roars follow as, in passing Cedric and Midge, he urges the two back to where Kith waits. The last roar drowns out the echoes of the others as, when he reaches the tumult of the battle, he launches himself in full fury into the thick of the horde.

"Give me strength and skill, Battle Father!" Gib steps up his offensive game. Determined to dispatch as many of the foul abominations as he can before he falls, the priest settles into the flow of battle. A retreat is off the table and the only option left to them is to make their mark. Mentally reciting Therassor's Warrior Prayer, Moreno uses the tempo of the scripture to drive his attack.

Bleeding from a split lip and bruised jaw where a zombie's balled fist managed to be right in his face as he turned from another attack, Gib swiftly assessed their situation. He had grossly miscalculated how close those zombies had been and regrets not having the wherewithal to of suggested a fast retreat with Kith in hand when they had the chance.

"The tactical retreat isn't working," he calls to his friends as he maneuvers another heavy undead attack to his shield resulting in a dull thunk with the faintest sounds of a splatter. "There are too many!" Even after pointing out the obvious, his mind is working towards an alternative solution while he does his best to take in what he can see within Cedric's light of their surroundings. Looking for any place that will put their backs to a solid barrier and keep the shambling corpses from further flanking them. Cursing, the priest of the Battle Lord receives another blow against his shield. We must break free and put distance between us. That's the only way to survive.

"Aranwen!" he spits out bloodily. "Call a full retreat. We cannot withstand this onslaught further."

Destiny Day 3, 7:00 pm Ship Time (ST)

“Captain to the bridge. Got something you need to see and hear.”

“Something is out there.” Ivy's faint voice filters in. “Something that needs help.”

Looking up from the book he is reading on the Cortex, Wyatt frowns and sets the reader aside on the couch and quickly cuts across the remainder of the rec room to the bridge. Stepping through the door, he catches Ivy's worried look and gives a subtle shake of the head.

"Might not be the best time t' be distractin' Uncle Alex, Ivy-girl," he moves up to hover over the left shoulder of his pilot and scans the panels. "What'cha got?"

(OOC: Assuming he's filled in quickly and succinctly.)

"Proceed at speed," Captain Sung orders and snatches the comm mic from its cradle. Thumbing the activator, Wyatt fills in the rest of the crew. "We got ourselves an unknown some three thousand klicks ahead and in path. I'd appreciate everyone gettin' situation for whatever Gorram shinanigans are 'bout t' go down." It's been a long time comin'... now at least I can start countin' the bad.

Hooking the mic back into the cradle, Wyatt asks Alex, "What kinda ship are you readin' it t' be?" Running his left hand through his loose midnight black hair, the captain's frown deepens.

I do some actual work for a few hours and, BOOM! I've got three pages of Q&A to catch up on!

Looking at the wounds that we've already suffered I'm not sure we can take the beating from a full-on retreat. But we are also facing off against a horde that will likely beat us down in combat as well, especially without Ch'Dau's involvement. So, this is what I think would be a grand idea:

  1. Ch'dau hucks Kith as far up into a tree as possible like a purse in a ghetto fight.

  2. Ch'dau joins us in the fight and Cedric and Midge falls back out of melee range. Cedric to use that Turn Undead act that he has pulled before and potentially Heal any who look too beat up and Midge to STAY ALIVE! Midge could maybe even join Kith in the tree and use his magic to pummel the undead.

  3. The rest of us keep doing damage and make an offering of Doritos, Funions, and Mt. Dew to the GM for some divine intervention.

Or...

  1. Do we still have the Light from the prayer Cedric cast leaving the camp? If so, the make sure Cedric is in the middle of the group and we all hotfoot it outta Compton. Straight Outta... Taking whatever beating we receive in the process. Maybe screaming in terror might be appropriate as we Scooby and Shaggy.

  2. If someone falls due to the free round of sucker-punching our unprotected kidneys... Well, Gib's learned his lesson. No more going after fallen allies!
