Subject: It's easy peasy.

Boo Boo, Tann is right. It's really rather simple. I'll handle the rules, you play the character. If people are more familiar with the game they can request die rolls and skill checks, or use the RDINN dice roller to email me their rolls, but regular people--those who aren't burdened by a full knowledge of the ins and outs of this game--are just fine focusing on role-playing.

For those of you who are interested in making your characters I've a few links that might tickle your fancy.

My CyberPunk Character Sheet (XLSX format)

CyberPunk Reference Book

CyberPunk 2020 Sourcebook

CyberPunk Gear List

Chromebook 2

Chromebook 3

Chromebook 4

Solo of Fortune 1

Solo of Fortune 2

The Killing Arts - Martial Arts

Rache Bartmoss' Guide to the Net

CyberPunk v.3 (Use this rulebook for character creation)

1. Roll 13 d10, total the results and add 15. That's your Character Points, used to generate your stats, Perks & Talents, and Skills.

2. You need an actual first name and surname, but a Handle is optional.

3. Roll 10d10 and multiply it by 100. That's your starting cash to outfit your character including cyberware.

By the way, purchasing skills costs a pretty penny in Character Points. There's the following scale:

1 = 1
2 = 3
3= 6
4 = 10
5 = 15
6 = 21
7 = 28
8 = 36
9 = 45
10 = 55

You all start with a Reputation of 2 and a Creative Currency of 10. Creative Currency is a way for you to alter die rolls, adjust your circumstances, etc. for the sake of storyline development.

Let me know if you folks need any help.

Solo or Nomad (Hired Gun) - Tann
Solo or Nomad (Hired Gun) -
Netrunner - Ayrn
Medtech -
Techie -

Giddy, Chessicfayth, and anyone else who is interested, let me know which role you'd like to take. And thanks, Ayrn, for answering questions in my absence. I appreciate it.

Topic: Cyberpunk - Flesh & Blood Recruitment
Subject: Well, shucks...

Thank you gentlemen for your vote of confidence, and everyone else for your interest.

So, here's the skinny...

Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk would be a mix of the 2020 concept and the Dark FUZION version; which is to say that I'd mix and match elements from each version that I like. The adventure premise would be as follows:

A wealthy corporate executive's daughter has been kidnapped. He has reason not to trust the usual resources for dealing with such a case (Corporate Intelligence Division, Law Enforcement, Personal Security, etc.) and is all too aware that big money buys loyalty in this day and age. He's turned to the Edgerunners of Night City to retrieve his daughter... and take revenge upon those who would try to do his family harm.

Your characters will be contracted through a third-party fixer. The fixer is looking for some hired guns (muscle), a netrunner, a medtech, and possibly a techie.

--------------------------------------------------------

The Reality Bites System is designed to get rid of all of the elements of the various game systems I've played that I don't like and make combat a very serious and very dangerous solution to a problem. It focuses heavily on character play/development, skill use, and quick and bloody deaths to those who take unnecessary risks. Think of it this way: You may have a tricked out character with ramped up skills and high stats, but one wrong move—one misstep in combat, and your life is over. There are no Hit Points. If you wear armor, it is designed to stop things from getting to your meaty, squishy parts, but there's a price you're paying for that protection. If you get injured, you may die from shock before you bleed to death. This is not for your hack-'n-slash lovers. There's no classes, so to speak, but rather (just like in real life) you fill roles based on how you develop your skills.

Audalis

You belong to a tribe of Chindari plains-people called a Shakri. Your Shakri has a traditional migration path that keeps them close to the coast, and this time of year finds you by the Swamps of Kedesh. While great for hunting and providing opportunity to gather herbs and roots otherwise unavailable any other time of year, it is also very dangerous. You never know what lurks in those swamps...

Modern Supernatural Fantasy

New Orleans, LA is a place of diversity and culture. It's a different world than most everywhere else in the States—A constant party. Or so it seems.

There's a dark world living just in the peripheral. Shadows hold secrets, locals are feeling uneasy, and strange sightings have been reported.

Your characters each come from a different walk of life: a Private Investigator, an Investigative Reporter, a retired Marine School Teacher (mid-thirties), and a street kid who's fallen in with some really bad elements. You don't know why, but the mysteriousness of the Shadows are singling you out. Your lives are about to be completely turned upside down and the fate of thousands may rest on your shoulders.

--------------------------------------------------------

And those are the concepts that just popped into my head as I was asked to run a game.

Well, folks! Let's see what happens.

I am considering the possibility of running a game. I'm thinking about either a Cyberpunk, a Reality Bites System game set in Audalis (my own game system), or a Reality Bites System game set in a modern supernatural fantasy setting from one of my book series that's currently in an editor's hands.

Are there any interested parties afoot? If so, what tickles your fancy?

I've always enjoyed playing in one of Olan's games. I've no qualms about dying either. As a matter-of-fact, I like writing death scenes.

Here's the problem: I've no memory of this place--er, I mean 2nd Edition. So, I've no idea how to role up a character anymore.

Can I gets help, Olan? My wife sold all of my gaming books and such.

I think you should have an individual game thread for each character, and another for the Kodiak! Interactions should be posted to each character's thread and people need to puzzle the whole thing together by going to the main thread. Then, when all is said and done, you could develop a Choose Your Own Adventure model from the mix.

Bulgarus' blood pumps savagely in through his body filling it with a fire and a hunger for the combat he'd so long sought. He hops on the balls of his feet, oblivious to those surrounding him on the platform. They are mere obstacles and tools to his pending glory and matter not to the half-orc for he had at last achieved his goal of fighting in the Arena!

Sunlight threatened to strip his vision from him as the platform lifted from the confined and dirty tunnels of the stalls below and revealed the mighty Bulgarus the Bold into presentation before the masses. Their cheers ring in his helm a cacophony of jubilation that spurred him to lift his beefy arms above his head and bellow loudly. He taunts the crowd into further fervor and completely misses the butchering of his name. He is elated and the adrenaline is pumping.

When the bear is revealed, Bulgarus hammers the handle of his great flail against his shield and bellows a reply to the creature's roar.

"Now then Menfolk," the lilting voice of the elf barely penetrates his helm. "We advance together, yes?"

"Advance!" Bulgarus roared hefting his shield before him and beginning the slow rotation of the deadly ball and chain. "Yes! Advance!"

OOC:

Attack
Basic 1-9
Hard 10-12

Defence
Shield Block 1-9
Dodge 10-12

Bulgarus will advance straight up column 8 until he's flanking the bear, and then he'll advance in along that row.

Subject: All righty then!

Here goes!

Half-orc male
Name: Bulgarus the Bold
Weapon:Heavy Flail
Armor: Full helm styled to look like a grimacing boar with a shock red boar's hair comb on top, gold-colored plate armor with muscle designed into its appearance, blood red chain beneath, and a red cloak. Round medium-sized shield emblazoned with a heraldric red boar on a black field (Heavy, of course).

Bulgarus grew up a street rat with no future in sight. He was, however, good in a fight. So, when the opportunity presented itself he attacked a local merchant's portage group with the intent to get their attention. He's not very bright, this Bulgarus, and he ended up killing one of the guards. The bold move landed him in a mining pit, not the Gladiatorial Arena as he had hoped.

Sticking with the same failed strategy, he attacked some of the guards in the mine. Again, he killed one of them. He was severely punished and ended up being moved to a salt mine.

Still determined to make it to the Gladiatorial Arena, Bulgarus decided to stick with his winning strategy and attacked yet another set of guards. This time, he lucked out. He accidentally broke the leg of a scaffold platform in the fight and the heavy stores of salt waiting transport off the platform crushed all of the guards.

Confused by his predicament, Bulgarus left the mine and headed straight for the capital. His intent was to plead his case to the Emperor, but when he arrived, he'd found that the old man had died.

Left with no other choice, Bulgarus sought audience with the new Cat Emperor. When denied, he attacked the guards. And... he was finally thrown into the Gladiatorial Arena.

I don't want to jump any guns, but I believe that not only can we have a Revival here at the Inn, but I believe we can take it to heights never before achieved.

We'll see what comes of this, but rest assured that we, as staff (including Olan), aren't giving up just yet.

Topic: The Death of the Inn?
Subject: Hmmm...

I have to admit that I didn't see this coming. True, I've been as guilty as anyone of not being active, but I always knew that the Inn was there and that was a comfort.

Olan, I can see why you're feeling the way that you are, and the challenges of being a webmaster alone are often enough to take the wind out of one's sails. I shut down all of my websites a few months ago because of that very thing. I'll support you in whatever you wish to do, as always. However, I'd like to put this out there...

I've recently been thinking that the site could do with a Revival, and I've a number of ideas to discuss with you in that regards if you're so inclined. I've very little free time on my hands, but I believe that we could make it work without a ton of effort, and we've seen lulls in activity before—maybe not this bad, but all the same, the Inn has recovered.

I've had a divorce, been remarried, have had multiple challenges with blending a family and children going ape, enrolled in school seeking a degree, and become an executive officer in a company just in the past six years. My new wife makes fun of gaming, but she's supportive of me and my interests. In short, I know that I can't devote a ton of time to things right now, but I'm certainly interested in doing what I can as time permits.

"Shuh Muh?" Asher's timid question hangs in the air.

Slowly spinning his chopsticks a quarter deep in his noodles, Wyatt uses the methodical action to consider what the Colonel has revealed. He has no interest in getting involved in a local turf war—even less on this mudball. However, the thought of ruining a Purple Belly's day is tickling his fancy. Of course, he can't let her know that he's even thinking along those lines, and he severely doubts that she's going to just let off her interest in them even after their pleasantries. That means that he needs to play it ku. There's just one problem with that. She mentioned ghosts.

Lifting a slightly too large ball of tangled noodles from his white, ceramic bowl Captain Sung shakes the broth from the dangling ends. Ghosts are bad luck no matter how you look at it. If you're a little more inclined to the cynical, but still a bit twitchy—like Sam—the mention of ghosts means nothing more than some shady se duhng snatching the unwary for whatever nefarious purposes as holds their black little hearts. Sung, being less inclined to the cynical and more inclined to the superstitious, just plain doesn't like the concept of ghosts of any kind.

"An' what's yer take on this kind o' talk, Colonel?" Wyatt looks at her from beneath his raised brow and places the noodles in his mouth finishing the stragglers off with a quick slurp. The fact that his question momentarily diverts the conversation from the Alliance Officer's request to keep her informed of Morningstar's activities is nothing more than an added perk. Wyatt Sung really wants some clarification into whether or not there are undead spirits haunting Serenity Valley.

Idly picking up her napkin and laying across her lap, Willow asked casually," What's the Alliance's interest in visitors to Morningstar? You weren't briefed by Saunders, I take it."

Colonel Wu did not smile or change her expression. "Briefed? No I was not briefed nor would I expect to be. Saunders is a federal Marshall and there is a long history of miscommunication between military and Marshalls. WE enforce the law for the people, Marshals chase the people that refused to be enforced." She said plainly and leaned back. "However, when a lone tramp freighter appears out of the blue to rescues passengers from a liner that no one knew was going to be taken, and then said crew fights off the most vicious and ruthless set of mercenaries in the verse with minimal casualties - I start to wonder. Then said crew decide to honour the dead by coming here and gets permission to bury someone in the valley - well that seems to be a bit much."

The doors opened to the room and waiters brought in bowls and began to serve duck soup with thin wonton noodles to everyone. Tea was served and they filled the centre table with Har gau, Chiu-chao fan guo and Siu mai. Wu did not speak while the servers were in the room but as soon as they left, she waved her hand to say that you should go ahead as she sipped her tea. "What I think is you are working with the federal Marshals on a covert mission. I would like to know what that mission is as I have worked very hard to gather what information I have on Mr. Morningstar and I will not have it Ni tama de tianxia suoyou de ren duo gaisi." She stabbed a Siu mai with her chopsticks harshly and popped it into her mouth while waiting for your response.

Asher looked up over the food that had been placed before him and into Colonel Wu's dark smoldering eyes. In his low boyish drowl he said, "Ma'am,..When a distress call comes out of the black, you answer it. It's never a bit much,,..When a bunch frightened people look to you as their only hope, it's never a bit much,,When someone takes a bullet to save you, honor is never a bit much,,. I'm sorry someone broke your trust, but it weren't us,.. Ma'am." The kid waited to see if Wyatt and Willow were going eat before he started, he was ready to leave.

Offense was something that could be taken by the foolish man at the shifting of a shadow. Wyatt likes to think of himself as a little wiser than some, so the tone and accusations did nothing to stir his ire. This is a game of political posturing for the time being, and Wyatt knows that if they play their hand correctly it will remain as much.

"I honestly appreciate the compliment, Colonel," Sung declared with a wry smile as he hung his hat from his knee and shifted the position of his chair so that it afforded him easy access to open floor should he need it. "T' think tha' the crew o' a lone tramp freighter could be conscripted by the Marshals t' work on somethin' complex an' cantankerous, well, tha's jus' made my day.

"Tha' which was done fer the boatload o' high-'n-mighties was jus' what occurs in the Black. We was due fer some luck, an' the ‘Verse paid us out in dividen's. Them tha' was rescued weren't rescued solely on the backs o' me an' mine, I assure you. No. No matter how pretty we are, an' no matter how much the ‘Verse dished heapin' amounts of luck on us tha' day, Colonel, it all boils down t' the timely arrival o' the Marshals fer us livin' t' tell the tale.

"Now, we've had plenty o' trouble t' last a lifetime, an' ain't lookin' t' stir nothin' up; as I said. So, we've been straight with ya from the onset, but I'll repeat our position jus' so as we're clear.

"Our job ain't nothin' more than a courtesy t' an old war dog who won my respect an' my help when he saved my skin durin' the very firefight tha' took his life. Well, that an' t' enjoy some o' these fine noodles. Thanks t' you."
