Subject: Dead men tell no tales

Corporal Gruber waited on his knees and thought of his training. Many years ago, he had stayed in this position for two weeks, before a training mannequin to learn this move. It was a deception based on fast reflexes and knowing your enemy.

”Your opponents are encumbered with many ideals that guide their actions. Use them to your advantage and they are as powerful as any weapon of technique.” The Training Commander had said walking before the decoys, “You are caught alone, facing superiorly armed and armoured enemies who are burdened with codes of honour, beliefs and morality. Challenge them! Don’t feed into their delusions with offers to surrender or lay down arms. Ask them to do what they can not possibly do – go against their own codes. Make them face that and they will hesitate, and …”

“Aye that I shall but first a question, what lies above us, what manner of creature do ye face on tis roof. Answer and you shall die quickly by my hand without pain, refuse and in your last moment’s pain will be all you will remember,” the gladiator asked

"Stay your hand, friend Maximus," the tin clad leader spoke.

"You know I am no stranger to bloodshed, but I cannot allow this. Were we executing this man for a crime, it would be one thing... but as far as we have seen, he has simply done his duty - he has followed the orders of his commander. I cannot let you murder him for this. No one wants to gain this tower more than I! And yet, if you do this, if I allow you to do this, what makes us different from those we oppose? No. Bind him. Let one of the mages render him senseless. But we will not murder a man who has offered his surrender."

They will start to monologue. No, they can’t do this that and the other thing. Yada, yada yada rights and deeds and you will have time to do this.

“He didn’t surrender, don’t make that mistake,” the young boy responded. “If he lives he will look to fight again. And it wouldn’t be murder…it would be justice. Any Green young enough to be serving has the blood of citizens on his hands. Take it from one who knows how the Emperor keeps his grip on the land.”

By the Gods, they are gonna talk me to death

Maximus moved to end the Green’s life with a swing of his vorpal blade. With sudden swiftness and flexibility, the Green bent himself backwards as the blade descended, dodging the blow. Then he sprang upwards as the gladiator tried to correct his swing. Using the base of his wrist extended upwards, the Green strikes Maximus directly at the base of the nose, The force from the blow sending bone fragments through the brain at a high velocity, killing him instantly.

Or so it would have been, had Dapple not been ready. The thief knew it was a trap – after all Greens do not surrender. It was almost their motto, like the Blues with their “We are the Shield”. Dapple didn’t know what the move would be, but she knew something would happen.

Her dagger left her hand quickly and accurately. As the wrist came up to strike, the blade sunk deep into the Imperial’s shoulder, causing him to move ever so much. He didn’t cry out, but the impact of the attack was diverted so Maximus wasn’t killed, but struck hard to the face. He staggered back, reeling for the blow, unable to keep his bearings from the intense pain and momentary blindness caused by the blow. He fell backwards down the stairs.

Then the lightening struck. A blue bolt of energy appeared out of nowhere, striking Dapple, and then arcing to Kilgim before hitting the stairwell. The green Imperial died with a scream of intense agony. Dapple took the full force of the blast and fell to the ground. Kilgim, spared the full energy and resilient as dwarves are, is standing still but definitely injured.

A pillar of flames erupts where Arien was standing. The heat from the pillar is intense, burning with a holy energy hot enough to melt the metal of armour and turn flesh to ash. But when the fire column is gone, Arien stands, unscathed by the flames if looking a bit mystified.

Two women appear in the doorway behind you. Both wear the red uniform of the Imperial magic corp, one has a holy symbol of a silver skull, long white hair and a intense look of anger upon face. The other has black hair, pale skin and dark eyes with a bewildered vacant expression. She is looking directly at Valentine then says, “Adrian? Is that you?”

“I said kill the mages! Now!” the white one cries out. Then both of them disappear again.

OOC:
Wounded
Arien: not a scratch - still
Char: Light Wounds
Maximus: Critical Wounds – Stunned and unable to parry
Jal: Taking notes (Say, that was a nice Lightning bolt)
Valentine: Arm is coming back – next round
Kilgim: Serious Wounds
Dapple: Critical Wounds –Stunned and unable to parry

Admiral – check your sheet if you want to know who the woman is, or ask me for details. Both Jal and Valentine recognize the dark eyes and pale skin as symptoms of a mage using their spells past their mana limits, therefore using up life force.

"Ain't it something', Sam, how it don't matter what piece I' dirt we settle on there're always low down, mangy rats that need exterminatin'?"

“Uh-huh,” Dash nodded, his hand moving deliberately to the butt of his own revolver and not hesitating in the least to slide the iron from its holster, “Gorram shame, too, as them rats don’t never seem ta get smart enough ta stop bringin’ knives ta gunfights.”

And if that ain't enough to draw their attention away from the old man and the girl, Wyatt'll say, "Hey! Ugly! Lay off or I'll break ya."

The three amigos stop shoving the old man around, letting him fall dizzily at their feet. They put hands on pistols, ready to defend against these … interfering types.

The man with the girl is clearly confused. People normal keep moving by them, not wanting to get themselves involved. But these two …

Moments pass like eternity between the ticks of a clock. “Mind your own business Stranger! Or you’ll find it cut off!” he snarls at you, seemingly unaware of the mixing of metaphors. He reaches for the girl, probably thinking to use her as a shield against Wyatt and Sam. As he reaches though, the girl kicks him. Not the kicks of a martial artist, or a street fighter taught to attack with deadly force. It is the high swift kick straight up of a dancer. She nails him square in the nose and follows up with another kick, to the exact same place. Blood pours from his nose as the girl cries out in terror and turns to run towards Wyatt and Willow, hiding behind them.

‘AHHH! My nose! Gorram it! My nose!” he drops his knife and clutches his nose in agony, trying to stem the bleeding. The other three start to laugh at him, then remember that they are supposed to be looking intimidating at you and seem embarrassed.

It is an awkward moment now. They obviously don’t want to fight you and the one of them might need some medical attention. ‘What she do that for?” the bleeding man whines, “We’s just having some fun.”

The gravel crunches behind you and you urn your head enough to see another man approaching. Wyatt and Sam recognize Fenris Apollo and nod a greeting before turning three attention to the ruffians.

Then, from around the side of the stables come running five men, all oriental dressed in black. They are armed with pistols on their sides, double machetes on their backs, while three carry shotguns and two have rifles. Four more come running around the other side of the stables, similarly armed. They look have the look and demeanor of Tong thugs and they are moving to surround all of you.

OOC: Tong are similar to Chinese Triad or the Mafia. Organized crime syndicates organized around families.

Frisco 11:00 AM RST

Wyatt, Willow and Sam strolled down the streets of Frisco on their way to the schoolhouse. They passed under the gravitic lifter track of the Magrail and passed by the building signed as the Transport station – Frisco. An older woman wearing a tattered gingham dress and a old style conductor’s hat is entering the station as you pass by. You observe that for a grandmotherly type of woman, she’s wearing a sawed off shotgun on her back in a leather quick draw rig. The hat tells you she must work there and the gun says she don’t put up with trouble.

Behind the Transport station is the Port Authority signal tower, tall and straight. It rises over twenty feet to a control tower room at the top. Single ladder bolted on to the tower is the only access to the control room.

On your left is “Tom Loughney’s Saloon and Oyster Parlor”, according to the hand painted sign outside the building. Not really a building as much as it is a dugout with a front entrance structure. Oysters in a desert, seems rather odd to you. As to the saloon part, you see a man lies on the ground outside the building, sleeping in the dirt. The smell is booze and urine is strong enough to reach your noses as you pass by.

Taking the route fastest to the school, you split off the main room and follow the pathway to your left. As you approach a livery stable just on your left, you see some men ahead of you, whooping and hollering. There are four of them, ruffians all - unshaved louts that you see all over the verse, living day to day on their wits and their guns. They are dressed in long coats and flannel shirts, armed with revolver pistols that look like dime store specials. Three of the men are pushing a man between them like he was a playground ball. As you approach, you realize the man is oriental, balding except for wisps of white hair and dressed in white robes of a priest. His eyes are completely white and he stumbles around as he is pushed between the men – you realize he is completely blind.

The fourth man is holding an oriental girl, who is crying out in Cantonese “//Please leave my Grandfather alone. He can’t see!//”

“Well maybe if you distracted us from the fun we are having with grandpa, bao bay, then maybe we could let him go” The man drawls to the girl, making free with his hands. “If you can keep us all entertained that is.”

The girl twists away from him and strikes him with a hard slap across the face – hard enough to make his head turn and he staggers back. His malicious grin changes instantly to a snarl.

"You gonna pay for that jien hwo!” he says, drawing a long knife from a sheath at his side.

Fenris had made his way into town from the bunkhouse and was about to turn down the main street towards the Frisco Port Authority when a group of people caught his attention. The hat and cost looked like Captain Wyatt and he recognized Sam Dash even from this distance. He didn’t know the lady holding on to the captain’s arm but kora had mentioned a lady doctor on board by the name of Willow. It looked like they were close to the livery stables so he could catch up with them.

I will keep a running list of people you have meet or are referred in this thread. there are a lot of people you can interact with in Frisco so I want to keep it clear as possible.

Bailey Sackett - Chief Mechanic for Hornsilver Mine. Usually JW's goto man on most things mine oriented. Suffers from Bowden's Malady.

JW McClarrin - Owner of the Hornsilver mine. Probably the one who saved you from detection. Also a parlimentary seat holder as well.

Brigit Trousdale - The hot School Marm. Engaged to JW and is apparently the one bankrolling the Ice drop, which is news to you.

Subject: Enter the Wolfman .Ooooooo

Planet Regina, City of Frisco. 10:15 am RT

I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told

Fenris Apollo picked up his bags and walked towards the door. Danny Sol looked up at his from his bunk, “You heading out Wolf?”

I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, Such are promises

“Yeah. Time to move on” Fenris said nodding a cordial goodbye, Not that he really cares, no one ever did around here the mechanic walked out of the bunkhouse and looked up into the blue sky of morning.

All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest, hmmmm

The wave from Kora was a buddasend to Fenris. Rocinante was his old friend Sam Dash’s ride and the property of Capt. Wyatt. Fenris liked the two well, Sam being a good man who helped him out of a jam once, and Wyatt being the straight shooting honest type that the Mechanic liked. Kora said they needed a mechanic, and he was more thaj willing to take the job. Not like Bailey Sackett would mind. Hell, when Fenris was hired he was promised all sort of things – good pay, a house and the like. But nothing came to fruition. Wasn’t Bailey’s fault though – this was the political muckity-mucks mess with his life.

So Fenris Apollo, or Wolf as most came to call him, packed up his stuff and headed towards the landing pads. Either as mechanic, or as passenger, it was time to leave this rock. Walking through the streets of Frisco, he saw the people that were suffering in this lawless town. Something needed to be done here, and he’d hoped that something would be done soon. JW was coming to town, and the mine owner had pulled a miracle from his hat before. Wolf wished that he could do something, but it was more than one man with a criminal record to his name could handle. Even an unearned one at that.

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
'Til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains.

Fenris is staying at the Mining Bunkhouse and has stayed there since you arrived about six months ago. You came here on promises of a paying job, a house and new beginning. Things haven't lived up to the promises, with the mine slowed to a crawl due to the embargo. You are living with miners, who don't socialize with you much because you ain't a miner. You have a room, not a house and overall you have been feeling the need to move on.

You recieved a wave the other day from an old friend "Kora". She tells you that your pal Sam Dash and Captain Wyatt of the Rocinante are heading your way and are looking for a mechanic. So you are up in the morning and ready to head over to the landing pads to see if your ship has come in. Figure either way, as mechanic or passenger, it's time to move off this rock.

Now I would like to post an intro to you in the game and then you can go ahead and post. if I don't get my butt in gear and get it done today, go ahead and post based on the info above, assuming you are on your way to the landing pad, but not quite there yet.

Wyatt gave a nod and scanned their surroundings once more, “Yup, Sackett. We’re the crew with the shipment. Now, if’n you don’t mind showing us where we’re supposed to unload this cargo and get paid, I’d be right obliged.”

Bailey nodded, “ Well me and some of the boys will be out come sundown to unload your shipment, Captain Wyatt. Say arounds midnight or so. As for payment …”

“Yeah,” Dash added, his eyes still roving the surroundings for any signs of the red-haired woman, “an’ if’n ya don’ mind showin’ me where ta find that yummy li’l copper-top as was standin’ over there, I’ll be yer best gorram friend inna world!”

Bailey wheezes a laugh at Sam’s comment, “Well that would be who you’d want to talk about payment. Her name is Brigit. Brigit Trousdale. At least it is for now, as she is JW’s fiancée. JW, being the man who owns the Hornsilver mine and is basically responsible for all of us being here.” Bailey looks around inquisitively, “Hurm…. I could have sworn Brigit was just over there. Oh, well she’s probably gone to see where JW is keeping. You can find her at the Schoolhouse often as not. She’s the School Marm here. Anyhow, she’s the one bankrolling this operation, to keep JW’s hands clean for the parliament and all. Talk to her about payment cause I’m out of the loop for this run.”

(throw in any questions here)

“Well I’s got work to do. See you tonight. There be saloons and the like in town. But be careful boys, and lady, “Bailey warns seriously, “This here is a lawless place. We gots no sheriff or lawman around here so it is best you keep to your irons, and an eye on your women, catch my meaning?”

Regina, City of Frisco. 10:15 am Regina Time

The cargo bay doors open up to a sight that not many of you have seen before. A whole mess of folk are there waiting for your arrival – from smiling dignitaries, fine dressed ladies, local miners, town folks, and everyone in between. A podium with a mike and speakers has been set up in front of the hatchway, all ready for some speechmaking and the like. As the doors begin to open, the sound of the brass bands begins to play loudly.

Bada daha Bada dah dadada,. Bada Daha bada Daaaaaaaaaaaaa…….”

The band peters off. Some of the people look at you confused and you can hear chatter amongst the folk.

“Where’s JW?”
“That ain’t JW!”
“She’s sure purdy though!”
“When they say they’d be here?”
“Be purdier without them …”
“Fool gone and landed in the wrong spot.”
“Someone stole my teeth”
“They’ve got a lot of guns”
‘I told them this wasn’t them”
“I said Julie, Don’t Go!”
“But it ain’t them. Them never listen but I knew”
“Kidnapped JW?”
“Ain’t them cause I knew it ain’t them”
“Shucks, wasted my day coming out”
“They ain’t JW. I knows JW and they’s ain’t no JW.”
“I put on my best duds for this?”

Some of the people start to drift off, ignoring you completely and seeming generally displeased that you are not who they were expecting. A couple of men start to head towards you, but they only grab the podium, the mike and speaker and then wander off towards the Port Depot. The well dressed officials form into a group and discuss their plight in great detail before deciding to head off to the Port Authority Depot for an explanation.

Of those that remain, one is a lady who watches you from a distance. She is without a doubt one of the most beautiful women any of you have ever seen, with big wide green eyes, flowing wavy red hair, and a voluptuous figure that would rival many a leading ladies on the holo stage. She focuses on no one in particular, but she certainly seems to be curious about you, getting a good look-see at all of you. She is dressed simply, in a flannel shirt and a beige skirt that is modest in all the proper ways.

A man approaches you with a slight smile on his face. He is a big man, square jawed and big shouldered with only a wisp of hair remaining on his head. He is dressed in oil stained overalls and a red checked shirt that looks like it has been used to clean a few engines. He appears to be in his late 40’s or early fifties. “I’m Bailey. Bailey Sackett.” He says offering his hand to shake. He introduces himself to each of you, making sure he gets your name right. He looks around and says loudly, “You must be the people with the CONTAINERS. Them CONTAINERS that belong to the mining guild, wouldn’t that be correct?”

As you talk to Bailey, some of you notice that the pretty lady has disappeared while you were occupied with the mechanic.

Looking around from your position at the Port Authority Depot, you can see a packed dirt road runs straight north up a slight rise into the heart of the town where the taller, more permanent building stand. The rest of the dwellings are tents, lean-tos and shacks built on whatever patch of ground was available at the time. You can hear the sound of the occasional gunshot rolling down the sun-baked avenue, along with raucous laughter from the saloons.

Welcome to Frisco.

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off
Subject: Leaping Gladiators, Dapple steals all of Dwarf's kills.

Char fought against his opponent using swords against hand and foot attack. The Green was fast, and able to deflect his blows skillfully. He tried to paralyze Char’s arm with those quick jabs, but the Ranger was wise to that trick and fought pass the numbness. Char took a reeling blow to the side of the head, and stumbled back. The green moved in to deliver a finishing blow but Char swung upwards into the move, cutting deep into the soldier's shoulder. Both of them stagger back and then come towards each other again. Spinning on a single foot, the imperial attempts to land a solid kick to Char’s throat – a fast and deadly move. Char has seen Dapple performed the move many times and with the wit borne of desperation, throws his head and shoulders backwards so the kick merely brushes his whiskers. The ranger spins into the motion, and kukri blades strike hard and fatally though the stomach of the soldier. He dies with a wince of pain at Char’s feet.

Kilgim circles his opponent with axes ready. Then as he turns to deliver a flurry of blows upon him, a part of the darkness detached from the shadows and strikes from behind. Dapple moves with catlike precision to strike the imperial in the back. Aiming for the critical organs and pain points in the back, the soldier dies without a sound as the rogue dispatches him. The dwarf wastes no time in watching the display and turns to engage the soldier at the stairwell. The cleric strikes well with blackaxe but the Green recovers enough to block the other axe and retaliate with a solid blow to the stomach.

Maximus calls out a mighty cry and hurls himself on the two remaining on the stairs. He manages to land on the stairs with a mighty clang but his balance is thrown off and with his first swing, loses his grip on his sword and it clatters down the stairs to the floor. As any good gladiator knows, there is no point in crying over a lost weapon, and Maximus uses whatever he has as a weapon and bashes the Green in front of him with his shield, not once but twice. The two Greens fire crossbows at Maximus but the close quarters and violently moving shield causes all their bolts to miss.

Jal finishes recasting his spell and sees Maximus’ plight. A split second decision is made and the little mage focuses his energies at the blade, moving it upward towards the gladiator.

Valentine finds himself with an opportunity with the one imperial soldier that has fallen prey to his grease spell. As the man recovers, the warrior mage attacks with his glassteel blade. He hits true twice against the sides, and then finds himself facing a standing opponent who strikes fast with quick jabs to Adrian’s left arm. The arm goes numb and useless and the mage is forced to switch to single handed attacks.

Arien and the enemy commander face off against each other. The flames of the sword do not throw fear into this enemy and the knight finds that he well matched. Bracers black the swift blow of the sword and armour and shield stop all kicks and punches. Vital areas are not exposed for the commander to use the nerve pinch techniques and the knight finds it hard to get pass the edge of the Green’s defenses.

The two Imperials strike out at the Gladiator and he looks like he is in trouble. Then Maximus sees movement out of the corner his eye and reaches for his sword. He immediately carries the movement through to attack the Green before him. An attempt to block a Vorpal blade proves to be his undoing and Maximus cuts the hand and arm to the bone. The soldier screams with intense pain which is cut short by the following blow.

Kilgim is shaken, but not stirred enough to fall down. The dwarf ignores the pain to attack his opponent with axes flashing. The Green manages to only block one attack and takes axe wounds to the arms. He steps backwards to avoid the fury of the dwarf.

Dapple sees the Green that Kilgim attacks move backwards. Never one to turn down free offering, the thief moves in with daggers again, killing the Green with two fatal blows.

(Insert some comment here about Dapple killing all of Kilgim’s Greens)

Valentine’s earlier blows must have struck deeper than he thought as the attacks from the Imperial are weak and easily turned. He responses in force and soon kills the soldier with an impressive backhand slash to the throat.

Arien delivers a number of hits the commander and the man is clearly staggering, bleeding profusely. The commander has not managed to break through Arien’s defenses or armour. Unwilling to surrender, the commander dies upon Arien’s sword.

The last of the soldiers faces certain death from above and below. He kneels before Maximus in subjugation and says, “Make it quick, please.”

Wounded
Arien: not a scratch
Char: Light Wounds
Maximus: Minor Wounds
Jal: Fine
Valentine: Paralyzed left arm
Kilgim: Light Wounds
Dapple: Minor Wounds

Note: Jal wanted to use Levitate on the Greens but the Spell only effects one "thing". So I took the liberty of having him change his mind in mid-combat.
