Ullrich and party battle some ants

Ullrich watched in satisfaction as his fourth arrow sunk into the ant in row three. The ant sagged to the ground. Ullrich had never fought a giant ant before, but he had been around death enough to know it when he saw it. That was one ant the team would not have to worry about again.

But the feeling of satisfaction was short lived. Ullrich had targeted the ant in the third row because he didn’t want to waste his arrows – he had hoped the fireballs the mage Bumble Brew was shooting would take out some of the others. Sadly, a quick glance around proved that not to be the case. No ants had actually died from the fires. Still, the vast majority of them were at least wounded, which was a start in the right direction. He liked having a mage on his side.

Wham! The giant Dwarfs hammer slammed into another one of the front row ants, killing it. Indeed, it seemed the entire front row was now out of commission – about ¼ of the total ants were dead or dying. The survivors were about to close and the true fight would start, but it was a good start.

As Ullrich dropped his wonderful new bow behind himself and drew his two swords, his mind wandered back to when the ants had first entered the arena. Ullrich had stood in line with the teammates with whom he would be fighting for his life and marveled at the circumstances he found himself in. He stood in a giant arena, covered by some form of magical dome. He stood next to a giant dwarf with a magical hammer. He himself held a magic bow and magic sword – after having been magically “improved” by gifts from a “merchant.” He stood with a team of mixed races ready to confront an army of giant ants.

Who does that? Somehow his life had become the stuff of legend. Well, maybe not legend yet, a lot would have to go right for that to happen, but certainly the type of stuff from stories. Even as a child he doubted his mind could have come up with . . . this!

The crowd cheered and the half-orc announced the beginning of the dance as the ants emerged. At least with ants as the enemy in this bizarre battle Ullrich would not have to feel as guilty about killing other innocents. Intelligent they might be, but they were still bugs. Deadly bugs for certain, and that made the decision to fight an easy one. The ants appeared to have no qualms about killing him.

And so Ullrich lined up his first shot, wondering how well an ant’s hard exoskeleton might protect it from an arrow. He’d never had to consider the vulnerability of ants to arrows before.

As the ant at the end of row three sagged to the ground, Ullrich smiled – ants died from arrows just like everything else, and that was one ant the team would not have to worry about again.

Cleric #1 had no time to defend himself as Ant 1 and Ant 2 from row 2 attacked simultaneously, inflicting minimal and near maximum damage while Ants 1 and 2 from row 3 moved to his front and diagonal top right also inflicting minimal damage!

Ants 1, 2 and 3 from row 4 and Ant 1 from row 5 joined forces against Cleric #2, attacking with minimal damage from positions on his left, front, top right diagonal and right sides!

At the other end of the line Cleric #8 had better fortune as Ants 3, 4 and 5 from row 3 maneuvered themselves to attack from positions at his front, top right diagonal and right, but somehow he managed to elude their bites!

However, Cleric #7 was unable to elude the attacks from positions at his top left diagonal, front, top right diagonal and right by Ants 4 and 5 from row 5 and Ants 4 and 5 from row 4, although minimum damage from 3 and half damage from another was all they were able to inflict upon him!

Minimum damage was also all that Ants 2 and 3 from row 5 were able to inflict upon Cleric #3 from his front and top right diagonal positions!

Monks 4, 5 and 6 would have to react quickly while deciding which Ants to counter attack in an effort to help their Copper Cavern brothers!

As Ants 1 and 2 from row 2 maintained their positions and inflicted minimal damage, Ants 1, 2 and 3 from row 3 also moved into position against Monk #1, attacking from his front, top right diagonal and right side. Fortunately, the Ants from row 3 missed the Monk by a narrow margin!

At the other end of the line Monk #8 drew upon his inner strength to evade the attacks from Ants 3, 4 and 5 from row 2 that had maintained their positions before attacking!

Monk #7 suffered a maximum damage and minimum damage bite from Ants 4 and 5 from row 3 respectively! Those Ants had attacked from his top left diagonal and front positions!

However, his brother Monk #2 was able to evade the attacks from Ants 1, 2 and 3 from row 4 that had maneuvered themselves to try to bite him from his front, top right diagonal and right side positions!

Monk #6 also had similar good fortune as Ants 4 and 5 from row 4 moved into attack positions on his left side and front, but were unable to capitalize!

Monk #4 suffered two thirds and minimal damage potential from Ants 1 and 2 from row 5 that moved 25 feet forward to attack from his front and top right diagonal positions!; while Monk #5 was targeted by Ants 3, 4 and 5 from row 5 as they moved 25 feet forward to inflict almost maximum plus minimum damage twice from his top left diagonal, front and top right diagonal positions!

Monk #4 must make a quick decision as to which of his Golden Dawn brothers he will assist during their Combat Round 3 counter attacks!

Fighter #1 suffered three bites of minimal damage from Ants 1 and 2 from row 2 that maintained their positions as Ant 1 from row 3 moved 5 feet on a diagonal line to the front of the Fighter!

Fighter #2 was not so lucky as Ants 1 and 2 from row 4 moved to his left and right side where they inflicted minimum and maximum damage, joining Ant 1 from row 1 that added a minimum damage bite while maintaining its position!

Fighter #3 managed to elude the attacks of Ants 2 from row 3 that moved 10 feet to attack his right side, 2 from row 1 that maintained its position and Ant 3 from row 4 that moved 15 feet to attack from his top right diagonal position!

His Free Booters brother Fighter #4 also managed to elude the attacks of three Ants as Ant 4 from row 1 moved 10 feet to attack his right side, Ant 2 from row 5 moved 25 feet to position itself in the front where Ant 4 from row 1 had been while Ant 3 from row 5 moved 25 feet to his top right diagonal position!

Fighter # 5 suffered maximum damage inflicted by Ant 3 from row 2 that moved 10 feet to attack his right side plus half possible damage from Ant 4 row 5 that moved 25 feet to where Ant 3 from row 2 had been in his front position!

Ants 4 and 5 from row 3 moved 10 feet each to the left and right side of Fighter #8, joining Ant 5 from row 2 that maintained its position directly in front of him, but the Ants were unable to bite the elusive Fighter!

Fighter #6 was bitten twice with minimal damage as Ant 5 from row 5 moved 25 feet to his top left diagonal position, joining Ant 4 from row 2 that had maintained its position in front of the Fighter!

Fighter #7 braced himself as Ants 3 from row 3, 4 from row 4 and 5 from row 5 moved 5 feet to his front, 25 feet to his left side and 15 feet to his top left diagonal position before attacking in unison with minimum, near maximum and minimum damage!

Each Fighter has his hands full defending himself without any hope of immediate assistance from their Free Booter brothers as the Giant Worker Ants have cleverly positioned themselves for their attacks!

South End Ants Attack Turn 1 Combat Round 3

Bumble Brew had gotten herself in a decidedly precarious position!

Fortunately she was still alive after Ants 1 from row 3 and 1 from row 2 maintained their positions to attack her with minimum damage, each nipping her left leg and her right leg respectively!

Ant 5 from row 4 moved 35 feet forward to prevent Ariane from loosing another Arrow, placing itself directly in front of the Paladin to force her to draw another weapon!

Ant 4 from row 3 moved 35 feet directly between Shandra the Monk and Ariane the Paladin, as the plan of attack began to unfold against ThunnGarr and the Off Worlders!

Shandra the Monk awaited the attacking Ants as Ant 4 from row 5 moved 25 feet diagonally to a position in front of the Monk while Ant 3 from row 5 moved 25 feet diagonally to the top left diagonal position, but their bite attempts failed miserably as the Monk gracefully evaded their attacks!

Amberlyn also evaded her attacker as Ant 2 from row 5 moved 25 feet diagonally directly in front of Amberlyn, but the Knight proved to be agile enough to evade the bite!

ThunnGarr the Mighty was not so fortunate! He was a Big Target and a Much Bigger Threat to the Ants!

Ant 5 from row 2 moved 10 feet to circle directly behind the Giant Dwarf as Ant 4 from row 2 moved 10 feet beside Ant 5 from row 2. Then Ant 4 row 4 also moved 10 feet next to ThunnGarr’s right while Ant 3 from row 4 moved 10 feet to the top right diagonal position!

Also moving 10 feet was Ant 2 from row 4 to the position directly in front of the Giant Dwarf while Ant 1 from row 4 moved 10 feet to his top left diagonal position!

Remaining stationary in their positions were Ant 3 from row 3 on ThunnGarr’s left and Ant 3 from row 2 directly in front of Ullrich next to the Barbarian’s lower left diagonal position!

ThunnGarr found himself completely surrounded, drawing the attention of the Ants away from his teammates!

Surprisingly, the Ants were able to find their mark, but only 7 of them could muster minimal damage and the other only slightly better!

By concentrating their numbers against the Barbarian, only three Ants remained to attack the remaining three South Enders, but Ant 2 from row 2 and Ant 2 from row 3 chose to each move 5 feet to position themselves between Sir Yder and Ullrich and diagonally between the Knight and Ranger, then both chose to simultaneously attack the Ranger, but his agility skills served him well as the Ants failed to bite him!

Their last opponent, Ant 1 from row 5, marched quickly forward 25 feet positioning itself in front of Sir Yder, but the Knight managed to evade the single bite!

Leaving Cunning Fox as the only South Ender not directly challenged from their moves and attacks! The Cleric must now make a quick decision as to how to aid Bumble Brew who was his closest teammate to losing consciousness, while finding a way to help the others aid ThunnGarr the Mighty!

Sir Yder, drops his bow and pulls his sword striking the ant with a downward blow, trying to clove it in twain. This is ant 1 from row 5.

Shandra

As a young monk Shandra had been set the task of learning the ways of the ants. Hours a day were spend viewing ants, there were lessons to be learned from them. Ants were tenacious, ants persevered, ants had different duties which they carried out even if it meant their deaths, and ants used their antennea to communicate. Shandra hope these giant ants had the same weakness for she was going to target their antennea for her attacks. If that did not seem to work, then she would go for the joints of their legs.

Shadra lifts her club to aid in reach those vulneable positions of the giant ants. She knows to stay out of the way of their crushing mandibles.

The Fighters of the Free Booters Society were now in their element as they each brandished their Specialized Weapon of choice … the Two Handed Axe!

Fighter #1 bellowed in rage as he swung his Axe against Ant 1 from row 3 that stood directly in front of him, sinking the blade into the skull of the Ant with such incredible force that the Ant barely remained conscious!

Fighter #2 fared almost as well with much better results against the previously wounded Ant 1 from row 1 that stood directly in front of him. The Axe bit into the exposed back of the Ant, knocking it Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Fighter #3 faced Ant 2 from row 1 that was a bit weaker, but a two thirds damage potential blow into its exposed right side provided the same result as it fell to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Fighter #4 chose to attack the wounded Ant 4 from row 1 that had moved to his right side, but with only half the damage potential wielded from his Two Handed Axe biting into its exposed body, the Ant was fortunate to remain Conscious, but another such blow would leave it Mortally Wounded were the Fighter to attack again!

Fighter #5 was facing a totally healthy Ant 4 from row 5 in front of him, but only managed a tad better than minimum damage dealing1

Fighter #6 did not fare much better against an unscathed Ant 4 from row 2 that stood defiantly in front of him as his Axe found its mark in an appendage!

Fighter #7 had better success against an unharmed Ant 3 from row 3 that stood directly in front of him, his Axe slashing its back with half the damage potential that made the Ant shuddering without falling!

Fighter #8 managed only a third of the damage potential with his Axe against Ant 5 from row 2 that stood directly in front of him!

Given enough time and good fortune, the Free Booters Society Human Fighters may be able to fight themselves free to assist against the Ants attacking the East Enders and West Enders!

The Halfling Monks of the Order of the Golden Dawn were well able to disable foes with their bare hands and feet, but these Giant Worker Ants needed to be brought down quickly and efficiently!

Each Monk grabbed a Club and chose an opposing target without the slightest hesitation!

Monk #1 swung his Club at Ant 1 from row 3 that stood in front of him, connecting against the side of its body with almost full force damage potential with his blow!

Monk #2 only connected with half damage dealing potential against Ant 1 from row 4 that stood in front of him!

Monk #3 fared no better against Ant 1 from row 5 as his club connected against the head of the Ant standing in front of him!

Monk #4 merely inflicted one third the damage dealing potential against Ant 3 from row 5 that had positioned itself at his top diagonal right, his Club glancing off one of its legs!

Monk #5 scored only minimal damage dealing potential with his Club against Ant 4 from row 5, a glancing blow off the head of the Ant positioned in front of him!

Monk #6 dealt almost full damage dealing potential with his Club against Ant 5 from row 4, whacking the right side of the one standing directly in front of him!

Monk #7 swung his Club at Ant 5 from row 3 that stood directly in front of him, landing a half damage dealing potential blow against its right side!

Monk #8 fared slightly better against the previously wounded Ant 5 from row 2 that stood directly in front of him, bashing its head with two thirds the damage dealing potential that his weapon could possibly inflict with one blow!

The Halfling Monks would be hard pressed to utilize their combat abilities to vanquish these Giant Worker Ants without losing any lives!

The Gnome Clerics of the Clan of the Copper Caverns decided that Clubs would serve them better at this point of the battle than any Spells could fare against the Giant Worker Ants!

Cleric #1 attacked Ant 1 from row 3 with his Club delivering two thirds the damage dealing potential, connecting against the head of the Ant directly in front of him!

Cleric #2 swung his Club against Ant 2 from row 4 with the same results, bashing the right side of the Ant directly in front of him.

Cleric #3 fared half as well against Ant 3 from row 4 as his Club glanced off the body of the Ant directly in front of him!

Cleric #4 swung the same glancing type blow against Ant 3 from row 5 that was located at his top left diagonal position!

Cleric #5 had no Giant Ants adjacent to him, so he decided to fire another Arrow at the wounded and stunned Ant 5 on row 1, but only managed to inflict damage a tad better than minimum!

Cleric #6 dealt a mere third damage dealing potential with a glancing blow against the head of Ant 4 from row 5 that stood at his top diagonal right position!

Cleric #7 scored half damage potential against Ant 4 from row 4 with his Club connecting against the left side of its body as it stood directly in front of him!

Cleric #8 chose to attack Ant 3 from row 3, but his Club only administered a glancing blow against the back of the opponent standing in front of him!

The Gnome Clerics are facing possible extinction unless they find a way to press the advantage and avoid their attackers until they get some help!

The Giant Worker Ants had effectively positioned themselves out of range of the Wand of the Finger of Death that Ollie Gory had used to eliminate the unsuspecting Ants the previous two rounds!

The Bard had committed himself to assisting the North Enders, figuring that ThunnGarr and his band of Off Worlders would be able to defeat the rest of the Ants attacking them without any further assistance from his weapons!

Besides, the Fighters would be able to help the Monks and Clerics once they eliminated the North End Ants!

Drawing 2 Arrows, the Half Orc Bard decided to fire both in a straight line against Ant 2 from row 4 that was attacking Fighter #2 at the optimum range from his Composite Long Bow!

The Bard let loose the first shaft that found its mark with a tad better than one quarter the damage dealing potential, followed by the second shaft that bit into the back of the Ant with three quarters damage dealing potential, but the wounded Ant still posed a threat to the Free Booter!

Ollie Gory will continue to attack the Ant threatening Fighter #2 until it is eliminated by either the Free Booter or his own Arrow! Then he will assess the situation and decide which Ant to fire upon!

South End: Paladin (buggy don't like me?)

Ariane, as expected, had found herself in close quarter range with one of the ants. It was a pretty quick anthropod for its size; before the young paladin could use her third arrow, the ant from one of the farthest rows (row 5, ant 4) had already advanced towards her position. The paladin had to stay undaunted and prepare for her next action.

Ari was quick to know that her arrows failed the last time and that fact, and the ant's position, provoked her to use her Holy Sword. She slid the C.Longbow's bowstring over her torso to put it to rest for now and moved her right hand towards the Avenger's handle.

She also noticed another ant close by (row 3, ant 4) and it had the potential of attacking too, either her or the monk that was close by. Regardless, she'll put her faith in Rydor and her technique to get her through.

South Enders Shuffle ie Counter Attack Turn 1 Combat Round 3

Bumble Brew had gotten herself into quite a predicament, but she was relying upon her own wits, plus the assistance of a teammate or two, to battle her way to victory against these Giant Ants!

She has learned much in a short time of training, as the Elf Wizard nimbly moved 10 feet to her left, putting some distance between herself and Ant 1 from row 2, so she could focus all her attention upon Ant 1 from row 3 that was now located at her diagonal top right side.

Trusting in her God of Greater Hope, Bumble Brew swung her Staff of Power in an arcing motion that caused her weapon to strike her opponent right between “the eyes”!

Whether by accident, by her own design or the grace of her deity, Bumble Brew somehow managed to trigger a charge of the Magic Missile Spell contained within the Staff of Power that was released simultaneously at the precise moment her staff whacked the Giant Ant on its head … resulting in the Ant crumpling to the ground Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Bumble Brew stood momentarily amazed at what had just transpired; then noticed the result of Cunning Fox having moved 5 feet forward, reaching into his Rust colored Bag of Tricks with his left hand and tossing a small fuzzy ball 15 feet on a diagonal line next to Ant 1 from row 2.

As the small fuzzy ball instantly transformed into a Wolverine, Cunning Fox shouted, “Protect Bumble Brew!” as he fired 3 charges from his Ring of the Ram that was on his right hand against Ant 1 from row 5 that had attacked Sir Yder!

The Wolverine charged the Ant and jumped on its back, slashing with its claws and biting the Ant just behind its head, as the Ant began trying to shake its new attacker, while barely clinging to a conscious life!

Sir Yder was amazed to see his adversary crumble before him Unconscious with a Grievous Wound as he brought his Dragon Slayer Long Sword to bear with a slashing motion, but being startled by the dim outline of the head of a Ram or Goat slamming into the Ant facing the Knight, he only managed a minimum amount of damage, along with the strength of his arm and the magical quality of his weapon!

The Giant Ant lay motionless upon the Dark Arena sands!

Ullrich reacted to the dangers facing him without hesitation in one fluid motion as the Short Sword in his left hand slashed Ant 2 from row 2 along its left side, causing it to slowly sink to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with a Grievous Wound; while he struck Ant 3 from row 2 with his Sylvan Long Sword, but only inflicting a quarter of the initial potential damage dealing ability!

However, the magical properties of his Sylvan Long Sword added with the force of his strength caused his opponent to lose consciousness, falling at his feet in a helpless state of Unconsciousness should Ullrich or anyone else choose to strike another blow!

The Magical Properties of the Sylvan Long Sword allowed the Ranger to swiftly strike yet another opponent because Ant 3 from row 2 was knocked unconscious [0 Hit Points!] from his single blow!

Without thinking the Ranger slashed his Sylvan Long Sword against Ant 5 from row 2 that was directly behind the Dwarf Giant and at the top diagonal right position of Ullrich the Human Ranger!

Although he merely connected with half the possible damage dealing potential against the left side of the Giant Ant, the Magical Properties of the Sylvan Long Sword, coupled with the strength of his sword arm, caused the Giant Ant to fall to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

ThunnGarr the Mighty revels in the circumstance that he is surrounded by the enemy, drawing most of the threat away from his teammates and unto himself.

As he picks his target directly in front of him, he is aware that the Ant directly behind him has somehow fallen Unconscious to the Dark Arena sands with Grievous Wounds!

The Giant Dwarf Barbarian draws his Dwarven Thrower War Hammer back behind his head and with the same twisting motion succeeds in slamming his Shield of Bashing into Ant 3 from row 3 with two-thirds damage dealing potential.

The Ant wobbles with the impact of the blow, but manages to maintain consciousness!

His Dwarven Thrower War Hammer comes crashing down upon Ant 2 from row 4 knocking it Unconscious with the sudden force of impact upon its back as it slowly collapsed into the Dark Arena sands!

Meanwhile, Amberlyn with a focused burst of sheer determination brought her Feathered Long Sword to bear with such force against Ant 2 from row 5 that the full potential of damage dealing ability, plus the strength of her sword arm and magical properties of her Long Sword greatly reduced the stamina of the Ant, although it stood defiant and ready to continue it own attacks!

Shandra gripped her Club and focused her inner strength upon Ant 4 from row 5, disregarding both Ant 3 from row 5 that menaced her from her top left diagonal position and Ant 4 from row 3 that that had moved between her and the Paladin!

She succeeded with the full damage dealing potential of the Club crashing down upon her opponent, but the Ant still had plenty of life left to threaten Shandra!

But as the Monk drew another breath of air, she became aware of a sensation from The Light that was trying to reveal an inner secret to her!

Ariane the Paladin slung her bow across her back, harnessed securely as she drew her Holy Avenger Long Sword with her Small Wooden Shield all in one fluid motion!

Knowing the Shield would provide a measure of protection from Ant 4 from row 3 on her left side, she swung her Long Sword with a vicious slash against the right side of her opponent that stood directly in front of her!

Inflicting three quarters the potential damage dealing force against Ant 5 from row 4, coupled with the strength of her sword arm wielding the magical item, Ariene was a bit annoyed that the Ant was still healthy enough to stand its ground, its appendages flexing in anticipation of sinking a bite into the battling Paladin!

Although annoyed, she trusts in Rydor!

Amberlyn draws her long sword into her right hand and brings her shield up she attacks the ant before her.

"Close up people don't let those ants in between us."
