Star Trek: Discovery - the relaunch

Currently, all department head positions have been filled. However, you are always welcome to apply as a regular member - officer or enlisted - in any department.
After a lot of consideration and soul searching, I have decided to relaunch Star Trek: Discovery. I am well aware that we will have to recast some roles - for instance, we are losing the ultra-talented Alacrity, but with my full blessing - he will be brining back a fantastic game of his own, and does not wish to take away from both by not devoting enough time to either.

FYI, the Discovery is a Galaxy Class vessel, set in 2366 (approx season 3 of TNG). This is pre-dominion war, pre-borg.

To cover the player turnover and the gap since we last played, I will advance game time significantly - probaby to the tune of six to nine months. I will do a post to cover the old mission, however, to that you can have closure as to what happened.

Returning payers, please post your interest here!

So! The long and the short of it is that I'm looking for dedicated players. Know that Trek is free form, but not ruleless - I (and the command staff) tend to set the stage with major plot points; you are free to play your character however you wish (within reason). Need to create some NPC crewmembers to help your department? Great! Be our guest!

You must be able to post no less than weekly... Ideally, you'll post more often that that. Knwledge of trek is a good idea, though you need not be a sick fanboy to play.

Please understand that this is a wrting intensive game. Posts like "Engineer Steve acknowledges his orders and goes about maintenance duties." will not cut it. SHORT posts tend to be three paragraphs; typical posts can be much longer, depending on what is going on. Ideally, you'll be able to carry some of the story yourself; if no one is posting anything for your character to do, take some initiative and set your own scene!

Be prepared to create a rather extensive character background, including service history and such (see http://rdcconline.com/trek/roster.php?simid=1 for examples). I'll of course be glad to help you if you need it, but if its too much trouble to create a living character history, you probably would not enjoy the game itself.

So, what are you waiting for? Apply today!

Tuvar

Without school, I now have more time to devote and am able to make it up to library about daily so would be willing to retake role of Lt. Tuvar. Just let me know how char developed after my absence. Many things happened to cause my dropping the game to begin with which I am sure you were aware of. Still lurking and am willing to "...go where no man has gone before."

-- how am I to get an avatar, and do you have tuvar's bio somewhere.

Ach!

"Ye gotta be keddin' me, lad? Jus' as I'm enjoyin' me 'oliday an' 'avin' a wee bit o' me time, ye wanna go skippin' 'roond th' galaxy agin?!?!"

Shibby! I'm in.

Vesper, I've probably got all of Tuvar's stuff sitting around somewhere... I'll dig it up and send it your way. Tuvar didn't "develop" a whole lot in your absence, although, Brom picked her up and played her very well towards the end. Look for an e-mail from me this evening with your info.

Perhaps White has taken another crack at that command training in the downtime...

Trek

I'm not really a trekkie, but something inside of me just grabbed a hold of that ship's counselor idea and started reeling out idea after idea for a really messed-up and possibly incredibly fun character for the role. A fair few of my close friends are trekkies, which should allow me to work up a good background and history. I know I said I was short on time and not really into Trek, but with the apparent death of Remnants, and the impending possibility of a drastic reduction in very attractive young woman time, I'll have some free time and spare creativity to dedicate. As always, it takes me a disgusting amount of time to build a character, but Trek being what it is, it seems to me that it's fairly easy to add new characters when and where you like, what with the relative ease of personal travel, even over long distances.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong here, but a lack of solid grounding in the science and tech of Trek would not be horrifically limiting in this particular role. It's not like I'd likely have to take a hand in devolping alternate fules for a damaged engine or think of ways to bypass eney shield tachnology all the time, right? This position is about understanding thoughts and emotions, and even a few hundred years in the future, people are basically people, right? Jealousy, depression, anger, ambition, passion, fear... Some things are universal, yes?

counselor

You have seized on it perfectly, I think - a counselor would indeed not need any real working knowledge of trek tech - on the contrary, it could be a nice character device. We would love to have you!

Yay

The brutish Isaac, while still catching his breath over the whole vine snake episode, is looking forward to maintaining security post.

I do admit, many of the key plot points are a bit hazy in my memory bank. Is there any chance that we have a back up of the away mission posts... Eol?

To the BackupMobile!!!

Actually, yeah, I still have the greater majority of the original Discovery posts glued together in a Word document. I think I may have missed the last couple of posts but for the most part everything is still archived in Our Lady Discovery's databanks. If anyone wants a copy (or, Olan, if you'd rather I simply repost everything I have) just let me know and I'll wing it your way via Eol-Mail!

logs

Hey, I wouldn't mind reading through the old mission logs. Give me an idea of what's going on and what it's all about before blindly leap in to a universe I know very little about.

bringing back the crew...

Thanks to Captain Backup (aka Eol Fefalas, give the boy an applaud!), we have most of our personnel files intact, and I am uploading them now.

To view what's going up, please see http://rdcconline.com/trek/roster.php?simid=1
The menu is still wonky, but you can at least view the roster...

Note that I unfortunately do not have sheets for Raditz or Keely, though I will look through my old notes to see what I can find. Players, if you have something, let me know!

Missing bios...

I might still have those missing bios sitting around on my home PC somewhere. I'll be ducking out of the office here shortly and will scour my hard drives at home to see if I can come up with anything else.

backups

Fist off, I wanna say that Eol is my hero! You always go the extra mile, and we all love you for that.

I do have a backup of the character info for Raditz. However, I bought a new computer just before I moved, and so all of that information is on the old hard drive. I am in Colorado and the old computer is in storage back in Texas. There is a good chance that I won't see any of that until Christmas, but I do remember quite enough to suffice until then.

You do not wanna see me in a cape and tights!

Aw shucks... I'm a hero? P'shaw! You folks give me too much credit... I just do what I can to keep things smoooooooth.

Haven't had any luck finding the Raditz or Keely bios yet but I know that they're around somewhere. I did find a cargo bay full of other stuff, though... Duty rosters for TAC and Security, graphics, the Gavin III away team spreadsheet, a piece of toast that looks like it was made back in the 70s...
