Subject: Advancement points

Everyone earns 6 advancement points at the end of the campaign. These 6 points you can use for new skills, or higher specializations. You must put 2 pts in as a time to raise a skill. for example if you are d10 in pistols and you want to advance, you put 2 in for d12 or 4 in for d12+d2.

As well, if you look over your character and something does not jive with how you preceive him/her - now is the time to change. This is a one time offer to adjust the character.

As soon as Tann and Vanadia post, i will be doing a very long ending post and getting set up for the next campaign with the two new crew.

Celeste will be playing Tess, the new pilot.

Loki is playing John, a good generalist. Bith characters are posted in the character sections.

Eol will be coming back as a Buddaist monk, hired by a group of farmers to assist with your next cargo.

Subject: Expenses

You started this adventure long ago with a full tank of hydrogen and 120 credits in savings.

You received 1000 credits for the shipment of Ice
You received 500 credits for saving the banks
Willow did some fine bartering work and got you 170 credits for the rum and chocolate
You got 800 for the passengers there and back to Newhouse
Income: 2470 credits

You paid 480 for repairs to Ship/Boat
50 for port fees
50 for the septic flush and fresh water
3 for new hat
50 for new ballistic vest
Basic kitchen reload (think: passengers) 200
Ammo restock - 17

Expenses: 850

So you are sitting pretty with: 1740 credits

You were suppose to get 3000 credits for the second Ice delivery but you never picked it up and besides, Brigit never expected to pay you anyway.

Future Expense - Fuel refill for Roc - 600
Proper Maintenance - 480
Replace the Aft Alternator and the Inertial Dampner - 400
Total: 1480 credits

So in the end you have ... 260. Yeah, you did make a profit. Tramp Freighter is such a glamourous life. Oh, BTW - The Kid and Wolf will need new ballistic vests as well.

and I have! There you go. The end of the ring and the return of the king.

Or something like that....

Once everyone posts there reaction to the events as they unfolded, I will be wrapping up this campaign with a post with more endings that the Lord of Rings. Then we can start looking at upping your characters, fixing them up as you see fit and getting started on the next, assuming I have everyone on board still.

This was a long long game, over at least two years I believe and I loved every moment except where we lost a few players on the way.

Hornsilver Mine - Old Shaft, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 12:50 am Planet Time

Rocks were falling down the drift and the dust was beginning to swirl up like a wind storm in the desert. Wolf and Asher were both tired, wounded, and past the point of where the average person would have hung up their hats and gave in to death. But the words of the Captain, terse, strong and confident flooded through them like an energy and giving them the will to move on. They ran for the ladders, Asher making sure that Wolf was on first and heading up. He followed behind not thinking of what would happen if the big mechanic let go.

Whoever built this old shaft knew how to properly set a rigging into stone, because the ladders held firm. The two men looked up to the night sky above and concentrated on one rung at a time, as fast as they could but one rung at a time.

"Help me with Sam, please, Captain-san?" Willow asked.

“Wake her,” Wyatt crouched and gave Sam a slightly rough pat on the cheek causing the pilot’s eyes to flutter open. “Ya’all better come with me if’n ya want t’ live.”

Sam moaned, tried to wince, caught his breath in pain and blinked through the haze that was blocking his vision as he grasped his friend’s outstretched hand and was pulled to his feet.

“There’s a shaft out there that we’ll have t’ climb outta, and double time at that.” Wyatt briefly gave directions on how to reach the shaft before turning to the red-head Willow had just woken with her using an injection through her hypo-spray. Bending down, he looked her square in the eyes, She looked to be suffering and her eyes were jumping, but Wyatt didn’t know if that was fear or whatever Willow had given her – and he didn’t much care.

“Willow,” Wyatt said without removing his gaze from Brigit’s. “Go help Sam git topside as though yer skirts were on fire.” Once that order was given it was obvious the next bit was for Brigit as his tone took on an edge cold enough to rival the Dark. “Move wrong, and mine is the last pretty face you’ll ever see. Now git up, cause the world is about to fall in.”

Sam moved with an alacrity borne from fear and the need to survive. He ignored the pain in his face and practically carried Willow to the ladders and out of the this so called treasure room. The dust was billowing now as more rocks crashed to the floor and it sounded like very nearby. Timbers split with a thunderous cracks and bangs so loud it sounded like explosives,

Willow found the ladder up the shaft which was merciful close to the hatchway, Sam following close behind. She could see the night sky way above and it seemed like a terribly long way up but she was determined not to falter.

Brigit meekly followed Wyatt’s directions and they came out into dust, thunder and a cacophony of rocks hit rocks. Wyatt found the ladder, not by sight but somehow he knew exactly where to go and started climbing behind Brigit as fast as he could. All hell was breaking loose underneath them as they climbed and climbed up the shaft.

A loud pop noise came and for a couple of seconds the sound of the collapse drift was quiet, then the last timber resisting its surge gave way and the ground shook like a earthquake. The dust billowed high, straight up the shaft coving the rungs and party with dirt and powdery dust.

Wolf looked up and the top of the shaft seemed so far still. The dust made it hard for him to hold on and
His chest burned with fire, He coughed and coughed, finding it hard to draw a breath. I’m not gonna make it he thought. It seemed to him that there were light above him now and he wonder if this was it – that he should just go into the light and accept his fate.

Then a harness on the end of a rope slapped him across the face. A safety harness?! Wolf snapped out of it and realized that ropes were being thrown down. He grabbed at the harness and it beeped as he did. The straps unbuckle and moved on their own around his chest and waist. Suddenly he was being pulled up. It hurt like all hell but he didn’t have to hold on anymore and slipped into unconsciousness.

Asher spied the harnesses coming down as well and yelled out to the people below him. Soon everyone was rapidly coming up through the dust cloud to the surface. Willow, Wyatt and Brigit were all hauled up to safety.

On the surface, there were many people. Miners were there with a safety rig that they used to save the crew, with many strong flood lights attached to illuminate the area. Bowman was there as well, first to make sure that everyone got out alright. Bailey was holding n to Wolf and calling for Doc McGuire who was coming in as fast as his old legs would let him.

Brigit was lying on the ground covering her eyes and holding her head like she was recovering from an all night drinking binge. She curses wicked as she bemoaned how bad her head felt. Dac McGuire looked at her and then over at Willow and smile, “Pantelline? Remind me never to cross you Miss Willow.”

The dust settled and the doctor was calling out to people, “Okay, I want these men,” he said pointing at Wolf, Sam and Asher, “Brought to my place now! Gently too so no rough riding.” The Doctor looked over to Willow, “You feel up to helping? I’m just an old country doctor.”

Bowman walked over to where Brigit was retching in the grass. “Good day Miss Brigit. We haven’t been introduced. The name is Andrew Bowman and I am the new sheriff in town. I am also a close friend and relative by marriage to Captain Wyatt Sung. I believe you and I will have a lot to talk about so let me just say, you are now bound by law,” Andrew leaned down and roughly grabbed her wrists to slap a pair of handcuffs on her, “and now you are bound up right pretty. Now stay right there or I will have them lights brought down to shine directly on you. Dohn ma?”

Wyatt looked on and let himself breathe. He had got them all out. They would all fly again.

Great posts from all, thank you. I will try to give Vanadia a chance to post this weekend so I can respond.

No one mentioned anything about using plot points... Wyatt has 4, Wolf has one, Ash has three and Willow has all six of hers intact. These can be used to assist in:

Climbing
Climbing fast
Climbing really fast
Climbing even faster than that
Carrying sleepy hot lady while climbing
Resist making fun of Sam for getting beat up by a girl

Chickens in a mineshaft!!! Guys, don't put John Ryan in charge of the ship, or shuttle or buying food.

Heck, I am sure the Wyatt Sung has gotten out of worse scraps that this in the war, with less supplies, less men and less time. I bet if Chuck Norris was in the situation, he'd call Wyatt.

Subject: Let me sum up

Wolf is mobile, he does not need carrying. He is at half life points right now. Like mal still fighting even though he had been stabbed badly. So he looks worse than he is. Sam is revivable with a stimulant or even smelling salts.

The options are as follow:

1) Panic and run around like chickens in a mine shaft

2) Get Willow, Sam and Brigit and get up the old shaft as fast as you can manage. Brigit will have to be carried or Doctor will have to hit her with a stim.

3) Everyone head down into secret room and wait it out, hoping like hell that someone comes to bury you out.

4) Half and half, shove the beaten and the sleepy into the secret room and the rest escape to get help to dig them out.

Your questions:
1. Try our luck dragging Wolf down the long, old shaft to the old elevator (the way we came down, right?), or...

The way Wolf and Ash came down. You took the new elevator and came down the drift.

- Which way is a shorter distance to move the big injured mechanic?

The Old shaft is right there so definitely the shortest route.

- Can Wyatt quickly ascertain the extent to which Fenris is injured, and just how soon he's going to need medical attention? Also, would it be quicker to get Fenris to Willow, or try to get him topside to the doc?

Willow is nearby and has her kit. Fenris, if he lets you examine him took three bullets but two were stopped by his ribcage and a third was a through and through without hitting an artery. He needs patching but you keep running and when you can't run, you crawl and when you can't crawl anymore ... well you know the rest.

For those of you who are new to the game, the player who created Asher was called Blammm. He left the linn when his wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour and I often think of him and how he is doing now. So the use of his ID for the gunfire was an homage to him. Odyson has done an excellent job of keeping the uniqueness of the character alive today.

The "slow motion" description of the combat was inspired by Sherlock Holmes 2, A Game of Shadows which I was watching the night before I wrote the post.

Celeste! Loki! Your chance to join the game is coming soon.

Things just got interesting...

You have maybe ten minutes before total collapse, based on how fast timbers are breaking as the roof gives way down the drift toward you.

Hornsilver Mine - In the Unstable Drift 1st level, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 12:42 am Planet Time

Captain Wyatt arrived at the side of Fenris and saw the wounds. Normally, three to the chest like this would mean death for any man, but the mechanic was moving and grabbing his weapon. The bullets had torn through the ballistic vest like it was cellophane but somehow the man kept a tight grip on life. Either way, Wolf was gonna need the doctor's tender mercies in a short time. Yet, as he reached his side, the big man used Wyatt's shoulder to pull himself up and fire a burst down the drift.

Lau Tsu knew that there was to be trouble soon. The men at the other side of drift had every reason to want Pearson as much as him, but they had guns and would use them. Patience was his guide, as he moved silently to one side of the sheriff and flicked a handful of powder at the man's face, then deliberately scuffed his foot to alert the sheriff of his presence. Pearson was partially blinded and in the dark. He pulled his pistol and pointed at where the Black dressed man was before, but the assassin was gone. Then there was a sound to his left, and some powder sprinkled on his face. He didn't play it no mind and fired two quick shots

Asher wasn't listening to Wyatt's command to get under cover. The opportunity to shoot was once only and he wasn't gonna miss it. his hand moved as a blur as he drew his cannon of a gun and opened fire with all skill and hopes behind every bullet. But just as he did, Pearson fired his gun and the end of the drift lit up again. Pearson's coat, hat and face were caught in the flash and he screamed in pain.

BLAMMM

The first bullet took Pearson in the shoulder and spin him around unwillingly towards Asher. At the moment, Pearson realized that he under-estimated this young man. He should have been paying more attention instead of dismissing him as a skirt chasing boy.

BLAMMM

The second bullet took him in the chest, and the sheriff started to fall backwards.

BLAMMM

The third bullet skinned by his face but not close enough to be anything other than a scar and a conversation piece.

BRAPPTATATATAT

Wolf's steadying himself on the captain helped him line up the double blurry images he saw in flames at the end of the drift. He knew he hit him, as Pearson jerked spasmodically and fell down to the ground.

A second passed, and only that, no more as the sheriff lay, but then the man jerked back up with inhuman-like will and this time with rifle in hand. The man was a menace with that rifle, and many a good men had died because of his speed, accuracy and deadliness.

But not today ...

BLAMMM
Asher focused on the burning embers on Luke's hat and aimed slightly lower, the first shot took off the Sheriff's ear painfully.

BLAMMM

The second through his throat and out the back.

BLAMMM

Final bullet in the cylinder and it hit through the cheek, shattering teeth, tongue and upper palate in all sort of painful manner. The Sheriff felt again. Asher dropped his empty weapon and without thinking drew another gun from his side holster. As he did, the ceiling above him groaned and the sound of timbers splintering came down the drift.

And Pearson stood up again like some killer robot in a B-grade holoflick. - alive by the sheer will to do nothing else but kill the kid before he shuffled off his mortal coil. But as soon as he got up, the groaning above gave way to loud crackling and the rocks above Sheriff Luke Pearson broke free of the support beams and fell down upon him with crushing force. After that blow, the sheriff rose no more.

The timbers one set closer to the Kid creaked and shattered. Echoing cracks and sounds like thunder moved down the drift like a vengeful ghost coming to steal the souls of the living.

Lau Tsu looked down the drift at Asher and shouted, "Fly you fools!" before vanishing down toward the newer drift and the working elevator. As he did more rocks fell into the drift around Pearson's body, cutting off that route to the party.

The mine was about to collapse - it was only a matter of time. The Timbers were all that was holding it up and they were breaking down. Rocks fell, and closer and closer to where the Captain, Wolf, and the Kid were standing.

Hornsilver Mine - Secret Room, Regina, Frisco, Day Nine 12:42 am Planet Time

"No, no need for that, Brigit...I'm not willin' to die over money. Just wanted a big score before my looks fade, that's all, " she snivelled," Hang on, the piece is in my bag. You know I'm right handed, you watched me close enough...let me reach in with my left and get it. Hard to believe it's still white, " she said," it should be red with all the blood it's spilled."

Brigit snatched the chess piece from Willow's hand and immediately looked at the bottom to check if it was the key. "She smiled a cold smile, "You know WIllow. I really never could get a bead on you. I thought you were smart. I thought you were the one to watch, but in the end you do something as dumb as this. You are weak and pathetic. A little pain and you cave in immediately. I really expect better from you." Brigit eyes shifted from Willow to the chess piece and back to Willow. Then she took a step back and looked at Willow's gloves.

"Son of a Bit...." She said as her eyes rolled into her head and she felt to the ground.

Willow only had a brief moment of victory to savour before gunfire could be heard from above and then a horrible sound of rocks falling and timber snapping.
