These are the Questions of our Lives.

A place to post those oh-so-trivial and perplexing questions that come into our minds at the most sparatic of moments! You know...things like:

-Who invented the first classic-style razor with a handle?
-Why are there flotation devices under plane seats instead of parachutes?
-If you can't drink and drive, why do you need a driver's license to buy liquor, and why do bars have parking lots?
and....

-If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?

((This doesn't always have to be funny! Seriously perplexing questions that you may have, no matter what subject or how 'simple it may SEEM' should go here. And of course answers are welcome, because the point of asking questions is to get answers.))

Here's a question attached to an anecdote:

My uncle, who lives next door to my Italian grandparents got them a dog a few years ago. But, they insist it's my uncle's and he says it's theirs. Regardless, the dog gets cared for at both homes. But my grandparents don't speak English and my uncle's family does.

I was visiting and wanted to call the dog. I started with, "Lola, come here, Lola!" but she wasn't coming so then I changed to "Ven e qua, Lola!" (sorry Italians, can say it but can't spell it) Still, she didn't come. I asked my cousin, "Well, what language does this dog speak?"

Wherin the son of my cousin had the most logical, simple answer and looked at me as if I were nuts, "She speaks dog." was his answer.

What language do dogs think in? Do you believe they think in any sort of language at all?

Well I don't think dogs think in any language. They think in images and memory. We discussed this in philosophy.

yes, images and memory, but...

so what about when they act like they're talking...or trying to anyway. They make all these grunts and moans and try to talk to you. Seems pretty close to home on the language side of things...

Cats do it too, more than dogs. The stare at you and reply to things you say.

Not remotely a bad liquor sore, neither is it outside of Texas. It's merely that they, unlike most people, realize that a DL is not remotely the only form of identification issued in this country - Hell, it wasn't really intended to be a form of ID, just a liscence to operate a motor vehicle, much like a pilot's liscence or crane operator's liscence (neither of which is likely to be accepted as an ID most places).

I am 27 but can pass for 19, except they see my husband and then figure I'm older. He looks older than his age.
