Personal Bio:
Jeffery Mueller was the 24th century’s equivalent of the nerdy, video-gaming, book reading, computer geek with a genius level IQ. Outside of the sims he often occupied his time with, he probably never had a violent confrontation with anyone or anything in his young life. Both his awkwardness and his brilliance were easily noticeable in the education arena where he excelled in academics but floundered when it came to socializing. He had friends, of course, but they too were often of the “dorky, outcast” set. Mueller flew threw primary education and entered MIT at the tender young age of 14 where he, again, excelled writing several noteworthy articles regarding the enhancement and implementation of tactical simulation programs, and maximizing efficiency of data flow and processing by implementing neural net type solutions. Considering where his educational pursuits (and inherent love of the tactical sim and fantasies of participating in “real-life” starship battles) had led him, so far, Starfleet Academy seemed to be the next logical step. True to form, Mueller excelled at the Academy just as he had in all of his other academic pursuits and even carried a course-load that his counselors questioned. Of course, the awkwardness followed him, too.

He graduated from Starfleet Academy at the top of his class, carrying a near perfect GPA and earning several awards and honors through the course of his time there. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the TAC department aboard Starbase 375. He proved to be a competent, reliable, and quick thinking addition to the team (even if he did tend to run late reporting for duty on a fairly regular basis) and was regularly praised if not officially commended for being a “tactical genius.” It was during his tour on SB375 that Jeff finally developed an almost normal social life. Unfortunately, it was with a crewman first class in his department and passion ended up getting the better of both of them. They were caught doing the “Risa Mambo” in a storage area when they should have been at their posts. Both Mueller and Crewman Bledsoe were reprimanded.

As part of his punishment, Ensign Mueller was assigned additional (and purposefully menial) duties in Security, including custodial duties in the detention blocks. It was during this time that Mueller met and befriended Jack MacTavish – who was incarcerated at the time for assaulting an officer, disobeying orders, and mistreatment of a detainee. The two had a rather strange relationship from the on-set, often picking on and/or belittling one another, but, over time, the friendship served to lessen Mueller’s social fumbling. Although they rarely socialized outside of their TAC shifts after Jack was released from the brig, the two remained friends and could occasionally be seen having a drink in the lounge or sparring with one another in the gym.

The two last saw each other just days before MacTavish left for his assignment aboard the USS Warden and, other than the very occasional and very brief message, have had very little contact since that time. When Jack learned that he was to be assigned as CTO aboard the Discovery he looked up Mueller’s file and discovered that his tour aboard SB 375 was also coming to an end and sent the installation’s CO a request that Mueller’s next post also be aboard the galaxy-class vessel.
