Subject: Now or never!

Artanis gasped as she watched the fireball hit Loriel square in the chest. She looked up and saw that Kas was now also in the room, then turned back to the deranged man. The image of the room behind her being engulfed in flames, which were moving ever closer, could not be erased from her mind. Something had to be done, and it had to be done now.

It was now or never. Taking a deep breath, and hoping against hope that this worked, Artanis suddenly, and without warning, rushed the man at a slight angle. Her intent was to either knock him down or slam him against the wall, and grab the child out of his arms. IF she succeeds she will immediately jump through the window and onto the roof, at which point she will look for a way down. She knows there’s no going back the way they came.

Subject: Darlthenia

As the group conversed, Darlthenia simply listened, while absentmindedly sliding her fingers through Tristan’s hair, and softly raking her nails down the back of his neck. She didn’t have much to say about the situation or why she was taking part in the effort to find out what was going on with the disappearances.

Still sitting in Tristan’s lap, she heard his words, “It would seem that the gods have quite an interest in the disappearance of society’s dregs, as well,” and, “A priest of Father Time and a sword mistress of the First of the Elves,”

Darlthenia glanced over at the couple he spoke of, raising an eyebrow at what she saw. Then Tristan looked back at her and her breath caught in her chest, and she simply smiled, looking into his eyes even as he glanced at the rest of the group and said, “Both useful and, at the same time, curious…”

“Yes, most curious indeed.” Darlthenia agreed.

And so the night went on, bringing with it two more curious members to the group of would-be “heroes”. Two bards. “Interesting. This should make for some good entertainment while out and about.”

As the night wound down, Needlemire closed down the inn, and it was time for all to head to bed. “If you’ll not mind the memories of it, Darli-luv,” she noted the grin on her beloved’s face after Needlemire had suggested the group pair up in the provided rooms, “I’d be happy to share a room with you. We’ve got lost time to recapture, after all.”

Darlthenia could not help but to give Tristan her most dazzling smile as she nodded. She leaned close to him, whispering in his ear, “Just try and stop me.” She laughed softly as she slid off his lap and held out her hand for his, before turning and with a wave goodnight to the Innkeeper, she made her way towards the stairs with Tristan.

“It’s possible that this will be the last night in some time that we all enjoy a true bed.”

She laughed and turned to face him as she took a few steps backwards, “Well then, let’s make the most of it while we can.” With that she winked at him, and turned back around and quickened the pace.

-----
Next Morning:

Darlthenia slowly floated back down to consciousness, drifting out of the first good dream she’d had in close to 10 years. She could feel the gentle touch on her hair, and the tender caress across her cheek as Tristan’s oh so longed for voice filtered into her ears. “The sun is up, Darli,” she smiled softly as she felt his lips press against her forhead, “and so should we be. The others may likely leave without us.”

Darlthenia opened her green eyes and looked up into the golden orbs that had haunted her dreams for so long. She caressed his beloved face, and then leaned up and pressed her lips to his tenderly. Then she smiled, “Good morning.”

She lay in the bed, watching him dress for a moment, before she reluctantly rose from the bed herself and got ready to face the day, humming softly to herself as she did so.

-----

Downstairs:

After breakfast the group headed outside where they encountered the woman, Lyra, who gave them a bird and evasive answers to the questions asked. Darlthenia was skeptical. She didn’t believe this woman knew as little as she claimed. She kept her thoughts to herself, however, and made her way to the stables to get her own horse ready to go.

Once mounted and ready, Darlthenia moved with the group out towards the mountains, where she came upon Vaskar singing a tune. She smiled and looked over at Tristan at the bard’s words of two lovers having found each other.

She didn’t know exactly what lay ahead, or what obstacles they would have to overcome to fulfill this “mission”, but she knew one thing for certain. She had her Tristan back, and together they would get through this, and would never be separated again.

Subject: Do not be discouraged!

"Mwa ha!, you are either very brave or very foolish." Came the mocking words of the man who held the baby captive. "My wants for the baby, are hardly your concern, and as for the house? Well, it separated you and your friends did it not? I'd imagine the rest of them are equally enjoying the hospitality of me compatriots at this very moment."

“I’m neither brave, nor foolish. I just want the baby to be safe and back in her Mother’s arms where she belongs.” She didn’t have time to stop and consider the meaning of the man’s words regarding having separated her and her friends, or about the others enjoying the “hospitality” of this man’s compatriots. She only hoped she would have time later to ponder the meaning of his words.

Artanis’ eyes looked at the bundle in the man’s arms that was the baby as she began to wail again. She looked behind her as the flames grew, engulfing that part of the attic, effectively trapping her, and the baby, the heat growing more intense by the second. Then her eyes snapped back around to look at the man’s face as he taunted:

"What does one do when caught between the frying pan and the oven hmmm?" The look on his face practically dared her to move closer.

Without a second thought, Artanis did just that. She stepped closer still. She didn't know exactly how she would do it, she only knew she had to get Maribelle away from him, and out of this burning inferno, or die trying. She would not walk away without the baby. Not this time.

Fire flew past her almost before she realized it had even been hurled in her direction. The items being stored up there were now ablaze, filling the attic with light. The baby’s cries ‘caused her head to whip about to look in the direction of the man holding the child. Her heart stopped in her chest as she gaped at the man who appeared to be engulfed in a strange sort of blue flame. Neither the man, nor the child seemed in any pain, and as such, Artanis breathed a momentary sigh of relief for that small favor.

“Glad you ladies could join me for this little bonfire Hehehe! Come, dance with me and my fiery little friends ha ha!”

Artanis climbed the rest of the way into the attic, stepping away from the entrance, and closer to where the man held the baby. “What do you want with the child? Why are you burning this house down?” Even as she spoke she took her shield from her back and held it before her. She also drew her sword.

”Just hand me the baby.” As she said this she slowly stepped closer to the figure, her heart beating faster with each step. All she knew was she had to get the baby away from this deranged man, and find a way out of the house. The child must be saved.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help myself. I just had to give my two cents and say how incredibly beautiful these children are. That red hair, and those eyes. I agree with Ryst....incredibly beautiful eyes.

Subject: Cat found, Baby to go!

Artanis crashed through the door, stumbling as she went. A quick glance around the almost empty room told her the child would not be found in there. A frustrated sound, almost like a growl, echoed in the room as Artanis turned and ran back into the hallway. She knew time was running out, and she had none to waste. Scanning the hallway again, her gaze fell upon the ladder. Her eyes followed it upward, and almost before the thought had formed fully in her head, she was practically running up the ladder and into the attic.

As soon as she entered the attic she scanned the room thoroughly, fighting hard to keep the panic at bay. The need to get the baby out of this house consumed her. She could think of nothing else. "I have the cat." Barely even filtered through her focused mind.

Gasping in shock, Artanis turns to leave the room, but is too slow. Suddenly, not only is her face on fire, but she can’t see a damned thing! She grabs at the thing on her face, effectively burning her hand, and chunks it at the window. “Hmph! Maybe I’ll get lucky for once and it’ll fall in a trough full of water!” she thinks as she runs out of the room while blinking rapidly trying to see where she is going.

Once outside of the room, she feels slightly disoriented. “MARIBELLE” She screams, “WHERE ARE YOU?!” Her hope at finding the baby almost lost, she notices, through blurred vision, that there are a couple other doors in the hallway. She runs to the first one, throwing all her weight against it while turning the handle at the same time to get the door open.

Without bothering to hear the rest of the woman’s words regarding the cat, Artanis ran straight into the house and up the stairs. She ran towards the back of the upstairs area, following the baby’s cries. She could feel the heat of the fire trying to envelope her, but she refused to acknowledge it. The only thing on her mind was getting to that baby.

She dodged, jumped over, stooped beneath, and or pushed out of her path, anything that may have been in her way until she found the baby. When, and if, she was able to do so, she carefully, but quickly snatched up the baby from wherever she was and held her close to her beneath her cloak. Once the baby was secure in her arms, she turned and ran back toward the stairs to exit the house, coughing as she went.

Subject: Fire? So not good!

Artanis was about halfway up the stairs on her way to bed, when a woman burst through the door screaming about her house being on fire, and two people still being inside. One was a baby.

Glad she was dressed for the task, Artanis jumped over the side of the stairs, landing in a crouch and springing forward at a run toward the front door. She followed Kas, Loriel and the woman into the night and toward the house. She could see the flames beating angrily against the windows as they tried to consume everything in their path. Knowing she could not run into the house dry as she was, she followed suit and stopped at a water trough only long enough to dip her entire body in the water, cloak included, before jumping out and sprinting to catch up with the rest.

As they drew ever closer to the burning building, Artanis yelled her question to the woman, “In which rooms are the baby and Mr. Wuggles?” She looked back at the house as she continued, “How do I get to the rooms? How old is the child and what is his/her name?”

Even as she spoke, Artanis pulled her hood up over her head, and searched for a way into the building to go after the child first, then the man once the child was safely out.

Subject: Overdue Post

(Backposting)
“Thank you, all three of you for saving my life. I am indebted to all of you, and if it takes my life to do it, I will repay my debt.”

Artanis received no response to her pledge. Feeling that, despite the fact that they had saved her, they were probably upset with her for acting so rashly and almost getting herself killed, and as such, causing Loriel, Kas, and Xaris to go out of their way to save her. She felt deeply ashamed and could do nothing but find a spot to sleep.

Sleep came quickly enough, but it was a fitful sleep. She was uncomfortable, and there was no way she could lay that didn’t hurt. On top of this, she woke every few minutes to shift as carefully as possible, not wanting to damage the dress Elesia had given her.

Much too quickly, the sun crept out of its hiding place bathing the land in its colorful glory. Artanis’ eyes fluttered open, and she looked around. Aelistae was there with a kind smile as she said:

“I altered the straps slightly, on the armor we took from Kas’ battle-captive. I think it should fit you, if you wish to try it,” she added, handing over the hauberk and leggings of chain mail armor.

Artanis gratefully accepted the armor. “I don’t know how to thank you, Aelistae. You are so kind to me.” Without thinking, she hugged Aelistae, then realized she didn’t hurt anymore. She looked at Aelistae with wide eyes and hugged her tight again, whispering, “Thank you.”

With a huge smile on her face, Artanis rushed off to the privacy of the cave, chain mail in hand, picking up the extra set of clothes along the way. Carefully removing the dress and folding it neatly, Artanis quickly donned the clothes and armor. She stretched this way and that, testing the fit and feel of the “new” items.

As Artanis emerged from the cave, ready to show Aelistae how well the items fit and to thank her, she stopped in her tracks. She did not hear the full conversation, but came in on the tail end of it. Kas was telling the group that they were not a team by a long shot.

Artanis placed the gown in her pack. She decided to keep her mouth shut and stay out of it. As the confrontation finally died out, she made her way over to Aelistae. She spread out her arms and turned a full circle. “It fits perfectly. Thank you so much.” Then she hugged Aelistae again. (hope that’s ok Ginafae  )

(Jumping ahead to the tavern)

After the rooms and baths were paid for, Artanis decided to find a shop that sold hygiene items. She purchased soap, shampoo, and a pouch of bath petals. There was a scent of jasmine in all three items. She also searched out and purchased a simple hat.((Just something like a winter hat, only not so warm, that she can pull down over her head))

Her new items in hand, Artanis went back to the Inn. She went to the bar, requesting that a hot bath be brought up to her room. She glanced briefly at the group as they made a commotion. Apparently Xaris had won some money. She smiled, happy for him, but was not deterred from her goal. The bath ordered, she went to her room.

Once the bath had been brought up and filled, she thanked those who brought it up to her, and locked the door behind them. Artanis undressed and stood next to the tub, she sprinkled a bit of the bath petals into the water, and inhaled deeply as the intoxicating scent wafted up to greet her senses. Artanis stepped into the bath, sinking slowly down into the water until it was lapping gently at her chin. She closed her eyes and sighed heavily.

After relaxing in the steaming water for a while, Artanis began to scrub her body thoroughly. She went to wash her hair, purely out of habit, but had to stop herself. She looked at the bottle of shampoo and frowned, “Well, that was a waste of money.” She shook her head and finished up. She got out of the bath and decided to lay down for a little while.

After getting a couple hours of sleep, Artanis awoke. She dressed quickly, and left her room. She pulled her new cap down over her scalp as she closed the door behind her. She went downstairs and saw the group sitting at a table. As she made her way to their table, she wondered briefly if she should have worn the dress rather than the clothes of a man that didn’t fit her well. She shrugged, and figured these clothes were better matched to the bald head beneath the cap than the elegant dress was.

She greeted everyone and pulled up a chair. She sat quietly next to Aelistae.

The "large" shirts are more like mediums. It is much too small for me. There are medium size shirts I can wear, larges are more comfortable, but I would have to order an XL for it to fit me like a medium shirt would.

So what do I do with this shirt? I can't wear it.

and the second shirt I bought for my friend, he won't be able to wear it either.

Ok, keep in mind I don't know as much as everyone else here about the technicalities of gaming..

What does "Rules Lawyer" mean?

And is there a possibility of having a shirt along the lines of "Neutral Good" or something like that? I was thinking of getting one of them shirts, but in reality, Chaotic Evil isn't me, Lawful Good isn't either (or so I'm told). I was informed I am more of a Neutral Good.

So...??

personally I agree with Ginafae. And after thinking about it, and speaking with a couple people about it, I think that maybe I can handle paying off the shield little by little. Maybe I can have half of all my share of monies go towards paying for the shield, and half to my purse.

What do you think, Kaelyn? Would that work?

No, not gonna bid anything on that shield. I can't afford it and you know it.

I'll just find and buy a regular ol' shield when I get the chance.

Don't get me wrong, I DO want the shield. But I can't afford it and I'm not into being in debt, in game or otherwise.
