Being on slow-@$$'d dial-up speeds, I have noticed a serious slowdown in the loading of the pages for me since the addition of the affiliate buttons.

I figure it's something I'll have to live with ...

Not a negative, just an observation prolly not noticed by those not living in caves in the boonies ...

...once you load the buttons once, it shouldn't slow your page one bit. Your computer should load a cached version of them, rather than download them every time. Not to mention that the total file size for the four buttons is a "whopping" 9k. Even if your connection is as bad as my old dialup was (where I was lucky to get 20k on a good day), that should still be less than a second's worth of additional time.

that I periodically clear my temp I-net files (cache) to keep my boot speed as low as possible. Which means I go back to square one when I do so ...

As I said, something I'll have to live with (as a trade-off). I can live with it for the entertainment value.

I have noticed the Inn go slow a few times of late, though. Gonna have to look at the DB again.

Meh, if you want to visit them, visit them. If not, don't.

This is NOT a paid exchange. This is a way for like-minded sites to increase their traffic, since we all appeal to the same basic audience.

RPG Life has our button up. The others don't yet, but will - you've got to realize that, as the new guy, we have to put ours up first.

No offense meant. I didn't mean to indicate impatience or unequal "fair trade". But my wording does seem to indicate that.

I didn't take it that way at all - just wanted to clarify that I wasn't surprised they don't all have our button up yet.

As of this morning, two of the four are linking back to us. The other two will, but are run by webmasters like me, wh are probably busy and may not make site updates every day.

BTW, Utan, I didn't mean to sound dismissive of your slowdown experience - I have lived with hellishly slow dialup, so I *do* get it. My point was more than the buttons literally are no more than 1 second of load time. and even if you clear your cache daily, your computer will only add that second the first time you visit the site. The big slowdown that you saw was certainly due to other issues. I have seen the Inn take 10+ seconds to load across a T-1 connection several times in the past week or so... which points to a database issue.

I noticed on one of the other sites... when you highlight our little link box (you picked the tough to read one too!) it says something like "come join us and play rg" or some such. You left out a p.
