"Starlight is out front," Vegas reports. "She says she is not coming in. I have to come out and meet her to receive the goods. The way her message is worded I have no other options." Tipping his hat to those at the table, the suited solo turns to meet their fixer.

Moving quickly, Casino lunges to his feet and grabs his partner's arm. "Vegas, wait hold up. You can't go out front of the club. Those boosters are waiting for you out there and all you'll do is start a gunfight that will draw Starlight in. That will not make her very happy with us at all and that's something we need to avoid. On top of that the drama it will cause for Lady Campbell will be bad for her and her club's rep, and in the end, for us too. We could lose this place as a meeting site and without a doubt, her good will as well. Message Starlight and see if she can meet us in the back or a nearby location first. If not, then we may have to pick them up from her later."

Silently watching the interaction, Fixer nods his agreement to the leather-clad solo's plan.

"You guys see if you can get that door open when we get there," Ghlahn orders. "And I'll make sure the sec-team leaves us alone long enough for you to do it."

Door security such as the one you are moments away from facing shouldn't be too high-tech. Tunnels such as these are usually owned and maintained by the city with corporations providing the materials and leasing the trains. At least, that's the thought. Night City's budget for securing the maintenance tunnels was—Blossom could hope—far less adequate than a megacorp's. Brown, almond shaped eyes are already searching the poor angles underneath the lone, pale light fixture marking the door for signs of a security panel as she pulls away from Bloodbank's helpful support. If the security is as simple as the wardriver hopes, it could mean a quick routine uplink (hardwired, of course) followed by running a Stealth program to mask her presence and keep additional security programs from initiating, and then putting the Codecracker routine to work.

"Just... Try not to kill them, please!" Bloodbank calls back over his shoulder through his combat mask to the sniper guarding your six. Wrought by reasonable concern over the well-being of the sec-team (after all, they are facing what could be classified as a sealed fate), another thought permeates the med-tech's mind. Reinforcements. Out of the question?

"No, it wouldn't necessarily," Bloodbank silently realizes as his feet pound the cement pathway. "There could very well be guards waiting for us upon our exit from the tunnels. There's absolutely nothing stopping the security team from radioing in backup to wait for us on the streets."

Again, he glances back at the security team trying to deal with the large, unnaturally durable canine contraption. Would the small group of edgerunners fair as well trying to escape another security team? And if so, at what cost of innocent life? They'd have to wander in the tunnels a bit, Bloodbank decided. He knows that the tunnels are all somewhat interconnected, created by the nanobite technology that was released on the city after the Arasaka Nuke leveled it some years ago, and it is possible to pop out somewhere very different from what might be expected. All they really need to do is find the least likely exit point and head in that direction. It will probably add some travel time before they actually arrive at the school, but it is a far preferable event to the violent alternative, at least for the life-conscious medic. Now is not the time to share his thoughts with his allies, he concludes and keeps the plan under his hat for the moment.

Echo shares Bloodbank's concerns, though their unity is as of yet unvoiced. Keeping up with Blossom and the med-tech has been simple even with the extra weight she's carrying for the injured netrunner. Perhaps her athleticism has to do with the way her tribe lives; rough and wild without any of the amenities the cities provide. Speculation on this subject is very much subconscious. For now, the lithe woman is focused on her immediate feelings of guilt over the loss of innocent life.

Reaching out with her free hand, Echo quickly touches both of those running ahead of her on their arms to get their attention. "How much do we know of these tunnels? Do we have a map, or can we pull one up quickly? I'd prefer to avoid any other security folks, if possible. No need to take any other lives if we don't have to, or call more attention to ourselves in the process."

(OOC: Ayrn and Giddy, you may respond, but I'm moving you forward to try and keep pace with the other group.)

Looking back over his shoulder and through the slightly shaded optics shield of his battle mask, Ghlahn confirms that the sec-team is still very much engaged with the Hellhound Blossom released on them.

The rush of the train has past, but the tunnel still carries the whoosh of wind as a loud roar further ahead. Ghlahn's timed glance catches the sec-team member holding the man M'harú Ghlahn had shot in the head struggle to land a shot resulting in sparks flying from the wall over the shoulder of the construct. The beast responds by clawing at the team member directly in front of it, connecting, and turning the man's right leg to the side with the force of the blow. Twisting from the impact, the soldier attempts to fire with his submachine gun upon his attacker, but the Hellhound ducks under the shot and the rounds are lost somewhere in the tunnel. Ducking under the gunfire puts the construct directly in the line of fire of the last standing, black-clad soldier and the rolling flames across the side of the beast's face are momentarily disrupted with penetrating rounds.

(OCC: End Combat Phase 4, Begin Combat Phase 5 - I'm taking the liberty of moving you forward a bit to resolve to a point where interaction and decisions are more necessary.)

Sounds of combat fill the tunnel now. Full-auto from the submachine gun of a desperate sec-team cuts through the shadow-filled channel followed by the ominous whistling of ricocheted bullets. Blossom slides in front of the door having already located the card reader security panel in her run. Again, casting a look backward, Ghlahn sees that the second sec-team on the platform has moved in to reinforce the first, but it is obvious to him that their immediate attention is on the Hellhound. The distance puts a shot at about long range; not something that intimidates the solo, but because of the two teams' lack of focus on them there's no need to waste a round so he takes holsters his handgun and in one smooth motion, rolls the Nomad .44 Mag from his back to a ready position, taking aim back the way you had just come.

The soldier directly in front of the Hellhound dodges a mean swipe at his head by mere centimeters. The security guard behind him ejects his magazine and retrieves a full one from his vest, slamming it into position and chambering the first round. Meanwhile, the agent directly in front of the Hellhound, the one who had just dodged an attack by the skin of his teeth, has apparently had enough and unloads his weapon directly into the construct's head. Bullets shred the nanite construction and find their way directly into the mindcore. A small explosion occurs and the remaining nanodust falls limply into a pile of drifting, dead technology at the team's feet.

Everyone has arrived at the door, but the construct is destroyed and though the first sec-team has experienced some casualties, there is now a second who has joined them. It looks like the party isn't over yet.

(OOC: End Combat Phase 5, Begin Combat Phase 6)

Gunfire is coming your way in the form of a tight three-round burst from near the gate. Supercharged reflexes and enhanced optics warn Ghlahn of the projectile's impending impact. It's barely enough warning for him to move his head to the left and allow the weaponsfire to pass by with a song. Bloodbank, standing just behind the sniper, is lucky enough to have turned just at that moment and the rounds also miss him.

Hologram-projected light keyboard with wardriver shortcodes and key assignments erupts from the NuCybe bracer Blossom wears on her left hand. With her right, the netrunner is already snaking the interface cable she'd used to attempt the gate security into the bottom port of the panel. Almost at the same time, the Subvision Viewscreen® leaps to life in front of her star-shaped sunglasses for her eyes only. Vivid rolling gears appear as a wall in front of her. A small identifying program has already run in the background and the fact that she's facing a datawall defense is implanted into her brain.

Thank you, everyone who posted. I appreciate it.

All right, so here's where things stand in a nutshell.

Tann, Vesper, and Hammer need to decide if you're going to have your characters go out front to meet with Starlight, or redirect her out back when you take the club manager up on her offer.

Ayrn, Blossom is fully recovered from her STUN situation, so she's capable of retrieving her bag from Echo and proceeding post-haste, or continuing to let the nomad carry her bag for her and sprinting on. The door is 42 meters away from Blossom, which means that you will reach the door at the end of the 5th Combat phase.

The map for the combat encounter is located here: MAP.

"Sorry about this. Vegas and I are normally on the same page." Casino's legitimate apology extends just about the noise of the dated music track. "However, there are times when we do disagree and this is one of them. In the end it all works itself out."

"No problem here," Fixer replies back nonchalantly. "Prefer the loneliness myself. Relationships have always found a way to bite me back."

Was not but a moment later when Fixer turned his head and noticed the Greaser stride away Vegas and back out the door. Mayhap this would turn into a night of firefights after all. His nerves were starting to get to him; his breathing and heart rate quickened a little bit, and he could notice a little bit of feeling leave his fingers. His body was preparing itself a small bit for the even.

"Fixer," the leather-clad solo sighs. "Wait here for Vegas. Once he gets back here tell him I went to talk to the club's manager." Just for good measure, Casino slides his SMG non-threateningly across the table into his companion's care and strides purposefully away.

"Now alone in a place I know nothing about," the words he mutters as both of his 'companions' leave him are devoured by the chatter and soulful sounds of Dean Martin. The technician's frustration peaks a bit as he taps the side of his jacket to assure himself with his UZI's presence.

"Hello there, Mr. Casino," A large Polynesian in a zoot suit with his hair pulled back in a warrior's ponytail greets Casino at the bar. "What can I do for you?

"Hi Moene, If she's available and will see me, I'd like to talk to Miss Campbell about a personal matter."

"Sure thing," the block of Island muscle smiles broadly. "Just a sec."

He turns and catches the other bartender's attention with a wave of his white towel. "I'll be back. Just gotta see if the boss is available for Mr. Casino here."

Having informed his companion, the man turns and approaches the door to Isabel's office. He presses the security panel's touch screen and speaks into the receiving plate. He nods, nods again, and then returns to Casino's position at the bar.

"She'll be out in a moment. Can I get you anything to drink while you wait?"

"No thanks. I still have one at my table. Thanks, of course, for the offer."

Casino waits patiently for only a few moments before the door swings open and a tall woman with darker, Mediterranean coloring steps out. She wears a zoot suit herself, rich purple with white stripes and a fedora that matches with a white, silk band about the cap. Her curly black hair is loose about her shoulders and dangles to just above the SmartFabric® hanky currently alternating through a complementary array of colors to that of her suit. Her white blouse is also silk, the color of the expensive pearls wrapped about her throat. Of average height, Isabel Campbell is nonetheless an imposing figure of command, power, and beauty.

"Mr. Casino," she smiles brilliantly and places her finely manicured hands on the bar's polished and yet scarred surface as she settles in across from him. "It's a pleasure to see you again. What can I do for you?"

Taking her hand Casino kisses it lightly as a gentleman would. "Vegas and I seem to have a problem. It looks like a gang of intellectually challenged boosters calling themselves ‘The Grease Monkeys' are upset over Vegas being Vegas, and his dance with one of their female companions. Upset enough—from the way her boyfriend just confronted Vegas before leaving the club—to ambush us on the street outside. Normally I would not give a s*** and just kill them, however, Vegas and I are on an op and too much exposure is bad for business; both yours and ours. Last thing I want Vegas and I to do is be the cause of a firefight right outside the entrance to your club, Miss Campbell. Like I said, it'd be bad for business to have the police snooping around as to the cause of it. I'm hoping to get your help in getting myself, Vegas, and our friend out of here on the sly and take care of these idiots if it comes to that on our own terms."

Concern creases her otherwise smooth brow. "That Vegas," she affects a small twittering laugh. "A bit of fun and suddenly what could have been fireworks turns into a firefight."

"Tell you what—since I like you boys so much—I'll be happy to see you out the back, but," she pauses and leans in drawing Casino forward with a wiggle of her finger. "You two will owe me."

A smile of understanding crossing his face, Casino gives a slight bow to acknowledge the new debt.

"We are just waiting for some op gear to be dropped off, then we are all your's, Miss Campbell. Once it gets here, I'll grab Vegas and our friend and return here to let Moene know. Thank you for the help. It's a debt I'll personally—if need be—will be happy to fulfill." Taking her hand once more, he kisses it again while looking into her eyes, letting her know without words his attraction to her. Then with a nod to Moene, he walks slowly back to join Fixer and Vegas at the table.

Vegas' conversations with the regulars of the Rat Pack is superficial. Everyone there adopting the looks and mannerisms of a time long past are living in their own fantasy world. The solo knows from years of experience that most of these people are moonlighting the Life and are collarboys and girls during daylight hours.

Periodically checking his Agent for any updates regarding the delivery from Starlight, the Frank Sinatra look-alike makes his way around the ballroom and bar until satisfied that any additional information to be gleaned from the crowd of Rat Packers has been obtained. His casual stroll and politicking eventually brings him back around to the table just moments before his partner arrives.

"Ok," he begins unceremoniously as he slides back into his seat on the bench across the table from Fixer. "Campbell's gonna sneak us out the back to avoid those booster idiots once Starlight drops off the gear. With those boosters gunning for us, now really is not the time to go searching these streets for Dog. I say we link up with the rest, find out what they found, then if needed we come back here with better numbers and find Dog and find out what he may know. Agreed?"

A digital projection resembling a holographic green HUD flashes up from the bottom right corner of Vegas' eye. The display is for his eyes only, a benefit of the Subvision Viewscreen NuCybe technology implanted in his skull. The display reads, "New message available from The Deep." The Deep is Vegas' codeword for the Dark Net just in case his messaging services is intercepted. A mental command brings up the message.

"I'm out front. Not coming in. You come out." The message is from Starlight.

Blossom winces a little as she hobbles forward, leaning heavily on Bloodbank. She spares a look back to see how her pet is faring. Impressive, she smiles. She didn't use the program much... the cost was a bit prohibitive. Yet, each time she brought that dog online, it performed better than spec.

Stay focused, Chica! she chides, bringing herself back to the present. Still a long ways to go and no telling what's ahead.

With every crack of Glahn's pistol, Bloodbank feels a pang of guilt. He wishes he could stop and try to save these poor men, who very likely could have people depending on them, but he also can't toss aside his duties to his new allies. Besides, there was a child to save.

With these not altogether reassuring thoughts in his mind, Bloodbank continues trying to help Blossom move forward; although it feels like she needs his help less and less with every step.

Echo nods to Ghlahn, too focused on getting to a safe spot to argue with him for his command. She comes in line with Blossom and Bloodbank, keeping her firearm ready to clear a path in front of her allies if necessary.

Currents of hot wind buffet each of you as the train continues to gain speed and tear past your position just a few feet from the dangerously fast metal sides of the public transport. The fight continues behind you. Ghlahn glances back again and confirms that the sec-team is still intently focused on that little trick the little Asian model threw their way. Sparks from the rounds striking its flaming metal body are immediately engulfed in the flowing facsimile of flames and the beast continues its rampage.

Smugly tossing a series of mental profane metaphors about the sec-team's lineage their way, Ghlahn determines that a number of factors have rendered the need to continue firing on them useless. He uses this opportunity, instead, to reload his weapon; slipping the partially empty cylinder from the compartment just after he retrieves a full cylinder from his jacket pocket, the solo exchanges them with practiced ease all the while keeping pace with his three companions.

Blossom's ability to carry more of her weight seems to Bloodbank to be nearly full capacity. His assessment of Blossom's recovery is accurate and the little netrunner gently pushes away from him to gain speed as she starts to sprint. Ahead of you, buried into the wall to your right, the door to the city's inner workings (and your escape from the tunnel) is marked by a yellow light casing otherwise out of place in the rhythm that the others have been situated. The door is between forty and fifty yards away. Could this be the end to your troubles with security?

"Sorry about this. Vegas and I are normally on the same page. However, there are times when we do disagree, and this is one of them. In the end it all works itself out," the large man explains with chagrin. The techie shrugs noncommittally.

Casino was starting to doubt that this little jaunt to the Rat Pack had been a good idea, especially as he caught the tail end of the interaction between Vegas and the Grease Monkey. His mind works quickly towards a possible solution.

"Fixer," the leather-clad solo sighs. "Wait here for Vegas. Once he gets back here tell him I went to talk to the club's manager." Just for good measure, Casino slides his SMG non-threateningly across the table into his companion's care and strides purposefully away.

The manager's office was behind the bar. Casino and Vegas had never actually been inside, but they know the night manager's name. Isabel Campbell is a strong-willed woman who understands customer service. Suspicions about that the Rat Pack is actually owned by a mega-corp and that Isabel is a flunky, but no one has dared voice that opinion to her face. Casino's hope is that she's been apprised of the situation and wishes to avoid potential bad media by helping them out the back. So far, the team of solos' interaction with Ms. Campbell had been pure fluff—the type of engagement that warranted nothing more than passing mutual respect and subsequent friendliness. This move really is a gamble.

"Hello there, Mr. Casino," A large polynesian in a zoot suit with his hair pulled back in a warrior's ponytail greets Casino at the bar. "What can I do for you?

(OOC: Casino's request to speak with the boss,)

"Sure thing," the block of Island muscle smiles broadly. "Just a sec."

"She'll be out in a moment. Can I get you anything to drink while you wait?"

(OOC: Casino's response.)

Fixer turns his attention to Vegas, now finding it easier to watch his progression as he's moved back into the techie's line of sight. The suited solo is intent on socializing, or so it would seem. He occasionally checks his agent which is held tightly in his left hand, but otherwise is making the rounds as though he's a big ticket item. For all Fixer knows, he is.

A response finally ticks up on the agent's screen. 5m is all it says, but the agent automatically offers Vegas the options to start a timer, set an alarm, or respond with a canned, predetermined message or a custom message.

Back at the bar, Casino waits patiently for only a few moments before the door swings open and a tall woman with darker, mediterranean coloring opens and steps through the office door. She wears a zoot suit herself, rich purple with white stripes and a fedora that matches with a white, silk band about the cap. Her curly black hair is loose about her shoulders and dangles to just above the SmartFabric® hanky currently alternating through a complementary array of colors to that of her suit. "Mr. Casino," she smiles brilliantly and places her finely manicured hands on the bartop as she reaches him. "It's a pleasure to see you again. What can I do for you?"

Horn sounding, the train jumps forward and begins to accelerate. The raucous is nearly enough to drown out the sound of gunfire as more shots are taken at the Hellhound. Ghlahn and Echo, casting glances back at the enemy, see sparks fly from the ceiling just a few meters behind them as the errant rounds find purchase.

Pain subsiding a bit, Blossom tucks her head down and continues to rely a bit on Bloodbank's strength to help her along. Just a little longer and she knows she'll be able to push through any remaining pain, but for the time being, she's dependent.

Once again, the reticle comes into focus in M'harú Ghlahn's eye and settles red on the chest of the sec-team member behind the fallen headshot. The weapon recoils from the shot, but Ghlahn's wrist strength keeps it steady. Whether from luck, or an awareness of something coming his way, the sec-team member shifts just enough to avoid being shot by the deadly solo. Milliseconds later the hellhound construct lunges forward and slashes across the left thigh of the same team member. Cloth remnants fly, and the man twists slightly, but otherwise retains his footing.

Pulling himself back to one leg, the sec-team agent Ghlahn had shot in the thigh levels his SMG at the hellhound and pounds its body with lead followed almost immediately by another volley of rounds from his team mate. The flaming construct shrugs through the damage without experiencing pain.

"Keep moving," Ghlahn commands. "I'll keep them busy and clear our six."

Bloodbank, Echo, and Blossom comply without argument. Whether they agree with shooting security team members or not, the actions Blossom and Ghlahn have taken worked. The team that was immediately following them has been stopped.

"You need to rethink your place in the pecking order, tonto." Words barely spoken above the song being delivered by the hologram on stage drifted over Vegas' shoulder.

A broad smile presents itself as Vegas' initial response, followed by both of his arms slowly stretching away from his body in a non-threatening manner, the palms of his hands facing outwards as his arms slowly rise upwards. The words to what the sculpted solo hoped would be a song to defuse the situation rolls easily from his lips. The performance is average; not something that Vegas would necessarily consider his best, but it most certainly would have entertained a crowd.

"When you're smilin', when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you
When you're laughin', when you're laughin'
The sun comes shinin' through,"

"Seguir cantando niño bonito," The gang-banger sniffed. He folds his arms across his chest with a slow, heavily articulated movement.

"But when you're cryin', you bring on the rain
So stop your sighin', be happy again,"

"We'll be waiting outside for you, hombre," the slightly smaller man sneers.

"Keep on smilin', 'cause when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you,"

"Veremos cuánto tiempo se mantiene el canto." Tossing his head upwards in a sharp nod, an exaggerated frown on his slim face, the Grease Monkey spreads his arms wide away from his body and backs away with his right shoulder dipped a little and a slight posturing to his step.

"When you're smilin', when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you
When you're laughin', when you're laughin'
That sun comes shinin' through,"
Turning abruptly at four steps, the tattooed gang member strides towards the door. It's at this point that Fixer and Casino both notice the end of the exchange; at least the Grease Monkey walking away towards the door. Fixer can follow the progress made by the ganger without much effort, but Casino would need to turn completely in the booth and look over his shoulder in order to do so.

"But when you're cryin', you bring on the rain
So stop your sighin', be happy again
Keep on smilin', 'cause when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you."

Vegas finishes the song momentarily triumphant in having avoided conflict within the confines of his favorite joint. But what lies in wait outside is another matter.

We're really cooking with peanut oil now! The 2nd combat phase has ended. Time for the 3rd Combat Phases' actions to be written. Here's the placement of everyone in combat on the MAP. You've got two healthy, uninjured sec-team members, one wounded and conscious, and one wounded or dead and unconscious that are pretty well preoccupied with the hellhound--at least as far as you can tell since they haven't lobbed any rounds your way since the first shots at Ghlahn's back.

It looks like you boys at the Rat Pack might have a little trouble of your own brewing. Fixer and Casino have yet to notice the going-on between Vegas and the greaser. You both failed your Awareness/Notice checks pretty abysmally. Unless things erupt, you'll probably want to post your reactions to Vegas leaving you sitting at the table without any further acknowledgement, or settlement, of the plan.

Hammer, looking forward to seeing how you handle this. You are very familiar with the Rat Pack's policy on trouble.

"Look Vegas," Casino attempts to emphasize his position. "I never said we hook up at the school. Hell, by the time the grens and taser get here, they should be done with that. After we are all back together as a group, then we can think about tracking Dauntless down for some more information. For all we know they got the info we need and we are missing out on the pay day. So, again I say better odds in numbers."

Vegas doesn't even acknowledge his partner's concern. He peers down at his drink for a moment before releasing it with a slight push away from him causing the glass tumbler to slide forward half an inch on the table. Rising abruptly, he reaches into his suit breast pocket and retrieves his agent as he rises from the table. Casino and Fixer look on as the suited solo removes himself from the table without any further comments and proceeds to stroll around the edge of the dance floor.

The agent's screen showed a frustrating lack of information from Starlight. A quick flick of his finger causes a Net connection box to open from the bottom left corner. The link to the site accessed, Vegas thumbs through the navigation until he achieves the messaging center. It is impossible for the agent to pick up his voice commands over the volume of music the club-goers are reveling in. Everything needs to be manually accessed. The message sent to Starlight is succinct.

ETA?

"You need to rethink your place in the pecking order, tonto." Words barely spoken above the song being delivered by the hologram on stage drifted over Vegas' shoulder.

Calm permeates the solo's chest. Synthetically created baby blues jump quickly from the agent's screen to the previously known positions of the club's visible sec-team. While the bouncers had taken notice of the interaction there has been no need for them to intercede and they are already in positions that allow quick and effective action should they need to take it.

Vegas turns with an exaggerated ponderance and looks slightly down at the face of one of the greasers. A flick of his eyes towards the table they had all been located at reveals that the group of them have vacated and are nowhere to be seen. Returning his gaze to the man confronting him, Vegas evaluates him.
(OOC: Check your PM, Hammer.)

At the table, Casino and Fixer are both lost in their own thoughts and miss the interaction.

(OOC: Both of you have failed your Awareness/Notice checks.)

"Sixty meters and I might need that bag back, Echo!" Blossom called out as she turns from transferring her bag of tricks to the nomad. "Don't be too far behind."

Echo stares after the Hellhound for a moment. Turning away from the combat erupting back the way they came, the leather-clad young woman answers.

"Don't worry, chicka, I'm on your six", Echo declares, using a term of endearment for the netrunner that hadn't left her lips since she was around her clan. With the netrunner's heavy weighty bag over her left shoulder, the nomad shifts and rolls her right shoulder allowing her H&K MP2020 submachine gun to fall free from the concealment of her mottled duster and into her right hand in one synchronous move.

With another quick glance at the imposing Security Force standing beside the train that they had rode in on, Bloodbank turns back to Blossom--who is just about to hop off the platform and onto the tracks. Moving to follow her, the image of the train bound to leave the station in their direction at any moment comes unbidden to mind.

"Wait!" he calls out, realizing the potential error he reaches out to stop the wardriver from the possibly fatal error of dropping from the walkway onto the tracks. "The train. It'll be coming this way."

Having already moved near the edge of the walkway, Blossom winces a little and immediately corrects her trajectory while allowing the medtech to cradle her in his right arm and support some of her weight. The two move at a half-jog, half-run further down the tunnel.

Semi-automatic gunfire erupted once again, echoing through the tunnel just as the train's horn blows uniting into a blaring, roaring scream and drowning out the quieter sound of the impacting rounds into the metal body of the Hellhound construct.

Ghlahn--moving quickly after his companions--twists his body and fires his second round towards the security team. NuCybe enhancements immediately focus his eye reticle on the sec-team leader and through the cybernetic link with his brain and nervous system, bring his smartgun in line with the target. The trigger pulls easily under his trained reflexes and the weapon recoils as the armor-piercing incendiary round leaves the barrel. The next moment in time is caught in the solo's mind as the team leader's head is thrown back from the impact. The bullet penetrates the helmet's facemask and drives itself into the man's forehead. Green chemical fire shoots backward out of the wound and immediately cauterizes and fries the injury. But the damage is done. The team lead falls backward, carried by the momentum of the impacting bullet, and into the body of his team mate fouling up the man's potential for retaliation while forcing him to catch the officer.

Behind the Hellhound lashes out at the other lead sec-team member, but the man arches his back enough to avoid the metal claws and levels his submachine gun at the beast, firing off a three-round burst that sends rounds into the chest of the construct.

(End 2nd Combat Phase)

Having been shot in the leg, the fallen sec-team member fights through the pain and fires his weapon past his front positioned ally sending three rounds into the front, left haunch of the shimmering metal body. But the construct is still standing and the battle rages on.

We've actually only completed one full combat phase since the drop from the train and started the second. The 3rd member of the sec-team has been the only one to use an action this phase. The order of action is...

1. Sec-Team 3 (already taken)
2. Blossom
3. Sec-Team Leader
4. Ghlahn
5. Hellhound
6. Sec-Team 1
7. Sec-Team 2
8. Bloodbank
9. Echo

As far as stopping Blossom from dropping into the tracks, Bloodbank's first words could happen right about the time she's limping to the tracks.

So... I was on another road trip and missed the July 4th update. I figured it wasn't a big deal due to it being a U.S. Holiday, but if it bothered anyone... stop yer whining, princess. Just kidding. Sorry if it bothered you.

Ayrn, to answer your question look at the MOVE score on Blossom and then count out the squares remaining on the MAP to get your combat phases left until you reach the door.

I'll try and get an updated post in play today or tomorrow. Any word from Keeper of Dragons? By the way, Ayrn; that OOC comment made me actually chuckle out loud.

Games of this kind only die when players write themselves into a corner. There's a ship of 60+ people with any number of potential discoveries, side plots, interactions with NPCs, intrigue, relationship-building, and small plot twists available. Think outside of the box and write back-stories, write interactions that took place between characters of non-player status that don't need input from a major player. Write engagements with these NPCs amongst the players who are still able to post and don't worry about the Time-Space Continuum. Do a little exploration. That's how you keep the game alive.

"Way I see it," Vegas casually informs his companions. "We can either make our way on down to Frizzoli's, canvas the streets for some other sign of Dauntless Dog, or cut our losses and try to reconnect with the others as soon as we pick up our wares from Starlight. What do you blokes think?"

"You, Mr Vegas," Fixer speaks up, "are good with these people. I, however, prefer machines; they are much more predictable. An input produces an expected outcome. This means that I will leave it to more capable minds to conclude our next course of action." Fixer pauses before continuing, "It may have been pleasing—though—to have seen them defy the odds of this place and get flatlined by the security here."

"Well Fixer," Vegas leans over his drink with a sly grin, "I would rather wait here for the delivery from Starlight so Casino has his grenades and I have the taser, before we head on down to Frizzoli's and hunt us some Dauntless Dog while the night is still young!"

Casino remains quiet as both look to him for input. Then, reluctantly, "I think after we get the gear from Starlight, we hook back up with the rest. I'm not fond of just the three of us heading into Dog's possible area of control. No offense Fixer, but like you said, you're good with tech, not gunplay. That could be a serious handicap if we walk into a firefight."

"So," Vegas acknowledges his partner's contribution by continuing the discussion. "After Dauntless Dog, or rejoin the rest of the group. We could see where the rest of us are at after the delivery. If they've already made it past the checkpoints, then we may as well check on the gang down here."

"I got a bad feeling about that school," Vegas continues, sipping his drink and staring at Casino, "Better to deal with the devil that we know in regards to Dauntless Dog than the devil we don't by trying to lug our hardware and grenades to the school and trying to pass the security checks in High City."

The announcer let's everyone know that the singers are going to take a short break before the recorded sounds of the real Frank Sinatra start playing and a hologram image of one of his many great performances is projected on the stage.

With minutes still to kill before Starlight could possibly show up, the decision still hangs in the air. Pursue Dauntless Dog, or attempt to reconnect with the rest of the team? The rest of the club's patrons are quietly enjoying drinks, bar fare, or dancing without sign of any potential repercussions from Vegas' cutting in, or the potential scrape with Dauntless Dog and his cronies appearing to develop.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Echo looks back and sees Bloodbank helping Blossom, and runs back to them.

"Damn, we gotta get you outta here, girl! Give me your bag, it's slowing you down."

"Give me a sec," Blossom grunts. Pulling the satchel of nanodust off her shoulder, she dumps out about five kilos of the powder and pulls out one of her mindcores. "Want to leave these guys a present,"

Programming the core quickly, she brings Hellhound online and released the mindcore into the dust. "That should distract them for a bit,"

The nanodust swirls about the mindcore even before it reaches the pile Blossom has hastily dropped to the walkway. The smoky, cloudy mass quickly takes shape revealing a black metal wolf with glowing white eyes that stands approximately to Blossom's exposed midriff. The metal surface of the construct immediately begins to shimmer in metallic waves of reddish fire rippling across the body. With a deep, grating, rumbling voice the creature growls, "Security Team." and rushes towards the gate and the black-clad soldiers behind it.

While Blossum works her technological magic, Ghlahn rips his Colt AMT from the holster at his side and turns to quickly fire a single shot back down the tunnel. The targeting scope in Ghlahn's eyes centers on the mass of the sec-team agent who had been working the gate controls and detailed information about the distance between them displays beneath the reticle. The man at the end of Ghlahn's barrel rises from his crouch at the gate just in time to catch the bullet in his right thigh, penetrating the armor of his uniform and sparking a brilliant flash of blue as the incendiary round ignites. The impact tears the man's leg out from underneath him and he falls forward into the gate, effectively swinging it open with the momentum of his body.

Blossom readily hands the satchel to Echo and proceeds towards the tracks intent on dropping down off the walkway.

"Go, Bloodbank," Echo accepts the heavy bag and slings it over her shoulder with some effort. The bag she's already carrying, plus this one, means that she's carrying over half her own body weight; something that will definitely slow her down. "Get her gone!"

(OOC: This ends the first Combat Phase and begins the second.)

Events at the gate are escalating quickly. One of the sec-team has spent the last few seconds unlocking the gate that you were all unsuccessful at opening while the other three stood ready to move through it and one fired down the tunnel at you. Now, the gate has been breached by the falling forward of the injured security personnel and the team is pouring through with the lead stepping past his fallen comrade and one of the second row moving forward shoulder-to-shoulder, submachine guns level hunched to allow their remaining companion to tend to the wounded. The vision of the Hellhound construct rushing them has done the job Blossom had set it to do—the team is distracted from firing on the group of you and instead, focused on taking out the more immediate threat.

The burst of submachine gun fire resounds through the tunnel once more drowning out the cacophony of panicked civilians on the platform and the Hellhound jerks under the impact of the three round burst slamming into its shoulders and chest, but it doesn't slow it down at all.

Subject: So sorry for the delayed answers.

I apologize for the delayed answers and hope that it didn't cause a delay in your posting. I was in the mountains and had no Internet access for a couple of days while camping.

Keeper, remember that your character isn't yelling out to the others and if you so desire Ghlahn to shoot into the public (which from how the character has been played in the past, I wouldn't put past him), that's your call.

Ayrn, looks like you made a decision to go with the Hellhound. I believe that the nanodust is a typo, by the way. Good catch. We'll have to fix that.

As I understand the events happening for the remainder of this combat phase:

1. Blossom is unleashing a Hellhound on the sec-team.
2. Ghlahn is firing back at the sec-team and proceeding towards the group's plan of escape.
3. Bloodbank is helping Blossom along (which means pausing while she unleashes the Hellhound).
4. Echo has put herself between the sec-team and Blossom and Bloodbank, but has yet to fire back.

Meanwhile, at the Rat Pack...

1. Vegas is still pushing for pursuing Dauntless Dog after retrieving the items from Starlight, and then taking what information you find there to reunite with the others.
2. Casino is arguing caution and avoiding pursuit of Dauntless Dog to just reunite the group.
3. Fixer is remaining neutral on the decision-making process and going along for the ride.

If I've misinterpreted anything, let me know and I'll revise my post. Otherwise, we'll proceed as outlined finishing the first Combat Phase. For the second Combat Phase, I've rolled initiatives for the High City group and the order of action is...

1st - Sec-Team #3
2nd - Blossom
3rd - Sec-Team Leader
4th - Ghlahn
5th - Sec-Team #1
6th - Sec-Team #2
7th - Bloodbank
8th - Echo (sorry, Aletheia, but that was a critical fail on your initiative roll).

I've left the post off with the Sec-Team #3 having fired on the Hellhound. Feel free to write what you're going to do in your post for the next 3-seconds. If we have to adjust due to actions, or combat results, we'll do so.

Good luck, meatbags!

P.S. - I had some time to draw while on my camping trip. So, I drew Casino. I try to draw each of the characters for the games I'm running at some point in the game, so we'll see who is next.

Subject: Tunnel Situation

Your characters are in a maintenance tunnel on a walkway that is barely wide enough for two people in extremely close proximity to traverse side-by-side. There is an iron bar gate between you and the platform upon which the populace of High City are scrambling away from the gunfire being sent your way. The sec-team are on the public side of the gate—though not for long as they have access codes—and have fired a three-round volley your way through the gate. That shot may, or may not have been, a warning shot while they are yelling at you to surrender through a megaphone. After all, it would be reasonable to think (especially for Ghlahn) that shooting you fleeing Edgerunners in the back at this point would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Keep in mind that the RUN and SPRINT stats on your character sheet is in meters.

Here's the map showing your positions and the end goal for Combat Phase 1: MAP

And here's a technical description of the situation:

The train car is 4.57 meters in height plus the additional meter for the wheels minus the height of the 1.5 meters for the distance of the walkway over the tracks which means that the top of the train car to the walkway is roughly 4 meters. The access door that you are all trying to get to will be discovered 100 meters down the tunnel. The door will likely be locked and require a keycard and bioscanner access to open (you'll need to wardrive again, or otherwise by-pass security). Remember that a combat phase is 3 seconds and with Blossom's current state, RUN is the best you folks can do.
