What's the deal with watches? They don't need to set up watches, they need to go rescue the family immediately. Every second they waste could mean the death of any one of them, or worse for the woman.

The radiance of the sun rising over the horizon, filled Sariana with awe and amazement at the wonder that was the world in which she lived. The expansive meadow’s lush green sea of tall wild-grass was flowing in the cool morning breeze all around her as she danced happily, laughing with the greatest love she had ever known; Sarita, her four year old daughter. They tumbled to the ground, her daughter in her arms and laid there, entirely hidden within the grass, for a few moments; each of them trying to catch their breath. Her baby girl was laying on top of her, listening to her heart beat when she suddenly raised her head to look at her mother, and cried out, “Mommy?!”

Sariana looked down at her daughter with concern over the tone in Sarita’s voice; a tone of fear, pain, and confusion. What she saw when she looked down filled her with horror. Her beautiful little girl’s brown eyes were dull, her brown hair was suddenly flat and stringy, her skin had a sickly hue growing more pronounced by the second. Right before her eyes her daughter was wasting away faster and faster, until nothing remained but her withered corpse.

Sariana jerked up in bed screaming and clawing at her chest, crying at the loss of her daughter. After a few seconds she realized she was not in that beautiful field at sunrise, and never had been. It was all her imagination; a dream that never was, and never would be. Not for her. The world had long ago been stripped of all natural substances, crops, plants, live stock, and other animals. There was no food to be found anywhere.

After remembering the here and now, Sariana let herself cry, sitting on her bed hugging her knees to her chest, her head resting on her knees, her body trembling. She’d been a fool to have ever hoped life would get better. She should never have married Alexander, and she certainly should never have allowed herself to have a child. Not in this damnable existence. She had been forced to watch as first her husband, then her daughter slowly wasted away. She whispered into the black night, “Sarita, Sarita, my baby girl..Mommy loves you, baby….my Sarita…”

Suddenly she sprang out of bed and ran into her training room where she spent the next several hours expelling all her rage and pain with a furious passion that did not let up even as the sun slowly made its way over the horizon.

Suddenly she heard a man’s voice demanding her attention. She spun around, her hands gripping her tonfas so tightly that her hands were nearly drained of all color. “WHAT?!” She glowered at the man who had dared to intrude upon her time of release. Slowly the realization sunk in that this man appeared to be of the king’s men. Sariana took a deep calming breath and exhaled slowly.

“My apologies, Sir. How may I help you?”

He quickly explained that he had heard her boisterous training, and that the King had sent his messengers out to find the greatest men and women left, and that they were to report to his majesty immediately. She quirked an eyebrow at the man and nodded, “I’ll be there forthwith.”

She watched the King’s messenger leave, with a stunned expression on her face. Then she ran to clean up as best she could, grabbed her tonfas and placed them in her self-made holsters, one strapped to each thigh; then grabbed her locket off the make-shift night stand. She paused for the briefest of moments, softly caressing the locket with her thumb, before putting the necklace on, and leaving her place of residence to answer the King’s call. “What could this possibly be regarding?”

Leanderia stopped mid-stride when she saw The Elf dispose of the threat to Blue Eyes. A quick scan of the ensueing skirmish, as it were, revealed that only one bandit remained standing. She ran directly at his back (as he was facing away from her) and the second she was close enough, she swung the borrowed blade in a swift and confident arc down the side of his face effectively ridding him of his left ear. Without so much as a blink, she brought the blade around, just as the bandit was spinning around to see who had attacked him, and she slashed the man’s neck clean open.

Her defeated foe fell to the ground gripping his neck in vain and died as his life’s blood flowed through his own fingers. Leanderia quickly looked around, to make sure the threat was over, before looking back down at the scum who was now reduced to a mere useless corpse, and spat on him. She turned away from him then and looked at the four men who had helped her.

Standing before the group is a 5’1” woman, about 130lbs, with hair as black as night, which is pulled back and up into a rather disheveled bun at the moment. Her eyes are the color of the purest amber; her ivory skin has been tinted a soft golden brown by the sun.

She wears a simple breastplate, which her mentor had paid the blacksmith to fit to her upper body’s voluptuous frame. She wears black deer-skin leggings which hug the shape of her legs snuggly. On her feet she wears black leather boots which conform to her shapely legs up to the top of her calves.

At her waist is a black leather belt with a silver buckle and an empty clasp on her right side, strapped to each thigh are the empty sheaths for her daggers, and across her back rests her sword’s empty sheath.

"I want to thank you for your assistance in dispatching these roughians. Most assuredly, I could not have done so without your help. I fear, however, that I must again plead with you for further assistance. You see, these were only a mere four men of the 12 that captured me and the couple I was traveling with. They have them still as well as their child who is not more than a few months old. They are vile men without so much as a meager wisp of a moral compass and will surely cause them grave harm; if they have not already done so. Please, I beg of you, aid me in my attempt to free them of these filthy creatures.”

((after that group conversation, if any))

She looks down at the strange blade she still holds in her hand, and wipes it clean of the blood as she moves over to the blue-eyed man. ”I thank you most sincerely for the use of your weapon, and for freeing me of my bonds. I must say it is quite an unusual weapon, the likes of which I’ve never before seen. What is it called, please?”

((after the conversation with the blue-eyed man: ))

Leanderia looks around at the bodies and realizes that she must acquire some weapons without disarming any of the others if she is to fight the rest of the bandits to free the couple. She begins searching the bodies to determine which weapons would be best suited to her abilities. She grabs the short sword first, testing its weight and balance. Then she checks the rest of the bodies. She comes to the fallen elf last, and sees that the other elf is doing something with the body.

Leanderia approaches the elf, and solemnly asks if she may borrow the dagger and the sword. After he hands her the weapons, she thanks him. Leanderia leaves the elf to his task and moves away to check out the dagger, then slides it into the empty sheath still hugging her upper thigh where her own daggers rested until the bandits took them from her. Turning her attention to the scimitar she inspects the blade curiously, marveling at it almost as much as she had at the borrowed blade from the blue-eyed man. She glances over at him briefly, her curiosity is plain to see as she watches him for a moment before looking away and back at the weapons in her grasp. She tests its weight and balance, much as she had done with the short sword, and nods to herself. “These will do.”

“I trust no one will object to my borrowing these weapons, seeing as how the disgusting filth on the ground will no longer require their use. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, my weapons have all been taken from me. I had no time to search for them before I was forced to run after kicking one of the men unconscious for making inappropriate advances on me. I may not be a Lady, but I am still a lady, thank you very much."

So, Skye, Takley, Tuned_Out, Loki, and myself were all in chat, talkin', chatting, and just generally goofing off -- as per our usual chat content -- when the topic of rainbows came up. The discussion stated that ninjas and porcupines were better than rainbows because they give everyone kittens.

It was at this point in the conversation that something major began to brew. Tuned_Out made the most innocent comment that he wanted a kitten. It was an instant snow-ball effect, as I, DarkAutumn, gave TO a kitten, seamingly grabbed out of thin air. When deciding what to name this new feline, TO again changed the course of events when stating he was like Chessic and could appear and disapear at will.

So we decided to name him Chess -- or Chessy as a nick-name.

Thus the (future) legend was born!

This kitty has inspired The Kitty Cafe, and in the far left back corner is his own personal "Kitty Corner" with all his kitty toys. We also decided he would have an underground tunnel connecting all the Inn Chats so he could be with us no matter where in the RDI world we are at.

So it is, and so shall it ever be!

((I know this post is entirely silly and rediculous! But we thought it'd be hilareous to post this tid bit of info for Chessic's sake. HAHA))

Mere seconds after they entered the clearing, the ragged roughians spotted Leanderia. Something of a smug feeling washed over her, and a menacing smile slowly spread across her full lips as she stood armed and ready to fight, rather than bound and helpless.

Suddenly the elf sprang into action throwing his knife at one of the bandits; then all hell broke loose! Leandearia stood stunned for a brief moment as she tried to digest what was happening around her. Various flying weapons were meeting their marks, but one, she noticed, did not.

She watched horrified as the man whom the arrow just missed made his way toward the man with the blue eyes. Her grip tightened around his weapon and she sprang into action. She prayed that her aim would be true and that her mentor’s teachings would not be in vain, as she rushed to help the man who appeared practically defenseless because of her.

Suddenly freed from her bonds, Leanderia looks up at the man who had chosen to help her. She thought it was strange that his entire face was covered, save his eyes. The most beautiful blue eyes she’d ever seen, and for the briefest of moments she couldn't look away.

The sound of the four men entering the clearing breaks her daze. Blinking, she realizes he is offering her the use of his strangely curved weapon. Without a second thought, she accepts his offer and readies herself to fight these men. “May Malic’s training serve me better this time around!”

Topic: Forgotten Realms: Edge of Darkness
Subject: The idiot "fighter" of the group has arrived, running for her life!

The aroma of baking bread wafted through the air to Leanderia where she sat quietly watching, for the last time, as the knights sparred and dueled in their daily morning training. Ever since she could remember, much to her mother’s dismay, she had always been intrigued and excited to watch the knights with their weapons and shields, honing their skills.

Leanderia had learned much over the last 14 years. Every chance she could manage to get away, she would sneak off to watch the training. It was time, she knew, to go out into the world and make her mark. She hadn’t the first clue how she would do it, but she knew it had to be done. She just wasn’t the sort of woman to sit idly with needlework.“Cooking?”, she thought, “HA! I pitty the man who tries to eat my cooking!” She chuckled quietly to herself as she slipped out of her hiding place and made her way to the kitchens to see her father. Today was the day.

And so it was that Leanderia left home for the first time in all her 20 years and went in search of adventure. She felt liberated, free, and secure enough with the weapons she’d managed to acquire over the years. Malic, her oldest friend and mentor, had encouraged her interest in weaponry and the skill of fighting. He had been a vital part in her weapon acquisitions.

Two days into her journey to she knew not where, Leanderia came across a sweet young couple with a baby. They didn’t seem very interested in telling her their reasons for being on the road, but she was happy for the company, so she didn’t push the issue.

As they walked along their way, talking about everything and nothing at all, they were suddenly surrounded by 12 rather gruff looking men. Leanderia quickly pulled her sword as she looked wide-eyed and somewhat scared at the bandits. This was it, her first real fight, and she was fighting the urge to tuck tail and run for her life! She knew she couldn’t do that, though, not with these defenseless people in need of her help.

So, as the foul-smelling bandits closed in on them, she let out what she hoped was a fierce battle cry, and charged. She managed to get her blade through one of the group, before she was suddenly set upon, and before she realized what was happening, she was freed of all her weapons, and her hands were bound tightly in front of her.

”Blast! Thank the gods that Malic didn’t see that!” Leanderia looked over at the bound couple, and worried about how she would get them all out of this predicament.

Soon thereafter, she found herself sitting alone in a tent back at the bandit’s camp. ”I can’t believe I let this happen!” she thought, ”After all the training Malic gave me! There has to be a way out of this.” She looked down at her bound hands as she tried futilely to loosen the bonds. ”Blast!”

Just then, a guard entered the tent in which they held her captive. He was especially ugly with his toothless sneer, a gaping hole where once there was an eye, "He didn't even bother to wear an eye patch!", and his leathery skin seemed to crack with every movement of his features. He rubbed a hand over his nearly hairless scalp, and his tongue slithered out to snake over his lips as he approached her.

She may have been young and inexperienced in the ways of men and women, but she knew what this retch was about. Leanderia remembered all too well the unpleasant scene she had happened upon in her younger years, and knew she wanted no part of that!

Her eyes narrowed as he grew closer, her fear was far surpassed by her anger at what this man had in mind to do. She was ready for him. Malic had been a wise mentor. Wise enough to teach her how to defend against such unwanted advances! With a silent prayer of thanks, she reared back and kicked both legs out together with all the force in her strong legs, landing her feet right in the man’s groin.
He went down instantly. She jumped up and, in her anger, slammed a booted foot right into his disgusting mouth, effectively ridding him the few remaining teeth he still had, and rendering him unconscious to boot.

She didn’t know where they had placed her weapons, but at this point she knew she didn’t have time to find out. She could hear someone approaching and had to get out quickly! She searched the man for a knife to take with her, to cut the ropes around her wrists the first chance she got. She had to get out of there and figure out a way to rescue the family she had met only a few short hours ago. She could not just leave them there at the mercy of these scoundrels! Especially not after what one of them just tried to do to her!

She scurried under the back end of the tent, and ran like hell into the woods. It didn’t take long before she heard several men were in pursuit. She didn’t know how many there were, but she knew she had to elude them if there were to be any chance of helping that family.

Suddenly she saw a wisp of smoke rising toward the night sky. ”A camp!” She looked behind her to try and see how close her pursuers were. ”Oh, please let there be help in this camp!” she thought frantically as she ran straight for the smoke.

Soon she could see the light through the trees, and as she broke into the clearing there was a large log laying across her path. She jumped, all too late, and landed flat on her face. She stumbled awkwardly to her feet, looking almost like a mad woman.

Shoving an onyx curl out of her face, showing her bound hands in the process, she quickly looked the group over, as she pleaded urgently, “Please help me!"

When no one moved to help her right away, she felt more urgency as her fear grew for what may happen to the couple and their baby back at the bandit's camp, she ran toward the group as she tried pleading with them again, "They captured us and the others need help! They have a ba—“

"Get back here you filthy dog-lover, I'll flay your skin for killin' Dusty! You'll make a great pet for one a' the bosses!"

Leanderia looks toward the sound of her pursuers, and desperately looks back to the group, hoping against hope that someone will free her hands...

((OOC: Ok, Hopefully someone in the group will take pitty on her and cut her loose, so that she can be of assistance in the imminent fight.))

Topic: ~Edge of Darkness~ Q&A
Subject: Just my two cents re:combat order

In previous games I've had the pleasure of participating in, I have found that it works very well for everyone to post their intent, then the DM rolls and does the update on the outcome of everyone's actions. In this way, the first person to post gets the first action, and everyone else past that can build on each other's posts and actions. Make sense?

So if one guy slashes at ... say an orc that is attacking, and he has a giant two headed beast with him then I could come in at attack the beast, since the orc is already attacked....kind of a lame example, but I hope you get the point. We can build up our own posts off of other people's posts. I do that a lot. Otherwise the game is rather choppy, rather than characters working together for a common story...

Does that make sense? Or did I botch the entire explanation attempt?

((Keeping in mind I posted this before reading the rest of the posts regarding this matter, so forgive me if this has already been decided on, or already been said. I just thought I'd put my opinion in the pot...>.>))

The RDInn is the best place ever. To even hint at the idea that Olan or any of the staff would ever try to make money off other people's posts is beyond ludicrous!

Olan doesn't even charge us! We have absolutely free reign of the chat rooms and forums to post and visit as much as we want 24/7 if we so choose. And it's entirely free! It's not free for Olan, though. He has to pay for keeping this site and the outrageously large band-with(I assume) going for OUR FREE use!

Olan making money off us?! Pish posh, I say! He SPENDS money FOR us!!

It has certainly been quite a while since I have posted here. My life has had so many twists and turns over the last few years. It certainly has been a crazy ride.

I read Olan's post "Write for the Inn!" and was taken aback to see the Inn was founded in 2000. It just feels that it's been part of my life for so much longer than that! I've been a member of the Inn since around...Let's see, my youngest son was around six months old, so my guess would be around Feb of 2004 is when I found the Inn.

For a long time it was a HUGE part of my life. It was my escape when I needed to clear my head, and the absolute perfect outlet for my creative writing. I love to write!

My very first RPG was Admiral's game, If I'm not mistaken. I was Jotara the little farrie. That was such a fun game. I'll never forget it.

Anyway, to any friends who may have noticed my absence; I just want ya'll to know I haven't forgotten you! I have moved around so often, and my net access has been so sporadic that I could not in good conscience join any RP's, 'cause I knew I'd wind up leavin' ya'll hanging, and that just wouldn't be fair to the players or GM.

Well, in the last year (Starting in August 2010) I started going to Del Mar College. I'm studying to be a Court Reporter! As of July 7th I passed my 100wpm speed. This fall I'll be starting my second year, and hope to get all the passes I need at the 225 speed so that hopefully I'll start working before the end of next year. I'm very excited about this.

For the duration of my schooling, I'll be living with my parents, which means I have full-time net access for the next year and a half at least. As such, I would love to give a try at playing a game or two. I would be able to give consistent updates several times a week.

I'm so glad the Inn is still here! A week or so ago I tried visiting the Inn and it kept telling me it was an invalid URL. I was almost devastated! (Almost because someone informed me it was just temporarily down)
