Hello everyone, my name is Cirro. And let me quickly tell you that I'm a female despite the username. I was just out of ideas for a name; I don't like using my own name nor anything that is slang ("Hotchick") or seems to exude narcissism ("beauty").

Anyways, nice to meet you all. I've been lurking for a long time and have finally decided to sign up. I really like RPGs; started with D&D, but abandoned it and been away from fantasy campaigns for a long time.

I'm more a player than a gamemaster; low self-esteem and easily intimidated, but ardent about roleplaying and how my char grows up. I have a strength in research and character analyzing (IMO).

My type of style? Don't choke but I'm mostly the hero player ("Lawful stupid" you guys call it??) or the one who likes to play the stupid/gag character. I don't like vampires and dragons. Etc etc etc.

As one of the (relatively) newer Inn-mates here, I am proud (and lucky?) to be the first to welcome you to our world.

Unlike you, I like dragons, and hate playing hero characters. But I have done so anyway, on occasion.

Like you, I like the pratfall/gag character now and then for humor in a game.

I'm sure you'll find whatever setting, game, or level your heart desires here. Lots of 'em going on or starting all the time...

I looked around and there seems to be many interesting threads going on. I hope I can learn a lot from your guys, especially in being a game master.

Villains are cool, but have yet to play an effective one for some reason. So I'm lazy and play the good guy. Also, neutral characters, someone with a conscience or high sense of duty.

Dragons? I found the ones in the Council of Wyrms setting very interesting because they were PCs with their own ethnics and I wanted to know what it'd be like.

Let me be the umpteenth person to welcome you to our humble respite from the real world. You know, there's been a be string of "I've been lurking for awhile and decided to join" threads lately and that's wonderful!... but it also piques my curiousity as to what threads all these newcomers have been following, that hooks their attention and bids them take the first step to joining one themselves. Was there any in particular you just thought hmmm, I've gotta try and play in that!

As far as names go, I like yours. Kinda reminds me of he name of a fictional detective, Nero Wolfe. I have a penchant for taking words and phrases (and sometimes even real names) and creating odd names from them by rearranging sylaables and letters.

My own is an example: Take my first name and put it after the last, then drop the "e" in "Orange" ...

Not really... we don't even have cell blocks hereabouts... just the padded room where they put me on occassion and Grugg after a feeding frenzy.

Anyhoo... as you can see, we're always exceedingly happy to welcome "long time lurkers; first time posters" and hope that our crazy style welcome wagon doesn't run you off. AS you've noticed, there are quite an abundance of games, gamers, and GMs packed into our little corner of the web and, as a result, there should be no shortage of folks who will be willing to help you out where it comes to learning the ropes - whether it be in the realm of playing or GMing or any other kind of 'ing' you might come up with. If you've got questions, comments, concerns, spare change, a twinkie that you're not going to eat, etc, etc, etc, don't hesitate to post it up somewhere or, heck, shoot someone a PM (that's what we 'staff-types' are here for, after all... and, truth be told, the greater majority of our 'non-staff' Innmates are just as helpful, friendly, knowledgable, and willing to assist as any of us with purple or red name tags are). It's good that you don't like to play the 'typical' hero type, we all have the kind of characters we are good at and they work well together in the stories. And I'm with you on the character development bit. I started off with table top games and found they were too focused on fighting and not enough on role playing, so after the free form site I had been playing on for years died I finally (after several failed attempts at other sites) found a home here. It's great. Sometimes a little slow (if you notice the dates on the threads (aka a forum topic) it takes awhile between posts sometimes... but that's also kind of nice because you can have several games going on at once without getting overwhelmed.

MERIDETH: Yes Meri I've been having similiar problems. Too many people like to fight. It's not nessesarily bad; it's not bad to fight, but I like it when there are purposes to fight and get stronger. But, I get the same excuse that power chars don't matter but the writing does (AKA: We're not gonna cause trouble or godmode because we are fantastic RPers). It's the impression that "too many strong chars" will give, which bothers me. Hard to explain. One of the reasons why I hate dragons, freeform and in rule-based places.

Oh by the way, does anyone show me where I can find paladin and ranger characters at work around here, especially in rule-based campaigns?

Are you looking for a spot to PLAY a paladin or ranger, or a spot to play OFF of one? And do you have a preferred level or level range?

Without knowing the answers to either of those queries, I offer these suggestions:

Rylanor -- The building of an Empire (DM: Dragon Mistress, free-form game thread, D&D-based)

The Chakran Portal -- An adventure in Audalis (DM: Almerin, RDInn-created world, D&D-based)

A Cold Day In Hell (DM: t_catt11, modified Sci-Fi Army Rangers)

Forgotten Realms -- The Unsung Heroes (DM: Kaelyn, interesting-concept, D&D-based)

The Inconceivable Crusaders (DM: Okron, another interesting-concept, D&D-based game)

I am in all of the above, and all are currently closed or full, but many games either allow, or post for, additional or replacement players. So if any game pigue yer interest, contact the DM/GM and ask. It never hurts. And keep an eye on the recruitment thread area for new games starting.

Side note to this ever-lengthening diatribe:
Most D&D games here are either 3e or 3e5 (v3.0 or v3.5 D&D), but some actually use the 2e rules. If you need any character conversion to, or creation in, a version you don't have, I can help there. Also, you can place a query in the general area asking for links to any/all 3e or 3e5 data online. You'll most likely get loads of helpful people to assist you there ...

i have the high potential of playing a paladin soon actually in one of Hammer's games Utan, but in general I like to see how they are like around here and how you guys play them. Rangers especially, someone anti-social and a protector of the wilderness.

I read the Paladin article and I do believe it is difficult, but I don't think it has to be. The problem is the Pal needs to be near perfect in being a personage of good and justice. Also, I'd like to make up for my mistakes.

If you want the single best Paladin I've seen played on the inn to date, Check out Tek's Playing of Atharam in my old Nomachron game. Though it's no longer active ,the thread is still there as is the single longest post for a game ever written on RDI (so large in fact that RDi couldn't handle it in a single post originally lol)
I'll hunt down the page at least and link it for prosperity sake.

Alas I am mistaken, and the original thread has been lost to the void of inactivity some time ago... Atharam is however briefly revived in Champions of Nomachron Return to arms, which does still remain in the Rules based dungeons and dragons thread.
