I'm not exactly a newbie to D&D ...

But the last few posts makes me wonder what the norm is for games in this forum.

I "grew up" playing the game using 72-point to 76-point buys for the characters until levels 8 to 10.

I hope this is not misunderstood, because I AM new to this forum, but I like it. But the 74-point buy and the races, classes, affiliations, and dieties available in the Audalis setting already offer a myriad of possibilities, I think ...

It's not a restriction, it's a challenge.

huh?

74 points make for a very balanced character, they're good at some things, bad at others. Gaming with a bunch of 16s and 18s is no fun. Besides, the bad guys will have the same points to deal with, so basically it doesn't matter. It just keeps all the bonuses to a modest level, which should be the case at lvl 4.

And a human monk would be awesome, Gboy. I'm no fan of Tome of Battle, since Ayrn played with those rules in my Filthy Thief game. It gave a lot of problems, since I didn't understand the rules that well. He had to write out exactly what kind of bonuses and penalties he got with every battle round or otherwise. If your monk doesn't have a bunch of stances and maneuvers than I am ok with it. Otherwise, I hate to bother you, but please make something more simple. (I'm such an old fart these days)

And Kil... don't sweat. I've played with 'new' people before, whether they were actual newbies to the game or just to the forum. I trust that you'll do a good job. People have to start somewhere. Might as well be in a good game with good players, right?

74

Don't 3e bonuses start at 12? At 74 you could have +1 in everything. I'd hardly call that a restriction.

Just my opinion.

Whew!

Then my style of play doesn't make me so unusual here, after all.

It's good to know that I won't be considered (by some) to be the "local self-restricting oddity".

Awesome!

Yup, if you're cool with eliminating maneuvers, stances and all that, then this shouldn't be a problem. Sounds great. I will make you the character, and send it to you via PM.

Cleric needed?

I haven't noticed if anyone has taken a cleric. I think we need one so I will change my ranger to a cleric. Is that all right?

yes

No... there is no cleric yet. I'm glad you're willing to take up the spot!

Gboy, a monk without maneuvres and stances and other difficulties is good. As long as it isn't a bunch of extra stuff that I have to take into account.

I've received 2 characters so far. This is running pretty smoothly.

Um... define extra abilities...

I mean, you do get class abilities for it, but... nothing like the template I had in Spores. Is that what you mean?

Uhhhh, is it too late to join this game?

Tired of lurking.

You were willing at one point to go to 6 players, and I haven't seen anything (yet) to indicate that recruiting is closed for this game ...

Is it too late for a more-muscle-than-brains human fighter to apply for a job?

hehe

Of course you get class abilities, I wouldn't tell a fighter that he wouldn't get his bonus feats.

I'm just making sure that they aren't the kind that deviate too much from the rules in the PHB, which the tome of battle has a tendancy to. You know what? Why don't you tell me what we're talking about exactly, and then I can judge a whole lot better. IF that is not too much trouble.

And Jjmikerr, yes, one dumb fighter can be added.

and here we go: This Recruitment is hereby closed. Not for posting, but for applying. No more appliances here (yes, that's a stupid word joke).

sdf

I am posting here because I can because I cannot apply but I can post.

Also, I'm apparently really bored.

yes

Indeed... and thank you... . A post from Grugg in my recruitment thingy always brightens my day.
So where is your post saying that you want in? I was getting so used to saying 'ok, Grugg, but are you sure you have the time?', to which you reply: "sure, I'll do my best", after which I wait a few weeks to ask you again, to which you reply positively again. Then I wait another week and tell you that it's better if you drop out, to which you agree.

You're taking away the pleasures in life, man!

One magic item

Means that: one magic item that isn't a potion. Rings, Wondrous, Wands, Rods, Armour, Weapons, or Staffs.

What she said

Indeed, Rer is right. You get only one magical item. It is your choice if you want to make that a weapon, a piece of armor or a healing belt. But you get only one.

Then, after you picked your item, you decide on which two potions you want.

So, for example: it's either a magical sword, OR a wand of CLW.
