height and b-days

Let's see... probably the "most romantic" thing I've done for a birthday, lately, was surprising my wife with Trans Siberian Orchestra tickets (and, of course, taking her to the show and dinner, etc). May not sound like much, really, but she absolutely LOVES TSO... won't go into the details of exactly how romantic the evening turned out to be other than to say... ahem... it could've been my birthday, too.

Think I've mentioned the height thing before (I'm an even 6 ft tall).

A pirate, eh, Fan? *grins* I can deal with that.

Stuff

I'm about 6'4" give or take. You can't be accurately measured by someone who's not pretty close to the same hight as you unless they use a level. Since short people never want to admit that they are short, they always refused to use a level and every official document and doctor's file ever made about me lists me at several inches shorter than I really am.

I don't know if it counts as romantic, since I have absolutely no sense of proportion, but for Jana's birthday on the 16th last month... Well, first a little background - she's a regular customer who comes into the shop two to three times per week. Me, being who I am, make jokes, flirt, and give her a hard time. It's what I do. Monday the 12th, she passes an idle comment that her birthday is on Friday. The last day I'll see her before that will be Wednesday. So, of course, after getting out of work at 11pm Tuesday night (remember, this is Feb 13th), I decide that I should get her a gift. Birthday cards are not in high demand this day, but I find one... that was the easy part. I decide that jewelry is the appropriate gift for an attractive young woman. Nevermind that I don't know where she lives, what she does, her last name, how old she is, or really much of anything about her except for what she looks like - jewelry is the only way to go. I'm told I have absolutely no sense of proportion on a regular basis, but upon seeing what I decided on, every single person I showed it to insisted it was too much. That's because pretty much everyone I know lives their lives half-assed, I should let you know at this point. If no one tells me I'm being extreme or over-the-top, that's a good indication that I'm playing too conservative a game...

Of course, the jokers in question have closed for the night, though. Again - The night of Feb 13th... No one EVER buys jewelry then, right? You'd be amazed how often someone comes along to help you purchase your jewelry when you say things like "you have hammers in hardware, right?" and "If I pay for it, it's only vandalism. That's no bog deal. Mikey, here's my wallet, there's three hundred in cash in there after I pay for this. Follow us to the jail and bail me out."

Then, after all that, it turns out Wednesday is a holiday, and she didn't come in. My early birthday present turned into a late one. In the end, she turned out to rather like it, but I think maybe I should have gone with my first impulse and bought her diamonds... You can't go wrong with diamonds, right?

lemme get this straight...

you don't know this chic except how she looks, you've never been out with her and only see her when she comes in to where you work and you were considering diamonds??
uh...not to tell you what to do Ryst, but that sounds really extreme IMO.

Maybe I missed it but what did you end up getting her?

Also, I did know her first name at the time, and now I know her last name, too, so there.

Actually, I've only seen her twice since then. The first time she was on the phone the whole time. The other time, she was with someone, and I'm not the sort to interrupt. She usually comes through on Mondays, but was curiously absent yesterday. These things happen, though.

Shop

A weapon shop. D&D style. I thought we covered that already... Among other things. I do lots of different things... Although, in all honesty, few of them are really "work."
