Audalis Shorts - The Spores of Itanlok

Hello Good Gamers of the Inn,
It’s time to try my hand at a new adventure. My Chakran Portal game has run for a few years, but has recently dried out, so to speak.
So, I’m planning on continuing my series of Audalis Short Adventures, with ‘short’ meaning a simpler plot and faster run from start to end. The first one I did is called ‘You Filthy Little Thief!!!’ and is still running in the Rules Based DnD forum. You can check this out to get a sample of my style of DMing.
How short this adventure really is will depend on the players.

That could be you!

I’m looking for a group of 4 to 6 people to start this thing. We’ll be playing in the RDInn created setting of Audalis, specifically in the city of Khordal (which is the Kingdom of the Khordaldrum (dwarves)). This doesn’t mean you HAVE to be a Khordaldrum character, but I would really like an All Khord Team. To promote this I’ll give every Khodaldrum character one extra bonus feat, and a place in the game over other character concepts.

Game Mechanics: - Dnd edition 3.5, but I can help you convert from 2nd to 3.5 if you need me to.
- Level 8
- Only races from the Audalis Setting, preferably Khord, and classes from PHB.
- Multi-classing is allowed. Prestige classes can be discussed.
- Khordaldrum characters get 1 extra bonus feat.
- Stats are 74 points divided over 6 abilities, with racial bonuses added later on.
- Alignments should be Good (I’ve had my share of Evil and CN characters).
- Starting money is 27.000 GP, standard for level 8 characters.
- You can only have 3 magical items, none of which can be above 13.500 GP
- HP will be rolled by me
- Updates will come once a week, or sometimes in between in case of conversations.
- Rolls in game will be made by the DM, to save time and misunderstanding.
- I do require proper spelling and posts that contain more than a single sentence.

The reason creation is so basic or limited is that this will be a story-concentrated adventure. Yes, there will be fighting, but you’ll need some wits too, to pick up on hints and figure things out. Not every situation should be conquered by blunt force, and if you are a player that only enjoys high stats and whacking monsters, this may not be the adventure for you.
You do not need to have any special knowledge of the Audalis Campaign Setting, though I would advice to glance over some of the information to get a feel of the setting.
And for all you people who are afraid of trying your hand at 3.5 rules, I will promise you that roleplaying wise, there doesn't have to be a difference in editions.

As for the story: There is something strange going on in a part of the Khordaldrum Kingdom. Strange noises and lights have been spotted in an underground mushroom forest, and people have started to disappear. It is your job to investigate.

Got Questions? Feeling interested? Enthusiastic? Post your intentions and character concepts here, and hopefully we’ll get a nice group of players together.

I’m looking forward to starting this!

oh

We'll be starting the adventure in the Tavern "The Spores of Itanlok" in Khordal, not your average drinking hole, but a drinking hole indeed.

I conjured up a banner for the game already. All I need is a few players.

DEfiantely

Going to continue with Thondrek if you don't mind. The Chakran Portal Khord Duskblade with a penchant for the unorthodox, and horrible timing when it comes to humor

.

I'll give this a go, I would really like to still be a player under your Dming, Almerin! I won't be playing with Loda, as she wasnt my character to begin with, so I'll come up with another kord character. I was thinking fighter/stonelord, is that ok?

Thondrek

I'm thinking, since I have to completely redo him stat wise, that I might turn his character traits extremist.
In Chakran Portal he was very much one to speak his mind open and bluntly, his sense of humor was almost never on proper queue and often misinterpreted, and his ideas for plans subtly came across as. "Well I can do it why can't you, or Why am I always the one to think of this."

I'm thinking this time through he'll be the same way, just.. moreso. No more bonuses to charisma scores contrary to his roleplay, and since he tripped and fell enough bloody times, I'm thinking his wis/ dex will be shortened too to exemplify his lack of good sense lol.

Concept wise, also a way to sorta explain this, and possibly tying it into Charkan Portal.. I was thinking we suffered some horrendous defeat during Bootskull, perhaps they killed the Keldon as punishment for failing or some such, spurring the team into the action of an attempted escape or counter-offensive which ended.. horribly. In a moment of panic, Thondrek Dimension Hopped his last few spells away and fled, seeking shelter underground, to drown his sorrow and his shame. There, some time later in a drunken fit, he receives what he percieves as a message from Khorax, inspiring him to use his past as fuel for betterment, not embittered self-pity. So, he picked up his axe once more and began to train, long and hard (Hence the level ups) and now, hearing of adventure, he's leaving his abandoned tunnels, and infrequently traveled routes, to come out into service for all the right reasons once more.
(This I think will help explain the stat changes and the roleplaying that will go along with them, to anyone else who may show up as knowing Thondrek in any fashion, or as a Comparison from Charkan Portal to this one.)

Sounds Interesting

I am looking for something different and this may be just the thing!

Character choice would be a Khord who is a mushroom munching hallucinogenic mad man!

The thought sparked when I went to the Audalis info and ran across a reference to hallucinogetic mushrooms and even other bizarre references to lost tunnels!

Perhaps a Cleric, but his mad behvavior induced by mushroom consumption may possibly negate that opportunity?

If this is something workable in your adventure then please PM me any further guidelines and I will consider the possibilities!

The opportunity to play in one of your games is the drawing card here!

One more?

Still got room for another player? I'm afraid I'm not entirely familiar with the Audalis setting yet, as I'm rather new here, but I can learn it simple enough. Do you still have room for me?

wow... many reactions

It looks like I've got a group of players! That is terrific news.

Kaelyn, I love the idea of Thondrek returning. I'll check his sheet later on.

Wyrmsting, any idea what you want to be yet?

Jozan, I have to look into the Stonelord prest class before I say yes to it. Probably won't be a problem, but let me check first if I can find the stats for it.

Hammer, a Cleric with a love for halucinogetic mushrooms sounds great, though I've DMed my share of CN characters already. A mad man is not what I'm looking for, unless you mean mad in the way of him seeing things that aren't there. As long as his alignment is Good, I see no problem with that at all.

Gboy, you don't need special knowledge on the Audalis Setting. I would advice you to read through the description of the Khordaldrum race, though.

I also received notice from Eol. He'll be joining our ranks as well.

With that we have a good group. Now all we need are character concepts. We have a Duskblade and a Cleric so far. Let's try to keep the classes a bit varying, for good group balance.

If you guys feel like it, you could also read through the description of the Khordal Kingdom, for better understanding of the place where you'll be adventuring.

Alrighty then.

Well, I've read up on the race. Sounds good to me. It's essentially a dwarf from D&D 3.5, right?

As for Character concept, I would like to make a swordsage, from Tome of Battle, of the Desert Wind discipline. I hope that's okay. If not, then I'll choose something else

Khord ranger (caver) here ...

already PM'd the concept to you.

Oh, and I'm using mountain dwarf stats, rather than those opf the hill dwarf. It that okay?

news

Kaelyn, I've looked over Thondrek's character sheet, and it seems ready to use.

Jozan, I've found the stonelord prest class, and it is certainly approved. I'm curious to see what you come up with.

Gboy, I'm not familiar enough with the Book of 9 swords, and had some confusing moments in an earlier game I DMed with a character who used rules from that book. To keep things managable for myself I'm going to ask you to pick something else. I'm sorry to do so, because I know it stinks when you have a cool idea and somebody turns you down. Hopefully you'll be able to find something else that will interest you enough.
In any case, yes, Khords are the same as the dwarves from PHB.

Wyrmsting, I don't know if I understand what you mean with mountain dwarf. What is the difference stat-wise and which book are you referring to? I replied to your PM, and so far things are looking good for your character.

So now we have:
1 Duskblade
1 Fighter/Stonelord
1 Ranger
1 Cleric

Good stuff, people. Now we need a rogue of some sort to make the balance complete.

Mountain Dwarves ...

Oops! Was looking for a different-looking dwarf and picked up the 3e Monster Manual by mistake (I have books for 1e, 2e, 3e, and 3e5, and more...)

Mountain Dwarves are just a dwarven "offshoot" race that works the deeper caverns, but not as deep as he duergar. Except for appearance, the stats are no different from the Hill Dwarves ...

3e5 don't have them, so I just made his hair (formerly) black, but now mostly prematurely gray with black streaks ...

A rogue type you say?

Hmmm.... I figure I can work up a Khord rogue for ya, O Toady type King dude! Dwarves I haven't done much but rogues are a 'stand by' for me... probably help in pulling the character together faster, as well... Have a sheet for you in the next day or so.

awesome

Wonderful news, Rogue-power-lord. Let's hope your character won't be on stand-by too much in the adventure

(Wow... that was the sorriest joke ever)
