Subject: Darlthenia Thesias

It was just about midnight in Thyatis. The darkened streets were vacant save for two cloaked figures making their way through the shadows in search of their target. Had any cared to be watching they might have thought these were they who were responsible for the disappearances of the bums in Axe Town.

She watched them silently as they went. Her green eyes followed their every move. Chuckling silently to herself, she knew who these men were and for what purpose they had come. She knew of the situation with the disappearances, some said they were abductions, and knew the Dark Hand had sent these two to find her.

She slipped from one hiding spot to the next, and remained undetected for quite some time. “Surely Mr. Man can do better than these two bozos.” she thought to herself.

“How the hell are we supposed to find her? The Dark Hand says she’s the best he’s ever had.”

A finely shaped eyebrow arched at these words. She shook her head. “MUCH better.” She thought. She stepped out of her hiding spot a short distance behind the two, a tiny stone bouncing soundlessly in her hand. Grinning mischeviously to herself, she debated on which of the two should be her target.

Just then the second man, slightly taller than the first, and apparently a bit older, perhaps wiser as well?, stopped and put his hand on the other man’s arm. He placed his finger to his lips and mouthed something to his companion.

Deciding to target the man who had so stupidly spoken, she raised her arm and let the pebble fly. She grinned in satisfaction and stood there with her arms crossed over her chest, as the stone came to an abrupt stop when it made contact with the back of the man’s head. The rock did not make it to the ground below, as the second man caught it in his hand, and held it there.

Without turning to see the perpetrator, the taller man spoke. “He calls for you.”

The idiot who had spoken turned and stepped toward the woman, a strip of cloth in his hand. She raised an eyebrow at him, an almost amused look on her face. “He is more stupid than I thought if he thinks he will get any closer to me without suffering a bit of damage.”

As if reading her mind, the taller man stopped the idiot and snatched the cloth from his hand. He tossed the strip of material to the woman they had come to fetch, and she placed it securely over her eyes. She knew the drill; None except the Dark Hand himself and his two guards were to know the exact location of his quarters. Thus she was lead to the Dark Hand in silence as she counted every step, and made note of every turn.

Once inside the Dark Hand’s “lair” and standing before him, she removed the blind fold. She gave a barely noticeable nod to the master of this order of thieves, and waited for him to speak.

Her eyes never left his face as she listened to all the man had to say about the situation in Axe Town, all the while taking in every detail of the room.

“I will, of course, accept this mission you wish to send me on. This matter shall be resolved.”

After taking whatever provisions the Thief lord had to offer her, a mischievous glint re-entered her eyes, and a sly grin spread across her full lips.

“Don’t mind me, I’ll show myself out.” Even as she spoke she placed the blind fold securely over her eyes once more, and was gone before any could protest.

No, I had not put on the new armor, but if I understood the post correctly, even that would have been destroyed as it was in her pack which was with her when she entered the cave...is that right? although technically I hadn't posted that I put that in my pack either...so I'm not really sure.

Subject: I'm still here! (believe it or not! :P)

(back posting)
With her sword in one hand, and her shield ready in the other, she kicked open the door, an almost blood thirsty look on her face. “Bring it on!” she hissed in a deadly tone even as she slashed at the nearest foe.

Little did Artanis know that she would be hissing her menacing threat at an overly large slab of beef. Her eyes suddenly resembled that of a fish, always largely round, with no lids with which to blink. She was still staring dumbfounded at the hanging meat when she caught movement in the farthest reaches of her vision. She almost had no time to react. She raised her shield just as the smelly orc’s weapon came crashing down. Then everything went terribly wrong.

The shield began to quake in a vicious attempt to relieve Artanis of her arm. The vibrations forged a path along her entire body, as a brush fire roaring to life on the dry prairies of the south in mid-August. Her teeth slammed together repeatedly, and her eyes tried to jump free of their ever confining prison. It would have been comical had it not been so painful.

Suddenly there was a deafening thunder, and a blinding flash of lightning. And then there was nothing.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Artanis suddenly choked on some sort of liquid, and slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Xaris’ face looking down at her. She wondered briefly why he was looking at her so strangely, and why on earth she was laying down when there were Orcs to dispose of. Then there was no thought at all save one. PAIN! Her entire body was suddenly engulfed in such horrendous pain, her consciousness threatened to escape once more.

Managing, just barely, to hang on, she glanced around the room and she remembered what had happened. ”Hmmmm, note to self: NEVER touch a magic item, let alone use it, without first knowing what the hell it does!”

" Here, let me help you. The bridge is up, and Kas has her horse on the other side. We'll get you out of here soon."

Xaris helped Artanis sit up, and then stand. She grimaced with every movement, hating that this valiant warrior was seeing her in such a dreadfully vulnerable and weakened state.

Artanis made her way back toward the gaping hole in the path. She leaned heavily on the walls for support, and was so glad Xaris was there, despite everything. Were it not for his steadying hand, she would have fallen several times, no doubt only adding to the immense pain that already engulfed her head to toe.

As the gap in the stone floor loomed ahead, Artanis grimaced and groaned inwardly. “Guess I won’t be leaping across this monstrous chasm. How the hell did I manage it the first time?!” Somehow, the 10’ void seemed much larger, and much more impossible to cross than it had the times before.

" Ok, how we're gonna do this is you get on your hands and knees, and crawl first. I'll be behind you to make sure you don’t fall. Kas can even tie the rope around you incase anything happens. But I'm light enough hopefully so two people won’t matter."

Artanis balked at the mere idea of crawling across the bridge. To do such a thing, especially in front of anyone, would be humiliating and she would never be able to look them in the eye again. She almost protested, but she stopped herself. She knew she had already screwed up royally by using the shield, despite others’ warnings against it. Now she would be more of a burden than of any use to anyone until she was fully healed. She didn’t need to let her pride get in the way, walk across the bridge, end up falling, possibly causing Xaris to fall as well, and make things so much worse than they already were. “Pride does come before a fall after all.”

That thought in mind, Artanis swallowed her pride, and did as she was told. She let Xaris tie the rope around her, biting back tears from the pain of the rope touching her charred flesh. She blinked and looked down at herself, and almost died right there on the spot. “I’m practically naked!” Her eyes darted to Xaris to see if he noticed, then looked away. She hoped no one could see how mortified she felt.

Once the rope was securely fastened around her, she was about to do as had been suggested and get down on all fours to make her way across the bridge. However, Loriel saved her just in time.

Loriel introduces a young boy. Artanis looks at him, looks down the hallway, up at Loriel, then back at the boy. She can see that the poor child is in more pain than even she herself was in, and she knew his Mother was gone.

“Xaris, there was another Orc I just killed him but we need to get out of here. Let me help you get Artanis up and moving.”

Then, with Loriel and Xaris on either side of her, she (thankfully) was able to walk across the bridge. She was relieved once they made it to the other side. For a second there, she was sure the make-shift bridge was going to buckle beneath the pressure of holding so much weight.

Once on the other side, Artanis whispered to Kas, ”Have you anything I can wrap around myself? I uh….I’m cold.”

“Whoring tease of a wench!”

Artanis looked at the small group in surprise. “What the hell?!” She instinctively reached for her sword, but her fingers touched nothing but air. She frowned and cursed herself for her stupidity yet again. Not only was her armor completely destroyed, and her clothes non-existent, but her weapons were gone as well. “They were probably melted into a puddle before being vaporized from that lightning flash.” she thought to herself. She had never felt more useless in her life, than she did in that moment.

In a flash Kas was gone, and she cursed not for the last time that day, at her incredible stupidity and also at her weakened state.

To Xaris and Loriel she says, “Go quickly! I will stay with the boy!”

Subject: money

I say we keep our own for our own personal needs, and if a situation arises where we need to pool the money together, then we can do it at that time...?

OR

Maybe we can each give a certain percentage of our monies into a group fund, and any time we come across treasures/loot, it can be devided evenly among the group, with the group fund getting a percentage of the total loot before dividing it up...

Or something along those lines. Just thoughts.

I do want to say to all you players, that I am sorry for rushing in like this. I've always tried to be the careful one in my RPing, and this is exactly why. That'll teach me to run off half cocked, and without knowing what I'm getting myself into...not to mention, magic items? bad bad bad...I think IF Artanis survives this catastrophe, she will be hard pressed to even touch an item that could have even a slight possibility of being magical, not until she knows what it does.

And just an FYI, my goal was to kill off any creatures we came across, or passed by, because that way there wouldn't be any enemies left at our back. It was a good idea....but ..

Other than that, coolness! hehe Now I can't help but ask, was the inspiration for this speech derived from the smites and ribbing about the Pun you posted in one of the gaming/survey threads?

Well, as Artanis is practically dead, and no one has any healing left. I guess I'm out of the game. Sucks, but as Kaelyn said, these things happen.

Hmmm, well, as it has been explained to me, I am NOT dead yet, and as such, am not necissarily out of the game yet. So....I will just have to wait and see what our kill-happy DM does next...

After drinking the potion, Artanis felt much better and ready for combat. She stood and made sure that all her weapons were securely in place. She then headed toward Xaris with the intention of asking if he was interested in partaking of the fun of dispatching any foul creatures they may come across along the way.

She stopped about halfway there, as she noticed he appeared to be in a deep and important conversation with Elesia. She frowned a bit, wondering if he was ok. Deciding to give him his privacy, she turned and headed for the opening to the cave. Artanis looked back at Xaris briefly, concern for her friend plain on her face, before entering the cave. She knew she could not let Loriel and Kas go in alone. She felt the need to be there to help if anything should happen.

As she approached the hole in the ground she reached for her rope, thinking she would try to use it to cross the gap in the cold, lifeless stones. A grin suddenly appeared upon Artanis’ face as she suddenly had a better idea.

Always one to test her limits and abilities, Artanis chose against using the rope, and began to run. She got up to full speed just at the right moment, and pushed off against the edge of the broken stones, leaping rather skillfully across the gap and landing in a crouching position on the other side. She held back a chuckle and simply grinned smugly as she drew her sword and donned her shield, preparing herself for whatever challenges may lie ahead.

She moved silently down the corridor, listening for any sign of unwanted company. Turning the corner she could see Loriel staring at a partially opened door, ready for combat. Artanis could hear what sounded like muffled Orc voices. She pressed her back against the wall, moving more quickly down the hall. She paused momentarily when the door closed again and Loriel moved on with Moonshadow. She waited, a ruthless grin forming upon her lips.

Thank you, Loriel,” she thought, “for leaving them to me.”

Artanis decided she would stay just behind Loriel, dispatching any creatures she passed by. In this way, Loriel could freely search for the woman and child. She hated the idea of leaving any enemies behind her, giving them the opportunity to sneak up on her. So she would kill them as they went, and thus, should any kind of alarm be sent out, there would be none left to answer the call. (at least none where they’ve already been)

Once Loriel had moved down the hall a ways, Artanis moved forward once more, making her way to the closed door. She listened for a few moments, to hear what lied beyond. She could smell the scent of cooking flesh. She did not feel an appetite for it, as she could only assume just what kind of flesh it was. After a moment she was sure there were not more creatures than she could handle. With her sword in one hand, and her shield ready in the other, she kicked open the door, an almost blood thirsty look on her face. “Bring it on!” she hissed in a deadly tone even as she slashed at the nearest foe.

(this is, of course, provided she also hears that there are only three…if she doesn’t I’ll edit and do something different)
