Smart?

You're telling the barbarian to be smart???

...might as well tell the wizard to run in to combat screaming at the top of his lungs with a greataxe... it just doesn't work.

hmm

Dang the lack of called shots in 3.5...

Anyway he's firing regardless of whether or not the True Strike got off during the prep time.

I'm not sure

I don't know what kind of range I have with my javelins, so if it'll be a while before he's in range I can edit that post.

jav range

You can throw freely out to 30 ft.

35-60 ft makes the attack at a -2 penalty
65-90 ft makes it -4
95-120 makes it -6
125-150 makes it -8

So you could attack now at a -4, or wait and attack when he's closer for less. Judging by Wyrmy's post, you will be able to either attack him at a -2 or free next round.

This is where things get hazy online. If our barbarian enters melee with him before you throw, then you will take penalties for throwing into a melee (or risk hitting gboy, depending on how Wyrmy runs it). So I always like to include a backup plan for things like that, or if you are comfortable with some or all penalties.

Edit: Of course our DM might just have some plan to make everything flow cinematically and I'm just being overly technical lol

I've been playing 4e too long

Thanks again, Admral

You're right on with the ranges, and the possibility of Bearspaw "getting in the way" (in melee). Max range for most thrown weapons is three (3) increments, unless STR is more than 18. For the javelin this would be 30/60/90 ft at 0/-2/-4.

There is also the possibility that either Jethro and/or Velina could move into his "line of fire", since they haven't posted yet.

But that is not to say that he can't suddenly change targets (or weapons) before he throws, if another opportunity presents itself ...

Ho surprise round. They were already visible (and some mpatiently shifting) in front of you when the human just decided he'd had enough

Assuming Bearspaw moves when the rider lunges forward, he can meet the mounted rider out front (nearly midway) at the end of the round they both bolt forward. He'll still have initiative.

tactics?

I wonder if we're not focussing too much of our energy on the barbarian? Don't know, but what do you guys think?

I'm just a little worried about us getting sniped off, and the cleric and sorcerer (if that's what he is, perhaps druid or such but he has no weapons whatsoever) casting spells at us. Don't know, maybe I'm thinking about this wrong.

Okay. Player F. Y. I.

It's Thursday morning (1 AM), and I'm gonna post this and try for an update later today ...

Image Encounter start
Unless I seriouly misread the posts ...

Image: After first round
Things to note: For me, introducing players to the game at first level is simpler if some details of the game are not strictly adhered to. For example:

For spells, while I do pay attention to casting times, vocal/somatic/materials/focus are optional
If a player doesn't state an action during combat, I still assume that the character has taken a defensive posture with weapon readoed.
Also in combat, there are multiple strike attempts by opponents during a round. The move/die-roll/hit/damage sequence for each character represents a successful (or another unsuccessful) attack during that round. It indicates one successful contact out of many attempts to ger through an opponents defenses.
Mounted archers firing at mounted targets can fire over the heads of melee combatants between them without penalty, since the line of fire is well over the melee combatants head(s). Well, unless it's a critical miss ...
While 3e5 doesn't allow for "caled shots", as such. I still take them as stated and adjust for size of called target, AC (i.e. helm or hauberk in the case of a head shot), or at the very least I will use a DC check.

Round one update posted

Any questions or mistakes, lemme know. I'm finding out just how different this all is from TT gaming. Not bad, just different.

Hereafter, hit points will be shown as #Remaining/#Max, so if a character shows 6/11, it means he/she has 6 hit points remaining of his original (full amount of) 11.

hmm

There is a learning curve to move online for sure, but the first round went off quite well, IMHO
