Subject: I'm going to be a Paladin!

Upon seeing the old man appear and the guards kneel Teros felt out of place and more than a little awkward. But the man acted in a manner that was befitting the amount of respect he was recieving, handling it with wisdom and grace and moving Teros into the Cathedral in no time at all.

Though Teros knew he was before someone important it wasn't until the old man told him that he realized just how important. His first reaction was to bow or show some sign of respect, but it was far too late for that and so he was left feeling a step behind and desperately trying to catch up. Instead he doing anything he merely sat down on the bench and let a moment of silence come between them before talking.

"Sir...I am on a quest that has been appointed to me not only by Lady Lavuria, but by many of the other Gods as well."

From here he continued to talk, slowly so that he could he try to think of any of the small details he may of otherwise forgotten. When they came to the part of the leaf he brought out his own and handed it to him. When it came time for his shameful abandon of his allies he mentioned that as well.

But it was the tale of Hajin Ra where he truly left out no detail. He described the place and even went a bit into his personal thoughts on the sacred ruins being used again. "I feel that Lavuria was surely watching over us, all of us." he added at one point. "We escaped without major injury, much less any deaths."

The story continued right up until he came to the city, and then he ended it. He waited patiently, and rather confidently, for the old man to pass judgement.

Subject: Test continues

It happened so fast. One moment he was attempting to end the fight by putting the man on his back, and then he was raising his shield to deflect the blade he saw out of the corner of his eye. The next thing he knew there was a blinding light filling his eyes and he could no longer control himself as he fell back to the ground. At first he thought that it was a spell, but as he fell he saw the shield and realized that it was something else entirely.

As he regained control of his body and stood up again the other Knight explained what had happened. He briefly replayed their adventures in Hajin Ra in his head as he glanced down at the shield, touching it briefly, before looking back up at the two.

"Hajin Ra." he said with a bit more confidence in the situation than he felt. He opened his mouth to say more but stopped, not sure he should go into details about why he was there. "I'm not a defiling thief." he added quickly, glancing between the two men.

Subject: Silly guard

((Just a note: Its been a long time since I've read a DnD book. I'm not fully sure what all my feats are for or if what I'm doing will cause an attack of opportunity. So bear with me if I do something stupid))

Without any warning Teros suddenly found himself falling to the ground. Surprise kept him from thinking quickly, but with years of experienced he managed to act on instinct and roll out of the way of the flat end of the weapon, the weapon slamming into the ground where he had just been.

Breathing hard and wide eyed with confusion he got on his feet and drew his weapon. His mind caught up with time as the element of surprise wore off and he realized that this was part of the test. If he couldn't best the guard what right did he have to serve the goddess? Still the situation was pressed and slightly awkward for Teros, so he responded the only way he knew how. He spread his legs and watched his enemy, but made no move for him (Dodge bonus vs the Guard and using Expertise for +4 AC).

(Just so we can move things along: Teros will take his time and fight defensively until the guard makes his move. After the guard attacks he'll try to trip him and force him to submit. Should that fail (either the trip or getting him to submit) he'll try to knock him out by using the hilt or flat of his sword.)

Teros nodded his head respectfully at the two guards. He smiled slightly before speaking, speaking as calmly as they had walked over to him.

"Good evening friends. I am here seeking training as a defender of Lavuria and her children, not for prayers specifically. Would I be able to enter now and meet my potential teacher? Or at least prove my worth?"

He was clearly eager to both learn of Lavuria and to dedicate himself further to her.

The whole deal with the Kelzonian had gone a lot better than Teros had expected. The bulls were bought and lead with them without incident. The Kender tried, although vainly, to explain to them that it would be far better to raise the cattle so they had a continous supply of meat and would no longer have to battle the Ralnarians. The attempt brought a small smile onto Teros's face and a bit later, as they were walking back, he russled the poor Kenders hair up a bit and gave him a friendly smile.

It was amazing, to Teros, how these people lived. Not that he found it difficult to believe people could survive in these conditions, but how they could seem so void of life at all. No emotions seem to come from them at all and he couldn't help but to compare them to the vast majority of animals who seemed to be the exact same. Perhaps not all of them were like this though, he thought as they lead the group, along with two bulls, down to the water. Without ceremony or any words they picked Damien and him to lead the bulls into the water. Teros wasn't eager to get back into the water, or to lead the bull to its death, but he did it and got out before the deed was done. It was quick and disturbed Jalem slightly. He closed his eyes and shook his head as they lead him away.

The rest of the night was uneventful, and indeed somewhat enjoyable. No feasts and no great stories, but it was quite pleasant. Perhaps the best part was leaving though. Even though the raft didn't look very safe Teros was glad to see it and be on his way. They were told it would lead to Human settlements but he had no idea that they would mean El Jalnine.

The city was beautiful and the beauty was only enhanced by the setting sun. Knights of Lavuria stood atop the walls, faint images of the gardens, the voices of hundreds of people crowding the marketplace even this late in the day...it all was a testament to Ralnarian people's ability to survive and thrive. Of course he had been very impressed with the lands to the north, but there was nothing quite like being in ones own lands. Ignoring the larger ships who threatened to wipe them all out Teros stood, one hand on his hip, looking at the city.

His casual demeanor to the larger ships turned out for the better as nothing happened. They docked and were greated by two guards who seemed pleasant enough. One by one the party members asked for directions to places under some unspoken agreement they would all split up, relax, and meet up later. It crossed his mind that this wasn't a very good idea as they hadn't decided where to meet up later, but he was sure they would all cross paths eventually. All of the party members, except perhaps himself, would stand out and he would be sure to find them if he asked around. However Rinrin seemed to address exactly what was on his mind and he nodded silently at her. If all went well he wouldn't be spending the night with the group.

Finally it was his turn.

"Good day Friends." he smiled at the guards, speaking in their native tongue. "I'm interested in visiting a temple of our Goddess, perhaps one that would be willing to tell me of the various Orders of warriors who have dedicated themselves to Lavuria?"

He knew the rest of the group might not appreciate him speaking in Ralnarian, but when else would get so many chances as in his homeland? Besides..it would be better to surprise them.

When the Kelzonians picked him to help make the distraction it was both a relief and a confusing thing for Teros. They did not trust him, and these were his people. His natural loyalties fell with them, and for all they knew he could just as easily rat them out and launch some attack that would catch them off guard, saving his comrades in the process. Perhaps they did trust him, or perhaps it was part of some sort of test. Whatever the reason he was pleased to not be partaking in the actual theft.

Elandor fell naturally into the role of lying, or at least Teros assumed he was lying, and began to tell the men they wanted two bulls for their quest. When Teros thought about it, it wasn't really a lie. We DID need these two bulls for the quest to carry on.

Seeing as how Elandor had the situation covered Teros did the only thing that came naturally, which was to act like a bodyguard. With his arms crossed he looked over each of the men, as if sizing them up in case he had to fight them, and kept a very serious look on his face. It was small, but there was nothing to do but wait at this point.

The Kelzonians spoke briefly to Teros, causing him to frown slightly before shrugging as they carried on talking to the rest of the party. However it was easy to see that he wasn't happy, and instead of being pleased with the lizards he gave them a look of distrust.

Eventually the boat landed on the shore and the group was ushered out onto the shore. The joy of solid land under their feet was destroyed by surrounding kelzonians, all holding weapons and looking at them. For a second Teros thought that they may have to defend themselves, or this may of been some trick and they would end up lunch for something or someone. But the glances remaind just that, and eventually they were hurried forward. But even though these were their saviors Teros couldn't shake the feeling that they were their wardens.

After a while they were lead back onto the surface, and under slab of rock that housed a village of the Kelzonians, even Teros had to admit it was very impressive. But there was no time to sit back and take in the sights. The group was pushed forward and eventually into a skin adorned hut. For a moment Teros wondered over how such primative people could defy the children of Lavuria, but he dismissed such thoughts for later. Afterall these people had saved his life, he could at least be slightly open minded in his approach to them.

However such thoughts became difficult when one of the lizardmen announced that they would be raiding cattle to help pay off their debt. Almost immediatly a look of alarm went to Teros's face and and he opened his mouth to protest but thought better of it and shut his mouth. This was utterly wong and probably treason. For a second he paused, and recieved a slight prod in the back from one of the guards, which made him move forward with a bit more zeal. Still his thoughts dominated his focus. One thing was sure, if he could get out of this he would.

Teros breathed a sigh of relief as the Dragon informed them that they would not be eaten this day. He looked up at the Kelzonians and nodded, still not fully sure how he should deal with them. Eventually the Kelzonian spoke in a very thick accent, which was incredibly hard to decipher, but not impossible. His past encounters had shown that they could speak Ralnarian with ease, so before any of the others could speak Teros spoke out.

"Ralnarian?" he asked, clearly asking if they could speak the language. (If they can't, he'll talk in Common)

"My name is Teros Razorsun, trust me when I say its a pleasure to meet you. We ment no disrespect in trespassing, sir. We fled from a group of defilers in Hajin Ra, and once we got on the water there was only way to go." Teros paused. "I cannot speak for the party, but I appreciate what you have done. And I am sorry if we put some burden upon you. I consider myself in your debt, and I would be eager to repay it so long as it does not interfer with my current obligations. If you wish, we will leave as soon as our injured are taken care of.""

Teros gave a very slight bow to put emphasis to his words.

The despair that washed over Teros as the Dragon mocked him and proclaimed that his master was once the Dark Lord, and that regradless he would eat them, was immense. He stood there, half swimming, stunned and ashamed. It didn't cross his mind how lucky he was that the Dragon hadn't picked him to eat, but rather Damien.

It wasn't until a piercing, shrill, sound short forth did Teros seem to snap back into reality. His eyes shot from the Dragon to the shore, and he saw a small boat like thing with what appeared to be heavy weaponry on it. Inbetween the weapons and the armor were what appeared to be Lizard men, possibly Kelzonians. But what was most strange to him was the weaponry on the ship, and it made him question if they were friend or foe. However the situation was dire, and even though the Kelzonians were usually not friends with his people, there was certainly no way they could beat the beast, especially not in the water.

Glancing back at Damien, possibly for the last time, Teros drew his sword and muttered the word to activate it, causing the water around it to heat up and steam just a bit. Though he was a poor swimmer, he made his way to the boat.

((When Teros gets within 10 feet of the boat he'll call out to them in first Ralnarian and then Common, asking their intention. If he gets no reply, or a hostile one, he'll try to go around them, ducking under water to avoid spears or arrows, and make his way to shore. If its friendly he'll get on board (if they offer a hand or something), or swim out of the way and see what they do, offering a hand to his other allies if they require it.))

When the Dragon Eel seemed to start laughing, Teros thought it was over. That the story was too fantastic and was nothing more then ravings of a desperate man who didn't want to die as someone's meal. But when he spoke, he showed caution, asking him to prove the quest. For a second it crossed his mind just how amazing that was. This beast was powerful, and awe inspiring, and yet even he tread the path of caution unless he spark the wrath of the Gods. It inspired a little spark of confidence in Teros to know that this Dragon Eel had masters over him too.

The thoughts only lasted a second, because he was still afraid. But he was also confident he could provide sufficient proof as to their quest. Without turning his back to the Dragon Eel Teros shouted back to The Kender and Vilyamar, his voice slightly less afraid and desperate. "Show him the hilt and the plate that gives the vision." Teros now addressed his words to the Dragon Eel. "The hilt is called the Hilt of Light, and it will become a weapon that will save this world. While the plate, I do not know its name, but it shows us where we must go next. This is all the evidence I can think to provide, unless you can gaze at the night sky and see several new stars that were created when we took leaves from a tree in an Elven village."

Teros waited for the Dragon Eel to pass judgement.

The flight from the group of defilers was rather hectic. Although they had escaped immediate threat with a few simple spells, the threat of being chased still remained and the group rushed through the darkness, making a quick decision to turn left rather than right. As they rushed through the darkness the ground grew wet, and occassionaly Teros lost his footing and would slide. However the kept up with the group.

Eventually the sound of water came, which would explain why the ground was wet, and soon came to an underground river. Perhaps if they were not fleeing for their lives it would of been a sight to marvel at for a second. The room was illuminated with a soft glow from strange mushrooms. For Teros it was very peaceful, even with the powerful roar of the waterfall. But there was no time to linger, the pause was only for a moment because the group spotted a boat. There wasn't much of a decision, they had to take it.

At first the decision to get on the boat seemed like a huge mistake. The waters pulled them with more force than any of them had expected to the waterfall. They very nearly came to death before they managed to regain control of the boat and get it away from the crushing pillar of water. That last burst of effort had pushed some of the last reserves Teros had, and once they were free of the pull, the simply let the river take them.

As he leaned against the side of the boat he noticed that the others looked tired as well. The adrenaline was leaving their bodies, and now they all that running, fighting, and paddling was catching up with them. Giving a tired smile at Marie he turned and looked down at the water as it flowed by. There wasn't really anything of interest, he couldn't really see anything at all since the water was so dark A few times he thought he saw something, but he dismissed it the top water rushing by and reflected some of the dim light back at him. However he did notice how thristy he was, and for a second he was tempted to reach into the water and drink. But the water was dark, and probably deep. It probably wasn't safe to reach into it, much less DRINK it.

As the water drove them along swiftly he turned his gaze upwards, and soon noticed that the ceiling turned into a beautiful glow of mushrooms. He could hear the movement of the group around him and, with a bit of hesistance, sat back up looked around. The room was bigger now, but that wasn't the most interesting thing. Ahead of them was actually a shore, and on the shore were buildings. Excitement filled Teros as the thought of meeting people filled his mind. Perhaps even descendants. who had escaped Lavuria's wrath and fled to where she could not shine!

Suddenly the boat shuddered and rocked. As a reflex Teros gripped the side of the boat and glanced at the other party members to see what they were doing. Most were alarmed and trying to find what had caused this. Teros thought that perhaps they had merely hit something, but as soon as he thought that a giant....thing rose from the water. It looked like a dragon and a eel at the same time, and it gazed at them with intelligence. This had to be the Dragon Eel that he had heard of in stories before.

Almost as quickly as he had come up, he was gone again. But this time the quickly felt his presence as he crashed into the boat, sending the nose of it into the air. Teros clung to the side of the boat and the board under him and focused on holding on, not wanting to share the water with that terrifying thing. He heard a splash behind him before the boat fell back down the water and allowed him to relax a bit, though his right hand still clung to the side of the boat.

Again the giant creature shot up from the water, but this time it spoke to them. When he spoke, everyone stopped moving. They all froze and listened to his message, which basically came down to someone being eaten. Before anyone could react the beast bit off the front of their boat, and sent the group into a panic. No one wanted into the water. But soon Teros found himself clinging to the sinking ship and at the same time kicking his feet to stay up in the water.

And thats when the beast moved up on him. It gazed at him, and then seemingly sniffed him. Perhaps it was deciding if he would make a decent meal or not. Fear gripped Teros for a moment, and he gazed back at the thing with wide eyes. Teros did not want to die, and he was certain that he couldn't kill the thing before it ate him. His mind raced, and so he talked to the thing.

"Mighty Dragon Eel, please hear me out. We are servants of the Gods, here to save the world that you live in as surely as we do!" his voice grew more confident. "We did not mean to disturb your lair, but we were fleeing from a large group of men who were defiling the holy places of Lavuria. I can see the intelligence in your eyes! Stop for a moment and let us speak. You are certainly powerful, but the Gods are more powerful than you. It would be a mistake to devour men and women who claim to be under a divine quest and possibly incur the wrath of these Gods! Speak with us for a moment, and set aside your hunger. There can be no harm in a short conversation to decide if we are a safe meal or if we're even a decent meal!"

Teros gazed up at the beast, having pushed the fear back so that it barely showed. He tried to hold its gaze, to show confidence. He made no move for his weapons, or to look for support from his allies. Neither would save him.

Subject: Catching up

As The Kender began to collapse Teros's instincts took over and he caught the small, limp, figure before he bashed his head open on the ground. He was only out for a few seconds, but when he came to he started to rant on about a while and malestorm. Teros decided it was best to remain silent, instead watching as the other members of the party touched the object. First Rinrin and then Scourge. Being curious, and seeing it was safe, Teros reached out and gently touched it.

The "vision" that followed was incredible, but it wasn't as strange as The Kender made it sound. Then again, he made everything sound so fantastic.

When the vision ended Teros jolted and let out a slight gasp as his fingers withdrew from the object. For a few seconds he thought over what he had seen, having the sort of look one usually has after waking up from a dream that affected them moreso than normal. Occassionaly his eyes would dart up to look at someone who was talking, but for the most part he seemed stuck in his own little world, content to just let things flow by as he normally was. Eventually he noticed the group was leaving the room, and he followed behind everyone else. His mind, however, cleared fast enough to remember the shield that had opened the way to the artifact, and he paused for a moment to take it. It may have lost its magical properties, but it was still holy.

Though he was content within the warm blanket of his thoughts, something changed. It took him a moment to fully realized what had changed, but then he saw it: The rope was gone. In fact, there were people here. Apparently the leader knew the group and he was here to plunder the goods of this holy site.

Immediately Teros was torn. They had a duty to the world, but he had a duty to Lavuria. Such a man had no right to touch or even see the items within, and the thought of him selling it someone disgusted him. But what could be done? Rinrin already had a plan in motion, and there really was nothing that could be done. He could only carry out the plan and pray.

"Lavuria curse you. Such a sad fate when her children turn against their mother." he muttered in Ralnarian, loud enough for those around him to hear, but not loud enough for them to really think he was doing anything other than rambling. With that last comment, he prepared do his part in the plan..which really consisted of nothing other than running.

Subject: A chest?

Whenever you reached a key point in the story you were generally rewarded with some beautiful sight, and some climatic moment. But this was none of these. It was just some dusty, forgotten, room with a single, bare, chest in it. Perhaps there was something more to the story.

Almost immediatly The Kender skittered forward to inspect and touch the chest, not doubt trying to find a way inside to grab whatever shiny objects were inside. Shaking his head slightly and grinning, Teros strode forward behind The Kendor and knelt down to inspect the chest.

"There's nothing here? Is this another puzzle?"

Teros frowned and looked over at The Kender beside him, awaiting to see what he would do.

When the light from the shield met the cave, there wasn't much to see. It looked like a cave, with all the things you would be found in a cave: Stalactites, stalagmites, and a lot of rock and darkness. Although the cave interested Jalem, he wasn't keen on taking up Elandor's offer of exploring it at this time. They already had a task at hand, and they could always come back here and do this.

One after another, the group mentioned their suggestions on their matter. The monk said, basically, what he thought. And he found The Gnome's suggestion weak, and not making enough sense to carry through. But it was his turn to put his two cents in and he decided to do so.

"I agree with him." Teros nodded at the monk. "We already have a task to complete, and there is no reason for why we should stray from it."

The blinding light stopped with a mere turn of the wrist, and immediatly Teros's free hand went to his eyes. He was aware of a few voices, one screeching and one talking to him about his shield. It took a few moments for everything to come into focus, but eventually he got enough of it to grasp it all. With a slight sigh he removed his right hand from his face and turned to face Marie.

Even though he had spent a few moments trying to recover his eyesight, it wasn't enough. Everything was really dark. As he squinted he could see well enough that Marie was moving for his left arm, apparently taking too long for her taste. "I'm going." was his reply as he took a half step back. He held her gaze, or what he as fairly certain was her gaze, for a second before stepping around her and moving to the hole.

"Alright Kender. I'm here. Here is your light." he said half heartedly as he placed the shield at the entrance of the hole. His eyesight had basically returned to normal by now, but he was starring blankly at the wall and thinking.

Subject: Are you happy now?

As Teros stood, trying to comprehend the statue, a plan was set in motion which apparently involved him. With a slight reluctance he nodded to the plan and tried to prepare for throwing a rope to catch a hook. Although he was sure he could do it he hadn't done anything else like this before, and so it made him slightly nervous. Marie seemed to sense his slight apprehension and devoured it like some giggly pre-teen girl.

"Well lets just hope you tie a laso better than you flirt." he said with a serious face, trying his hardest to not smile or laugh as he took the rope. Turning to face the hook he began to gauge the throw and then tossed the rope. It took him two throws to get the hang of what he was doing, and the third one almost made it but fell back to the ground. After each failure Marie would remark on the failure, calling them strikes. Just after the rope was back in his hand after the third failure she started to say something, but Teros flung the rope up and caught the hook. She stopped what she about to say, and recieved a grin and a look from Teros that screamed "What you're not gonna say it now?" before Teros turned back to the rope and made sure it was secure.

The Kender quickly scaled the rope and secured the shield, and Teros took his place in the light and started the chain reaction. Almost as soon as the light met the shield the entire room changed. The Goddess seemed to come alive, and she glowed so fiercely that he could not hold his gaze upon her. For a few moments he was dazed, but then he remembered his place and fell on his knees and began to say a prayer of sorts in Ralnarian.

Teros was vaguely aware of someone passing him, and standing in front of him. Marie said something about his shield and something fitting inside of it perfectly. But he didn't move, his prayer wasn't done. And soon he heard another, higher pitched, voice bouncing around him with a strange sort of joy that seemed to fit the scene. However it sooned hurried off without anyone being able to respond.

After a full minute or two he stopped his prayer and stood up. Marie was standing in front of him holding a diamond of sorts, and after a bit he understood that she wanted the diamond to be placed into the shield. It crossed his mind that it seemed sort of wrong that she had surely approached the statue, but he shrugged if off and accepted the token without a word.

However he didn't immediatly place it in the shield. Instead he studied it for a short time and then turned to the rest of the group, eyeing each one of them. It seemed slightly unfair that so many Ralnarians would not be blessed by such a sight their entire, devout, lives, but these people would. It seemed to him that those jealous feelings were wrong, and he did feel guilty for having them. That was until he saw the pale figure of Damien.

Almost as soon as his eyes landed upon the man his face controted to one of anger and rage, and he strode forward to the Bard. The words he had spoken the first day they had met, in the Tavern, were not forgotten. Nor was his outburst at the Elven City. The rest of these noble souls may be worthy to stand before the Goddess, but he was not.

"Blasphemer!" he shouted in Ralnarian. "You have no place here! Free yourself from the Gods do you? Think it better to surrender to the dark forces do you?" he paused, certain the man couldn't understand a word, but waited a few moments for a reply anyways. "Look!" he pointed at the statue, half turning to give him a view. "Do you see?" he turned back, blocking the view. "Go!" he pointed out of the doors, "You have no place here!" he would of spit on the mans feet but he didn't want to desecrate such holy ground as this. Instead he gave the bard a defiant look, turned his back to him, and then set the diamond in his shield.

Marie congratulated Teros on his engagement and then pressed on with more talk. Perhaps now that he was claimed he was far more interesting, but regardless of the reason she was being quite friendly with him. She even insulted his fighting abilities, but he was fairly certain it was nothing more than a playful jab.

"Mmhm." he said with a raised eyebrow and a grin on his face. "Better to be a "tid-bit" useful than useless. You make a great meat shield though, perhaps I should abandon this shield and just carry you around."

After the Kender dismissed his worries and went scouting with Vilyamar, Teros was left with the rest of the group. Marie started walking around and Scourge held his place at the door, acting as a sort of torch. The rest of the group, which was really just the Gnome, Bard, and himself sort of stood around and waited for the Kender to return and give them the go ahead.

At first his eyes scanned the surrounding area, but it didn't take long for him to get bored with that. Instead he started rocking back and forth on his heels and casually glancing around while thinking of such mundane things as what kinda dress Mya would be wearing when he returned.

However it didn't take long for Marie to wander over to him and begin talking to him. Apparently this was a good time to strike up a conversation, and who was he to disagree? Its not like he didn't enjoy the conversation or he had something better to do.

She questioned him about his fiancee and how it all came about. For a second his face flashed to show how unsure he was about this subject, but he quickly covered that with words instead.

"Well, usually, when you see yourself attatched to a person of the opposite gender, you ask them to become your spouse and present them with a ring. Then you spend the rest of your lives together in a thing called marriage." The last word was said slowly, as if he was speaking to a child. Meanwhile he had the biggest grin on his face and his eyes were alight with mischief.

He gave a slight chuckle and then shook his head. "Mya and I met when were both young. She took care of me." His grin fell so that it was barely there, and he idly rubbed the scar that ran across his cheek. "And..."

At that moment Vilyamar showed up and told them the coast was clear. Teros, to be honest, was more than a little happy. Remembeing was good, but he didn't want to think on it right now.

"Another time then, eh?" he nodded at Marie and followed the group down the hall.

--------------------------------------------------------

The first thing Teros noticed was the cubby. It was strangely out of place in the amazingly well perserved ruins. He was almost certain that it would play a part to this puzzle, but no part of him was eager to capitalize on it. The Kender would end up sticking his hand in it or crawling in it. For all his teasing, though, he really did like the little guy. Who could hate him?

Past the door was an interesting scene. Mirror like objects lined either wall, and against the far wall was a lowered ceiling, creating a protective cubby.

But by far was the object that stood at the base of this cubby. The statue was beautiful, and for a second he felt a ping of joy and pride as he gazed upon it. Even in rock form, her beauty radiated. But as he gazed upon her face he felt a sinking feeling. She had no face, and it was the strangest thing.

Marie was the first to point out the elephant in the room and Teros frowned as he thought. Eventually he shrugged. "Though my Mother was one, I am no Cleric or Scholar of Lavuria. Usually she has a face...I don't understand what this means."

Regardless of what it ment, he didn't like it. He gazed upon the statue, thinking, and almost oblivious of what was happening around him.

As Rinrin and Vilymar responded to his question Teros's eyes grew bright. A Holy Relic. The history Rinrin presented seemed to demand this shield be used to fight the forces that threatened this world again.

As the group proceeded back up the stairs Teros was bombarded by questions by Marie. As she went on with the seemingly never ending stream of questions, Teros gave a slightly nervous smile and eyed the woman with a bit of caution.

When she finished he let a small pause and then a slight chuckle and a small shake of the head. "Mya" he paused and gave a childish grin, making it clear he was correcting her, "is fine. She agreed to marriage and is with her Father on a small Horse Farm we bought." He paused and let that sink in for a second or two before he continued. "Yes. If you mean when The Kender there showed me his little trick." Teros motioned to The Kender as he spoke.

"As to my return..." he paused again and took on a more serious look. "I...realized it would be in Mya's best interests if I returned. It did not seem right to leave you all anyways. Perhaps it was a blessing that I left." The serious look faded on the last sentance and a bright smile returned to his face.

"You have too many questions! The Light was the Goddess and Mother of my People..Lavuria. A test. Now be calm." he gave her a friendly nudge on her shoulder, "We'll have much more time to talk on such things. I'll enjoy a conversation sometime."

---------

The group continued to the text he had not been able to read. As the group stood at the crossroads Teros remained silent and watched. Everyone else seemed to know what the stone said except him, but he wasn't eager to step up and say anything. Indeed he decided it would be better to sit and watch first. Scourge went to the other tunnel and illuminated it, but there was nothing of interest to be seen.

What interested him far more was options given to the group. Apparently they could either go down the hallway or place the shield in the statue's hand. For a split second a slight frown appeared on his face, but he caught himself and hid his dissapointment. No one needed to be say that.

It only took a few seconds for the voice of Vilymar to bring him out of his thoughts. He proclaimed that the group must go down the tunnel, that the poem itself was a puzzle and that we were missing an element to the puzzle. While the thought of another puzzle or more enemies did not please Teros, he was grateful to have the shield for a little longer. As greedy as that sounded.

Once again a voice cut into his thoughts. This time it was Marie. Once he figured out that what she was talking about something that didn't really affect him he only half-payed attention. The same went to Vilymar's response, and only The Kender caught his attention.

"There's another group?" Teros chimed in. He wanted them to fill him in, seeing as how he hadn't been around for two days. "And normally I would agree little one, but I would just as soon expect you to do something foolish and get yourself killed. I take it -you- were he one to trip the trap with the shield hmm?" He grinned at The Kender. "Though I suppose it would be better if you tripped some trap without the whole group there." He winked at The Kender. "I suppose its up to the others."

Subject: My shield...MINE

Teros felt like a fool, his arms up in the air as he watched the group rush past him. The Kender was a friendly fellow though and of course he flung himself at the much larger man. Not really surprising, in fact he had braced himself for the little ball with a ton of energy and a short attention span. For a few seconds he said something about being glad to see Teros again, and then said something about being able to make a rabbit. At first he gave a little surprised look and then watched as the small man played with the light to make something that kinda looked like a little shadow rabbit. Teros gave a slight chuckle and shook his head slightly "You'll have to show me how to do that sometime. Mya would love it."

The little Kender brushed past and the rest of the group followed. Giving a quick glance over at the group who was outside the doors, he lowered the shield from the light and rushed out of the room. Aside from his own footsteps, he didn't hear anything, but he didn't want to take any chances. As soon as he was out the doors shut and he felt like he could finally breathe and relax.

With a slight, friendly, smile he glanced around at the others in the group. He had no words that would come on their own, so he simply smiled and then glanced down at the shield.

The shield was a silver color, but upon closer inspect it was made of something far more valuable and useful: Mithril! Indeed it was an incredible shield, and the mithril made it light enough that it would be useful for his fighting style. Slowly, and somewhat awkwardly, he slid it onto his left arm and gripped the end strap. It felt awkward since he had only held a few shields, however he wasn't concerned about figthing with it for now. Instead he turned it upwards so he could look at it again, and this time noticed a 8 arm star with two arms that seemed to look like wings. He also noticed some strange writing on it, but he could neither read it or understand what language it was.

Glancing up, he noticed a few others in the group had been inspecting the shield as well. In that second of pause he noticed just how silent it was and decided it might be best if he broke it. "What does this...writing mean?" he looked back down and drew his fingers lightly over the words as he spoke. Perhaps it was simply because the shield could be found as a holy artifact for his people, but Teros found the shield very interesting.
