World Series

Anyone watching this thing? I'm not a baseball fan by any means, but it is nice to see Tampa Bay has finally shown up on the baseball diamond. We have a Super Bowl, a Stanley Cup, and several Arena Football championships... good to see the Rays might bring us a pennant home to add to the collection!

BTW: I still don't like baseball, but at least it's a sport I can leave on in the background and still keep tabs on.

Fancy That

Them Floridians are fair weather fans it seems.

I don't follow it per say, but rooting for the Rays only because their Last to First story is always nice.

Now if only the Lightning can repeat that...

hmm

Lightning aren't going to do it this time around it seems.

As to fair weather, you have to remember half of Florida's population (especially Tampa Bay) are from out of state. Coupled with the youth of all of our teams (Rays are only about a decade old) it's not tough to understand why.

Aye

It's a shame on the lightning, got some good prospects though, rebuilding year will make them better.

Apparently this world series has the lowest ratings ever, and its probably because of the teams. They're just not the huge names everyone thinks of. I wouldn't be able to name the Phillie team if they weren't called just that....

Or maybe its just because its baseball.

Long Series

Do Not Despair Rays Fans!

This seems to be shaping up as a possible 7-gamer!

Clicked on MLB.com a while ago to see if the game was rained out and discovered it was tied and in the 9th inning!

I had paid to be able to listen to baseball this season and by the time I got connected I discovered the bases were loaded and got to hear the play-by-play as Longoria threw the ball away!

Here's to looking for the Rookie to win a couple of games for the Rays with his bat and defense!

Okay, Tampa Bay didn't deserve the stanely cup...

I'm sorry, I just can't handle the fact that they could have pulled that off. In game six, Calgary scored during that third period, so the game should not have gone into overtime, leading to tampa bay scoring, and then continuing to use home ice advantage to win the cup. This might just be me speaking, but almost half of Tampa bay doesn't even know the rules of hockey.

In my humble, outspoken opinion, no state south of Indiana should have a team. Hockey just isn't a sport that's climatized for those places. Stick to... i dunno, baseball, or basketball or something.

This is by no means a comment against the southern states who do have a hockey team, it is only my opinion.

Oh, and just to add to the first paragraph, I'm a little biased, seeing as I'm calgarian... but still, they scored that in the third.

dumb european

Can anybody enlighten me about this thing:

Why is it called the World series, when it is basically just the north american continent participating?

That's like saying, "we hold a world championship nose-picking, but we only let Paraguay and Indonesia join in."

Right?

well

We do have a lot of Japanese players...

Honestly I don't know. I also don't know why Toronto is in the American League.

As to the Lightning, don't be so quick to discount southern teams. Almost all of our players are Canadian, and we do manage to fill the arena almost every single game. There is a huge following down here for it, sure not as much as football, but there are fans down here.

Most of us are from a northern state anyway. I have a grandpa from Ohio and one from Pennsylvania. I would figure that in Tampa Bay the ratio of foreigners to natives is about 5:1.
